Dangerous sea creatures, big waves, and air pollution are just some of the many things you need to take caution to when visiting the world’s deadliest beaches.
    Cape Tribulaton,Australia
Cape Tribulaton is said to be unsafe due to its huge amount of dangerous animals. There are tons of jellyfish and it is not safe to swim near the mouths of the rivers because of crocodile warnings.Poisonous snakes and cassowaries have also been found.According to The Cairns Post,a 46-year-old woman is believed to have been taken by a crocodile while swimming at Thornton beach,a beach in Cape Tribulaton.
    Gansbaai,South Africa
Also called “Shark Alley”,this beach is known as the world of the great white sharks. It is so filled with sharks that they have actually created shark tours for tourists. The locals claim that visitors have a 99 percent chance of seeing a great white between April to September. In 2011 a man going diving was attacked by two sharks. His body never returned to the surface.
    Nazare,Portugal
Also known as “Portugal’s Monster”,Nazare is a wonderful vacation destination with some of the biggest and deadliest waves ever surfed.“In Nazare,” a Hawaiian surfer told The Times,“the ocean is known as a place of death, not of riding waves.” Nazare’s waves are created much larger due to the Nazare Canyon. They are so dangerous that big-wave surfer Maya Gabeira was nearly killed during a wipeout in 2013.
    Snake Island,Brazil
Snake Island, also known as Ilha de Queimada Grande,is home to the “world’s deadliest snake”—the golden lancehead viper. Its poison is said to easily melt human flesh.Access to this island has been banned due to people being killed in the past.

Australia’s bush fires are threatening the country’s unique wildlife —from koalas to native birds to bees —and researchers fear that some species are being pushed to the brink of extinction. The fires have killed at least 26 people, burned thousands of homes and could shave as much as 0.4% of economic growth, according to some experts.
More than 13,000 head of livestock have been killed by the fires in New South Wales state, where more than 20,000 square miles of land has been burned. The fires threaten to rage on into February—summer-time in Australia—or longer.
Scientists say at least six species are in danger.“There’s great concern that these fires may have pushed species closer to extinction or potentially over,” said Deakin University wildlife ecologist Euan Ritchie.“We won’t know until we get into the areas,” he said.
Some scientists are concerned about a metallic-green bee that lives exclusively in areas that have been ravaged by fire, along Australia’s east coast and on Kangaroo Island in the south.Researchers suspect the green carpenter bee has been wiped out on Kangaroo Island.
“The species is likely to be in terrible conditions,as all of its habitat has now either burnt or is threatened by fire,” said Katja Hogendoorn,a bee expert at the University of Adelaide, who has been working for half a decade to preserve the population of green carpenter bees on Kangaroo Island.
8.What can we learn from paragraph 1?

With heavy rain and strong winds,Cyclone(飓风) Amphan hit the coast of India and Bangladesh on a Wednesday afternoon, destroying homes and other buildings, after forcing millions to leave home.
The storm broke out earlier in the week in the Bay of Bengal, the first “super cyclone” to break there since 1999.Though the storm wasn’t as strong as it had been when it landed,Cyclone Amphan still arrived with a force the same as a Category 3 storm(3级风暴).
With wind speed of 105 miles an hour,Amphan went through villages along the coast. Most people on the coast live in very simple houses. The cyclone destroyed many of these houses, blowing the roofs off and washing the walls away.Amphan also blew down trees and damaged electricity, telephone and Internet lines in many places along its path. The cyclone also caused huge and sudden rises in the sea level, known as “storm surges”.These surges were as high as 16 feet and pushed seawater in,ruining houses and farms along the way.
Although the cyclone had terrible power,it might not have been as deadly as people first feared. That’s mainly because governments took action before the cyclone hit.
The governments in both India and Bangladesh were using schools as shelters.Several of the shelters were used before for patients with COVID-19.More shelters were needed than usual, because the governments were trying to fill the shelters only half full to allow enough space between people.
Because of the disease, many people didn’t want to depart from their homes. This was especially true in India.Part of the reason was fear of catching the disease, but it was also because many people had lost so much during the country’s lockdown(封锁).
12.What do we know about Cyclone Amphan?
    A.It followed a Category 3 storm.
B.It slowed down when it landed.
    C.It wasn’t as strong as a Category 3 storm.
D.It was the strongest ever in the Bay of Bengal.
13.What is the third paragraph mainly about?
    A.The causes of Cyclone Amphan.
    B.The places Cyclone Amphan hit.
C.The damage caused by Cyclone Amphan.
D.The influence of Cyclone Amphan on the sea.
14.What did the governments do to deal with Cyclone Amphan?
A.They paid special attention to patients.
B.They advised people to keep enough space.
C.They built many new shelters before it hit.
D.They moved many people to safety before it hit.
15.Which can replace the underlined part “depart from” in the last paragraph?
    A.Leave. B.Share.
    C.Sell. D.Build.

