I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting.
I took a trip with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.
When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in the sightseeing (观光) that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. The next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o'clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.
Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing!” Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the morning darkness is also one memory I can't forget forever.
Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us as it needs patience and strong-willed determination (决心) , but what about the result after that? It might turn out to be pleasing and unbelievable. So, it is really worth waiting for the best.
24. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The author's friends and the author took a trip to China.
B. Hawaii is a good place to enjoy the sunrise.
C. Sometimes, it is worth waiting for the best.
D. The author enjoyed the worst sunrise in his life.
25. When did they see the first light of the sunrise?
A. About 3 o'clock. B. About 4 o'clock. C. About 5 o'clock. D. About 6 o'clock.
26. What's the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph 2?
A. Total. B. Cold. C. Terrible. D. Interesting.
27. How did the author feel when waiting for the sunrise?
A. Excited all the time. B. Afraid all the time.
C. Firstly excited then afraid. D. Firstly excited then impatient.

October 15th is a Global Handwashing Day. Activities are planned in more than 20 countries to get millions of people in the developing world to wash their hands with soap. For example, donors will give 150,000 bars of soap to schools in Ethiopia.
Experts say people around the world wash their hands, but very few use soap at so-called important moments. These include after using the toilet, after cleaning a baby and before touching food.
Global Handwashing Day is the idea of the Public Private Partnership for Handwashing with Soap. Partners include the United Nations Children’s Fund, American government agencies, the World Bank and soap makers Unlever and Producer & Gamble. The organizers say all soap is equally effective at removing disease-causing germs (细菌).They say the correct way to wash is to wet your hands with a small amount of water and cover them with soap. Rub it into all areas, including under the fingernails. Rub for at least twenty seconds. Then rinse well under running water. Finally, dry your hands with a clean cloth or wave them in the air.
The partnership for Handwashing says soap is important because it increases the time that people spend in washing hands. Soap also helps to break up the dirt that holds most of the germs. And it usually leaves a pleasant smell. The Partnership for Handwashing also says washing with soap before eating or after using the toilet could save more lives than any vaccine (疫苗) or medicine. Handwashing could also prevent the spread of other disease. When people get germs on their hands, they can infect themselves by touching their eyes, noses or mouths. Then they can infect others.

English is full of funny expressions that don’t always make sense. Idioms are phrases and
sentences that do not mean exactly what they say. Even if you know the meaning of each word, you may not understand the idiom because you don’t understand the culture behind it. Here are some English idioms based on animals.
When children jump around and act silly, their parents may tell them to stop “monkeying around”.
To “monkey around” means to do things that are not useful or serious, or to simply waste time.
Many American families have and love pet dogs. But for some unknown reason, Americans use “dog” in a phrase that means to feel unwell. If you are “as sick as a dog”, you’re really, really sick.
Sometimes you may also hear cats mentioned in conversations, “I told you to keep that secret, but you have just ‘let the cat out of the bag’!” You probably guessed it—that idiom means to reveal a secret or tell facts that were previously unknown.
Dogs and cats don’t always get along, but they appear side by side in a commonly used idiom.
When it rains heavily, people might say it’s “raining cats and dogs”.
高一英语试题 共7页 第4页
Heavy rain often ruins people’s plans for outdoor activities. But on a lovely day, you can have a
picnic. If a swarm (一群) of tiny bugs love your food and start to hover (盘旋) around you, it would be
really annoying. That experience perfectly explains why people often tell someone who keeps bothering them to “stop bugging me”.
Idioms are very common in both spoken and written English. If you want to have a better understanding of English, you have to learn idioms.
32. According to Paragraph 1, idioms are _______.
A. expressions which are based on animals B. expressions with rich cultural background
C. expressions that always make sense D. expressions which are easy to understand
33. “Monkeying around” can be used to describe children _______.
A. jumping around and wasting time B. doing something useful and serious
C. playing with monkeys with their parents D. spending time playing with their family pets
34. What can be learned from the text?
A. Dogs and cats always get along nicely.
B. Bugs can be used to show your annoyance.
C. Americans believe cats can give away secrets.
D. Americans use the idiom “as sick as a dog” to describe a healthy man.
35. How does the text mainly develop?
A. By sharing experiences. B. By making comparisons.
C. By giving examples. D. By listing figures.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,共 12.5 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能

Exam Anxiety
第三部分 完形填空(共 15 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分)
Has this ever happened to you? You’ve been studying hard for your midterm, but when you walk into your exam, your mind goes blank, your heart races fast, you get sweaty palms and find it hard to
breathe. 36
Everyone feels anxious during exams. Usually, it results from a fear of failure, lack of adequate preparation time and bad experiences taking tests in the past. This is normal and often helps you work harder, think faster and generally improve your performance. 37 You may also feel that other people are managing the exam better than you. This can cause you to feel that your mind has “gone blank” on information you know you have revised.
38 Some choose to ignore the problem, while others don’t review because they think they will do
badly anyway and even miss exams due to the anxiety. It can also be really easy to think that if you don’t try and then you fail, you won’t feel as bad as if you fail after trying really hard.
So what can you do to fight against the negative mindset and stay calm before and during your test?
39 Yes, this seems obvious, but it’s worth repeating. If you feel confident that you’ve prepared
thoroughly, you’ll feel more confident walking into the test. The second tip is simple: just start. The blank page can maximize your anxiety. 40 You can always go back and change things later if
needed, but a few quick answers can get the ball rolling. Besides, allocating (分配) your time is equally important. Look through the whole test before getting started. Mentally allocate how much time you’ll spend on each section. If there’s time to recheck, even better.
A. After you get the paper, dive right in by getting some questions done to build up your confidence.
B. However, if you are overly anxious about the result, you may be unable to focus on your work.
C. Realizing time is almost up and that there’s still a lot of blank space will make you desperate.
