I realized I would not see a real person named Sophie at Sophie’s Eatery because, like most new restaurants these days, Sophie’s is a robo-restaurant.
When I walked in, a cute little manager robot appeared, looking rather like a toaster with blinking (眨) blue eyes. It escorted me to a nice table in the back. The menu monitor popped out of my table and showed me pictures of my dining choices. I tapped my choices and clicked OK, and the screen slid back down.
I watched as full plates rode the conveyer belts that moved along each aisle (过道) of tables. In just a few minutes, my dish stopped at my table, and I took it from the belt. Later, I placed my empty plate back on the conveyer belt, and it was taken away into kitchen to be cleaned.
I watched the little toaster showing customers to tables while I ate my main dish. The food was delicious, but I was starting to feel extremely angry because dealing with robots always makes me feel inhuman. Pretty soon, I wanted to talk to someone real, even if it was just a few sentences.
So when my dessert arrived, I took action. I dropped my plate on the floor with a satisfying crash. I was so happy when I saw the manager toaster’s blinking red eyes—at last, a real live person would arrive!
But instead, a crew of two robots quickly appeared. A robot broom rushed over and started to sweep the piece of the broken plate into a robot garbage can. They finished and moved back into the kitchen.
My plan to get a little reality into Sophie’s Eatery failed. I hope the robo-restaurant trend ends soon. I want to deal with people again!

Drinking your daily cup of coffee may help to lower your risk of stroke(中风)and heart disease, according to a latest research. Researchers at the Heart and Vascular Centre, Budapest, Hungary have found that drinking up to three cups of coffee a day may help protect your cardiovascular(心血管的)system.
The team studied data from nearly 500,000 people registered in the UK Biobank with an average age of 56 and no signs of heart disease at the time of recruitment. They divided them into three categories according to their coffee drinking habits: non-drinkers, up to three-cup-a-day drinkers, and more than three-cup-a-day drinkers.
Considering influencing factors such as age, sex, weight, height, physical activity, blood pressure, diabetes, socioeconomic status, and usual intake of alcohol, meat, tea, fruit and vegetables, they found that three-cup-a-day drinkers had a 12 per cent lower risk of death from all causes, a 17 per cent lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, and a 21 per cent lower risk of stroke.
"To our knowledge, this is the largest study to systematically assess the cardiovascular effects of regular coffee consumption in a population without diagnosed heart disease," said study author Dr Judit Simon.
To further investigate the effect, the researchers used data from more than 30, 000 partic-ipants in the UK Biobank who had undergone MRI(核磁共振成像)scans to determine the structure and functioning capacity of their hearts.
Dr Judit Simon said, "The imaging analysis indicated that compared with participants who did not drink coffee regularly, daily coffee consumers had healthier sized and better func-tioning hearts. Our findings suggest that coffee consumption of up to three cups per day is associated with favourable cardiovascular outcomes. While further studies are needed to explain the underlying mechanisms, the observed benefits might be partly explained by positive changes in cardiac structure and function. "
28. What is the latest research mainly about?
A. The risk of heart disease. B. The ways to avoid stroke.
C. The cups of drinking coffee. D. The benefits of drinking coffee.
29. Why does the author mention the influencing factors in paragraph 3?
A. To show the difficulty of the research.
B. To show the reliability of the findings.
C. To introduce the process of the research.
D. To introduce the limitation of the findings.
30. What do the two data analyses have in common?
A. They find coffee's positive effects on people.
B. They focus on negative changes in people's hearts.
C. They oppose coffee consumption.
D. They have been accepted widely.
31. What attitude does Dr Judit Simon have to drinking coffee?
A. Carefree. B. Skeptical. C. Favourable. D. Tolerant.

