You also have to wait at the airport, and sometimes you have to transfer(换乘)onto a different airplane. If you add all of that extra time, the trip takes at least 20 hours. But in the future, the trip from New York to Beijing might only take two hours.Right now, a company is developing something called ET3, which stands for “evacuated tube(真空管)transport technology(技术)”. Here’s how it works. A tube goes all the way from New York to Beijing. The tube is only a few meters wide. Capsules(舱)move through the tube. Six people can sit in one capsule. The capsules use electricity instead of oil. For international travel, the capsules can travel at about 6, 500 kilometers per hour. That’s much faster than airplanes—most modern airplanes usually only fly at about 800 kilometers per hour.So how is this possible? How can these capsules travel so fast? The answer is that there is no air inside the tube. When airplanes fly, they have to move through air. The air slows the airplanes down. Because there isn’t any air in the ET3 tubes, the capsules are able to move at a very high speed. Also, the capsules are quite light. Each only weighs 183 kilograms. There are other advantages to ET3. Because it uses electricity, it’s quite clean. Also, it’s a lot quieter than airplanes and cars. Finally, ET3 tubes and capsules don’t require very much building materials.Of course, ET3 doesn’t come into use yet. The technology is still being developed. Developers still have to solve a lot of problems. The biggest problem is that right now ET3 would be far too expensive. In order to make ET3 cheaper, we will need much better technology. It’s exciting to think of how ET3 will change the travel in the future. Who knows? Maybe someday you’ll be able to have lunch in New York and dinner in Beijing.26According to the passage, an ET3 looks more like a _________.Aship Bbus Cplane Dsubway train27ET3 travels at the very high speed because _________.Ait is powered by electricity and oilBit is much lighter than an airplaneCit moves through a tube without airDit is made up of fewer capsules28From the passage, the writer expects that ________.Amodern technology will be used in airplanesBET3 will take the place of any other way of transportationCmore money will be spent on the technology of ET3DET3 will change the travel in the future greatlyBThe Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous landmarks (地标) in Australia. This summer holiday, I got the chance to visit it and find out what makes this building so great. As our guide told us, the Sydney Opera House was built with a kind of self-cleaning material that is very rare even today.First, we visited the Drama Hall. We learned about the designer of the Sydney Opera House—Danish architect Jorn Utzon. He was the winner of an international design competition. However, he designed the building according to his own tastes, which caused several problems. The project was completed 10 years late. The cost of construction (建造) was over budget (预算). Utzon didn’t get to see it after it was built. Then, we visited Joan Sutherland Theatre. The theater was refurbished (翻新) in 2017 with new high-tech equipment. There was a rehearsal (排练) that day, so we could hear the beautiful sound of the orchestra. Finally, we arrived at the largest theater—Concert Hall. It has hosted many kinds of performances, from classical to rock music. A few years ago, a sports event was even held there. Before we finished the tour, the guide told us the rest of Utzon’s story. In 1966, Utzon had an argument with the government and refused to give in. He had to leave the country. It was a hard time in his life. But many years later, people understood him and saw the building as a masterpiece. From this tour, I learned that the opera house is not only a famous building, but a carrier of history and culture.29Which is the correct order of the author’s trip to the Sydney Opera House?AConcert Hall—Drama Hall—Joan Sutherland TheatreBDrama Hall—Concert Hall—Joan Sutherland TheatreCJoan Sutherland Theatre—Concert Hall—Drama HallDDrama Hall—Joan Sutherland Theatre—Concert Hall30According to the story, Jorn Utzon __________.Adesigned the Sydney Opera House with other people’s helpBhad an argument with the government over the buildingCwon an international design competition in 1966Dvisited the Sydney Opera House before he left the country31What does the author think about the Sydney Opera House?AIt was a waste of money and not worth visiting.BIt is the best place to visit in Australia.CIt is a part of Australia’s history and culture.DIt is famous because of its designer.32What does the underlined word “masterpiece” in paragraph 5 probably mean?AAn expert on buildings.BA great work of art.CA master of designing.DA shocking piece of news.33What might be the best title for the article?AAustralia in my eyesBA legendary architect—Jorn UtzonCA trip to Sydney Opera HouseDA night at the operaCAre you sorry for not traveling during National Day holiday? If you stay at home at that time, I think you are very lucky. Why? Because there are too many people everywhere. In many places of interest in China, it’s too crowded to do anything. It was too crowded on the Great Wall on October 1st, 2018. You even couldn’t take photos of yourself or your friends. All that we could see were people. It was reported that there were about twenty people per meter on the Great Wall. My friends told me they could see nothing but many people on the Great Wall. “We couldn’t walk if the people in front of us didn’t walk,” he said. He showed us a photo on the Great Wall. In the photo, we hardly found him. There were too many people. So some people suggest that we should not have the gold week any more. But other people disagree with that. What’s your idea of it?
