In 1665, Johannes Vermeer, one of the greatest painters in Netherlands, completed his masterpiece “Girl With a Pearl Earring.” On an April day 357 years later, Janine Strong slowed her bike to stop, paused her fitness app, and watched as the snaking line of her cycling route drew the shape of Vermeer’s masterpiece over the streets of Brooklyn.
Ms. Strong creates what has come to be known as “GPS art” — a practice that uses the Global Positioning System mapping capabilities of modern phone apps to create digital drawings with an athlete’s route. It has grown with the widespread availability of satellite tracking for use by ordinary people. In fact, the idea has been around since before the popularity of smartphones for fitness like Strava released in 2009.
In 2003, The New York Times Magazine told of how Jeremy Wood got the idea for GPS art. Mr. Wood said while he was using a GPS tracker on a flight and the plane flew in a holding pattern above Heath-row Airport, he was attracted by the pattern appearing on his Garmin GPS device. In recent years, technology has advanced enough to create visual maps in real time using a phone or smart watch.
“I get bored cycling on the same path in the same streets,” Ms. Strong said. “Creating GPS art gives me more reasons to hit the pavement, which makes cycling a lot easier. I always have a big smile on my face when it works out and I upload it and it’s done,” she added. “It’s a very satisfying feeling.”
To complete her digital vision of “Girl With a Pearl Earring,” she biked almost 50 miles around southern Brooklyn, carefully checking Strava to make sure each turn, circle, and straight line was achieving the shape of earring and head covering of Vermeer’s original.
4.What can we infer about Janine Strong in paragraph1?
A.She tests a fitness app. B.She is an innovative cyclist.
C.She likes pearl earrings. D.She is a painter of some note.
5.What information can we get about GPS art?
A.It is rarely used by common people. B.It arose after the popularity of fitness apps.

6.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The origin of GPS art. B.The prospect of GPS art.
C.The function of a GPS tracker. D.The advancement of a GPS device.
7.Who will be most likely to create GPS art?
A.Painting lovers. B.Mobile game players.
C.Software developers. D.Running enthusiasts.

Virginia Guarddon can’t remember her life without some sort of art. She stared playing the piano when she was 6. At 10, she came across works by the Spanish poet Gustavo Adolfo Becquer, and she was hooked. She started writing poems that would be featured in a couple of books.
There’s something else that’s always been in her life: a type of skin lupus (狼疮) . “All of my life, I tried to find ways to make it better,” Guarddon said. “And that led to my trying to help others feel better about their skin.” The attempt took her to the U.S. in 1994, where she studied science and piano. And then she began a career in skin care. “ To me, skin is a form of art,” she said. “ I love making women feel beautiful.”
“ I wanted to create something of my own,” Guarddon said. “ I wanted to realize my dream.” Her dream? Combining all of her passions into one.
The result is Poet’s Garden Apothecary, Guarddon’s own skin care line and the online business: Poet’s Garden Alchemist. Guarddon teamed up with a laboratory to create her line of products, which she called “skin poetry”. The products, made for every skin type, include an oil face cleanser, day cream and night cream. With each purchase, customers receive a custom poem from one of the company’s contributors. And some earnings from the business go to the Poetry Foundation.
In the first few months of running business, Guarddon said, Poet’s Garden Alchemist is turning into an online poet’s movement. She often hosts live poetry readings on Instagram. “ To me, skin care and poetry go together,” she says. “ I’m trying to show that beauty is not just skin deep. It’s about our voice and how we express it.”
8.What inspired Guarddon to start her skin care art?
A.Gustavo’s works. B.Her passion for music.
C.Her early experience. D.The dream of being a poet.
9.What can we know about “skin poetry” products?
A.They are made in a laboratory.
B.They are created to cure skin lupus.
C.They win high praise from customers.
D.They get financial support from the Poetry Foundation.
10.Which of the following best describes Guarddon?
A.Reliable and modest. B.Smart and hard-working.
C.Creative and caring. D.Determined and ambitious.
11.What can be the best title for the text?
A.How to Cure Skin Lupus B.A Special Skin Product
C.The Secret to Running Business D.Putting Passions into Business

