Researchers at Stanfrd University have develped a new material that can mve heat ut f buildings and int space. The researchers say the material can cl buildings even n ht days. The cling material is a very thin sheet with many layers that culd be placed n a rf like slar panels(板). Hwever, instead f turning sunlight int energy as slar panels d, the material turns heat int infrared(红外线的) radiatin.
Shanhui Fan is an electrical engineering prfessr at Stanfrd University. He says that the panels have a layer f material that is like sand. The panels act like a mirrr. They take heat ut f buildings and reflect the light frm the sun. And he says bth the heat and sunlight are sent 100 kilmeters int uter space. “It’s a structure that cls itself withut electricity input, even under the sun. S, what it des is basically radiate heat t uter space and als reflect the sunlight s it desn’t get heated up by the sun. Mr. Fan says it is like having a windw int space. The heat is sent directly int space withut increasing the air temperature
He says buildings in develping cuntries that d nt have electricity r air cnditining culd use the panels. “In areas where electricity is ut f reach fr many peple, there is a ptential benefit fr string medicine r even fd. In many f these situatins, being able t reduce the temperature is imprtant. And this wuld prvide a way t d it.”
The researchers say the main prblem is creating actual cling systems using the high-tech panels. They say it may be pssible t develp a cling spray(喷涂)that culd be used n present slid structures. They believe the cling spray technlgy culd be develped in the next three t five years. They say as much as 15 percent f the energy used in the United States is spent prviding pwer t air cnditining systems.

Accrding t many recent surveys, there are fewer and fewer students reading newspapers frm middle schl t cllege, which wrries bth parents and teachers a lt. In my pinin, several reasns result in this phenmenn.
The mst significant reasn is that the rise f many ther infrmatin Media, fr example, internet, mbile phne, TV and s n. In the past we nly culd read newspapers t knw what happened arund us, while nw we nly need t turn n the TV, r pen ur cmputers, which is mre cnvenient. In additin, cmputer and ther media prvide us with mre newly news and mre specific details, which we can get easily and withut payment. There is als an advantage that the new media have while newspapers dn’t—a large munt f pictures, which make the infrmatin r news mre lively. Therefre, mre and mre students tend t surf the internet r watch TV instead f reading newspapers.
Anther reasn that few students read newspapers is that they have little time t d such things. We all knw that nwadays students, especially middle schl and high schl students are buried in the bks almst every day t get gd grades. Even in weekends, they are sent t hetergeneus cram schl by their parents t becme superir in schl. Thus there is little free time fr them t d ther things, nt t mentin reading newspapers.
The student’ indifference t the current affairs als enables few newspaper readers. The 90s, mst f tday’s students, always pay mre attentin t fashin and nly care fr themselves. Lacking a sense f cllectivism and natinalism, the majrity f the 90s have little interest in current affairs, which are the basic cntent f mst newspapers, s that there are fewer and fewer students reading newspapers.
Different utside and inside reasns have cntributed t the few newspaper readers amng students. Therefre, teachers shuld encurage their students t frm the habit f reading newspapers regularly and free the students frm their heavy study burden s that they can affrd t braden their hrizn thrugh newspapers, which is beneficial fr their future develpment.
    29. Accrding t Paragraph 2, few students read newspapers because .
    A. reading newspapers isn’t gd fr them t get gd grades
    B. they are mre interested in fashin than current affairs
    C. it’s cheaper and easier t get infrmatin frm the Internet r TV
    D. they can nly knw what is happening via the Internet r n TV
    30. It can be inferred frm the passage that .
    A. it’s better fr students t gain infrmatin via the Internet than ther media
    B. high schl students are t busy with their study nw
    C. mre and mre students are addicted t the Internet nw
    D. mre students will fall in lve with newspapers
    31. What des the authr mstly want t tell us in the passage?
    A. There are many advantages f reading newspapers.
    B. There are reasns why few students read newspapers.
    C. The advantages f surfing the Internet are bvius.
    D. It’s very imprtant t read newspapers.

