Over the next 20 years,we are going to send more and better robots to Mars. Those robots will send back better pictures, maps, samples, and weather reports. There is a limit to what robots can tell us,though,so eventually we will have to send people to study the planet. Before people can visit Mars,we need to invent a spaceship that can take us there.Mars is very far away.Depending on where Mars and Earth are in their orbits (轨道) around the sun,it could take between six months to a year to get there.
The moon is much closer, and we were there,25 years ago.Over the next 10 years,we are going to work on building a new spacecraft that can go to the moon.Using this craft,we will practise the skills we need to go to Mars.
Once we get to the moon,we are going to build a station so that people can live and work on the moon for months at a time. This is important so that we have a place to start from when we want to visit Mars, but it is also important because it gives us practice with living away from Earth.
By the time you are old enough to be an astronaut,we will have people spending months on the moon.By the time you are old enough to be a commander of a space mission we will be taking trips to Mars.By the time your kids are old enough to be astronauts,we may have people living on Mars.Wouldn’t it be cool to get a postcard from someone who was building a house on Mars?Wouldn’t it be cooler if it was you who sent the postcard?

A.people can learn to adapt to living on other planets
B.people can practise planting crops in it
C.the new spacecraft can only land in it
D.astronauts can practise skills they need to go to Mars
7.The author of the passage .

Terry Evanshen was one of Canadian football’s greatest receivers. He played every down (进攻) as if it was his last.Though he had made great achievements,Terry’s memories of his playing days have been completely lost.
It was in the summer of 1988 after he retired from playing that his career in sales was taking off.One day in July,Terry,on his way home from work, had a terrible car accident. He was knocked unconscious, and within minutes he was rushed to the nearby hospital.
Three weeks later,he woke up.However,it became obvious that Terry’s injuries were far more serious than whatever damage had been done to his body.A lifetime of memories had been completely wiped clean. He had been all but reduced to the level of a baby;everything from his ability to talk and walk to his understanding of what it meant to be a husband and a father was all gone.
At age 44,Terry Evanshen would be starting all over again.Luckily he had the support of his family, helped by small victories and a renewed bond between him and his three daughters like when they taught him how to play football again.
In 1992,his recovery really began to pick up steam. It has taken years to rebuild his shattered (破碎的) life, but today, more than 20 years since his playing days,Terry is a popular public speaker. He tells his story of perseverance (坚持不懈) and courage.“Never forget,we’re all in this game of life together. We will get to the finishing line, one day at a time, one moment at a time, but celebrate the journey.Seize today, because yesterday is gone and is never coming back.” As the subject of the most watched Canadian movie of 2005,The Man Who Lost Himself,Evanshen says his family has been his most important treasure. He refuses to be a victim, saying he is a survivor.

The situation of the world’s plants is not good. One fifth of the kinds of plants are in danger of disappearing, according to a report.
“Plants are very vital to human beings,”said Kathy Willis, who led the new report.“Plants provide us with everything—food, fuel, medicine, and they are very important for our climate controlling.Without plants we would not be here.”
The good news is that deforestation rates(森林砍伐率) around the world have dropped largely since the 1950s.However,this report on the health of plants around the world shows that there is much more to be done.
The report predicts that there are now 390,900 kinds of plants. And about 21 percent of those plants are in danger of disappearing.“The good side is that we’re still discovering lots of new plants, about 2,000 each year,” said Dr Willis.“The bad side is that we’ve seen a huge change in land cover, mainly caused by cultural activity, with a little bit of climate change in there as well.”
Human activity has a great effect on the danger of plants disappearing. As humans cut down forests to make room for agriculture(农业),and towns and cities, biodiversity(生物多样性) is lost. This could not only affect our own food supply directly, but also it could affect the food web.
12.What does the underlined word “vital” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A.Useless. B.Friendly.
    C.Equal. D.Important.
13.Which of the following does Dr Willis agree with?

Deep inside I knew where the dream came from.It was about some unfinished business in my life.As a kid,I loved everything about school.I loved books, teachers, tests and homework. Most of all I longed to someday march down the aisle (通道) to receive my diploma. That seemed more appealing even than getting married.
But at 15,I had to drop out because my parents couldn’t afford tuition (学费).My hope of getting a diploma was dead,or so I thought.Pretty soon,I married and had three children, and I thought,“There goes my diploma.”
Even so,I wanted my children to be educated. But Linda, our youngest child, had juvenile arthritis (幼年型关节炎) in her hands and knees, which made it impossible for her to function in a normal classroom.I felt really sorry for her and I didn’t want her to live her life with regret.I didn’t give up hope of her being back to school in some way.
One day,I saw an ad in the newspaper for evening courses.“That’s the answer,” I said to myself.Linda always feels better in the evening,so I’ll just sign her up for night school.
Linda was busy filling out enrollment (入学) forms when the secretary said,“Mrs Schantz, why don’t you come back to school?”
I laughed,“There’s no way!I’m 55!” But he persisted, and before I knew what I had done,I was enrolled for classes in English and crafts.“This is only an experiment,” I warned him,but he just smiled. So,I told myself to try for just a semester and to see if it would work.Anyway,my dream was still there in my heart.

    Dear Chris,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re suffering from online game addiction.I completely understand how you feel and I’m writing to help you with the problem.
Actually,long-time exposure to online games affects not only your academic performance but also your health.I’d like to offer you some suggestions.First of all, start some other hobbies, such as reading and working out regularly, which will take your mind off the game and help you resist the temptation.Besides,it is also a necessity to have a heart-to-heart conversation with your parents.
I hope these ideas can help you get rid of your addiction as soon as possible.
    Best wishes!
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    第二节
It was exciting to go to school again but it was no game.Sitting in a classroom full of kids was awkward, even if most of them were respectful and encouraging.During the day,I was still a busy married woman having loads of housework to do.In the evening,I was a hardworking student working on my courses. To my surprise, both Linda and I did very well in night school.I went back again the next semester, and my grades steadily improved.
Linda and I saw each other through the time. When I was down,Linda encouraged me.“Mom,you can’t quit now!” And when she was down,I encouraged her.I have to say it was a time which was really hard on both of us.But neither of us gave up.At last,I got my diploma. To my surprise, almost all of my classmates voted for me to be class speaker, and I got a $3,000 college scholarship. The unfinished business in my dreams was eventually finished.