In 2010,a huge earthquake hit Haiti, causing the deaths of over a hundred thousand people and millions of dollars’ worth of damage. 16 On this occasion, funds were raised with amazing speed—within a week of the quake, the American Red Cross had raised $22 million. The reason?People were donating via their mobile phones.
17 Gone are the days when people donated door by door.In today’s world of computers, smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, charities can now reach more people than ever before.
Social media in particular has had a great impact on charity. 18 This enables charities to raise money extremely quickly,as in Haiti. And the quicker aid can be delivered, the more lives can be saved.Individual fundraising has also benefited. Most people are now so well-connected through sites like Meta that asking people to contribute to your chosen cause is easier than ever.
New,innovative ways of donating are being thought up all the time. For example,if you want to support a good cause and keep fit at the same time, you can use an app called Charity Miles. 19 For every kilometer you cover, the app’s sponsors will make a donation to a charity of your choice. There’s also Snapdonate, which allows users to donate simply by taking a photo of a charity’s logo with their smartphone. The app recognizes the logo and allows users to immediately make a donation through their phones. This cuts out the need for entering payment details on charity websites, and makes the process of donating small amounts to multiple charities much simpler.
Apps like these are growing in number, and that can only be a good thing. 20
A.People were eager to aid others in trouble.
B.The app can track the distance you run or cycle.
C.News of disasters spreads quickly around the world.

Ever since a 2009 cycling accident put him in a wheelchair,Dan Black of Chepstow,Wales, has had one dream—walking.
He has adapted to his limitations, but he longs for the freedom and activity he once had.His mother says he “goes to bed dreaming he can walk and run”.Which is why he was excited to learn about cutting edge stem cell research being done in China, and a treatment that could possibly lead to the recovery of his legs.
But there are two big problems between Dan and his dream.First, the research is so cutting-edge that it may be years before the treatment is an actual, real possibility for him.And second is the most practical of all considerations:money. The procedure would doubtless cost tens of thousands of dollars—maybe more.
And these are not all for Dan.He lost the use of his legs and his right arm in the accident. He requires around-the-clock care,so it’s hard for him to find a job.His lifestyle is,according to his mother,“terrible”.Coming up with the money he will need for those treatments—when and if they are available—was a source of great concern to the young Welshman.
Encouraged by love and concern for Dan,friends worked hard through a series of fundraising activities over a period of five years to get more than 20,000 pounds for the procedure.Dan was moved by this extraordinary kindness and felt he could really start looking toward the day when he could turn his dream of walking again into a reality.
Then he heard about Brecon,a 5-year-old who also lives in Chepstow and suffers from spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, which severely limits his ability to walk.Dan learnt that a new surgical procedure being done in the United States could allow the little boy to walk unaided. But the surgery would require more than 60,000 pounds—money Brecon’s parents were having a hard time raising.
    注意:续写词数应为150左右。
“It appears that Brecon can walk if he gets his operation, but I can’t right now,” Dan said to himself. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Brecon’s parents were greatly moved by Dan’s behaviour. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    37.exciting 考查形容词。所填的词修饰名词adventures,所以用形容词形式。adventures为物,因此填exciting,意为“令人兴奋的”。
    38.who/that 考查定语从句。
    Dear Peter,
Representing the Students’ Union,I sincerely invite you to join us in the 10-km hiking trip to be held next week.
This activity is scheduled for next Tuesday. All the students and staff in our school will gather on the playground at 8:30 am,where the headmaster will address a brief opening ceremony. Then,we will walk 5 kilometers along the Dongjiang River before we make a return trip to school. If interested,do remember a pair of comfortable sneakers is necessary.
Hopefully, you will accept my invitation if convenient.Looking forward to your early reply.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    第二节
“It appears that Brecon can walk if he gets his operation, but I can’t right now,” Dan said to himself. So he felt that the money seemed more valuable to the boy.“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone...who has helped me out,” he said.“But this boy needs it more than I do at the moment.” So he took the cash—also his dream—out of the bank and handed it over to Brecon’s parents, telling them “it would make me very happy to see the difference made to Brecon’s life.”
Brecon’s parents were greatly moved by Dan’s behaviour.“It is really an amazing gift,” Brecon’s mother said.Brecon’s father could only shake his head in wonder.“How do you even start saying ‘thank you’ for something like that?” he asked. But for Dan’s part,no thanks are required. He just wanted to help someone whose life could get better, and if he can help someone to walk, that is just like his dream coming true.
