    Unit 5  Wild animals Comic strip & Welcome to the unit

    设计说明

    本课时先处理Welcome to the unit部分的内容,再处理Comic strip的内容。首先呈现大量图片,导入本单元话题——野生动物。接着在Free talk环节穿插一些生词的讲解,利用Welcome to the unit部分的图片让学生学习野生动物的名称,并能就每种动物用简单的词句进行描述。之后通过听说练习让学生两人一组进行对话,询问对方最喜爱的野生动物,使学生进一步掌握词句。最后自然过渡到Comic strip部分,导入新语境,鼓励学生有感情地分角色朗读课文,并设计符合漫画情境的面部表情和肢体动作。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握词汇:wild, free, dish, pity, die, dolphin, squirrel, zebra, giant panda, no way, have/take pity on, in fact

    2.能力目标

    (1)学习几种野生动物的英文名称 

    (2)通过听说训练,能简单描述野生动物的基本情况。

    3.情感目标

    学会用英语谈论最喜爱的野生动物,表达对野生动物的喜爱之情。

    重点难点

    重点:学习野生动物的名称,了解野生动物的基本情况。

    难点:用所学新词、短语以及固定句型等描述最喜爱的野生动物。

    教学准备

    PPT 课件;听力录音;相关图片。

    授课时数

    教学过程

    Step 1  Lead-in

    Present a picture of a giant panda and talk about something about this kind of wild animal with the students.

    Ask students some questions:

    (1) What’s this animal?

    (2) What does it eat?

    (3) Where does it live?

    Tell the students, “There are many wild animals in the world.” Teach the new word “wild”

    Step 2  Presentation

    Present pictures of three wild animals (dolphin, squirrel, zebra) and teach the new words: dolphin, squirrel, zebra by using the following conversation:

    —What can you see in the picture?

    —I can see...

    Step 3  Practice

    1. Ask students to write the correct names under the pictures in Part A. Then check the answers.

    Answers: 1 dolphin  2 squirrel  3 giant panda  4 bear  5 zebra  6 tiger

    2. Work in pairs to talk about the animals in Part A according to the model.

    —What can you see in the picture?

    —I can see...

    3. Ask students to try to describe six kinds of wild animals briefly.

    For example: The giant panda is very lovely. They are black and white. They eat bamboo. Most of them live in China.

    The dolphin...

    The squirrel...

    The bear...

    The zebra...

    The tiger...

    Step 4  Listening

    1. Ask students to listen to the tape and fill in the table.

    2. Listen to the tape again and fill in the blanks according to the dialogue.

Simon likes lions best, because he thinks they are s_____ and they can run f_____. Peter and Millie b_____ like pandas best, because they think that pandas l_____ very cute.

    Step 5  Read and make a conversation

    1. Ask students to read the dialogue following the tape and then read by themselves.

    2. Ask students to make a conversation to talk about their own favourite wild animals according to the model.

    A: What wild animals do you like best?

    B: I like... best. / My favourite wild animal...

    A: Why?

    B: Because...

    B: What about you?

    A: I like... best. / My favourite wild animal...

    B: Why?

    A: Because...

    Step 6  Presentation

    1. Listen to the tape again and complete the sentences.

    Answers:

    2. Ask students to read the Comic strip and answer the following questions.

    (1) Would Eddie like to live in the wild? Why or why not?

    (2) Will Eddie eat the wild animals? Why or why not?

    Answers:

    (1) No. Because he thinks wild animals may become dishes on the table any time.

    (2) Yes. Because he thinks he may die without them, and in fact these are not wild animals.

    3. Practice.

    Ask students to play roles to read the dialogue and then act it out.

    4. Enjoy a video and ask students to protect wild animals.

    Step 7  Language points

    1. Would you like to live in the wild, Eddie? 你想生活在野外吗,埃迪?

    wild 此处用作不可数名词,意为自然环境,野生状态in the wild意为在野外,在自然环境下

    There are many kinds of animals in the wild. 在野外有许多种类的动物。

    【拓展】wild还可用作形容词,意为野生的

    wild animals 野生动物

    2. Wild animals are free and happy. 野生动物既自由又快乐。

      free此处用作形容词,意为自由的,不受束缚的feel free to do sth.意为随意做某事

      You are free to go anywhere you wish. 你愿意去哪儿就去哪儿。

    【拓展】free用作形容词时还可表示免费的,空闲的

    I’m free today. Let’s go to the museum. They are free for students in China.

    今天我有空,咱们去博物馆吧。在中国它们对学生是免费的。

    3. Please have pity on them, Eddie. 请同情它们, 埃迪。

    have pity on...= take pity on... 意为同情……,怜悯……

    We should have/take pity on the beggars in the street.

    我们应该同情街上的乞讨者。

    4. In fact, these are not wild animals, Hobo. 实际上,这些不是野生动物,霍波。

    in fact 意为实际上,事实上

    In fact, he is an honest boy. 实际上, 他是个诚实的男孩。

    Step 6  Homework

    1. Try to say something about wild animals to your friends.

    2. Preview the Reading on page 58 and find some information about pandas.