Giant pandas are among the most lovable animals alive today. Unlike their relatives, such as the polar bear, pandas don’t eat meat but survive on a diet of only bamboo. So why and how have pandas abandoned their taste for meat to pick up a vegetarian diet?
Pandas today don’t eat meat. However, they’ve kept much of their meat-eating adaptations from times past. Their digestive systems have not changed much from their meat-eating days. Out of the huge 12. 5 kg of bamboo they eat in a single day, only about 17% of it is digested. To survive, pandas eat large amounts of bamboo while having a low-metabolic (新陈代谢的),lazy lifestyle to make up for the poor energy return.
The giant panda’s shift to a vegetarian diet is in line with the inactivation of a specific gene-Taslrl, which provides them with the ability to taste certain amino acids (氨基酸) abundant in meat. Its inactivation in pandas would lead to their dietary change.
Pandas have evolved to a great degree to cope with their relatively recent bamboo-eating lifestyle. Pandas must seize long and thin pieces of bamboo shoots. To assist with this, they have developed a long “fake-thumb” (伪拇指). So giant pandas have six fingers in each paw which provides better support for them to seize object such as bamboo in one paw quickly. Researchers have found that the surface of the panda’s tongue is different. While other bears and many meat-eating animals have smooth tongues, pandas have evolved tiny projections on the surface of their tongues that serve to file down food. This is especially useful for pandas as they remove the outer cover of bamboo.
Time will tell if pandas will adapt and survive, go back to eating meat, or disappear in the wild. Whatever the future holds, we can be grateful that, for the time being, we get to share our planet with these adorable animals.
12.Why are the numbers mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To illustrate the variety of food.
B.To represent the evolutionary rule of pandas.
C.To describe the changes of living environment.
D.To show the ineffectiveness of digestive system.
13.What caused pandas’ change in diet?
A.The low-metabolic ability.
B.The amino acids in meat.
C.The Taslrl gene’s inactivation.
D.The supplies of bamboo.
14.What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Seizing bamboo shoots.
B.The low energy return.
C.Developing more fingers.
D.The vegetarian diet.
15.Which aspect of pandas does paragraph 4 focus on?
A.The preference for bamboo.
B.The evolutionary feature in eating.
C.The unique lifestyle.
D.The special appearance.

I must admit, I haven’t always liked animals. In fact, I distrusted them greatly while growing up, and I still fear the ones I don’t know personally. What set my beliefs in stone was being attacked—not once but many times, including the summer after second grade when I was bitten by a rabbit. Then, when I was nine and riding my dirt bike down the road, a large dog charged me and tried to bite my ankle. After all those negative experiences, there was one thing I knew for sure: All creatures, great and small, were no friends of mine.
After college in California, I returned to live the single life in Las Vega. Then I met Lisa. In no time at all, we fell in love, married and moved into a new house. Despite my avoidance of animals, Lisa had a dog called Bailey. Bailey didn’t like me, but he tolerated my existence once he realized I wasn’t going anywhere.
Things changed as spring came. We welcomed a new member of our family: our son Evan. One evening Evan grabbed hold of the dog’s tail. The irritated dog paused and turned to look at his stuck tail but waited patiently until being released. Still the stories I’d heard of animals attacking babies worries me.
Then my worst fear occurred. I sat on the couch (沙发) reading after a long day while my wife worked at the dining-room table paying the bills. I saw Evan crawl across the family-room carpet as he made his way behind the couch. One minute, all was quiet and then Bailey entered the room and headed to where Evan had crawled. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard the dog start a fearful barking behind me.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Throwing the book away, I rushed around the couch with great fear.
