第一节
Possible Version
I am particularly impressed by the quote. It literally tells us that it is good if we are slow but walking. It also tells us to focus and move steadily forward in its direction.
The quote has helped me have a new perspective of my study. In the past, often in a hurry, I ignored the significance of study and doubted myself when in trouble. Sometimes I stopped and walked backwards. From now on, I shall make every effort count till I reach my ambition.
I hope everyone can learn from the quote, which gives us power, insight and wisdom.

M: How about $50 for two pairs?
W: Sorry, but I can give you a $5 discount.
Text 2
W: Good morning, how can I help you?
M: Good morning. I’m here to reconfirm the conference room for May 30. Erm…sorry, but I couldn’t
help noticing all that noise.
W: Noise? Oh, it’s just a bit of building work at our gym. Nothing to worry about.
Text 3
M: Did you feel the earthquake last night?
W: Yes. I was sitting on the couch watching TV. It was scary.
M: Yes. Feeling the earthquake, I wrapped myself in a towel and ran out of the bathroom at once.
Text 4
M: Excuse me. Can you recommend me something for stomachache?
W: Sure. You can try this. Take it three times a day after meals. But if the pain does not stop, call a
doctor.
M: I see. Thanks. How much is it?
W: $15, please.
Text 5
W: I will never live in the east coast. People there are so fast-paced.
M: Yeah. It’s said that fast pace will result in constant pressure.
W: That’s why I choose the west coast.
Text 6
M: Hi, I would like to buy a one way ticket to Brussels, please.
W: OK. We have an express train departing at seven every morning and we have a slow sleeper train that departs at nine p.m..
M: How long does it take to get there on the sleeper train?
W: About ten hours.
M: Is food served on the train?
W: Yes. There is a dining car where they serve quality steaks, sandwiches and beer etc.. Free coffee will be provided for all the passengers.
M: Great! I’ll take it.
Text 7
W: I’ve heard that you are going to Hong Kong tomorrow. What are you going to do with your dog?
M: I was worrying about this. The business conference lasts 2 days. My friend said he could feed my dog every day, but he may not have enough time to walk it.
W: Do you know there is a pet hotel nearby?
M: No. What is a pet hotel?
W: It provides pets a place to stay. When pet owners have to travel and can’t take care of their pets, a pet hotel can help to take care of the animals, feeding them and letting them get some exercise.
M: This is exactly what I need. Thanks for telling me.
Text 8
W: I haven’t seen you recently. What’s been keeping you busy?
M: I’ve been preparing for my teacher qualification test. But I don’t think I will pass.
W: Don’t think like that. Let me tell you a real story about a person to encourage you a little bit.
M: Okay, go ahead.
W: A 30-year-old migrant worker had to drop out of school at the age of 16 because of his poor family. However, no matter how hard life got, he never gave up on his desire for knowledge. This allowed him to be able to acquire 12 different qualification certificates over 11 years.
M: His spirit is really impressive. What does he do?
W: He is a writer. He has recently published a book about his early experience.
M: I really want to read it. I hope we can go to the bookstore after the examination.
W: Great!
Text 9
M: Good evening, Ivy Asia Mayfair, Steve speaking. How may I help you?
W: Hi, there, I’ve just received my delivery, but it’s not the correct order. I’ve got my family here for dinner, so I’m not very impressed.
M: Oh, I’m really sorry to hear that. May I take your order number, please?
W: It’s IAM7821.
M: Sorry, our staff misspelled it as IAM8721, so you didn’t order the kung pao chicken or steamed fish.
W: No. My family don’t eat meat.
M: Did you order the plant-based burger?
W: Yes, we did, but it didn’t arrive.
M: I’m so sorry about this, madame. I’m going to process your order again now, and get it to you as soon as possible.
W: OK, thank you. It’s pretty frustrating to have to wait all over again.
M: I’m so sorry madame. You will receive your food within 30 minutes, and I’ve given you a 25% discount, so you’ll have $50 credit in your account.
W: That sounds reasonable. I hope I can get the delivery in time.
Text 10
A teenager named Lydia Denton was recently named the winner of Fueling Education Student Challenge, where she earned $20,000 after creating a car seat device that detects when babies have been left in a hot car and can prevent them from dying.
Learning the news, Lydia says she was genuinely shocked. “I didn’t think I would win. I got really upset about babies being left in hot cars by accident and wanted to invent something to prevent the deaths from happening,” she says. After much research and thought, Lydia created Beat The Heat Car Seat.
“It took over 100 tries to get it working,” she says, crediting her science teacher mom, Covey most. Her older brother and younger sister were also her “awesome encouragers” who provided hugs and company.
For those who may become inspired by her story, Lydia has one message: “Don’t think that you have to accept things in the world. If there is something that bothers you, think of ways to make it better!”
