In 2002,Huang Hui, a researcher of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, went diving near Xisha. In
addition to getting an irremovable suntan(晒黑),she was left with memories of a beautiful experience with clear
water and abundant colorful corals(珊瑚).However, much of the breathtaking scenery of this reef has disappeared due to climate change and human activities. All of these factors led to the decline of the coral reef in
the near shore waters.“We started to cultivate(培育)corals near the Xisha Islands in 2010,and restored more
than 200,000 square meters of coral reefs,” Huang said.
In 2004,when Huang was attending the 10th International Coral Reef Symposium, she found herself the only
representative from the Chinese mainland. She said she felt sad but she made up her mind to strengthen communication with other countries to improve China's level and status in coral research. She visited top coral
research institutes in the US and Australia, establishing long-term cooperation with some of the world's top coral
researchers. So far, Huang has worked on coral research and protection for 22 years. Now, China is in a leading
position in terms of technology and coral planting scale.
Huang believes that people’s consciousness of coral protection matters most to the sustainable(可持续的) development of the coral reefs. “I want to call on more people to love nature and look at the ocean in awe(敬畏),”Huang said.
Partly due to her efforts,Hainan Province released a law in 2017 banning reef exploitation(开发), trading and damaging.
Huang works as a consultant for customs and frontier police on coral protection and promotes coral protection in her local schools. Huang also provides online free training for divers to teach them proper behavior in the sea to protect coral reefs.
“A group of 'folk scientists' have also been trained with the hope that more people can gain awareness of the significance of coral reef protection and know how to protect them,” said Huang.
“I am 50, and when I become 60,I hope that not only a coral island will be built but a sustainable development pattern will also be created,” said Huang. “The ideal state is that the coral island should be able to support fishermen and preserve the ecosystem,” she added.

Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil all the year or for different periods of time during the year. Wetlands vary widely because of differences in soils, climate, water and others. Wetlands can be found on every continent except Antarctica. Two types of wetlands are recognized on Earth: coastal wetlands and inland wetlands.
Coastal wetlands, as their name suggests, are found along the Atlantic, Pacific and coasts. They are closely linked to the estuaries(河口)where sea water mixes with fresh water to form a special environment. The salt water and the fresh water mix to create a rather difficult environment for most plants. Therefore, many coastal areas aren't suitable for plenty of plants. Some plants, however, have successfully adapted to this environment. Certain grasses and grass like plants that adapt to the conditions form coastal wetlands.
Inland wetlands are most common on floodplains along rivers and streams that are surrounded by dry land.
Certain types of inland wetlands are common to particular areas of the country. Many of these wetlands are
seasonal. The amount of water and the time of its presence partly affect the functions of a wetland and its role in
the environment. Wetlands that appear dry at times for significant parts of the year often provide important living
places for wildlife in these areas.
The value of a wetland to human society depends on a set of relationships between the wetland and the other
ecosystems. Wetlands play an important role in the ecosystem. Many species of birds and animals rely on wetlands for food, water and shelter. The plants and wildlife in wetlands are part of global cycles for water. Besides, scientists are beginning to realize that atmospheric maintenance(大气维护)may be another wetlands'function. Wetlands store carbon within their plant communities and soil instead of giving it out to the atmosphere
as carbon dioxide. Thus, wetlands help to improve global climate conditions.
28.How many kinds of wetlands are mentioned in the text?
A.Two.
B.Three.
C.Four.
D.Five.
29.Where do coastal wetlands generally appear?
A. Off the coasts.

A. The importance of the ecosystem.
C. The global climate conditions.

Persephone is a tour guide in Greece, but not the type people are used to. As the world's first robot tour guide, Persephone has been welcoming visitors since mid-July to the Alistrati Cave(山洞)in northern Greece.
The robot covers the first 500 fact of the part of the cave. The robot can give its part of the tour in 33 languages and interact(互动)at a basic level with visitors in three languages. It can also answer 33 questions' but only in Greek.
Nikos Cartelist scientific director for the Alistrati site, had the idea of creating the robot when he saw one on TV guiding visitors at an art gallery. The robot was built by the National Technology and Research Foundation and cost $ 139,000.
“We already have a 70% increase in visitors compared to last year since we started using the robot,” said Kartalis. “People are interested, especially the children, and people who had visited in the past are coming back to see the robot guide.”
Persephone, with a white body, black head and two eyes, moves on wheels, guiding visitors to the first three of eight stops along the walkway. She can do two more stops, but her low speed slows down the tour. Persephone's creators are considering ways to speed her up. Evdokia Karafera is one of the tour guides who partners with the robot. “It is helpful, because it speaks many languages. There’s just a little delay (耽搁)in the touring,”she said. “Most find it amazing, especially the children, and find it interesting that it speaks many languages.”
Karafera said, however, that human tour guides couldn't be completely replaced. “Robots, at some point in the future, will take over many jobs. But I believe they cannot replace humans everywhere,” she said. “The robot is funny, but can't replace the human contact with the guide and the conversation we can have on the way back.”

However, waiting for the school bus every morning often meant a real suffering because Ryder was born with
spina bifida(脊柱裂)and he has to live in a wheelchair. Hawaii is one of the rainiest places in the world. This is not an issue for other students, but for him this was a different story. He often got wet all over before the school bus arrived during the rainy days. In that case, he could only have classes with wet clothes on or called his parents to send dry clothes to school and finding a place to get changed was also a big challenge for this disabled boy.
To keep Ryder protected from the bad weather while waiting for the bus every morning, the students in Ryder's school decided to take action. They first uploaded a post on Facebook asking for an unused bus shelter but got no reply.
Not being able to find one, the students from the construction class decided to take on the challenge of building a customized (定制的)bus shelter for him and quickly put their hands to work.
As part of the high school's Career and Technical Education program, the construction class teaches its
students basic building skills. Its main goal is to provide students with tools and skills that will have real
applications in future jobs and a meaningful impact on their community. They had already performed several
