Have you ever heard of "humble"(卑微的)? "Brag"(吹嘘)? And "humblebragging"? We use "humblebrag-ging" to describe someone who seems to make something modest but is actually trying to bring attention to something they are proud of. This is the famous Chinese word "fan er sai".
For example, someone might say, "I just found out that I got accepted to Harvard and Oxford. Maybe they got mine mixed up with someone else's!" They want to tell others that they've been accepted to two good schools. But they don't want to seem arrogant. So instead, they say it in a way that seems more modest.
Although people who humblebrag think it will make them seem more peaceful, a 2021 study in a magazine showed that humblebragging has the opposite effect. "Humblebragging is not honest. That "Sadness is me" attitude does not lead to an enjoyable result," said Sezer, a teacher in a university. "Even simply bragging is better, because at least those messages are seen as more honest."
Humblebragging is common and we all do it once in a while. Jack Ma of Alibaba once said that his biggest mistake was starting the company. "I never thought this thing would change my life. I was just trying to run a small business, and it grew so big!" he said.
51. According to the passage, what may be the purpose of "humblebragging"?
A. To show their pride. B. To let us know "Sadness is me."
C. To give us an honest expression. D. To achieve an unpleasant result.
52. Which sentence shows your "humblebragging"?
A. Sorry to trouble you. B. I was just trying to run a small business, and it grew so big!
C. I thought this thing would change my life. D. I love to make money.
53. From this passage, we know ________.
A. being humble is better than humblebragging B. even being bragging is better than humblebragging
C. humblebragging is better than being modest D. we all seldom do "humblebragging"
B
Parents think over and over again while naming their children, hoping to give them names that are meaningful and show their children's personalities. But last names, on the other hand, are not something we have as much control over. Recently, Great British Mag listed some of the strangest last names in the UK. Let's look at.
Onions
When we think of onions, of course we think of their strong smell. But it is also a surname(姓氏). This last name was first popular in France and Ireland, dating back to 1279. It was commonly used by those who either sold or grew the vegetables.
Smellie
This one is pronounced the same as the word "smelly(有臭味的)". But it has a totally different meaning. In Scotland, this name is often related to people who are cheerful. Nearly 400 people in the UK nowadays have this surname.
Gotobeds
"Go to bed!" Children hear it frequently, but it sounds much like a surname still in use.
According to the online magazine, the first person who had this surname was John Gotobeds in1269. During that time, owning a bed was rare and considered as a luxury(奢侈品). People proudly "announced" the fact they could afford to have a bed by using it in their surname.
54. Last names are quite different from first names because ________.

Donna's fourth grade classroom looked like many others I had seen in the past. Yet something seemed different that day I entered it for the first time.
Donna was a school teacher only two years away from retirement. In addition she was a volunteer in a project I had organized. The training focused on ideas about language arts that would make students feel good about themselves. Her job was to attend training classes and carry out the ideas. My job was to make classroom visits and see if the ideas could be carried out.
I took a seat in the back of the room and watched. All the students were working on a task, filling a piece of paper with thoughts. "I can't kick the soccer." "I can't get Debbie to like me." Everyone was writing sentences, describing things they couldn't do. Thinking why students and the teacher were focusing on the bad things instead of writing the more positive(积极的) like "I Can", I returned to my seat and continued to watch.
"Finish the one you're on and don't start a new one," said Donna. Students were then told to put the papers into an empty box in the front. When all of the students papers were collected, she put the cover on the box and headed for the playground.
Donna asked the students out to the corner of the playground. There they began to dig. They were going to6 bury their "I Can'ts". The box of “I Can'ts" was placed into the hole and then quickly covered with dirt.
Now, years later, whenever I hear the phrase, I remember that "I Can't" is dead.
58. Why did the author go to Donna's classroom?
A. To learn how to teach students to see positive things.
B. To teach students how to feel good about themselves.
C. To check the progress of his project on language arts.
D. To serve as a volunteer to train students to be active.
59. How did the author feel about the students' writing "I Can'ts" at first?
A. Angry. B. Strange. C. Nervous. D. Discouraged.
60. The underlined word. "one" in the fourth paragraph refers to ________.
A. the sentence B. the paper C. the task D. the letter
61. What does the underlined word "bury" in Paragraph 5 mean in Chinese?
A. 销毁 B. 模仿 C. 摊开 D. 埋藏
62. What can we infer about Donna from the text?
A. She had a special way to encourage students. B. She enjoyed attending voluntary activities.
C. She was ready to help those in trouble. D. She held a positive attitude towards life.
