You may be familiar with the following famous people, but have you heard of their graduation speeches,in which they either share their unforgotten experiences or give you some great inspiration(灵感).
Michael Dell,University of Texas at Austin
And now you’ve accomplished something great and important here, and it’s time for you to move on to what’s next. And you must not let anything prevent you from taking those first steps... Steve Jobs,Stanford University
Sometimes life’s going to hit you in the head with a brick.Don’t lose faith...Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what you do.If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking and don’t settle.
Bill Gates,Harvard University
We need as many people as possible to have access to the advanced technology to lead to a revolution in what human beings can do for one another. They are making it possible not just for national governments, but for universities, smaller organizations, and even individuals to see problems, see approaches and deal with the world’s inequities(不公平) like hunger, poverty, and so on.

Around this time of year when the weather gets cooler in Arkansas, there are a lot of homeless people,as well as people with different situations who just need help.
Oftentimes our family serves at a soup kitchen where they give out bags of food to needy families in our area. And we’ll help put those bags of food together and hand them out, among other things.
There are a lot of reasons why serving the community is important to me,but one of them has to do with my father. My grandfather died when my father was 4 years old and my grandmother had four kids all under the age of 5,all born pretty close together. That was a time when things were so bad in the country. There wasn’t work and often the family hardly made ends meet,so my grandmother put the kids in a children’s home so that they could at least have food to survive.
My dad said he never forgot the local charity would bring the kids a gift for Christmas. The kids worked hard in the children’s home and the only present they got was from the local charity. He never forgot this kindness and always appreciated the local charity for what it did when he was a little boy.
My dad was such a hardworking worker-family meant the world to him.I was the seventh baby in my family and my mother had me just after she turned 40.She was one of those high-risk pregnancy moms, and I’m so grateful she had me.My mom and dad made a happy home for us,and I’m so grateful for that.I hope my children are catching those lessons, not just from Mom and Dad,but from grandparents and everyone else in their lives.

A famous teacher was speaking to the students at our school. He began his lesson by holding up a £100 bill. Then he said to the three hundred students,“Who would like to have this £100 bill?”The students began to put up their hands at once.
Then he said,“I am going to give this bill to one of you,but first, let me do this.”He then made this bill into a ball. Then he said,“Who wants it?”Hands went into the air.
“Well,”he said,“What if I do this?” and he dropped it on the floor and stepped on it.He picked up the dirty, crumpled bill and said,“Who still wants it?”Hands went back into the air.
“My friends,”he said,“You’ve learned a valuable lesson today. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it didn’t go down in value. It was still worth £100.”
“Many times in our lives,we’re dropped, crumpled, and stepped on by the chances we take and the things that happen to us.We feel as if we are worth nothing. But remember,no matter what has happened to you,you will never lose your value:you are always valuable to those who love you.Your value doesn’t come from what you drop or whom you know, but WHO YOU ARE.”

It’s reported that scientists in London have found the best diet for both humans and the planet.
If the world followed the so-called “planetary health” diet, each year more than 11 million early deaths could be avoided according to the scientists. For the health of the planet, they say the same diet will reduce (减少) greenhouse gases and save more land, water and animals. This new food plan is the result of a three-year project organized by The Lancet health journal.
Tim Lang,a professor at Britain’s University of London. He said,“The food we eat and how we produce it decide the health of people and the planet.” Lang added,“The world’s population is expected to grow to 10 billion people by 2050.If we want to feed everyone,we all need to change what we eat and the way we eat by improving food production and reducing food waste.”So,what do you eat on the “planetary health” diet?
The scientists who created the “planetary health” diet say it is largely plant-based but still has a little milk, fish and meat. The diet calls for cutting down red meat and sugar by 50 percent and increasing nuts, fruits, and vegetable.
Walter Willet of Harvard University in the United States also talked about the “planetary health” diet.He said,“More than 800 million people around the world do not get enough food while many more people have very unhealthy diets.”
The scientists think it difficult to reach their aim.But for them, doing nothing is also not a choice.Willet said,“If we can’t make the best diet,it’s better to try and get as close as we can.”

Do you have a spare room in your house?Do you like to share your drive way in front of your garage with others? Both of these can help you make money. 36
Perhaps the best-known example of a company in this field is Airbnb—an American web business which allows you to rent out your spare room to holidaymakers. It says it operates in 34,000 cities and it has 800,000 listings of rooms and apartments. 37 A British company is doing something with parking spaces.JustPark’s founder,Anthony Eskinaizi, says,“when I had the original idea,I spotted a driveway close to a sports stadium. It would have been so convenient if I could have just parked in the driveway rather than in a commercial car park.” 38 Around 20,000 people have advertised their spaces on the website, and he says around half a million drivers use it.
39 They are people who run things like traditional hotels and commercial car parks. They are afraid of ending up losing money.
40 Regulations for these new businesses are unclear. How will renting out your driveway affect your neighbour?Because this is a new business world, those rules aren’t there yet.
A.And there is another problem.
B.A commercial car park is inconvenient.
C.And his great idea has proved a success.
D.But the new business of renting has its competitors.
E.They seem to have occupied the majority of the market.
F.But the government says no to the new business of renting.
G.Many people are benefiting from this new business of renting.

