Do you ever feel sick of your life? Then why not sell it? This is exactly what one man is attempting to do following the breakdown of his marriage.
Ian Usher, a 44-year-old British man living in Australia, is using the online
auction site eBay to sell not only his belongings, but his entire life. Up for grabs
(供选购的) are his house and everything that’s in it: his car, his jetski (水上摩托
车 ), his parachuting gear, even his pots and pans. But what makes the auction unique is that the package also includes a two-week trial run(试验)at his job as an
assistant in a drug store, and even an introduction to his friends in the local area.
The lovelorn Mr Usher said he no longer wanted to be reminded of the life he shared with his ex-wife, and hopes the sale will raise money for a life-changing adventure. He said that once the sale has gone through, he plans to “walk out of his front door with his wallet in one pocket and his passport in the other,” and see where the next plane takes him.
Bidding( 竞 标 )opened on Sunday, and by Monday morning had already
reached the staggering figure (高额数字) of 13 million yuan (2 million Australian dollars). Unfortunately for Mr Usher most of the high bids turned out to be fake, as he had not activated a registration system (登记系统) that would have only let
genuine (真的) bids through. After removing the bogus bids the value of his “life”
stood at 2 million yuan, though he hopes the final figure will be over 3 million yuan.
Whatever the final price he receives, he is by no means the first person to try
to sell something unusual online. A fighter jet, a piece of Britney Spears’ chewing gum, and even some toenail clippings have all been sold on eBay.
    35. What caused Ian Usher to sell his belongings and his life online?
    A. His running out of money.
    B. His intention of exploring something unusual.
    C. His intention of making more friends.
    D. His breaking up with his wife.
    36. What does the underlined word “bogus” (in the fourth paragraph) probably mean?
    A. Fake. B. Useful. C. Genuine. D. High.
    37. A fighter jet, a piece of Britney Spears’ chewing gum, and some toenail clippings are mentioned in the passage to _________.
    A. attract more people to sell things on eBay
    B. convince readers that people do sell something unusual online
    C. help Ian Usher get higher bids online
    D. help Ian Usher raise more money
    38. Which can be the best title of the passage?
    A. Ian Usher and His Belongings
    B. Online Auction
    C. Sold on eBay
    D. For Sale: One Life

Downloading music over the Internet is pretty common among high school
and college students. However, when students download and share copyrighted (有 版权的)music without permission, they are against the law.
A survey of young people’s music ownership has found that teenagers and college students have an average of more than 800 illegally copied songs each on
their digital music players.Half of those surveyed share all the music on their hard
drive (硬盘), enabling others to copy hundreds of songs at any one time. Some students were found to have randomly linked their personal blogs to music sites, so
as to allow free trial listening of copyrighted songs for blog visitors, or adopted
some of the songs as the background music for their blogs. Such practices may be easy and free, but there are consequences.
Sandra Dowd, a student of Central Michigan University, was fined US $7,500
for downloading 501 files from Lime Wire, a peer-to-peer file sharing program. Sandra claimed that she was unaware that her downloads were illegal until she was contacted by authorities. Similarly, Mike Lewinski paid US $4,000 to settle a
lawsuit(起诉)against him for copyright violation (违反). Mike expressed shock
and couldn’t believe that this was happening to him. “I just wanted to save some money and I always thought the threat was just a scare tactic(战术).” “You know, everyone does it,” added Mike.
The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), the organization
that files lawsuits against illegal downloaders, states that suing (控告) students was by no means their first choice. Unfortunately, without the threat of consequences,
students are just not changing their behavior. Education alone is not enough to stop
the extraordinary growth of the illegal downloading practice.
    39. Why is it common for students to download copyrighted music?
    A. They want their friends to know that they are smart.
    B. They don’t think that they will be caught.
    C. They think it is a good way to make some extra money.
    D. They are against copyright protection over Internet music.
    40. What does Mike mean by saying that “the threat was just a scare tactic”?
    A. One should not be afraid of threats.
    B. A lawsuit will result from the threat.
    C. No serious consequence will follow the threat.
    D. It is unfair to scare people with a threat.
    41. What’s the best title for this passage?
    A. Copyright(版权) Violators, Be aware!
    B. How to Get Free Music Online!
    C. A Survey of Students’ Downloading Habits
    D. Get rid of Illegal Music Download? Impossible!

