    设计说明

    本单元是复习单元,集中总结和练习that引导的定语从句的用法;复习巩固本模块的重点单词、短语和句型。本课从指导学生朗读Language practice中的句子入手,引入语法的集中讲解与练习。除语法专项训练外,本单元还安排了词汇和听力的训练以及拓展视野的Around the world栏目。在本课的末尾安排了实践性环节——设计一张关于某个国家的海报。所有这些环节的设置,旨在提升学生的语言运用能力。

    教学目标

    通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1. 知识目标:

    (1)复习本模块新单词、短语及句型

    2)总结巩固that引导的定语从句的用法

    2. 能力目标:

    1)能够运用that引导的定语从句

    2)能够设计一张关于某个国家的海报。

    3. 情感目标:

    培养对世界各国自然和文化的兴趣。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Review

    1. Ask students to read the new words and expressions in Module 10. Use the word and expression cards to help them.

    2. Get some students to read the conversation in Unit 1 in different roles.

    3. Get the students to read the passage in Unit 2 on their own.

    Step 2  Language practice

    1. Read the sentences in the box to the class.

    I have some photos that I took in Australia last year.

    They wear special hats that keep the flies away.

    The horse that I rode was lazy.

    The game that they like most is Australian football.

    2. Get the students to read the sentences.

    3. Encourage some of them to repeat the sentences.

    Step 3  Grammar

    that引导的定语从句

    1. 关系代词that既可以指代人也可以指代物,所以that引导的定语从句既可以修饰人,也可以修饰物。如:

    The bike that I bought last month is broken. that指代物)

    我上个月买的自行车坏了。

    The girl that wears a red coat is my sister. that指代人)

    那个穿着红色外套的女孩是我姐姐。

    2. that在从句中可以作主语或宾语,作主语时不可以省略,作宾语时可以省略。如:

    The bag that lies on the ground is hers. 充当主语

    地上的那个包是她的。

    The old man thatI visited yesterday is my teacher. 充当宾语

    我昨天拜访的那位老人是我的老师。

    3. 在先行词是事物的限定性定语从句中,thatwhich一般可以互换,但在下列情况下不可以互换,只能用that不能用which作引导词:

    1)先行词是不定代词时,关系代词通常只用that,不用which。如:

    He did everything that he could do to help us.

    他做了一切他能做的来帮助我们。

    2)先行词被序数词、形容词最高级,the onlythe verythe last等修饰时,关系代词通常只用that,不用which。如:

    This is the most beautiful city that I’ve ever seen.

    这是我见过的最漂亮的城市。

    3)先行词既有人又有物时,关系代词只用that不用which。如:

    Tom took photos of the things and people that he was interested in.

    汤姆拍摄了他感兴趣的物和人的照片。

    4)主语是以who开头的特殊疑问句时,关系代词通常只用that,不用which。如:

    Who is the person that is talking with the headmaster?

    和校长说话的那个人是谁?

    5)句中其他位置已出现which,为避免重复,不用which而用that引导限定性定语从句。如:

    Which is the car that has overtaken us?

    超过我们的是哪辆车?

    Step 4  Practice

    1. Read the passage and underline all the sentences with that.

    (1)Ask students to read the passage and find all the sentences with that.

    2Ask students to work in pairs and discuss the meaning of the sentences with that.

    3Check answers as a class.

    Answers:

    Australia has more beaches than any other countrymore than 10, 000! It has one of the most famous beaches in the world, called Bondi Beach. Bondi Beach is the most beautiful beach that I have ever seen. It is a huge, wide beach that is very popular for swimming and other water sports. It is a great place to visit and to spend some time at. It is easy to get there by bus or train from the centre of Sydney. The hotel that we stayed in was right on the beach. It was perfect!

    2. Complete the conversations. Use that.

    1Ask students to read the example conversation.

    A: Do you want to see my photos?

    B: What photos?

    A: The photos that I took in Australia.

    2Tell them to complete the conversations with their own ideas.

       1 —What surprised you most in Australia?

        — The thing ___________ most was the weather!

       2 — What is the most popular sport in Australia?

        — The sport ___________ in Australia is Australian football.

       3 — What do you call that famous Australian animal? The one __________.

        — Oh, you mean the kangaroo.

    4 — What do the ancient Aboriginal stories describe?

        — They describe the spirits ______________.

    5 — What is the food like in Australia?

        — Oh, great! It is the best food ________________.

    3Ask them to compare answers with their desk partner.

    4Check answers as a class.

    Possible answers:

    1 that surprised me

    2 that is the most popular / that most people like

    3 that can jump

    4 that created the world

    5 that I have ever had / eaten

    3. Think of an animal and write some sentences about it, starting with This is an animal that...

    Work in pairs. One reads the sentence and the other guesses what animal it is.

    Step 5  Vocabulary

    1. Put the words into the correct column.

    (1)Ask students to read the words in the box and put them into the correct column.

    (2)Check answers as a class.

    2. Complete the conversation with the expressions in the box.

    Step 6  Listening

    Listen and number the pictures.

    (1)Ask the students to look at the pictures and guess what they may hear.

    (2)Tell them to listen to the recording and put the pictures in the correct order. Play the recording twice if necessary.

    (3)Check answers in pairs and then as a class.

    Step 7  Reading

    Read the passage and checkthe true sentences.

    (1)Ask students to read the sentences, then read the passage and decide which sentences are true.

    (2)Ask them to compare answers with their partners before checking as a class.

    2 The writer’s family had hot food to eat at their picnics.  

    3 The ants were a problem in central Australia.

    4 The weather was very hot in central Australia.

    5 The writer’s mother thinks the sun is bad for the children.

    6 The writer likes flies better than ants.  

    Step 8  Around the world

    Ask them to read the passage.

    Step 9  Making a poster about a country

    1. Work in groups. Talk about what you would like to include in your poster and how to present it.

    1Choose a country you would like to make the poster about.

    2Think about the kinds of things you want to include: location, capital, famous places, famous people, customs and traditions, etc.

    3Think about how you would present your information: photos, leaflets, descriptions, maps, etc.

    2. Collect and present your information.

    1Look up information on the Internet or ask people who have visited the country if they have any material for you to use.

    2Present your information in an interesting way.

    3. Present your poster to the class.

    Step 10  Homework

    1. Finish the exercises in the students’ book.

    2. Preview the new words and expressions in Module 11.
