My Favorite Workout
It seems to me that almost everyone has his or her favorite form of exercise, and I'm no exception. My favorite workout is definitely badminton, which is, in my opinion, also the most suitable sport for me as a senior high for the following reasons.
Firstly, with the shuttle cock always flying high overhead, while playing the sport, I have to hold my head high all the time, which undoubtedly does good to a person who bends over the desk most time and thus might be in the danger of developing some problems with the neck. Secondly, badminton, unlike other working out forms, never requires much in playing conditions—with two light rackets, one little shuttle, and a nice partner, I can just enjoy the game to my heart's content almost at any place even during a short break between classes. Moreover, I don't think it necessary to describe to anyone who has ever played it how much delight badminton can bring us.
All in all, it is badminton that enriches my life on campus as well as keeping me physically and mentally fit despite stressful schoolwork.

M: May I speak to Mary, please?
W: She’s not here right now. ①This is her sister speaking. Can I take a message?
M: Could you ask her to call Max Peterson at 465-878-4931. . .
W: Hold on one second, Mr Peterson. Let me just get a pen.
Text 2
M: Did you have a good time climbing the mountain at the weekend?
W: Well, I didn’t climb the mountain. ②My friend has just bought a new sports car, so we went out in that. It was just like the one in the advertisement on TV.
Text 3
M: Mum, have you seen my schoolbag?
W: It’s hanging up here, with the coats. I moved it because it was on the kitchen table. ③Tom, remember to leave it in the living room when you come home from school. Then it won’t be in my way.
Text 4
M: I’d like to try some Chinese food today.
W: The Chinese restaurant is on the second floor.
M: What are the hours at the restaurant?
W: Breakfast 7: 00 to 9: 00; ④lunch 11: 30 to 2: 00; dinner 6: 30 to 9: 30.

W: Rod, I hear you’ll be leaving at the end of this month. Is it true?
M: Yeah. ⑤I’ve been offered a much better position with another firm. I’d be a fool to turn it down.
Text 6
M: Have you got the list of who’s coming to the party?
W: Yes, I do. And I’ve told them to keep the date a secret. John hates that kind of thing. Do you remember when he found out that we’d bought him a birthday cake last year, and that surprise Christmas party—he was angry. But this is different. ⑥Getting married is special and we’ve known him and Anna for years.
M: Everyone’s looking forward to it. ⑦I’ll pick you up from the office and we’ll go there together, shall we?
W: ⑦That’ ll be fine. Thanks.
Text 7

M: ⑧Uh, well, um, a leader is someone who. . . leads, I guess. It’s someone who, uh, sets a good example, uh. . . to others.
W: OK. What kinds of leadership qualities do you think this position requires?
M: ⑧Hmm, I would have to say that. . . uh, this position, uh. . . well, someone who is strong and can think quickly and. . .
W: Do you think you are qualified, Mr Davidson?
M: Oh, yeah, I’m, like, totally qualified! I would do a great job, for sure, as long as I get paid enough. Can I, uh, ask one question?
W: Go ahead, Mr Davidson.
M: ⑨Where is the bathroom? I must have had too much water today!
W: (Sigh)It’s right down the hall. Go ahead and see yourself out afterwards. We will let you know.
Text 8
M: Hi, Melissa! How are you doing?
W: I’m so stressed! I don’t know what to major in!
M: Don’t worry. You have plenty of time to decide.
W: Actually, I don’t. If I want to get a scholarship to help me pay for tuition, then I need to apply by Monday.
M: Oh, I see. Well, let me see if I can help you. What’s your favorite subject?
W: I like English, math, art, and music.
M: OK. Which one do you like most?
W: I guess I’d have to say English. I usually do pretty well in English classes, too.
M: ⑩Which subject do you get your highest grades in?
W: Actually, ⑩that is math.
M: OK, well. What kind of job do you want to get when you graduate?
W: I don’t know. ⑪All I know is that I want to make lots of money.
M: Alright. So, which is more important to you, is it to make money or to enjoy your work?
W: In a perfect world, I would enjoy my work, I mean, not have to do much, and make lots of money.
M: OK. Stop dreaming. Since you sound a bit unsure,⑫I’d suggest taking math and English classes in your first semester to see which you enjoy more. You can always change your mind.
W: That’s a good idea.
Text 9
M: It’ll take us about thirty minutes to get to the beach. Would you like a cigarette?
W: No. Thanks. ⑬ I’ve decided to give up smoking.
M: Really? Why?
W: Well, it’s getting so expensive. And now I’m jogging; when I run I can hardly breathe.
M: I see. You mean you don’t enjoy smoking any more?
W: That’s right. ⑭We’ve just been out for four hours, but you have smoked two packs, haven’t you? You should give it up, too. It’s bad for your health.
M: Stop talking like my mother. That’s what she keeps saying.
W: But it’s true. It’s a bad habit. I can’t think why I ever started. Anyway, it’s obviously got you in its bag!
M: What do you mean? What are you talking about?
W: ⑮I mean you’re such a heavy smoker and you couldn’t give it up!
M: Who? Me? Couldn’t give up smoking? Nonsense! Of course I could! I know I could!
W: How do you know?
M:⑯Because I’ve already proved it. Smoking is the easiest thing in the world to give up. I’ve done it hundreds of times!
Text 10
My parents run a small restaurant. The restaurant was open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. ⑰And my first job when I was six years old was shining shoes for customers. My duties increased as I grew older. At age ten I was cleaning tables and washing plates. My father made it clear that I had to meet certain standards
⑱I had to be on time, hard-working and polite to the customers. I was never paid for any work I did. ⑲One day I made a mistake of telling dad I thought he should give me 10 pounds a week. He said, “OK, then how about you paying me for the three meals a day when you eat here and for the times you bring in your friends for free drinks. ”⑳He figured I owed him about 40 pounds a week. This taught me quite a lot.