The traditinal news media in America has been having a rugh time in the last few years. Accrding t a recent survey, mre Americans have a negative(43%) than a psitive(33%) view f the news media, and are finding it harder t be well infrmed because it is getting harder t determine which news is accurate.
The prblem is preference. While ideally the media shuld be bjective and hld pwer t accunt, in reality we knw that mst news utlets belng t a certain party and have their wn agenda t advance. Whether state-wned r run by sme shady tax-aviding billinaire, getting “the masses” t view the wrld frm a certain perspective has always been a priceless pwer t wield.
S why is trust in the media s lw? Well, accrding t the same survey, 8 ut f 10 Americans believe that the news media are critical t their demcracy. The gap between these nble expectatins f an hnest, bjective media and the perfrmance that they actually deliver is large. Times when the mask slips and examples f media manipulatin(操纵)are expsed are hugely damaging t trust, and peple naturally turn t scial media fr thers, even-easier-t-manipulate surces. Thus we are in the current state in which we find urselves:cnfused and mistrustful.
Peple have been psting examples f hw media can use different techniques f deceptin, t trick yu int seeing exactly what they wanted yu t see. As yu will discver, perspective really is everything! It will ges t shw that a healthy dse f skepticism ges a lng way, and getting yur news frm a wide range f different surces is yur best bet t a mre runded view f the wrld we live in. Scial media is gd in that respect, but bad in terms f regulatin, trlling and peple shuting hrrible things at each ther. The gd ld traditinal news media really is needed as a frum fr reasnable debate and expert pinin, but they gtta stp with the manipulatin already!
    32. What des paragraph 2 want t cnvey?
    A. Peple have prejudice fr media.
    B. The media can take cntrl f the party.
    C. The media have acted as a tl t mask the truth.
    D. The media have a priceless pwer.
    33. What’s yur understanding f the sentence “As yu will discver, perspective really is everything!”?
    A. Peple shuld nt have faith in what the media says because sme news are nt true.
    B. Peple shuld nt be t curius abut things arund
    C. Peple shuld refer t scial media rather than traditinal media if wanting t knw the truth f news.
    D. The spirit f suspect and diverse surces are gd ways t help peple recgnize the truth f the wrld.
    34. What’ s the structure f the passage?
    A. ①→②③→④B. ①→②③④
    C. ①②③→④D. ①②→③→④
    35. What’ the best title fr the passage?
    A. Where’s trust in the media
    B. Why peple’s trust in the media falls
    C. Hw peple treat trust in the media
    D. What’ s trust in the media

    Ways t Respectfully Disagree
It’s easier t agree than disagree. 36 Unfrtunately, many f us either shy away cmpletely frm disagreements r lse it when things dn’t g ur way. These tips can help keep disagreements cnstructive.
Use “I” t cmmunicate hw yu feel, what yu think and what yu want r need. 37 Fr example, telling yur parents “Yu always remind me abut my husewrk when yu knw I have much hmewrk” has a very different tne frm “I’m feeling pressured because I have a lt f hmewrk tnight. Can I d thse chres tmrrw?”
Listen t the ther’s pinin. 38 That makes it mre likely that he r she will d the same fr yu. When the ther persn is talking, try t stp yurself frm thinking abut why yu disagree r what yu’ll say next.
39 This is the imprtant thing yu can d t keep a cnversatin n track. Of curse, it’s a huge challenge t stay calm when yu feel angry abut smething, especially if their persn yu’re talking t gets heated.
40 If yu’ve ever been n the receiving end f smene’s put-dwns(贬损的话), yu knw hw valuable using respectful language and behavir can be. S instead f saying what yu might be thinking (That’s a stupid idea!), try saying “I dn’t agree, and here is why.”
Respect ges beynd difficult cnversatins, f curse. Being helpful and cnsiderate twards family members, teachers r caches in ur everyday actins helps us establish a fundatin fr thse times when we might disagree.
    A. Stay calm.
    B. Lk int the ther’s eyes.
    C. Using ‘yu’ statements can sund aggressive.
    D. Avid putting dwn the ther persn’s ideas and beliefs.
    E. Then yu can calmly present yur case and why yu disagree.
    F. Being a gd listener shws that yu respect the ther persn.
    G. But we can learn a lt frm cnversatins where we dn’t agree.
