    设计说明

    本单元是复习单元,集中总结和练习过去进行时与whenwhile引导的时间状语从句连用的句型,复习巩固本模块的重点单词、短语和句型。本课从指导学生朗读Language practice中的句子入手,引入语法的集中讲与练。在完成语法项目后,安排的是词汇、听力和阅读的训练。另外,在本课的末尾还安排了基于故事报道的实践性环节。所有这些环节的设置,旨在提升学生的语言运用能力。

    教学目标

    通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1. 知识目标

    (1)复习巩固本模块所学生词、短语和句型;

    (2)练习巩固过去进行时与whenwhile引导的时间状语从句连用的句型。

    2. 能力目标

    (1)掌握过去进行时与whenwhile引导时间状语从句连用的句型;

    (2)写一个事故报道。

    3. 情感目标

    提升学生预防事故的能力和在事故中自救的能力,培养学生济困救险的品德。

    Step 1 Language practice

    Present the key sentences to the class. Read them aloud with the whole class.

     

     

     

     

    Step 2 Grammar summary

    Sum up the grammar together with the whole class.

    过去进行时与whenwhile引导的时间状语从句连用

    过去进行时常和when, while引导的时间状语连用,构成复合句。

    My mother was cooking when I got home.

    我母亲正在做饭,这时我到了家。

    My father was watching TV while my mother was doing cleaning.

    (那时)我父亲在看电视,我母亲在清扫卫生

    一、whenwhile的区别

    when引导的时间状语从句中,谓语动词可以是延续性动词,也可以是非延续性动词。而在while引导的时间状语从句中,谓语动词必须是延续性动词。

    We were talking when the teacher came in. 我们正在交谈,这时老师进来了。

    They arrived when/while we were having dinner.

    当我们正在吃晚饭时,他们到了。

    二、when引导的时间状语从句与主句的时态

    I was walking in the street when the accident happened.

    [总结]

    能够延续的动词用过去进行时,不能延续的动词用一般过去时。

    [总结]

    当强调两个动作过去同时进行时,主句和while从句都用过去进行时。

    四、归纳

    如果主句和从句都用了过去进行时,那么从句用while引导;如果从句是一般过去时,要用when引导;如果主句是一般过去时,从句是过去进行时,从句可用whenwhile引导

    Step 3 Practice

    1. Complete the sentences with when or while. (Activity 1 on page 68)

    (1) Ask the students to read the sentences and make sure whether the action in the clause is continuous or not in each sentence.

    (2) Tell them to complete each sentence with when or while.

    (3) Check the answers in pairs.

    Answers:

    1 while  2 when  3 when  4 while

    2. Look at what Tony did last Saturday. Complete the You column. (Activity 2 on page 68)

    (1) Ask the students to read the information in the table, so they are clear about Tonys activities.

    (2) Ask them to work in pairs to ask and answer what Tony was doing then. For example:

    S1: What was Tony doing at 10 am last Saturday?

    S2: He was playing in the park.

    (3) Ask the students check answers in pairs.

    (4)Tell them to complete the You column about themselves.

    (5) Ask them to ask and answer about their own activities in pairs.

    (6) Ask them to write some sentences about the activities, using while. For Example:

    Last Saturday while Tony was playing in the park, I was visiting my grandparents.

    3. Complete the news report with the correct form of the words in brackets. (Activity 5 on page 69)

    (1) Ask the students to read through the passage and think about how the words in brackets need to be changed.

    (2) Tell the students to complete the passage.

    (3) Check the answers with the whole class.

    Step 4 Vocabulary

    1. Complete the conversation with the correct form of the words in the box. (Activity 3 on page 68)

    (1) Ask the students to read the words in the box and make sure they understand them.

    (2)Ask the students to read the conversation and complete it.

    (3)Check the answers.

    Answers: (1)bite  (2)appeared   (3)show   (4)threw

    2. Complete the passage with the correct form of the expressions in the box. (Activity 4 on page 69)

    (1) Ask the students to read through the expressions in the box and make sure they know the meaning of them.

     

     

    (2) Ask the students to read the sentences and think about whats missing.

    (3) Tell them to complete the passage on their own and then check answers in pairs.

    (4) Check the answers.

    Answers:

    (5) Encourage some children to read the passage.

    Step 5 Listening

    Listen and complete the accident report. (Activity 6 on page 69)

    1. Ask the students to read through the passage and get the main idea of the passage.

    2. Play the recording and tell them to complete and report while they are listening.

    3. Play the recording once again for them to check the answers.

    4. Elicit answers by asking some students to read out the report.

    Answers:

    5. Play the recording again. Show the tapescript if necessary.

    Tapescript:

    News reader: And finally, a story about a lucky cat. Here’s Alice to tell us what happened.

    Alice: Yes, at about four o’clock yesterday afternoon, I was reading a book in the sitting room. I heard a strange sound from the next room. I went in to look and saw my cat, Pete. He was looking into the fish bowl and trying to get a fish from the bowl!

    News reader: And then what happened?

    Alice: The fish bowl fell on Pete! I went to pick him up because he doesn’t like water. I took him to the bathroom and dried him!

    Step 6 Reading

    1. Read the passage and check (√) the true sentences. (Activity 7 on page 70)

    (1) Ask the students to read the sentences on their own.

    (2) Tell them to read the passage and check the true sentences.

    (3) Check the answers in pairs.

    Answers:

    2 √; 5 √; 6

    2. Choose the correct answer.

    (1) Ask the students to read each question and choose the correct answer.

    (2) Check the answers in groups by asking and answering.

    Step 7 Around the world

    1. Read the passage An emergency landing and then find out the following phrases.

    2. Translate the phrases into Chinese.

    Step 8 Module task

    1. Think about a recent accident you know of. Write notes. (Activity 8 on page 71)

    (1) Tell the students to think about recent accidents they know of and choose one to write about.

    (2) Ask them to ask and answer questions in pairs.

    (3) Tell them to make notes of the answers.

    Possible answers:

    1 three o’clock this afternoon; on the motorway between London and Cambridge

    2 was driving too fast; was not watching the traffic in front of him

    3 the car in front of him slowed down to avoid a rabbit

    4 apologised to the other driver

    2. Use your notes and write sentences for your news report about the accident. (Activity 9 on page 71)

    Complete the sentences, using the notes you made in Activity 8.

    Possible answers:

    1 A terrible accident happened at three o’clock this afternoon on the motorway between London and Cambridge.

    2 James Brown was driving too fast along the road.

    3 He was not watching the traffic in front of him.

    4 The accident happened because the car in front of him slowed down to avoid a rabbit that was running across the road.

    5 After the accident, Mr Brown apologised to the other driver.

    3. Ask the students to join the sentences they wrote in Activity 9 and write their reports on their own, using when, while, so, because and then.

    One possible answer:

    A terrible accident happened at three o’clock this afternoon on the motorway between London and Cambridge. James Brown was driving too fast along the road. He was not watching the traffic in front of him because he was talking on his mobile phone. The accident happened when the car in front of him slowed down to avoid a rabbit that was running across the road. So Mr Brown’s car crashed into the back of the other car. Luckily, both the drivers were not badly hurt, but the cars were damaged. After the accident, Mr Brown apologised to the other driver. Then, the police arrived and told Mr Brown that talking on his mobile phone while driving is very dangerous.

    4. Ask each group to choose a student to read his or her report to the class.

    1. Go over what you’ve learnt in Unit 3.

    2. Preview the new words and expressions in Module 9.
