“Daddy, where’s Teddy?” 6-year-old Naomi called from the back of the minivan (小客车). “Tm sure he’s here somewhere,” Ben Pascal said, and pulled off the highway to search for his daughter’s beloved furry pal.
While his wife, Addie, enjoyed some alone time, the Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Dad had taken their three kids to visit family friends Terri and Paul Hayden in Big Fork, Montana. The group had spent the October 2020 day at nearby Glacier (冰川) National Park.
“Are you sure she had Teddy?” Terri asked after they’d searched the minivan without finding the bear she carries him everywhere, “Ben said. Ben and Addie had given Teddy to Naomi before they even met her.
“This is for you,” an orphanage (孤儿院) worker slipped the stuffed bear into 6-month-old Naomi’s bed.“Your new mom and dad want you to know they love you and are coming as soon as they can.”
It took a year to complete the adoption process, but finally, in July 2016, they brought Naomi home Teddy held in her arms.
At the thought of never seeing him again, Naomi cried herself to sleep that night and the next. Terri called the lost and found department and left her phone number, but no one had turned him in. “I know the odds are against finding him,” said Addie. She posted a request on a Friends of Glacier Facebook group asking for help. One woman had actually seen Teddy sitting on a rock and had even taken his picture. But kids were nearby and she thought the bear belonged to them. People promised to keep a lookout and others offered to buy Naomi a new bear. But no bear could ever replace Teddy in the little girl’s heart.
Meanwhile, as fall gave way to winter and the park prepared to close for the season, park ranger (护林员) Tom Mazzarisi began checking paths-collecting rubbish and pulling up signs.
Suddenly, he caught sight of something in a puddle (小水坑). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    (2)内容的丰富性和对所给关键词语的覆盖情况;
    (3)应用语法结构和词汇的丰富性和准确性;
    (4)上下文的连贯性。

On a winter Sunday good for skiing, Sue arrived at their holiday chalet (棚屋) with joy. Sue’s skis were sticking out behind her. Mark, another skier, tripped over Sue’s skis. Before Sue could apologize, Mike shouted, “Your skis are in the way. You’ve got big smelly feet!” In view of his attitude, Sue ignored him. Mark lost face and was more angry.
The ski lift took all the skiers to the top of the mountain. The hard snow of the piste (滑雪道) was below them. Then Sue skied down the mountain. As a good skier, she didn’t fall over. Mark, along with his good friend David, was watching her with envy and anger. They were also good skiers but they didn’t know Sue very well. “She’s good,” David said. “But we’re better,” Mark responded with dissatisfaction.
The young people skied all day. They enjoyed themselves and forgot everything. On Wednesday morning, the young people were waiting for the ski lift when their teacher announced a ski race. The race would be arranged for the last day of the holiday on a long and difficult ten-kilometer piste. Everybody wanted to win! They went up the mountain, put on their skis and skied down the piste, practicing for the race. Sue skied fast, so did Mark and David. Obviously, these three became powerful opponents.
It was Saturday and the race was going to be held in the afternoon. Sue was hungry and left her skis at the side of a café. She sat down and ordered lunch. Later, David and Mark came in. They also headed to the side to put their skis there. Mark noticed Sue’s skis and aimed a kick angrily at them. Then he found a screw (螺丝) on Sue’s ski was loose, unsure whether it was caused by the force or it was like that originally. “Sue’s skis won’t work. We’re sure to win,” Mark said and pointed. They smiled knowingly at each other.
    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally came the time of the race and everyone was excited.
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Maybe feeling guilty or nervous, Mark made a mistake and fell down when Sue approached him.
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    【答案】Paragraph 1:
Finally came the time of the race and everyone was excited. With the referee saying “Get set, go”, all skiers raced down. Unsurprisingly, Sue fell over seconds later. Noticing the loose screw, she slid across the snow and off the piste. During this period, David and Mark skied past. Mark shouted to David, “We’re going to win.” Luckily, it was not a tough problem for Sue. She quickly tightened the screw, made an examination of the rest and skied again. Minutes later, she was ahead of most competitors. Now, the only one before her was Mark, whom she was determined to beat.
    Paragraph 2:
Maybe feeling guilty or nervous, Mark made a mistake and fell down when Sue approached him. Seeing Mark struggled to stand up, Sue stopped and gave him a pull. Much astonished, Mark murmured, “Thank you.” Sue left with a wave of the hand. Two players passed just the moment. Sue sped up with all her strength. Soon she crossed the finish line first to thunderous applause. “Congratulations!” Mark came to Sue. “I should apologize for my words and behavior.” Knowing what had happened, Sue was a little angry, but anyway, it was in the past, “Never mind. I’ve also learned the lesson that examining my skis is necessary,” Sue joked. “And maybe we could ski together later.” “Totally agree!”

