Slwness has been a sweeping trend in sustainability. Slw fd celebrates lcal prduce and traditinal cking methds; slw 'fashin is made with a fcus n peple and the planet. Yu may have even heard f the slw city, a campaign t restre lcal cultures and turn cities back t their natural envirnments.
Slw design develped frm the larger slw mvement. Althugh the term was nly recently intrduced, the idea f thughtful design lks back t a time when buildings and furniture were made with great craftsmanship(手艺) and by hand-befre the mass-prduced thrwaway furniture tk ver. Yu can think f the term “slw” as a celebratin f timelessness: bth the timelessness f a piece and the timelessness f the relatinship between that piece and its wner.
One example f slw design tday is what 's been dubbed the brwn furniture revival(复兴). Brwn furniture refers t the heavy wden furnishings. that were ppular in yur grandparents' day but suddenly fell ut f style at the turn f the century. Brwn furniture is ften assciated with dark wds,)such as trees like mahgany, walnut, and teak, that take decades t reach maturity and true craftsmanship t transfrm int functinal pieces.
Tday's furniture industry is dminated by the $ 13.1 billin-and-grwing glbal ready-t-assemble (RTA)furniture market. RTA furniture is usually cnstructed frm lw-quality fiberbard, which lasts a small part f traditinal furniture's lifespan(寿命).The weight f furniture landfilled in 2018 was 9. 7 millin tns,4.5. times what was landfilled in 1960.
ln a less direct way,the idea f timelessness als lends itself t a lwer envirnmental impact. Besides their demnstrated physical durability, slw materials and design are meant t utlive trends and never be thrwn ut simply because they're ut f style.
As secnd-hand shpping becmes mre appealing t tday's yung generatin- because f its lw envirnmental impact and affrdability—the brwn furniture f yesteryear is making a cmeback.
8. Why is the first paragraph written?
A. T explain a new term.
B. T present the tpic f the text.
C. T prvide backgrund infrmatin.
D. T highlight the imprtance f slwness.
9. What des the underlined wrd “dubbed” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Knwn as.
B. It has a lng lifespan.
C. It is heavy and expensive
D. It has bad effects n the envirnment.
11. What is gd news fr the brwn furniture revival?
A. Grandparents are buying new furniture.
B. The brwn furniture will sn be mass-prduced.
C. The yung generatin favrs secnd-hand shpping.
D. Materials fr slw design furniture are mre available.
D

Everyne wuld get the same infrmatin—just learn it in different ways.
The team then randmly assigned each f the 350 students t either a traditinal science classrm r an art-fcused ne. Students then learned science using that apprach fr the entire unit—abut three weeks. When they switched t a new tpic, they als changed t the ther type f class. Every unit was taught bth ways, t different grups f students.
Befre and after each phase f the experiment, researchers tested students n hw much they culd remember what they had learned. The test result indicated students wh started ff in regular classes perfrmed better after they mved int an art-fcused class. But thse wh started in an art-fcused class did well even when they switched back t a regular science class. These students appeared t use sme f the art techniques after switching back t a traditinal class. 'Sme cntinued t sketch r sing t help them remember infrmatin. (Researchers and teachers als find there's a brader benefit t using art in the classrm. Students in art-fcused classes develp mre creativity and learn t cllabrate(协作) better skills.

D. Each student had bth an art-fcused class and a traditinal ne.
14. Hw was the research carried ut?
A. By srting data.
B. By making cmparisns.
C. By analyzing cause and effect.
D. By testing slutins t a prblem.
15. Which f the fllwing is a suitable title fr the text?
