    Unit 3  A day out Comic strip & Welcome to the unit

    设计说明

    首先通过询问假设你有一个假期你想去哪里游玩导入新课,然后学习一些关于世界名胜的词,学会用英语介绍国际风景名胜,由此开展对话。通过HoboEddie的对话,提出本单元所涉及的话题,使大家对本单元产生兴趣。最后通过练习来复习本课时的内容。

    教学目标

    通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握词汇:ourselves, Australia, coffee, top, president, wide, ton, come on, enjoy oneself, go past, have a great time, take care, coffee shop, take a boat trip

    2.能力目标

    (1)通过听说训练,学会讨论自己感兴趣的名胜。

    (2)通过听说训练,激发对本单元话题的兴趣,培养听说能力。

    3.情感目标

    了解世界各地的名胜古迹,培养热爱大自然、热爱生活的良好品质。

    重点难点

    重点:学习描述名胜古迹的词和短语,并能灵活运用

    难点:灵活使用生词和短语

    教学过程

    Step 1  Lead-in

    1. Show some questions

    Question 1:

    T: If you have some free time, what are you going to do?

    S: I’m going to

    Question 2:

    T: If you have a chance to travel to a foreign country, which one would you prefer?

    2. Encourage the students to say their ideas, then show them some pictures of places. Get them to say more.

    Step 2  Learn new words

     1. Present the new words

     come on,ourselves, enjoy oneself, Australia, take care, coffee, top, president

    wide, steel, ton

     2. Ask them to read the words and try to use them to describe a place.

    Step 3  Read, listen and practice

    1. Read and answer

    Amy and Simon are reading some postcards from their friends. Read the back of the postcards and answer the questions.

    Postcard 1:

    (1)Who sent the first card?

    (2)Which city did he go to?

    (3)What did he see there?

    Postcard 2:

    (4)Who sent the second postcard?

    (5)Where is the coffee shop he sat in?

    (6)What was he going to do that afternoon?

    Postcard 3:

    (7)Who sent the third postcard?

    (8)What did she see there?

    (9)What is the White House like?

    Answers: (1) Nick.  (2)Sydney.  (3)He saw the famous Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

    (4)Leo.  (5)By the River Seine.  (6)He was going to visit the Eiffel Tower.

    (7)Jane.  (8)She saw the White House.  (9)It is a beautiful building with a big garden and many trees.

    2. Deal with A on page 31. Read the back of the postcards and match them with the correct pictures. Write the correct letters in the boxes.

    Answers: 1. c  2. b  3. a

    3. Deal with B. Listen and answer the questions.

    (1) Show some questions. Ask them to listen to the tape twice and answer the questions:

    Which place of interest are Simon and Amy talking about?

    How long is the Golden Gate Bridge?

    How wide is the bridge?

    Answers:They’re talking about the Golden Gate Bridge.

    About 1.7 miles.

    It’s 90 feet wide.

    (2) Deal with the questions and answers. Read and practice in pairs.

     

    (3) Make up their own dialogues like the following:

    A: Which country do you want to visit?

    B: I want to visit Australia.

    A: Which city do you want to go?

    B: I want to go to Sydney.

    A: Why do you want to go there?

    B: Because I want to see the Harbour Bridge.

    A: How long is it?

    B: It’s about 1,149 meters.

    A: How wide is it?

    B: It’s about 49 meters wide.

    A: The bridge is made of steel, isn’t it?

    B: Yes, and it has a history of about 90 years.

    Step 4  Comic strip

    1. Ask the students to watch the video about Hobo and Eddie. Answer the question:

    What’s Eddie going to do?

    Answer: He’s going to exercise.

    2. Listen and read the dialogue in pairs.

    3. Act it out.

    4. Fill in the blanks according to the dialogue, then retell the passage.

    Eddie is going to e_______ today. He says that he will c_______ a hill. Hobo is very happy to hear that, because he thinks that Eddie n_______ to exercise to k_______ f_______. In fact, Eddie just wants to e_______ himself. The hill is very s_______. It’s not as high as a real o_______.

    Step 5  Language points

    1. Well,this hill isn’t as high as a real one!

    as high as ……一样高

    as… as 用于同级比较,中间用形容词或副词的原形,否定句中可以用not so… as,且否定句可以转换成比较级。如:

    You are as tall as your sister.你和你姐姐一样高。

    You are not so tall as your sister.你不如你姐姐高。

    =You are shorter than your sister. / Your sister is taller than you.

    (1)英语和语文一样有趣。

    English is as interesting as Chinese.

    (2)咖啡不像牛奶那么健康。

    Coffee isn’t as /so healthy as milk.

    Milk is healthier than coffee.

    2. Let’s enjoy ourselves!

    enjoy与反身代词oneself 构成固定搭配,所表示的意义与have a good/great/ wonderful time意义相近,都表示“玩得高兴,过得愉快”。 练习一下:

    Lucy and Lily enjoyed themselves (they) at the English party the day before yesterday.

    我们昨晚在尼克的生日派对上玩得很高兴。

    We enjoyed ourselves at Nick’s birthday party last night. 

    大多数人喜欢晴朗的日子,因为他们可以到户外游玩。

    Most people prefer sunny days because they can enjoy themselves outside.

    3. Yesterday I took a boat trip under the famous Harbour Bridge and went past the Sydney Opera House.

    go past 经过,past 是介词,常与go, walk, drive, run 等动词连用。如:

    He just walked past me a few minutes ago. 几分钟前他刚从我身边走过。

    He ran past the finishing line first. 他第一个跑过了终点线。

    The crowd cheer as the hero drives past.

    英雄驱车经过时, 人群发出了欢呼声。

    4. It’s 90 feet wide.

    英语中表示“长、宽、高”分别使用形容词long, wide, tall / high;所用句型是:Sth. / Sb. + be + 数字 + long/wide/tall / high. 如:

    The street is more than sixty metres wide.

    这条大街有60多米宽。

    I think that river is about 6,000 metres long.

    我认为那条河大约有6 000米长。

    5. The bridge is made of steel, isn’t it?

    be made of be made from都表示“由……制成”,主语为制成品,但前者表示制成成品后,仍可看出原材料是什么;后者表示制成的东西完全失去了原材料的外形或特征,在成品中已无法辨认。

    The kite is made of paper. 风筝是用纸做的。

    The paper is made from wood. 纸是木头做的。