Last winter, Linda went through a very messy divorce and was very depressed. So she quit her job and left Los Angeles, where she encountered her ex-husband in college. She flew to Boston on the east coast of the US. Later, she settled in a new neighborhood in East Boston. However, shortly afterwards, the company where she worked went bankrupt (破产). Suffering a series of bitter blows, she fell ill, a severe case of flu. She had to stay at home for the whole week, feeling extremely bad and hopeless.
Early one morning, Linda lay in bed, feeling painful all over. Then all of a sudden, there was an upsetting knock on her front door. Struggling out of the bed, she dragged herself to the window. There, outside, she saw a young lady carefully holding some leaflets(传单)and a TV set model. She knew of a large TV set establishment nearby and assumed a message was about to be gently delivered. “This is the last thing I need today.” She muttered to herself and hesitantly opened the door.
Coughing bitterly, Linda stuck her head out. “Excuse me, madam…” the young lady said with a smile. “I’m sorry but I am not the slightest bit interested in any TV whatever.” Linda interrupted her impatiently. “As a matter of fact, I am feeling terribly awful.” “Is there anything I can do for you, madam?” the young lady asked with concern. “No thanks, just leave me alone.” Linda then shut the door in her face. The young lady politely turned and left in silence.

Before Linda could utter any word, the young lady handed her a warm pot, with a concerned look on the face. “I’m so sorry to have disturbed you earlier. I thought you may need this homemade chicken soup. Hope it might make you feel a little better. ”
Linda was surprised by this lovely action. After being refused so rudely, the lady still showed much kindness to her. A sense of shame creeping upon her heart, she could only force a smile with burning ears. But also, a warm current surged through her brain and body. Linda took the chicken soup gratefully, tears blurring her eyes and a lump in her throat. The lady wrapped Linda in her arms and patted her on the back. “It’s OK, dear. Everything will be fine.” Hearing these words, Linda felt a ray of bright sunshine lighting up her life.

May 18, 1986, was the kind of beautiful, sunny day that regularly brought the Rodriguez family to Santa Catalina Island for some fishing on their nine-metre pleasure boat, the DC Too. They spent the day fishing in the Pacific Ocean, then left the island in the early evening.
Soon thick fog rolled in. Louise fell into a light sleep beside her five-year-old sister, Trisha, at a table on the boat’s lower deck. Their father’s sharp orders frightened her awake: “Get out of the boat. It’s sinking!” Louise pushed her sister into the cold, dark water. The girls were followed by their mother, Petra Rodriguez. Both girls wore life jackets, but the adults did not. Within seconds, the boat capsized, leaving just the tip of its bow in the air.
After some time, her father told them he would swim for help. Louise watched him disappear into the darkness. A while later, her mother went still. Then her sister died, too.
Pisano and Strasser, both 25, were going on a fishing expedition. The fog was so thick that they couldn’t even see the stern(船尾) of the boat. They decided to try one more spot before going home. Late that afternoon, the fog cleared and the sun started shining. On their return voyage, about 11 kilometres away from Catalina Island, Pisano noticed something yellow floating in the water.
Strasser steered(驾驶) the boat closer and Pisano jumped into the water. He swam toward the figure and grabbed the life jacket. Fortunately, Louise was saved and quickly sent to hospital. The little girl soon recovered, but the search for Louise’s father, sister and mother was in vain.
Louise was adopted by her aunt and uncle. She attended college, got married in 2013 and gave birth to a son. In her late 20s, Louise began to wonder about her rescuers. She even tried to find them but no luck. One day, Louise came across a magazine article featuring Pisano talking about the 1986 rescue.
    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请在答题卡的相应位置作答。

