Befre arriving in China in 2017, I had read varius bks relating t China, and the seeds f my fascinatin were swn.
Therefre, when I arrived, I culdn’t have been mre excited t be living in this huge histrically and culturally rich cuntry. The fd, the landmarks, the mega cities and everyday life — I culdn’t wait t explre.
Yet despite my enthusiasm, learning Chinese hadn’t even entered my mind. This wasn’t ignrance r laziness, but rather fear at the prspect f attempting t learn what is regarded as the mst difficult language in the wrld. Besides this, I was living in Shanghai, an internatinal city, with many peple speaking English as a secnd language — I decided English wuld suffice.
Hwever, after a year in China I began t bserve that while many expats did nt speak Chinese, there were plenty wh did. Perhaps it was achievable after all? In additin, I felt uncmfrtable with hw many Chinese peple culd speak English and yet I culdn’t even speak the mst basic Chinese. With these factrs in mind and a thirst fr a new challenge, I decided t begin my language jurney and my nly regret is that I didn’t start earlier.
Learning t speak Chinese isn’t as insurmuntable as I nce assumed. When I speak t native Chinese speakers in Chinese, they almst always understand me, I have als nt fund it t difficult t remember characters and I am nw even able t write ver 400 characters. The thing I find mst challenging is listening since native speakers talk at such a speed. I can’t always understand what’s been said.
My biggest takeaway frm learning Chinese is that it’s nt nly dable but can als be enjyable. Learning Chinese nt nly helped me in day-t-day life, but deepened my cultural understanding f such a diverse and fascinating cuntry. S, t all my nn-Chinese friends I say this, embrace the challenge and take the leap f faith.

    C. Persistence is the key t success. D. Bravery pens up a new wrld.

Over 18 days, the scientists watched as the bees “went ut f their way t rll wden balls repeatedly, despite n apparent incentive (刺激) t d s.”
Earlier studies have shwn that the black and yellw bugs are willing t learn new tricks in exchange fr fd r ther rewards. In this case, t get rid f external factrs, scientists made sure the bees had adapted t their new hme and that their envirnment was stress-free.
The finding suggests that like humans, insects als interact with bjects as a frm f play. Als similar t peple, yunger bees seem t be mre playful than adult bees. “This research prvides a strng indicatin that insect minds are far mre cmplicated than we imagine. There are lts f animals wh play just fr the purpse f enjyment, but mst examples cme frm yung mammals (哺乳动物) and birds,” said Lars Chittka, a prfessr f sensry and behaviral eclgy at Queen Mary University f Lndn, wh led the study.
The study’s first authr, Samadi Galpay, wh is a PhD student at Queen Mary University f Lndn, states that it is mre evident that bees may be capable f experiencing feelings. “They may actually experience sme kind f psitive emtinal states, even if basic, like ther larger animals d. This finding has effects n ur understanding f the sense and welfare f insects, which, cnsequently, encurages us t respect and prtect wildlife n Earth ever mre,” she says.

Simply telling parents t avid talking abut math ability may nt be enugh. Fcusing less n hw children perfrm and mre n their strategy and enjyment f math might be a mre effective way t enhance mtivatin.
    32. Which f the fllwing is an example f prcess respnse?
    A. What wrks well fr yur study? B. Running is in yur bld.
    C. Yu are a lucky dg. D. Why are yu such a math genius?
    33. What can be inferred frm the study results?

    B. Persn respnses can discurage children frm learning math.
    C. Prcess respnses help with children’s math achievement.
    D. Children are mre likely t be affected by math anxiety.

In a sudden wave f bravery, Maya asked, “What’s it like being in a wheelchair?” “It helps me get arund,” Jan said simply. Then, grinning, she added, “Yu’d be surprised at hw fast I can g in this thing!” Right then, she mved the wheelchair acrss the rm, turning arund, back and frth. And what surprised Maya mst was that she didn’t detect any pity r embarrassment frm her. Then Maya lked up and fund Jan was smiling, eyes purpsefully resting n her brace. It was then that a spark f pwer was lit up deep inside Maya. That afternn, the three f them had a pleasant talk ver lts f things until it was dusk.
Deeply impressed by Jan, Maya ffered t sit beside Samir n the bus ride back hme. “Jan is great. I like her.” Samir admired. Maya ndded, lst in thught. With Jan’s wheelchair and smile in mind, she summned up her curage and said, “The brace keeps my te up s I can walk better.” “Really?” Samir lked amazed, reached ut and tuched it gently. “That’s super cl!” His wrds were s sincere that Maya felt warm and mved. It was a reactin that she expected deep inside her heart. Thugh it was autumn utside, it felt like spring fr Maya. A little green bud was bursting — she and her brace lked cl, beautiful and dynamic in her and thers’ eyes.
