It's knwn t all that rainfrests are imprtant. But d yu knw why?
Trpical rainfrests tk between 60 and 100 millin years t evlve (进化) and are believed t be the ldest and mst cmplex landbased ecsystem n earth, cntaining ver 30 millin species f plants and animals. That's half f the Earth's wild animal species and at least twthirds f its plant species!
Rainfrests stre water. In fact, it is believed that the Amaznian frests alne stre ver half f the Earth's rainwater! Rainfrest trees draw water frm the frest flr and release it back int the atmsphere. Withut rainfrests cntinually recycling huge quantities f water, feeding the rivers, lakes and irrigatin systems, drughts wuld becme mre cmmn.
D yu knw that we als depend n trees t cleanse (净化) ur atmsphere? They absrb the carbn dixide that we breathe ut, and prvide the xygen we need. Hwever, when rainfrest trees are burnt, they release carbn dixide, which pllutes the atmsphere and cntributes t glbal warming.
Surprisingly, sil in the rainfrest is very pr in nutrients. This is because the nutrients are stred in the huge numbers f trees and plants rather than in the sil. Tree rts bind the sil tgether, while the canpy (树荫) prtects the sil frm heavy rain. When a tree dies and its trunk falls t the frest flr, it breaks dwn and the nutrients it cntains are recycled. Hwever, if trees are remved frm the frest, the nutrients are remved with it. What's wrse, the unprtected sil is then simply washed away by heavy rain, causing flds in lwland rivers while leaving upland rivers dry.
Many lcal peple have been living in harmny with the rainfrest fr thusands f years, depending n it fr their fd, shelter and medicines. When il and lgging cmpanies cme t remve vast areas f frest, they bring diseases which peple there have n resistance t and threaten their survival. Often they are als frced t mve away frm their hmes t unfamiliar places, smetimes even being killed in the prcess.
21.What can we learn abut rainfrests frm Paragraph 2?
A.They are impssible t recver nce damaged.
B.They are t ld and cmplex t evlve themselves.
C.They have fewer wild animal species than plant species.
D.They're imprtant hmes t wild animal and plant species.
22.Why des the authr mentin the pr sil in the rainfrest?
A.T stress the imprtance f trees t sil.
B.T encurage imprvement f sil there.
C.T explain a very interesting phenmenn.
    D.T raise peple's awareness f prtecting sil.
23.What can we learn frm the passage?
A.We can burn rainfrests t make the land richer.
B.We shuld d ur best t prevent glbal warming.
C.We shuld prtect rainfrests instead f destrying them.
D.We can depend n many things t cleanse ur atmsphere.

A new study has identified pllutin as the wrld's N.1 killer. Study rganizers say pllutin is respnsible fr mre premature deaths than war, terrrism, natural disasters, smking and disease. By saying premature death, the researchers mean dying befre the average age f death within a ppulatin grup. Many f these deaths can be prevented.

The reprt said the large majrity f pllutinrelated deaths take place in develping cuntries. The researchers say leaders in thse cuntries are mre cncerned abut building their ecnmics and public services than envirnmental cntrls. Sme f the mst affected cuntries are Bangladesh, China, Haiti, India, Pakistan, Nrth Krea and Suth Sudan.
But Richard Fuller, anther writer f the reprt, said pllutin is tied t slw ecnmic develpment in bth rich and pr natins. He said, “Finance ministers still hld firmly that yu have t let industry pllutin r else yu wn't develp. What peple dn't realize is that peple wh are sick r dead cannt cntribute t the ecnmy. They need t be lked after.”
The reprt said that 9 millin premature deaths a year is nly a cnservative figure. It said the actual number is likely t be much higher.
A separate study by the Wrld Bank said reducing pllutin must be a tp gal. It said that settling this prblem wuld lead t appraches t ther dangers, including pr nutritin (营养) and rising temperatures n the Earth's surface.
24.Which is mainly t blame fr pllutin accrding t the reprt?
    A.Pr cuntries.B.Rich cuntries.

B.Premature deaths cannt be prevented wrldwide.
C.Pllutin has smething t d with slw develpment.
D.Pllutin has caused mre premature deaths than expected.
26.Why is “A separate study” mentined in the last paragraph?
A.T prvide mre infrmatin abut pllutin.
B.T make the findings f the first study mre cnvincing.
C.T ffer mre specific appraches t deal with pllutin.
D.T emphasize the relatinship between pllutin and glbal warming.
27.Which f the fllwing can be best used as the title f the passage?
A.Pllutin Is the Wrld's Number One Killer.
    B.Pllutin Is Becming Increasingly Serius.
    C.What Makes Pllutin Increasingly Serius.
D.Hw Peple Deal with Pllutin Wrldwide.