    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】       Realizing Pisano was the very person she was looking for, Louise decided to find him. For a very long time, she had been expecting a chance to meet Pisano and Strasser personally and express her gratitude to her rescuers. Without any delay, she contacted the magazine, asking for the detailed information of Pisano. That evening, Louise finally dialed the number. When there came the voice of Pisano, Louise could feel her heart beating wildly. Though it was about 1,000 kilometers from where Pisano lived, Louise was determined to fly to meet Pisano.
Louise recognized her rescuer the moment she saw Pisano. Taking a deep breath, Louise stepped forward and grasped the hands of Pisano tightly. “I’m Louise”, she said, her voice trembling with excitement and tears rolling down her cheeks. Pisano, now in his sixties, hugged Louise and patted her gently. Amid hugs, tears and surprise, Louise’s dream of finding her rescuers came true and now that she’d reunited with them, she hoped to stay connected forever.

Little Tom lived with his poor grandmother Donna in a village. Every day, Tom sold potatoes grown by Donna in a market.
One day, an old foreigner aroused Tom’s curiosity. He frequently visited Tom’s stall (摊位) but didn’t buy. The next day, the man passed from one vendor (小贩) to the next, waving a bag around. But he didn’t visit Tom’s stall that day. Out of curiosity, Tom asked a vendor nearby to temporarily look after his stall. Then, he followed the foreigner.
The man went back to his broken-down house near the market and took several old medals from his bag. “Wow!” Tom said. “I won them in my own country,” the man said proudly, then asking why Tom came here. Tom explained, “I’m wondering why you didn’t visit my stall today.” “Oh, I don’t need potatoes. I need firewood, so I walked around the market looking for someone who would buy these medals and give me money in exchange,” he lied.
Tom left and brought back many potatoes from his stall, saying, “If you don’t have money, you can’t buy food. Keep my grandma’s potatoes.” But the man insisted he had enough food. Tom went back, upset; he could see the man was hungry and weak.
The third day, the man reached the market, selling medals again. He valued them, which were his honors. But after a disaster, now he had to sell them to survive. He looked weaker. Tom packed some potatoes, walking towards him again. From his conversations with vendors, Tom found him trying to sell medals for food! But no one believed his medals were true.
Disappointed, the man sat alone by the roadside. Tom approached him, saying, “I saw it! Why didn’t you let me help you?” Almost crying, he said, “I’m sorry, but I was too embarrassed to ask for your help. Now could you give me your potatoes in exchange for the medals?”

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    【答案】One possible version:
“Sure,” Tom said while nodding his head. Then he handed him a bag of potatoes. “These potatoes should last you at least a week.” Crying, the man thanked Tom and introduced himself as Conner. “Please take care of yourself. See you later,” Tom said and walked away happily. However, soon he was worried his grandmother would blame him for giving potatoes away. After reaching home, he told Donna what he had done nervously. To his surprise, Donna said, “I’m so proud of you.”
“But Tom, the medals are valuable to the man. We should give them back,” added Donna. Tom agreed right away. The next day, they visited Conner and returned the medals. So touched, Conner thanked them again and again. After that day, vendors in the market heard about Tom’s acts of kindness, and they also offered to help Conner out. Tom was happy that a small act of his own helped someone in need and inspired kindness in others.