    D
The COVID-19 and flu are both respiratory(呼吸的) infectious diseases, with
similar symptoms including fever and cough, but they are not the same.
Both the COVID-19 and flu are diseases caused by a virus. In the case of flu,
the pathogens( 病 原 体 ) are flu viruses, and for COVID-19, it is a novel
    coronavirus(新型冠状病毒).
Common symptoms for flu and novel corona-virus are nearly identical fever, cough and tiredness, sometimes sore throat and diarrhea. In severe cases, they result in pneumonia(肺炎), and even deaths in the worst cases. Flu has seasonal ups and downs. Although it can exist all year round, the virus infects more people in winter and spring. As for the novel corona-virus, there is not yet enough evidence showing how it would respond to changing weather.
The mortality rate(死亡率) for the novel corona-virus is higher than that for
flu. Generally, people with poor immunity(免疫力), especially children and seniors, are more likely to catch seasonal flu and develop into severe cases. As for the novel corona-virus, the median(中值的)age for the infected is 51. But the novel corona-virus is a brand-new virus, and no one has total immunity no matter their
    age.
Both the flu and the novel corona-virus are transmitted(传播) in similar ways,
by direct contact with infected patients or small droplets from the nose or mouth when a person with viruses coughs or breathes.
Flu can be spread by an infected person for several days before their
symptoms appear. As for the novel corona-virus, spread might be possible before
people show symptoms, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus
    spreads.
For the novel corona-virus, there is also a risk for aerosol transmission(气溶
胶传播). In health facilities, people may catch the virus if they breathed in aerosol, the suspension(悬浮) of fine solid or liquid particles in the air, which have been
contaminated by the virus. The novel corona-virus has also been found in patients'
fecal(排泄物) samples, but fecal-oral transmission does not appear to be a major
    transmission route.
42.What can we learn about the novel corona-virus?
    A.It has seasonal changes.
B.It causes less deaths than flu.
C.It may spread among people of all ages.
D.It only spreads after people show symptoms.
43.Which of the following is NOT the way the novel corona-virus transmits?
    A.Aerosol transmission. B.Contact transmission.
    C.Fecal-oral transmission. D.Age transmission.
44.The author's main purpose of writing the article is probably to_____
A.prove flu has less harm to humans than COVID-19
B.raise people's awareness of protecting their health
    C.prove COVID-19 probably won't cause human deaths
D.provide some suggestions to avoid COVID-19 infection
    45. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.A new treatment on the novel corona-virus.
B.The latest research on COVID-19 and flu.
C.The difference between the novel corona-virus and flu.
D.How to identify COVID-19 and flu on symptoms.

Freshmen anywhere may be nervous about university life. Here, three pieces of advice are for them.
    Listen but don’t be silent
The world is held in students’ hands via smart phones. Thus, they may
consider lecture listening less important. 46 It forces students to face the
difficulties of training a deep attentiveness(注意). Unsurprisingly, students find it hard to speak out, ask questions or for points of clarification. They don’t want to
appear foolish or incapable. However, there is no such thing as a foolish question.
Teachers are there to help you understand. This also goes for seminars and
    workshops. 47
    Read and buy books
48 There’re so many useful online sources today, but the habit of
reading books, especially whole books, is something being lost. Buy your own books. There are many bargains to be found on used-book websites or through Amazon. Being a book lover and buyer will help any student get the most out of their education.
    49
As a student, you don’t just have to learn to listen and become an active reader: you also have to become an academic(学术的)writer. Written work at
college level cannot be done at the last minute or in a rush. It takes time. Turn to
your teachers. If they will read draft essays then make sure you can get
feedback(反馈)ahead of the final submission. 50 Students who get feedback
on their work always do better than those who do not. It is one of the few educational laws that holds true in all cases.
    A. Don’t try to do it all the night before.
    B. However, a lecture is a listening workout.
    C. Thinking clearly cannot be done in a rush.
    D. So train your ear, listen carefully, but don’t be silent.
    E. Reading is the most important thing that any student does.
    F. Re-writing has proved to be the turning point in one’s degree.
    G. If they won’t read drafts(草稿), then ask them to run through(匆匆浏览)your ideas.

