At the age of 17 years 64 days, Mack Rutherford, a British boy, has become the youngest person to fly around the world alone! Mack's journey around the world lasted five months and he flew across 52 countries in total. His record-breaking flight began in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, on 23 March, 2022. He was 16 years old when he took off and celebrated his 17th birthday by himself in his plane.
Mack faced many challenges during his adventure. Because of his small-sized aircraft, he had to land whenever the weather got too rough. However, at some points he literally(确实地) couldn't land, such as when flying non-stop for 10 hours over an ocean. At other points, he faced extremely hot weather, such as in Dubai. In Sudan, a country in Africa, Mack also faced sandstorms which made it hard for him to see where he was going. Mack battled strong winds and pouring rain during his flight, but he never stopped smiling, joking and updating his flowers on his social media account along the way, and managed to expertly pilot his plane to safety.
And if Mack's surname "Rutherford" sounds familiar, it's because his elder sister Zara also flew around the world earlier this year, and still holds the female version of the record! The Rutherford siblings (兄弟姐妹) were inspired by their parents to become pilots. "I have known for certain I wanted to fly since I was eleven," Mack said, "My dad Sam is a professional ferry pilot, and my mum Beatrice is a recreational privatepilot."
Mack hopes to inspire young people to begin working towards their own goals, "No matter what background you have, I believe it is never too early to work towards your dreams and you shouldn't limit yourself by others' expectations." With both feet firmly back on the ground now, it's time for Mack to turn
his attention towards catching up on his schoolwork!

It's time to put down the phone and look away from Instagram, an app that is used to share photos. Researchers found that people who look at pictures of food are less likely to enjoy the next meal they eat.
Ryan Elder and Jeff Larson of Brigham Young University asked 232 people to look at photos of food and rate them. The researchers divided the participants into two groups--one group looked at 60 photos of desserts, while the other examined 60 photos of salty foods. Participants(参加者) ranked each photo based on how attractive the food looked. Afterwards both groups enjoyed a snack of salted peanuts. The group that
looked at pictures of salty foods liked the peanuts less than the group who looked at desserts, even though no one saw photos of peanuts.
"If you want to enjoy your meal, avoid looking at too many pictures of food," Larson said. "Even I felt a little sick to my stomach during the study after looking at all the sweet pictures we had."
The researchers believe that food doesn't taste as good after viewing all those photos because looking at many photos makes people feel as if they have already experienced the sensation (感觉) of eating. Whatever someone eats after looking at photos doesn't seem as good as what she saw.
"In a way, you're becoming tired of that taste without even eating the food," said Elder. "It's sensory boredom-you've kind of moved on. You don't want that taste experience anymore."
But there is some good news: People need to look at a lot of food photos to experience sensory boredom. So if you want to enjoy your next meal, play it safe and stay away from your foodie friend's photo albums
28. What did the researchers do in the experiment?
A. They showed peanut pictures to participants.
B. They chose 232 participants who enjoy eating.
C. They reminded participants to avoid sweet food.
D. They asked participants to eat some salted peanuts.
29. What happened to the participants in the salty group?
A. They were afraid of rating food pictures.
B. They found salted peanuts less enjoyable
C. They enjoyed their meals a lot more.
D. They compared their food with others'.
30. Which of the following shows "sensory boredom'"?
A. You lose your sense of taste when you feel extremely tired.
B. You are bored with your meal after taking pictures of food.
C. You find food less delicious after seeing many food pictures.
D. You eat more than before when the food tastes delicious.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. How we can stay away from Instagram.
B. What causes people to enjoy salty foods.
C. Why Instagram is reducing your appetite.
D. Which food tastes less delicious.
D
Children may not be putting coins in piggy banks for much longer. With the move towards a cashless society, pocket money is going digital.
To reflect "the change", many mobile budgeting (预算) apps for children have appeared worldwide, such as GoHenry, Osper and Gimi. These apps offer a simple money management service to children, often for a monthly fee paid by the parents. Parents can add money to children's accounts, set limits and monitor transactions (交易). Children can choose to save their money or spend it using a prepaid card.
These apps aim to teach young children financial concepts(概念), such as budgeting, interest rates and income. For example, the Swedish app Gimi--1.2 million users globally- has virtual savings jars where children can deposit money. Parents can pay children interest as they save. There is also a prepaid card that is currently available in Sweden only, but is expected to be launched elsewhere in Europe.
Philip Haglund, CEO of Gimi, believes the app can teach children responsible spending habits. " You don't become better at money management just because you have a degree in economics. It's more about the attitude and the relationship you have with parents' money when you're 6 to 12 years old," he says.
But Catherine Winter, Managing Director of Financial Capability at The London Institute of Banking &Finance, warns people that while digital tools can help, there needs to be a more organized approach to financial education. The area should "have regular, designed classroom time and ideally should be taught as an independent subject", she says. "Children would then have the right understanding to get the most out of
both the apps and their money."
32. What do we know about Gimi?
A. It provides a prepaid card for free.
B. It can teach children concepts of money.
C. It pays children interest as they save.
D. It can be used only in Sweden now.
33. What does the underlined word "launched" in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. recommended
B.contributed
C.conquered
D.introduced
34. What do Catherine Winter's words mean?
A. Digital tools can help a lot with finance.
B. Money management requires financial ability.
C. A regular classroom-based financial education is needed.
D. Children can get the most out of their money with the apps.
35. What's the text mainly about?
A. The rise of the digital piggy bank.
B. The future of a cashless society.
C. The importance of financial education.
D. The popularity of money management.