“Be quiet.” No one actually ever said that to me — in fact, it was usually the opposite “Speak up.” “What did you say?” “I couldn’t understand you.” But every time someone told me to be louder, to be clearer, I wanted to shut my mouth and never open it again.
Years of living with a lisp (口齿不清) had taught me that it was better to say nothing than to speak and risk being misunderstood, leading to embarrassment and awkwardness. As a result of my silence, I felt distanced from most of my peers, having only a few people I felt were friends. “Kathryn? Oh, she’s quiet.” That’s what most people would say when they thought of me. “Quiet” might as well have been part of my name. I was okay with that. I didn’t need to be heard.
September of last year that all changed.
I started my first day of creative writing class with Ms. Haist. She is one of those teachers you don’t feel frightened to approach; you know she will help you if you need it. I had expected to fill out plot diagrams and learn the proper way to punctuate dialogue. However, every day we would be given a different writing prompt (提示词) and then, if we wished, we could share what we had written with the class. I remember sitting and listening to others read their work, and I distinctly remember thinking: That will never be me. I’ll never have the courage to do that.
Then, one day in October, I was really pleased with what I had written, so pleased that I wanted to share. I remember my heart pounding in my chest as I raised my hand to read, and those urgent little voices in my mind listing all the reasons why it wasn’t a good idea: They won’t understand you. You have a lisp, remember? Besides, your writing isn’t that good. Be quiet. Be quiet. I was about to withdraw my hand when I met Ms. Haist’s encouraging eyes.

    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】I swallowed the voices down and let my real voice come out. At first, my voice was very low. I read my articles carefully. After I finished the first paragraph fluently, my classmate’s eyes all looked at me with affirmation. Having finished reading this article, I was praised by Ms. Hester for the content that I wrote and the changes that I made in class. It was the first time that I had received warm applause from my teachers and classmates. When I went home, a card was found in my notebook with a sentence saying “everything is possible”. There was no doubt that it was given to me by Ms. Hester.
Soon I was reading out loud nearly every day. In the morning, I would practice my favorite novels near the grove at school, because I wanted to realize my dream. My dream is to become an announcer in the next semester, which would entitle me to share the students’ writing and my favorite articles. In class, I tried my best to seize every opportunity to improve myself. Gradually, I began to have normal conversations with my classmates and got along well with them. Everything in life was becoming more and more beautiful.

In late December, the cow path near our house in Tennessee was still covered with leaves, but I knew snow would be falling soon enough. My younger brother, Buddy Earl, and I were on an important mission: Go to Uncle Tommie’s place and get a goose(鹅). The hiking over Little Mountain and getting there would be worth it. Uncle Tommie raised the best geese around, and he’d offered to give us one for Christmas dinner.
Uncle Tommie met us at the door. “I’m not rushing you boys,” he said, “but as light snow started, you’d better get the goose and head home.” It didn’t take me long to pick up a goose from his yard. Buddy and I said a quick thank you and goodbye. The snow came down harder, wind blowing every way.
“I’m as cold as ice. How about you?” asked Buddy.
I tapped the goose’s head. “I wish we had feathers to keep us warm like you,” I said. “Or heavier coats.”
“Doug, I’m freezing,” Buddy said. I could hardly hear him over the wind and my own chattering teeth. “I think we should go back.” The idea was attractive, but we were closer to home than to Uncle Tommie’s house. We had to push on.
I held the goose closer to my chest. The bird was the only warm thing about me. I stepped in front of my brother. “Buddy, open your coat!” “Are you crazy?” He asked. “I’ll lose the little warmth I have.” When he saw I was serious, he slowly unzipped (拉开……的拉链) his coat and opened it. I placed the warm goose inside his coat and zipped it back up. “Make sure you keep the goose’s head out so it can breathe.” Buddy sighed happily. My plan was working.

Then we’ll do without it,” my parents announced. “Hooray!” we sprang to our feet. That Christmas, we didn’t have a grand feast, but came upon a hero in our life. (75 words)

It was 11:30 a.m, and the fishing so far had been fruitless. Not another boat in sight. Andrew Sherman spotted a speck (斑点) on the horizon. As the speck approached, it started to look like a boat. “Jack,” he yelled to his son. “A boat headed straight at us!” Unbelievable. Miles of open ocean, and this boat was on course to T-bone them.
The Shermans stared at the interloper (闯入者) in surprise. Four fishing lines out, music blaring, except there wasn’t a soul in sight. The captain must have gone below, leaving his boat sailing along at 10 mph.
    “Follow it, Jack,” Andrew said.
Jack hit the gas. “Hey! Hey!” the Shermans shouted. Nothing. A horrifying new thought took shape: The captain had gone below, all right—and suffered a heart attack.
Father and son switched places, and Andrew drove their boat alongside the other while Jack jumped onto the other boat’s deck, bringing the boat to a stop. Then he ventured down into the cabin. He came back up a moment later. “Empty,” he said.
“It’s a ghost boat!” said father and son nearly at the same time.
Andrew called the Coast Guard. “Man overboard,” he told them. The two men could have left it, but they were curious: What happened to the captain? The boat’s GPS system told them the missing captain had marked points along his route indicating good fishing spots. Then the points suddenly stopped a few miles back.
With Andrew driving the ghost boat and Jack driving their own craft, they headed for that last point. They were searching for what they feared would be a body.
What they didn’t know was that the ghost boat’s owner was alive in the water and growing worn out.
Two hours earlier, Sascha Scheller had been fishing when nature called. He leaned over to relieve himself, zipped up, turned back toward the helm (舵柄), and slipped.

