The 2022 Winter Olympics are now over. Did you enjoy them? The competitions have left us with many exciting memories. Some sportsmen skied down the mountain faster than cars on a motorway(高速公路). Some shot into the air and finished four full turns before landing on the snow. You might think that these sportsmen were fearless.
But is that right? Eileen Gu will probably tell you it is not. Gu is a great skier. By winning two golds and one silver for China, the 18-year-old was a successful and famous sportswoman during the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Gu has butterflies in her stomach when she tries a new trick(动作). She explains that she feels fear each time she stands on the starting line. “Will I be able to finish the new tricks? Can I create a new personal best? Will I get hurt?” You won’t know the results until you try. Gu says she often takes a deep breath and closes her eyes before she takes off. It’s her way of dealing with fear.
Sports can be dangerous. Broken necks, backs and legs or other accidents are common in winter sports. Gu and many other sportsmen know this. Like common people, they all have fears. But they love their own sport and do their best to do better every time. They choose to be brave(勇敢的).
You probably feel fear too when you are trying something new. Keep in mind that it’s normal. Learn from Eileen Gu and so many other brave people. Look your fear in the eye and tell it: You will only make me stronger.

A 14-year-old student from the UK is preparing for the next day of school: textbooks, notebooks, pens, 250 grams of flour, an egg and some cooking oil. Wait, what? It’s not a joke.
Cookery(烹饪)is a compulsory course(必修课程)for the kids aged 7—14 in the UK. Primary school students learn to make simple and healthy food excitedly. At high school, students then master a lot of different meals. They also learn some cooking skills such as baking.
The UK is famous as a country with bad food and unhealthy eating habits. These new courses are part of the country’s plan to bring healthy food back onto the table. “One in four families from the UK no longer has a table that everyone can eat around. One out of every two meals is eaten alone. Only 40 percent of us enjoy eating meals with our children.” The UK writer Joanna Blythman wrote in her book. Instead, ready meals have become the first choice for many kids in the UK, because their parents are so busy that they don’t have time to cook meals for their kids.
The Department for Education(教育部)hopes the cookery courses can help children to learn about good food and reduce childhood obesity(肥胖).
“It’s important that children can develop an interest and a better understanding of good food,” said a spokesman for the department. “The courses can help them to develop a love of healthy food and cooking them as they grow up.”

A.nervous B.excited C.sad
12.From Paragraph Three we can learn that ________.

To stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have to give up many enjoyable things such as shaking hands and hugging(拥抱). Many people feel lonely or sad without physical touch. But there is something they can safely put their arms around and hold close: a tree.
Tree hugging may sound a little strange, but it’s not a new idea. Humans have turned to Mother Nature for comfort for centuries. In Japan, people have long practiced shinrin-yoku. “Shinrin” means forest and “yoku” is the Japanese word for bath. People have a bath in the forest. But no soap or water is needed for shinrin-yoku. All it needs is listening to the sounds and taking a breath.
After COVID-19 broke out, Israel encouraged(鼓励) people to try tree hugging. Moshe recently visited the Apollonia National Park to hug a tree. “We are not hugging many people these days,” he said. “Going out to nature, taking a deep breath and hugging a tree are quite nice things to do. ”
Iceland’s Forest Service made a similar decision. I advised everyone in the country to hug a tree for at least five minutes every day. Park workers cleared paths(小道) in the woods so that visitors could keep a safe distance(距离) when they looked for their favorite trees “There are lots of trees here, and there is no need for everyone to hug the same tree. ” said a park worker.
What do you think of tree hugging? When you feel lonely next time, would you be willing to go and hug a tree?
