Listening and speaking: Planning a trip to Beijing
设计说明 让学生结合上节课所学,完成基蒂写给好朋友的一封信,回顾有关去北京旅行的计划。另外,通过给出部分信息,让学生使用句型“It takes…hours to travel from…to…by…”“It costs…yuan.”造句,由此导入新课,为后面的学习做准备。通过听对话、表演对话,让学生熟悉对话内容,了解大意;通过让学生回答问题,让他们抓住主要信息。通过让学生完成乘火车前往北京的对话,培养他们在具体语境中运用所学知识的能力。接下来,设置开放性的结对练习,让学生扮演旅行代理人和咨询问题的人,让他们谈论出行计划。学习对话,通过听和小组练习,让学生掌握对话内容并培养他们的积极性。针对对话设置问题以及填空练习,检验学生快速提取有效信息的能力。然后,指导学生完成信件,进一步巩固所学知识。对重要的知识点进行讲解,打好语言基础。最后,设置适量的当堂检测题目,检测学生对所学知识的实际掌握情况。 教学目标 通过本课节的教学,让学生达成以下目标: 1.知识目标 能够正确运用would like,how long,how much,how,形容词及其比较级,going to; 掌握It takes sb. some time to do sth.句型和It costs…句型。 2.能力目标 通过针对性的问答训练,学会表达并敢于表达,锻炼独立思考的能力。 3.情感目标 学会比较,最终做出合适的选择。 重点难点 重点:能够正确运用would like,how long,how much,how,形容词及其比较级,going to;掌握It takes sb. some time to do sth.句型和It costs…句型。 难点:让学生克服开口讲英语方面的畏惧心理,敢于表达。 教学准备 PPT课件;活动At the agent’s的录音,活动Listen and say的录音。 授课时数 1课时 教学过程 Step 1 Revision 1. Step 2 Warming up 1. Show the following information and ask the students to complete the sentences.

Step 3 Say and act Activity 1 Play the recording for students to listen and repeat. Travel agent: Good morning. Can I help you? Mr Li: Yes, we’d like to travel to Beijing by plane. How long does it take to travel from Garden City to Beijing by plane? Travel agent: It takes about two and a half hours. Mr Li: How much does it cost? Travel agent: One thousand five hundred yuan. Mr Li: That’s expensive. Activity 2 Listen again and ask some pairs to act out the dialogue. Activity 3 1. Answer the following questions about the dialogue. (1) Where would the Li family like to go? (2) How long does it take by plane? (3) How much does it cost? (4) Is that cheap? 2. Check the answers. Answers: (1) Beijing. (2) About two and a half hours. (3) One thousand five hundred yuan. (4) No, it isn’t.
Step 4 Ask and answer 1. T: You are Mr Li and the travel agent. Talk about travelling to Beijing by train. Mr Li: How long does it take to travel from (1) to (2) by (3) ? Travel agent: It takes about (4) hours. Mr Li: How much does it cost? Travel agent:(5) and (6) yuan. Mr Li: That’s cheap. 2. Allow the students to compare their sentences with their desk partners before checking answers as a class. 3. Check the answers. Step 5 Pair work T: You are at the travel agent’s. You are S2 and you are asking the agent for some information. S1, the agent, should try to answer the questions. S1: Good morning/afternoon. Can I help you? S2: Yes, we’d like to travel to…by…How long does it take to travel from…to…by…? S1: It takes…hours. S2: How much does it cost? S1: … yuan. S2: That’s cheap/expensive.
Step 6 Listen and say Activity 1 Listen. Tell students to listen to the recording and make sure they get the main idea. Ben and Kitty: When are we going to visit Beijing? Mr Li: We are going to visit Beijing on 16 August. Ben and Kitty: How long are we going to stay there? Mr Li: We are going to stay there for two weeks. We’re going to come back at the end of August. Ben and Kitty: How are we going to get there? Mr Li: We’re going to get there by plane. Ben and Kitty: Can we travel by train? It’s cheaper. Mr Li: The train is slower than the plane. It takes five hours to travel from Garden City to Beijing. Activity 2 Let the students practise the dialogues in groups of three. Some groups read the dialogues in front of the class. Activity 3 1. Tell the students to read the dialogue again and answer the following questions. (1) When are they going to visit Beijing? (2) When are they going to come back from Beijing? (3) How long are they going to stay there? (4) How are they going to travel to Beijing? (5) Why won’t they take the train there? 2. Ask the students to discuss their answers in groups. Let some groups read out their answers. 3. Check answers as a class. Answers: (1) On 16 August. (2) They are going to come back at the end of August. (3) They are going to stay there for two weeks. (4) They are going to travel to Beijing by plane. (5) Because the train is too slow.
Activity 4 T: Kitty is writing another email to Lily. Help her to complete the email.
1. Let the students read the email first and get the main idea. 2. Tell them to complete the email. They can read the dialogue again if necessary. 3. Invite a few students to say their answers. 4.