    【答案】One possible version:
Suddenly he was in the water. He grasped at the smooth boat, but it went gliding. He grabbed wildly for the swim ladder, but it slipped. In horror, he watched his boat zoom off, taking his life jacket with it. His only hope was to paddle a few miles back to where he’d last seen other boats. A moment later, he spotted a boat in the distance coming straight at him. This was his best chance at being saved. He began to kick wildly, making the biggest splashes possible.
Only when the boat approached did it dawn on Scheller: “That’s my boat!” “You have no idea how happy I am to see you,” Andrew Sherman said, pulling him up aboard and Scheller was fine. He’d been saved from drowning and was grateful the Shermans had taken the time to search for him. That evening Andrew got home. When asked how his day had gone, he said with a grin, “It was a slow day catching fish, but we did catch a man.”

Molly ran back home from school and dropped her schoolbag on the sofa. Then on the table she saw “Mum’s Wish Book” —a mail order catalog from a gift shop. “Mum,” she said excitedly to herself, “this year you’ll get the gloves you want!” Molly had walked a dog for a neighbor and saved her money all year to buy Mum the gloves.
She opened “Mum’s Wish Book” and hoped that she could find these gloves in it. So carefully did she look through that tears ran down her face when she saw the gloves in the catalog. Mum wouldn’t buy them for herself, because the family had a hard time on the farm. She once heard Mum say to Dad, “Maybe some day, I’ll have the money to get them.”
Molly ran out by the back door and went straight to the post office. There she carefully filled out the order form torn from the catalog.
“I need to buy a stamp to send the form.” She said to Mr. Smith, the only worker in the post office.
“Umm, a pair of gloves?” said Mr. Smith, as he passed a stamp to her.
“Yes, It’s a Christmas gift for Mum, but please don’t tell her. It’s our secret, OK?” Molly didn’t realize how white Mr. Smith’s beard was until that moment. In fact, he reminded her of Santa Claus.
As Molly walked back home, she decided to tell Dad her secret. “You’ve got to check the mailbox every day,” said Molly quietly to Dad. He nodded, with a big smile.
Coming home from school every day, Molly peeked at Dad when Mum wasn’t looking , but every time he shook his head.
On Christmas Eve, Dad came back from the mailbox, still empty handed. Molly felt sad when she went to bed, because she didn’t have the gloves for Mum.

Before Christmas dinner, Molly felt so hopeless. As Mum took the apple pies out of the oven, Molly began setting the table mind-absently. Suddenly, they heard someone pulling up the driveway. From the window they saw Mr. Smith making his way to the door, with a box in his hand. Molly was surprised to see Mr. Smith. She rushed to meet him. Mr. Smith handed Mum the box, saying “I believe this is yours.”
    Paragraph 2:
Mum thanked Mr. Smith and took the box. Then she carefully opened the box, in which there was a pair of beautiful gloves, which were on the catalog from a gift shop. Her eyes lit up when she saw the gloves. “Oh, my gloves! But who bought the gift for me?” she asked excitedly and doubtfully, looking from Dad to Molly. “Santa did,” said Molly smilingly, her eyes sparkling. “Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas!” said Mr. Smith, with a loud laugh. At that moment, Mr. Smith looked just like Santa Claus. It was Christmas that no one would ever forget.

