    Listening and speaking: Visiting the SPCA

    设计说明

    通过让学生猜一猜生活中常见的动物,让学生熟悉本课节话题,由此导入新课。学习生词,扫除语言障碍。将对话分成三部分进行学习,每一部分都先播放录音,让学生跟读,然后就对话回答问题,检验学生的理解能力。接下来,让学生分组练习朗读,并表演,锻炼学生的表达能力。然后讲解本课节的知识点,帮助学生夯实语言基础。最后结合当堂达标的练习,检测学生对本课节知识的掌握情况,查缺补漏。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握本课节新词汇:officer, society, prevention, cruelty, someone, puppy, thirsty, lovely, as, prefer

    2.能力目标

    能听懂有关保护动物的对话,并回答问题。

    3.情感目标

    培养学生保护动物、爱护动物的意识。

    重点掌握本课节新词汇

    难点能听懂有关保护动物的对话,并回答问题。

    教学准备

    PPT课件;活动Listen and act的录音;有关动物的图片,如兔子、鸟、鱼、狗、猫等

    教学过程

    Step 1 Warming up

    1. Guessing game. Show some pictures. Let the students guess which animal it is.

    T: It has red eyes and long ears.

    Answer: Rabbit.

    T: It has a small mouth and a long tail. It can sing and fly.

    Answer: Bird.

    T: It has no legs or arms, but it has a big tail. It can swim.

    Answer: Fish.

    T: It has four legs and a short tail. It likes eating bones.

    Answer: Dog.

    T: It has four legs and a long tail. It likes eating mice.

    Answer: Cat.

    T: It is a young dog.

    Answer: Puppy.

    2. Pair work. Ask the students to work in pairs. Ask and answer like this:

    S1: Which animal would you like to keep as your pet?

    S2: I’d like to keep a … as my pet.

     

    Step 2 Presentation

    Present some new words: officer, society, prevention, cruelty, puppy, thirsty, lovely, prefer.

    puppy n. 小狗;幼犬复数:puppies     lovely adj. 可爱的;有吸引力的

    prefer v. 更喜欢

    SPCA: Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals爱护动物协会

    society n. 社团;协会  prevention n. 预防;防止;防范 cruelty n. 残酷

    officer n. 官员;高级职员

    thirsty adj. 口渴的

     

    Step 3 Learn dialogue one

    Mr Hu and the children are visiting the SPCA.

    Task 1

    1. Play the recording.

    2. Ask the students to listen to the dialogue and repeat.

    Task 2

    1. Ask the students to read the dialogue and answer the questions.

    (1) Where are Mr Hu and his students?

    (2) Who is the man on the left?

    (3) What is the SPCA?

    2. Ask the students to check the answers in groups.

    Answers:

    (1) They are at the SPCA.

    (2) He is an SPCA officer.

    (3) It is the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

     

    Step 4 Learn dialogue two

    Task 1

    1. Play the recording.

    2. Ask the students to listen to the dialogue and repeat.

    Task 2

    1. Ask the students to read the dialogue and answer the questions.

    (1) Where did the officer find the mother dog and her puppies?

    (2) How were they then?

    (3) What did the officer do then?

    2. Ask the students to check the answers in groups.

    Answers:

    (1) He found them in the street.

    (2) They were hungry and thirsty.

    (3) He took them to the SPCA.

     

    Step 5 Learn dialogue three

    Task 1

    1. Play the recording.

    2. Ask the students to listen to the dialogue and repeat.

    Task 2

    1. Ask the students to read the dialogue and answer the questions.

    (1) Can people take animals home to keep them as pets from the SPCA?

    (2) Which puppy does Jill prefer?

    (3) Which puppy does Peter prefer?

    (4) Which puppy does Joe prefer?

    2. Ask the students to check the answers in groups.

    Answers:

    (1) Yes, they can.

    (2) She prefers the black one.

    (3) He prefers the yellow and brown one.

    (4) He prefers the white one.

     

    Step 6 Read and act

    1. Get the students to read the three dialogues in groups of five.

    2. Let some groups act the dialogues out.

    3. Choose the best group.

    Step 7 Language points

    1. I’m an SPCA officer. 我是爱护动物协会的工作人员。

    officer 名词〕官员;高级官员

    officer读音以元音音素开头,其前用不定冠词时,要用an

    An officer comes to help us.一名官员来帮助我们。

    【拓展】office〔名词〕办公室

    My office is over there. 我的办公室在那儿。

    2. It is the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

    它是爱护动物协会。

    prevention名词〕预防;防止;防范

    Prevention of forest fires is important. 森林防火很重要。

    【拓展】prevent 〔动词〕预防;防止;防范

    可接名词、代词或动词-ing形式作宾语,prevent sb. from doing sth.意为“阻止某人做某事”。

    Please prevent him from swimming here.请阻止他在这儿游泳。

    3. Someone left these puppies and their mother in the street.

    有人把这些小狗以及它们的妈妈遗弃在大街上。

    someone不定代词〕某人

    someonesomebody同义,常用于肯定句中。

    I need someone to help me.我需要找个人帮我。

    【注意】 someone作主语时,谓语动词用单数。

    Someone is coming.有人来了。

    【拓展】在疑问句或否定句中常用anybody

    Does anybody live here? 有人住在这儿吗?

    4. The puppies are lovely.小狗很可爱。

    lovely形容词〕可爱的;有吸引力的

    The little cat is so lovely.这只小猫真可爱。

    Lucy is so lovely that we all like her.露西很可爱,所以我们都喜欢她。

    【注意】lovely虽然以-ly结尾,但它并不是副词,而是形容词。类似的词还有friendly等。

    5. Would you like to keep one as your pet?

    你想养一条(狗)作为宠物吗?

    as ①〔介词〕作为;当作

    As a student, we should keep our school clean.

    作为学生,我们应该保持学校整洁。

    ②〔连词〕当……的时候(引导时间状语从句)

    As I was young, I liked swimming very much.

    当我小的时候,我很喜欢游泳。

    ③〔连词〕因为(引导原因状语从句)

    As there is no food, we should go shopping.

    因为没有食物了,我们应该去购物。

    ④〔副词〕跟……一样    常用短语为as…as…“……一样”。