    参考范文
    Dear Mike,
I’m really glad to hear from you. I feel proud knowing you’re interested in Chinese literature. The Chinese idiom you asked me is really funny. There is a story behind it.
A man in the Song State was anxious about the slow growth of his seedlings. One day, he
went to the field and pulled them upward one by one. He came back tiredly and told his family he had helped the seedlings grow much taller all at once. His son ran to look at the seedlings. To his horror, all of them had dried up and died.
This Chinese idiom means that growing against the law of development in things and being
over-anxious for quick results will make things worse.
Looking forward to meeting you soon.
    Yours
    Li Hua

W: No. Get up now! You only have 20 minutes left to catch that 8:30 school bus!
    2.C
【原文】W: Darling, could you pick me up this evening?
M: Sorry, I can’t. I’ve got a lot of work to finish today.
    3.C
【原文】W: I thought you were going to that concert this weekend. Shouldn’t you be on your way to the stadium by now?
M: That’s next weekend. This weekend I will enjoy an art exhibition with my mom in town.
    4.C
【原文】W: Look, she’s finally asleep. Let’s be quiet. We should wear headphones when we watch the movie.
M: OK. We will just shut her door when we leave. But first, we’ll turn some calm music on.
    W: Sounds great.
    5.C
【原文】W: Hi, Peter. I will be on a trip to California for a few days. Would you mind caring for my dog?
M: Of course not. Enjoy your trip.

【原文】M: Hi, Lucy. How was your weekend?
W: Great! You know, we went mountain climbing in the forest park. The air was so different from the city, cool and fresh.
    M: Sounds great!
W: Yeah, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and we could see from miles from the top. What about you? What did you do?

    M: Busy packing.
W: Oh, yes, of course! I forgot you and Jenny are moving into a new house. It’s on Wednesday, isn’t it?
M: Yeah, two days after. I didn't realize there are so many things to do.
W: Can I help out with anything?
M: Um, it would be nice if you could take care of Henry for a couple of days.
    W: Henry?
    M: Yes, my dog.
W: Oh, sure, no problem. You just focus on the move.

【原文】M: Jude, why are you looking so annoyed?
W:Oh, I had to catch the bus to school today because my bike is at the repair shop. I hate going on the bus. I would rather walk to school. I can walk along beside the river and see many animals. It's great.
M: Yeah, your school is in a really nice place, I was pretty disappointed when I wasn't selected.
W: But you're glad to go to Park School now, aren't you?
M: Oh, yes. I like it, I wouldn't have been able to study Japanese or design technology if I'd gone to your school.
W: Maybe, but our sports teams usually beat yours!
M: That's not always true! We beat you at tennis last month.
W: Yeah, but our footballers have just won a match.
M: I read about it in the newspaper. There was also a report in the same paper about our school.
W: Is the head teacher of your school thinking about changing school uniforms. like our head teacher is?
M: I don't think our uniforms need to be changed, They look quite smart and are comfortable.

【原文】M: Hello, everyone. We are lucky to have Molly Taylor here today. Molly is organizing an activity course for the summer holidays. Molly, this is the second year of the course, isn’t it?
W: Yes. The summer course operated for the first time last year for a six-week period. We did think about making it longer this year and having a seven-week course, as two schools have eight-week holidays. But in the end we decided to keep to the same plan as last year.
M: But, as I understand, last year’s course wasn’t a complete success, was it?
W: Well, we were actually very surprised by the number of people interested in the course. We didn’t actually have enough assistants to look after all the children. Besides, there was such a lot of rain that we couldn’t go outside as often as we wanted to.
M: So, what activities can the children look forward to this year?
W: Well, once again there’ll be artists and musicians who will lead creative classes. We also considered providing some more exciting adventure sports. But we decided not to, in the end. Instead we’re introducing some fun programs. I think it’ll be good fun for the children.