As Christmas decorations appeared in town, our parents called my two younger brothers and me together. At first, I thought someone had died, because I had never seen my parents look so sad. My brothers and I stood waiting for the awful news.
Mom hugged me as she murmured, “Christmas is going to be different this year. We won't be having a tree or presents. We can barely afford food.”Dad, resting on the couch, beckoned (招手示意) the boys into his arms.“Things will change when I get back to work.”
My family was poorer than dirt. Dad, the only bread-earner in our family, worked in a coal mine. However, soon after returning to work at the end of a long strike, Dad was hurt in a rock fall that broke bones in his foot. Lying on the couch with the swollen foot high on pillows, he didn't talk or smile much. There was little to smile about. No work, no income.
At nine years old, I mothered my younger brothers: Rodney, aged six, and Stevie, three. We shared a small bedroom. That night, after our parents’ announcement, we talked.
Rodney began. “Em, did you see how sad Mommy and Daddy looked? I thought Mommy was gonna cry.
“Me, too. Daddy's foot’s … this big” whispered Stevie, holding out his arms.
“Yeah..We're in hard times," I said.“It makes Mommy and Daddy sad."
“But we don't have to be sad," I added, hoping to brighten the mood.
“Since there are still several weeks to go, maybe we can do something to cheer them up," I said with overdone enthusiasm. The boys proposed, “We can take the money from our piggy bank...earn some more..and surprise them with gifts!"
“I can run errands(跑腿) for Aunt Em and neighbors to earn money," I offered.
“Yeah," Rodney added, “I and Stevie can return bottles and save the deposit money... instead of buying candy!" He pushed Stevie gently with his elbow.
    “Yeah!”Stevie clutched his hands together.
    We had a plan!
Until they nodded off, I coached my little brothers (especially Stevie) in ways to guard our secret. “Don't talk about it during the day."

We awoke in the morning, transforming from sad children to the secret agents on an important mission! The following weeks saw me dashing home from school each day determined to earn a penny. I was usually greeted by secret winks and grins- one with a missing tooth, and the other with tiny, straight teeth- both assuring me our secret was safe. A few days before Christmas, we gleefully went shopping. We bought Mom a new apron, and for Dad, a pair of leather slippers. The night of Christmas Eve seemed endless. I awoke occasionally, or one of my brothers woke me asking, “How long till daylight?”
On Christmas morning, we hurried into the living room and handed the gifts to Mommy and Daddy. Surprised and stunned, they showered us with tons of confusing questions. “How did you..?” “Where did you..?” “Who gave you...?"" As we explained how we'd schemed, earned and saved our money, their faces relaxed into expressions of astonishment. Then, with glistening tears, Mom and Dad wrapped us three into their arms. On this special Christmas morning, with the five of us hugging, talking, laughing and listening with fresh affection and gratitude, I understood that rich or poor, we would keep together and be happy in one another.

Flora and her dad were going to move to a new house. Friday, a truck would come for the furniture. Then the next week, workers would dig up the yard. Where Flora and Papi had grown flowers, the workers would put in a parking lot.
“Our poor flowers,” Flora sighed to herself, looking at the bright purple blooms and soft and green weed coming out of the soil. She sat outside, selling things she didn’t want to take to the new house. Beside her hung a sign that said “Yard Sale”. Her yard sale was the first one of the year on Apple Street, and several of her neighbors had come over to have a look.
Papi came out. He held a dish piled high with nuts. “Here’s a snack for everyone,” he said. Flora’s dad loved sharing things. Most of all he loved sharing jokes. He smiled when he saw Flora’s sign and winked (眨眼) at the customers gathered around.
“Yard sale? What are you selling yards of? Or meters of?” he asked. “Ribbons? Carpet? Cloth? Where’s your ruler?”
“Not that kind of yard,” joked Mrs. Ciro. “It must be this nice grassy yard we’re standing on that’s for sale.”
“How much for the weed by your sign?” asked Mr. Johnson, joking.
Flora gave no response. She didn’t think their jokes were funny. She felt extremely in low spirits at the thought that the lovely yard was already sold, and soon their poor flowers and weed would be ruined.” Deader than a doorknob,’ Papi’s papi would say”, she thought to herself bitterly, “What’s worse, the new house doesn’t have any flowers at all.”
With a sigh, Flora dug her heels deep into the grass. But when she felt the soft earth move under her heels, she knew what she could do.
She whispered her clever plan to Papi. He nodded, smiling, and sat down in her seat instead.

