    Lesson 45: Be Yourself!

     

    设计说明

    首先,让学生思考自己的优点和缺点并询问是否向他人寻求过帮助,借此让学生思考本课的话题。让学生在语境中学习生词,适当呈现图片,辅助理解,关注学生的读音。播放课文部分的音频,让学生完成句子,锻炼学生边听边记关键信息的能力。让学生朗读课文,判读正误,锻炼他们理解信息并辨别信息的能力。再读一遍课文,根据问题选出答案,针对性地提炼出课文的关键内容。另外,让学生在读的过程中,将信中的问题和对应的建议一一匹配起来,理清信件的写作思路。提取课文中的重要短语,进行翻译。在深入学习对话的基础上,让学生结合思维导图复述课文,完成Lets Do It!活动2和活动3的练习。讲解课文中的重难点,巩固所学英语知识。结对活动,让学生找出同伴的优缺点,并根据具体情况向对方提出合理的建议。由此锻炼学生的表达能力。最后,通过当堂检测,检验学生对本节课的掌握情况。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握单词:stupid, smart, impossible, weak

    接触单词:average, mirror, Sue

    短语:strong/weak points

    2.能力目标

    (1)能够读懂、听懂有关优缺点及给予帮助的文章;

    (2)能够根据他人的优缺点提出自己的建议。

    3.情感目标

    认清自己的优缺点,保持和发扬优点,改掉缺点和不足,扬长避短,更加自信。

    重点难点

    1.重点掌握本课节的重点单词、短语、句型等。

    2.难点(1)能够读懂、听懂有关优缺点及给予帮助的文章;

    (2)能够根据他人的优缺点提供自己的建议。

    Step 1  Thinking about it

             What are your strong points and weak points?

             Did you ever write to a doctor or another person for help?

    Step 2  Presentation  

    1. Show some pictures to teach the new words and phrases average, mirror, stupid, smart, impossible, weak and strong/weak points.

    mirror n. 镜子

     

    2. Get the students to read the new words and phrases aloud by themselves, and then repeat them two or three times after the teacher.

    average adj. 一般的,平均的 n. 平均;一般水平

    mirror n. 镜子

    stupid adj. 愚蠢的;傻的

    smart adj. 聪敏的

    weak adj. 弱的;无气力的

    impossible adj. 不可能的

    strong points 优点;强项

    weak points 缺点;弱项

    Step 3  Listening and filling

    1. Listen to the passages and fill in the blanks.

    Step 4  Reading and writing

    1. Get the class to read the passage and write T (True) or F (False).

    Step 5  Reading and ticking

    1. Get the students to read the lesson and tick the things that are mentioned in the lesson.

    (1)What are the girl’s problems?

       She thinks she looks very common.

       She doesnt do well in English.

       Sometimes she makes stupid mistakes.

       She doesnt have any friends.

    (2)What are Sues suggestions?

       Talk to your parents or teacher.

       Smile at yourself every day.

       Make plans for your dreams.

       Go to a doctor.

       Make a list of your strong points and read it every morning.

    Step 6  Reading and matching

    Read the two letters and match A with B.

     

    Step 7  Translating

    1. Read the lesson and find the following phrases. Translate them into English.

    Step 8  Reciting

    Recite the two letters according to the mind map.

    Step 9  Listening and numbering

    1. Listen to some pieces of advice and number them in the correct order. (Lets Do It! No. 2)

    The important thing is to learn from your mistakes.

    List your dreams and make a plan.

    Think about your interests and find a new hobby.

    Look in the mirror and smile at yourself every day.

    Join a club and make more friends.

    2. Let them check their answers in groups. Ask some groups to present their answers.

    Step 10  Completing the letter

    1. Now read this letter to Sue and Sue’s response to it. Fill in the blanks with proper pronouns.

    Step 11  Language points

    1. I get average grades in all of my subjects except English, but sometimes I make stupid mistakes.除了英语,我所有的科目成绩一般,但有时我会犯愚蠢的错误。

    (1) average 可作名词,意为“平均;一般水平”,on average意为“平均水平”。也可作形容词,意为“一般的;平均的”。

    The average of 4 and 6 is 5. 46的平均数是5

    On average he works eight hours a day. 他平均一天工作八小时。

    The average age of the workers here is only 25.

    这里工人的平均年龄只有25岁。

    (2) except作介词,意为“除了……”,表示在整体中除去except后面的。       

    He gets up early every day except Sunday.

    他每天都早起,除了周日。

    【拓展】besides是介词,意为“除了……之外(还有)”,包括besides后的内容。

    What languages do you know besides English?

    除了英语你还知道什么语言?

    (3)stupid是形容词,意为“愚蠢的;傻的”。

    Thats a stupid plan.那是个愚蠢的计划。

    He can do ithe isnt stupid. 他能做到——他不笨。

    【注意】stupid用作表语时,如果主语是动词不定式,则通常用形式主语it代替,该动词不定式的逻辑主语由介词of引出。

    It was stupid of you to go there alone. 你自己去那儿,真是愚蠢。

    (4) mistake是名词,意为“错误”。常用短语:make mistakes/a mistake in(在……方面)犯错误; by mistake错误地;无意中。

    You are making a big mistake.

    你正在犯一个严重的错误。

    It’s easy to make a mistake. 犯错误很容易。

    He opened Jane’s letter by mistake.

    他误拆了简的信。

    2. I want to be like her, but I know thats impossible.我想像她一样,但我知道那是不可能的。

    impossible是形容词,意为“不可能的”。它是possible的否定形式,其副词形式为impossibly

    Nothing is impossible.一切皆有可能。

    【拓展】Its impossible to do sth.意为“做某事是不可能的”。

    It is impossible to let everyone like you.

    让所有人都喜欢你是不可能的。

    3. We all have our strong points and weak points.我们都有各自的优点和缺点。

    weak作形容词,意为“弱的,差的”。be weak in意为“在……方面比较薄弱”,weak points意为“缺点,弱项”。

    He was weak in math, but good at English.

    他数学差,但英语好。

    After knowing our weak points, we can try to change ourselves and turn them into our strong points.

    知道自己的缺点后,我们可以努力改变自己,把缺点变成优点。

    4. Don’t be too hard on yourself for making mistakes. 不要因为犯错误而对自己太苛刻了。

    be hard on 意为“对……要求严格/苛刻”。

    Dont be too hard on him. Hes only a little boy.

    别对他要求太严格。他只是一个小男孩。

    5. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes.重要的事情是从你的错误中吸取教训。

    learn from 意为“向……学习;从……中吸取教训”。learn sth. from 意为“向……学习某事;从……中学到某事”。

    We learned many things from him.

    我们从他身上学到了很多东西。

    Step 12  Extension

    T: Nobody is perfect in the world.

    Even some great people aren’t perfect.

    Every person has strong points and weak points.

    1. Let the students work in pairs. Find their partners strong points and weak points.

    e.g.

    Strong points: be good at thinking; be nice to the others; be good at learning from others

    Weak points: be careless; have no confidence              

    2. Give their partner some advice according to their strong points and weak points.

    3. Make a dialogue like this:

    A: Are you good at…?

    B: Yes, I am./ No, I am a little weak in…

    A: You can practice a lot. Practice makes perfect. I can also help you

    Step 13  Homework

    1. Review the words and expressions in Lesson 45.

    2. Choose one classmate, write a letter to him or her, and give him or her some advice.

    3. Preview the words and expressions in Lesson 46.