The true purpose of a business,Peter Drucker said,is to create and keep customers.“Customer value”has several definitions.I use the 41 to mean the total lifetime value of a company’s customer base.Companies can increase this value by 42 more customers, earning more business from existing ones, keeping them longer, making their experience simpler through digital improvements and so on. 43 leaders have long understood the importance of concentrating on customer value rather than pursuing short-term profits or quarterly earnings, and they’ve become enduring customer loyalty leaders in the process. It’s worth noting that a number of loyalty-leading companies are able to 44 shareholder pressure,or avoid it altogether, because they are founder-led,customer-owned,or not publicly traded.
Companies can 45 customer value in a variety of ways:To increase 46 ,enterprise software companies sometimes charge corporate customers change fees that can raise the total cost of ownership to as much as three times the original price. To reduce operating costs, restaurant chains sometimes 47 frozen and precooked ingredients in place of fresh and made-to-order food. The resulting profits may look good on the income statement.Such strategies may even lead to short-term earnings growth. But they also 48 potential customers and encourage disloyalty.
Given the importance of customer value, leaders should track it as much as they track other key assets (资产),such as buildings, machinery, and marketable securities. They also should reveal it in their quarterly and annual earnings releases so that investors can make 49 judgments about company performance and how it compares with that of industry peers. But most companies 50 believe that measuring customer value is too difficult or costly. They continue to rely on a centuries-old accounting tradition that emphasizes physical and financial assets, and neither income statements nor balance sheets offer much 51 into the value of a company’s customers.
As investors wake up to the importance of customer value, however, many growth-stage companies now direct investors’ attention to 52 in growing the value of their customer base. Some public companies increasingly report various types of customer value metrics (指标).One of the UK’s top energy suppliers E.ON, 53 ,reports year-over-year customer counts in its financial report.“As a customer-focused company,”E.ON noted,“we see customer value as crucial to our success.”
This is a start, but because there are no customer-value reporting standards or requirements, investors still have a(n) 54 picture. The minority of companies that do provide customer value information decide for themselves what to disclose. 55 ,firms may calculate customer metrics differently or change them to tell a desired story,or simply stop reporting them if they fail to go with the company’s preferred narrative.

2.也有人认为金钱是万恶之源(root of all evil);

参考范文
Can Money Buy Happiness?
Different people have different opinions. Some think yes, while others hold the opposite.
It is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, and live a life of comfort and security. However,it is equally true that a lack of money causes great distress. It is a common view that money is the root of all evil. The pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. In some places there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corrupt societies where everybody is miserable.
So,money does not necessarily mean happiness. It all depends on how it is used.If we make honest and sensible use of money,it can be a stepping-stone to happiness.Although money cannot buy happiness,it can make happiness possible if it is employed sensibly.
第二节(满分25分)

Having been a stay-at-home mom for 26 years,Atlanta-born KC just turned 50 and sought a job.She was not just looking for some thing to do.Putting four kids through college had left her in severe financial problems.Getting a job was a must!
From childhood, all KC wanted to be was a mom.“That’s all.I’m just a mom who stayed home with my children and created a good and comfortable home for my family.”She was not sure why that ambition was so strong for her.“My mom worked full-time,so I did not see her often.Maybe because I wished she was at home with me,”KC said.
So after the birth of her first child,KC gave up her job and spent the next 26 years taking care of her children and family. But after such a long time, she wanted to find a job.
She realized the difficulty of the situation. When she sent out a resume that had a 26-year-gap,she knew it was lucky if she could even get an interview, let alone an offer. On the other side, her education was also one of the obstacles. The fact that she didn’t go to college was influential. At the time that she graduated from high school,it wasn’t common for girls to go to college. It was only a dream.
So after her own experiences, she advised others that,“Get a college degree!I wouldn’t change a thing about being a stay-at-home mom,but do something—no matter how small—to keep your skills up to date. There are so many choices these days that it would be easy to do while being a full-time mom.
KC would still like to get a degree and discussed it with her husband. Her husband thought that she needed to get a job first, then went to a part-time school. She agreed.
With a college degree seemingly impossible at the moment,KC wanted to develop her skills so she would be ready for the workforce. She wanted to keep up with current technology. But it was hard. She took a class on skills and loved to learn new soft wares.