    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Flora fetched old flowerpots and found a trowel to dig with. She walked to the yard, knelt down, and found the right place to shovel. Carefully she dug up chunks of earth that had flowers growing out of them. Then, she gently packed each chunk and more soil in a pot, deciding to carry two inside. They would come along to the new house. The others she lined up near her sign. All the work finished, she came back. “Thanks, Papi,” Flora said with smile, taking her seat again.
Now she was ready for selling the yard and joking with customers. Mr. Johnson was picking some toys from the stand. Mrs. Ciro picked several story books. And the two asked jokingly again, “But how much for the yard?” This time, Flora smiled. Her smile was just like Papi’s. “Zero cents!” she said, “Pick any pot of yard you like!” Hearing this, all the neighbors burst into laughter. “Now our yard can survive,” Flora thought to herself delightedly, “both in my new house and on Apple Street” she added.

When my little brother Tom was four, Mom said something like “I’d give anything to have a few more hours in the day.” And Tom said, “Why don’t we buy a bigger clock?” If time worked that way, I could have used an extra-big clock last week!
Our teacher had asked us to make an art project showing how plants eat, “I can’t believe we only have two nights to finish it,” Noah said with a sigh. “I have no idea how I’ll get mine done.”
I didn’t say anything. Not because I was nervous—I wasn’t nervous at all. 1 love art projects! In fact, I was so relaxed that I didn’t work on the project at all on Monday night. I planned to start the minute I got home from baseball practice on Tuesday. But there was just one thing.
I forgot baseball would run later than usual because it was the day of Baseball Buddies, which happens every month, and it’s a chance for us older students to practise baseball with the adorable younger kids. The second I got home, I threw the entire craft box (手工盒) onto the kitchen table, took out my “How Plants Eat” paper, and started to work. But just then, the telephone rang.
It was my friend Ollie, who said his grandmother Abuela had just made cookies and wanted to know if I’d come help decorate them. I love decorating cookies, and I love, love, love Abucla’s world-famous Thanksgiving cookies that only happen once a year!
I had no choice. I had to go. Ollie and I put all the star cookies with red jam filling in one group, and all the snowflakes with white cream-cheese filling in another. It was 7 o'clock when I finally got home.1 planned to work on my project right after we ate. But then another interruption hit me.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Just as I was about to start, Dad said, “Joanna, it’s your turn to do the dishes.”
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Looking at the big “F” on my paper, I started to reflect on what I had done these days.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】    Just as I was about to start, Dad said, “Joanna, it’s your turn to do the dishes.” What Dad said was a hammer blow to me, leaving me into deeper anxiety. However, that was one of our family rules, so I had to do the dishes reluctantly. The clinking of dishes were disquieting sounds from hell to me, reminding me that the clock was ticking second by second. After I threw the last dish into the cabinet, I rushed into my bedroom, only to find that the hour hand had moved past ten. Without much time left, I finished the assignment in a hurry. The next day, I handed in it nervously.
Looking at the big “F” on my paper, I started to reflect on what I had done these days. My life seemed in a mess these days, arising from my loose attitude and chaotic schedule. My energy was segmented and occupied by some trivial matters which had nothing to do with my project. Out of guilt, I explained to my teacher and promised this would never happen again. After this experience, I eventually comprehended the importance of time, and began to arrange for my schedule with caution. With confidence, I was firmly convinced that I could get a satisfying score in the next assignment.
别无选择:have to/have no choice but to do
    ②.冲入:rush into/dash to
    ③.理解:comprehend/understand
    情绪类
    ①.令人不安的:disquieting/disturbing
    ②.焦虑地:nervously/anxiously
【点睛】[高分句型1]. What Dad said was a hammer blow to me, leaving me into deeper anxiety.(由What引导的主语从句)
[高分句型2]. After I threw the last dish into the cabinet, I rushed into my bedroom, only to find that the hour hand had moved past ten.  (由After引导的时间状语从句)