The Eastern Daily Press (EDP), a newspaper covering Nolfolk, northern parts of Suffolk and eastern Cambridge shire, is published daily in Norwich, UK. Founded in 1879 as a broadsheet called the Eastern Counties Daily Press, it changed its name to the Eastern Daily press in 1872. The paper is now owned and published by Archant, formerly known as Eastern Counties Newspapers Group.
Soon, a Google-backed project named Local Recall giving access to over 150 years of Eastern Daily Press newspaper at the click of a button or spoken question will be released. Archant is home to archive that holds tens of thousands of newspapers-with some Norwich Mercury editions dating from as far back as the middle of the 18th century. In 2017, Archant applied to the Google Digital News Innovation Fund to breathe new life into the archive. The company received £600,000 from Google and part-matched the fund to start Local Recall.
The project began in early 2018 and with help from Norwich-based artificial intelligence and chatbot company Ubisend along with specialist historical scanning companies Towns Web Archiving and Findmypast, Local Recall has since digitized an estimated 750,000 pages of EDP newspapers. In the process, more than seven million articles have been uploaded online. The digitization process, while impressive, could not always guarantee exact recreation of the text. Factors such as paper thickness, marks on the page and general wear and tear could make results confusing. It became clear there was a need for human eyes to pick out errors.
Meanwhile, a platform was provided for an army of more than 800 volunteers to help proofread and correct the stories from days gone by. Melanie Duncan, 47, from Helleson, got involved in the project after learning about it through Facebook. “It’s a window of memories into our past that we might have no knowledge of otherwise. The project is an invaluable source of accessible information. I have enjoyed every minute of doing it so far,” she said. Soon, users will be able to explore EDP archives from October 1870 right up to the latest news through a subscription service available on monthly and annual price plan.
32. What can be said about the EDP?
A. It is a regional daily newspaper. B. It has a history of more than 200 years.
C. It belongs to Archant and Findmypast. D. It is more popular in Suffolk and Norfolk.
33. What was the challenge in the digitization process?
A. The tight schedule of the project. B. The poor quality of the old paper.
C. A shortage of funds. D. Lack of volunteers.
34. What are expressed in Melanie Duncan’s words?
A. Doubt. B. Emptiness. C. Appreciation. D. Disappointment
35. What does the author mainly tell us in the text?
A. It is convenient to renew a subscription on the Internet.
B. Many archived newspaper are now available online.
C. Archant tries to cooperate with TownsWeb Archiving.
D. Local Recall helps people reconnect with their history

Anger is a basic human emotion that is experienced by all people. Usually triggered (触发) by an emotional hurt, anger is usually experienced as an unpleasant feeling that occurs when we think we have been injured, mistreated, opposed in our long-held views. 36
The experience of anger varies widely: how often anger occurs and how long it lasts are different for each person. People also vary in how easily they get angry, as well as how comfortable they are with feeling angry. 37 Some people are very aware of their anger, while others fail to recognize anger when it occurs. Regardless of how often we actually experience anger, it is a common and unavoidable emotion.
38 When well managed, anger or annoyance has very few harmful health or interpersonal consequences (结果). At its roots, anger is a signal to you that something in your environment isn’t right. It catches your attention and encourages you to take action to correct that wrong thing. How you end up dealing with the anger signal has very important consequences for your overall health, however. When you express anger, your actions trigger others to become angry too. 39 Violence can follow. You may develop a reputation (名声) that no one wants to be around you.
Out of control, anger distances friends, co-workers and family members. It also has a clear relationship with health problems and an early death. 40

B. Anger can be a positive emotion.
C. Anger can be beneficial or harmful.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was the first week of Mia's middle school. The bell's ringing brought her out of her daydreaming. She nervously gathered her books, preparing to reach another classroom for the next new class.
Mia followed the other kids and rushed into the hallway. Others walked in groups, chatted, and laughed, using the break to socialize. Mia, instead, walked alone along the wall of the hallway, with her head down. She was a shy girl, afraid to speak in front of other kids, and didn't think others would like her.
Mia finally sat in Mr. Johnson's Language Arts class nervously. "Welcome to Language Arts,” said Mr. Johnson. He told jokes as he talked about English. Mia forgot to daydream and laughed along with the rest of the class. “We'll have some fun with language," he said. "Just wait and see.”
Fun was far beyond what Mia desired. She just wanted to be like other kids—running with friends in the hallway, laughing and joking between classes. Reminded of her pimply (长粉刺的)face, she felt hopeless and disappointed.
“Take out a piece of paper,” the teacher continued, when pointing at words on the blackboard. “Write for the next thirty minutes on this topic.” Mia began writing crazily as idea after idea fought for recognition in her head. The final result was a short story about a beautiful beach house. As she wrote, she could smell the salty air, hear the crashing waves and feel the pull of the sand beneath her feet. For just a moment, she forgot where she was. She was lost in the story.
“OK, pass your papers forward," said the teacher. “Let's see what we have.” For the rest of the class time, the teacher read each individual work aloud. Mia originally thought it would be awkward. However, she was gradually attracted by the excitement in the teacher's voice. "He's actually enjoying this," she thought. When the class would be soon over, there were still fifteen students' papers not read, including Mia's paper. Then, Mr. Johnson announced his decision, asking these students to read their work themselves in front of the class next class.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
