    Module 6 Animals in danger

    Unit 2 The WWF is working hard to save them all.

    设计说明

    向全班同学展示几张大熊猫的照片,通过引起大家对大熊猫的兴趣引入新课的学习。对课文的教学采用由整体到局部的顺序,先从整体上把握短文的结构,再具体到“An animal in dangerThe panda’s homeNature parks for pandasWWF and animals in danger”四个部分的分析和学习,掌握细节内容。朗读短文,进一步学习动词不定式作宾语补足语和其他句子成分的用法。设置针对性的写作训练,提升学生的书面表达能力。

    教学目标

    通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握本单元新单词及短语researchbabysituationscientistproducesouthwestin order togovernmentsetset upnaturenature parkdevelopfeedsymbol             

    2.能力目标

    (1)理解语篇的结构和段落主旨,把握各部分的细节信息。

    (2)能正确运用动词不定式作宾语补足语和其他句子成分。

    3.情感目标

    通过学习,进一步了解当前大熊猫和其他濒危动物的生存状态,强化环境保护意识,行动起来,积极参与到人与动物和谐相处的美好环境建设中。

    Step 1 Leading in

    Show some pictures of the pandas to the class. Talk about the animal.

    T: Look at the pictures. What can you see?

    Ss: We can see some pandas.

    T: Do you like pandas?

    Ss:

    T: What do you know about pandas?

    Ss:

    Step 2 Fast reading

    Read the passage and match the headings with the paragraphs. (Activity 2 on Page 44)

    1. Ask the students to read through the four headings.

    2. Ask the students to read the passage and match the headings with the paragraphs.

    3. Check answers in groups and then ask some groups to write their answers on the blackboard.

    4. Elicit answers from the whole class. Correct the wrong answers.

    Step 3 Careful reading

    1. Read the first paragraph and complete the sentences.

      (1) Listen to the recording.

      (2) Read the paragraph carefully and catch more information.

      (3) Complete the sentences.

      (4) Check the answers from the whole class.

      Answers(从左到右,从上到下):

      wild; Zoos; die; Scientists

    2. Read the second paragraph and complete the sentences.

      (1) Listen to the recording.

      (2) Read the paragraph carefully and catch more information.

      (3) Complete the sentences.

    (4) Choose the answers from the whole class.

    3. Read the third paragraph and complete the sentences.

      (1) Listen to the recording.

    4. Read the last paragraph and complete the sentences.

      (1) Listen to the recording.

      (2) Read the paragraph carefully and catch more information.

      (3) Complete the sentences.

    (4) Check the answer from the whole class.

    6. Ask some students to read the phrases and then write them down on the notebooks.

    Step 4 Post-reading

    1. Complete the sentences. (Activity 3 on Page 45)

    (1) Read the model sentence to know what should be written to complete the sentences.

    (2) Read the first part of each sentence.

    (3) Ask the students to read the passage and underline the key information.

    (4) Ask them to complete the sentences and check answers with their partners.

    (5) Elicit answers in full sentences from the class.

    Answers:

      1 to help pandas produce more babies and help baby pandas live

      2 to protect pandas in the wild

      3 to be its symbol

      4. to save all the animals

    2. Complete the passage with the words in the box. ( Activity 4 on Page 45)

    (1) Read through the words in the box and check the meaning of them.

     

     

     

    (2) Ask the students to read the passage and think about the information that is missingand then complete it on their own.

    (3) Ask them to check their answers in groups.

    (4) Check the answers from the whole class.

    3. Ask the students to read the passage carefully.

    Step 5 Language points

    1. In order to protect pandas in the wildthe government is setting up nature parks and developing other plans. 为了保护野生大熊猫,政府正在建造自然公园,也在制订其他的计划。

    (1) in order to意为“为了”,后接动词原形,表示目的。其否定形式是in order not to

    In order to arrive home earlywe decided to take the plane.

    为了早点到家,我们决定乘飞机。

    She got up early this morning in order not to be late for the party.

    为了聚会不迟到,今天早上她起床很早。

    [拓展]

    in order that意为“为了”,后面接句子,表示目的,可与so that句型转换。

    They started early in order that they could get there on time.

    = They started early so that they could get there on time.

    他们很早就动身,为的是准时到达那里。

    (2) set up意为“开办;设立;创办;建立”,是“动词+副词”型短语,名词作宾语时,放在up前后都可以,人称代词作宾语时,必须放在up之前。

    When did your father set up the company?

    你父亲什么时候创办的这家公司?

    There are many kinds of animals living in the nature park. The government set it up 30 years ago.

    有许多种动物生活在这个自然公园里。30年前,政府建立了这个公园。

    2. The nature parks will be big and there will be more bamboo to feed the pandas. 自然公园的面积将会很大,将会有更多的竹子来喂养大熊猫。

    feed (fed) 动词,意为“喂养;饲养”。

    (1) feed sth. on sth. feed sth. to sth.表示“用……喂养……

    They feed the pigs on fresh grass.他们用新鲜的草喂养猪。

    Don’t feed food to the animals at the zoo.

    在动物园里不要给动物喂食。

    (2) feed on表示“以……为生”,多用来指动物。

    Sheep feed on grass.绵羊以草为生。

    Step 6 Writing

    1. Choose an animal in danger and answer the questions. (Activity 5 on Page 45)

    (1) Get the students to work in pairs. Make a list of animals in danger.

    (2) Ask them to read the questions and choose an animal that they like in the list.

    (3) Tell them to answer the questions about the animal they choose.

    (4) Encourage some pairs to present their conversation to class.

    2. Write a passage about an animal in danger. Use your answers in Activity 5 and the following example to help you. ( Activity 6 on Page 45)

    (1) Tell the students to read the model passage about pandas on their own.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    (2) To help the students write their own passageswrite down some useful conjunctions on the blackboard: First SecondSo

    (3) Firstask the students to write down their answers in full sentences. Then write their passages.

    (4) Encourage some students to read their passages to the class. Correct the errors.

    (5) Show another model passage to the class for them to compare with theirs.
