Lesson 4: Don’t Smoke, Please!
设计说明 首先, 通过World No Tobacco Day引入本课主题,并结合情景学习本课生词短语;听课文录音让学生了解课文内容。接着,结合设置的问题引导学生按部分细读文章,且根据整篇文章内容完成Let’s Do It!中的练习1,同时提炼出重要短语,并通过两两对话提问复述课文内容。在做Let’s Do It!中练习2之前先讲解should的用法,之后完成练习。然后,让学生以小组为单位做关于吸烟危害健康的英语海报。最后,通过设置的当堂达标的题目检测学生的课堂学习效果。 教学目标 通过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标: 1. 知识目标 掌握单词:smoke, harmful, public, law, whenever, risk, somebody 接触单词:disease, lung, harm, breathe, cigarette 短语: millions of, as a result of, take a risk, get into the habit of…, stay away from… 句型: Smoking is bad for your health. Every year, millions of people around the world die as a result of smoking. Whenever someone offers you a cigarette, you should always say no. 2. 能力目标 (1) 能够表述吸烟的危害; (2) 能用should表达如何远离香烟。 3. 情感目标 认识吸烟的危害,远离香烟。 重点难点 1. 重点:掌握本课节的单词、短语和句型。 2. 难点:能够表述吸烟的危害和用should表达如何远离香烟。 教学准备 PPT 课件;本课节用到的录音。 授课时数 1课时 教学过程 Step 1 Warming up Ask students the following questions: Do you know World No Tobacco Day? When is it? Do people in your family smoke? Do you think smoking is a bad habit? If someone smokes, what do you advise him/her to do?
Step 2 Presentation Learn about the new words and expressions of the lesson with the help of pictures and sentences.
Ask students to listen to the recording of the passage and read after it for twice. Pay attention to the pronunciation of the new words and phrases. Step 4 Reading 1. Ask students to read the first part of the passage and answer the question. Why is smoking harmful? Answers: Smoking is bad for our health. It can cause diseases of the heart and lungs. Smoking can also harm the people around you with your second-hand smoke. Smoking pollutes the environment, too. 2. Ask students to read the second part of the passage and answer the question. What should we do? Answers: Never touch cigarettes. Don’t talk about smoking. Encourage your family members to stop smoking. Eat more fruits and vegetables, do more exercise, and form good habits. 3. Ask students to read the last part of the passage and answer the question. Why should we stay away from cigarettes? Answers: Once you get into the habit of smoking, it’s not easy to give it up. 4. Ask students to read the whole passage again and fill in the chart with the information from it.
Step 5 After-reading 1. Ask students to translate the following phrases. as a result of由于;作为……的结果 take a risk冒险 get into the habit of...养成……习惯 stay away from...远离…… encourage sb. to do sth.鼓励某人做某事 against the law违反法律 advise sb. to do sth.建议某人做某事
2. Ask students to retell the passage by asking and answering the following questions in pairs. A: Why is smoking harmful? B: _________________________________ A: What should we do? B: _________________________________ 3. Ask some pairs to show it in front of the class. Step 6 Language points Learn about the usage of modal verb should. (1) 表示委婉地提出意见或建议,意为“应当,应该”。 We should go to the hospital right now. 我们应该立刻去医院。 If you have a sore throat, you should drink more water. 你如果嗓子疼,应该多喝水。 (2) 表示义务、责任,意为“应当,应该”。 As a student, you should never smoke. 作为一名学生,你永远不要抽烟。 We should study hard. 我们应该努力学习。 We should obey traffic rules. 我们应当遵守交通规则。 (3) 含有should的各种句式 肯定句:Sb. should +动词原形+其他. We should get up early tomorrow. 明天我们应该早起。 否定句:Sb. shouldn’t +动词原形+其他. We shouldn’t be late tomorrow. 明天我们不该迟到。 一般疑问句:Should sb. +动词原形+其他? Should we get up early tomorrow? 明天我们应该早起吗? Yes, we should. 是的,我们应该。 Step 7 Practice Give advice for each problem using should according to the example. Example: 1. I have a very bad toothache! You should go to see a dentist. 2. My new bicycle was stolen. You should call 110. / You should ask the police for help. 3. My bedroom is in a mess. You should tidy it up. 4. My computer is broken. I can’t work without it. You should ask somebody to fix it. 5. I was late for school this morning, and my teacher was angry with me. You should get up early and never be late again. Step 8 Project 1. Show some posters about the danger of smoking in Chinese to students. 2. Ask students to make a poster against smoking in English in a group. Tips: (1) The harm of smoking; (2) What we should do. 3.
