学生课前读词，通过两幅图片导入新课；通过对话练习，掌握形容词比较级的基本用法；利用听读练习，让学生逐步加深对课文的理解，培养学生获取细节信息的能力；设置对短文填空的练习，让学生进一步理解和掌握课文关键信息；设置选词填空题，进一步联系比较级的用法；设置结对练习，让学生达到学以致用的目的。

Step 1　Warming up

Look at the pictures and ask the students:

Where are the buildings?

Step 2　Presentation

Ask the students to look at the pictures and talk about them.

Step 3　Listening

1. Play the recording，and ask the students to listen and complete.

2. Check the answers in pairs.

Step 4　Listening and answering

Play the recording and get the students to answer the questions.

1. Where is Shenzhen?

Step 5　Reading and completing

1. Listen to the conversation in Activity 2. And complete the passage about Shenzhen.

Step 9　Language points

1. Well，it’s on the coast near Hong Kong.

哦，它在临近香港的海边。

on the+方位词+coast of...“在……的……海岸”。

Xiamen is a city on the south coast of China.

厦门是中国南部海岸的一座城市。

2. In fact，it only became important in the 1980s.

实际上，它到了20世纪80年代才变得重要。

“in the +整十年份+s/’s”意为“在……世纪……年代”。

in the 2010s意为“在21世纪10年代”。

3. It’s getting bigger and busier.它变得越来越大，越来越繁华。

get此处是系动词，意为“变得，成为”，后接形容词或形容词比较级作表语。

The weather is getting hotter and hotter.

天气变得越来越热。

【拓展】get 的其他用法

4. Some day it will become as busy as Hong Kong，I’m sure.

我确信，有朝一日它会变得和香港一样繁华。

“as+形容词或副词的原级+as...”意为“和……一样……”，表两者之间同级比较。否定形式“not as/so+形容词或副词的原级+as... ”意为“不如……”。

Jack is as tall as me. 杰克和我一样高。

Jack isn’t as tall as me.杰克不如我高。

5. What’s the population of Shenzhen? 深圳的人口是多少？

(1)population名词，意为“（某一地区的）人口，全体居民”，作主语时谓语动词用单数。表达人口多用large或big，人口少用small。

The population of the city is very small. 这个城市的人口非常少。

(2)询问人口句型：What’s the population of+地区？

What’s the population of China?中国有多少人口？

6. Its streets are much wider and cleaner too.
它的街道也更宽阔、更干净。

much此处用作副词，意为“很，十分”，表示程度，修饰比较级。even，a lot，a little等也可修饰比较级。

Mary’s room is much bigger than mine.

玛丽的房间比我的大得多。

My bag is even heavier than yours.

我的包比你的重得多。

7. Remember to visit the Diwang Tower. 记得去参观地王大厦。

remember to do sth.记得去做某事（事情没做）。

remember doing sth.记得做过某事（事情已做）。

  Remember to close the door when you leave.

  记得走的时候关门。

Step 10　Practice

Ask the students to read the passage in groups.

Step 11　Pronunciation and speaking

1. Play the recording once without stopping.

2. Listen and notice how the speaker stresses the underlined words.

3. Play the recording again. Ask the whole class to repeat.

4. Ask some of the students to read in class.

Step 12　Comparing and speaking

1. Compare Shenzhen with your home town. Make notes in the table.

Possible answers: Shenzhen: a busy city，a new city，tall buildings

                Your home town: a small town，a quiet town，an old town

2. Work in pairs. Talk about the differences between Shenzhen and your home town. Use big，small，hot，cold，tall or new.

—Is your home town bigger than Shenzhen?

—No，it isn’t. It’s smaller than Shenzhen.
