Some free things to do in Bangkok to get more bang for your baht (泰铢).
Chatuchak Weekend Market
One of the largest markets in the world, Chatuchak is a simply unforgettable Bangkok experience, even if you don’t plan on buying anything. It’s free to visit and there are more than 15,000 stalls to explore from antiques and souvenirs to used trainers, miniature (微缩模型) food offerings for spirit houses and live frogs.
The full market operates from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. You’d better arrive by 10 am to beat the crowds and the heat.
Papaya
Technically, many of the objects in this celebrated four-story antique store are for sale, but prices for the owner’s collection of 19th- and 20th-century artifacts are so astronomically high that the collection never seems to exhaust. Instead, many see Papaya as a museum of recent nostalgia (怀旧),and it’s a great place to browse without any pressure to buy.
Bangkok Doll Factory & Museum
This workshop was founded by Thai doll enthusiast Khunying Chandavimol in 1956 after she completed a doll-making course in Japan. Her dolls draw on Thai mythology and various historical periods, and the collection includes some 400 dolls from around the world, plus important pieces from her own workshop, where you can watch the figures being crafted by hand for free.
The museum is tricky to find; take a taxi from BTS Phaya Thai and get the driver to call the museum for directions.
Chinatown
Thick with the scent of traditional herbal medicines, Bangkok’s Chinatown offers a sensory experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the city. The narrow market alleys off Yaowarat Road are crammed with (塞满) bird’s-nest soup restaurants, dangling lanterns, gaudy gold and jade shops, and flashing neon signs in Chinese characters. It is Bangkok’s most crowded neighborhood, where half the fun is in getting completely lost.
21.Which of the following will be your best choice, if you are looking for a 1960s typewriter?
A.Chatuchak or Papaya. B.Chatuchak or Chinatown.
C.Papaya or Bangkok Doll Factory. D.Papaya or Chinatown.
22.Which place is a little bit hard to arrive at?
A.Chatuchak. B.Papaya.
C.Bangkok Doll Factory. D.Chinatown.

C.You can just window shop as you like. D.You are able to visit the places anytime.

After schools moved online a year ago because of COVID-19, Jonte Lee, a teacher in Washington, DC.was determined to make his chemistry labs interactive and accessible. He figured the way to do so was to connect to the students on social platforms.
As a result, Lee has been livestreaming (网络直播) his lessons on Instagram and Facebook, inspiring students to follow along at home. Lee’s principal suggested he livestream a lab last April. “Our thought behind it was students know how to use Instagram and Facebook,” Lee said,
Realizing that most of his students would not have access to lab equipment when they had online lessons, Lee largely uses items that can be found in most kitchens. “And if there’s something a student doesn’t have, I don’t mind shipping it to the student,” he said.
Since beginning his lessons, Lee has heard from viewers across the country about how his classes have improved their experience of attending online school. One woman told Lee she had been worried about supervising her grandchildren’s classes at home. “She was like, ‘I know nothing about science, what’s going to happen?’ and then she came across my page,” said Lee. “Stories like that really touch my heart.”
Lee also has bought and delivered backpacks, school supplies, and even Amazon Fire tablets to each of his students. Lee poured his summer school teaching salary into the endeavor, calling is an “incredible experience”. Lee’s favorite lesson described how to make ice cream in three different ways, because of how engaged his students were even after the livestream ended.
Lee plans to continue posting videos even after students go back to school in person. “As a public school teacher, I have no intention to be famous or make money. I simply want to give back to all the taxpayers that fund my salary,” said Lee. “This allowed me to be a community teacher, and not a teacher that is bound by the four walls in my classroom.”
24.What can we learn about Jonte Lee?
A.He didn’t know how to make his online classes interesting.
B.His idea was not supported by the principle in his school.
C.He mostly chose items found in kitchen for his online lessons.
D.He guided students to use Instagram and Facebook.
25.What does the underlined word “supervising” probably mean in Para.4?
A.managing B.skipping C.teaching D.attending
26.What can we conclude from the last two paragraphs?
A.Lee’s classes have a negative effect on people. B.Lee’s students show no interest in his classes at all.
C.Lee plans to continue posting videos to earn money. D.Lee’s purpose is to pay back to society as a teacher.
27.Which word can best describe Jonte Lee?
A.Cautious. B.Determined. C.Humorous. D.Awkward.

For decades, India’s time zone has been a hotly debated issue. Back in 1884 when time zones were officially established, two time zones were used — Bombay Time and Calcutta Time. Indian Standard Time (IST) was introduced in 1906, but Calcutta Time and Bombay Time continued to be maintained after
India’s independence in 1947, until 1948 and 1955 respectively. The current single time zone, though a legacy of British rule, is often viewed as a symbol of unity. Yet, not everyone thinks it is a good idea. India stretches 3,000 km from east to west, spanning roughly 30 degrees longitude. This corresponds to a two-hour difference in mean solar time, based on the position of the sun in the sky. Thus, the sun rises nearly two hours earlier in the east than in India’s far west. In Northeastern states, sunrise can be as early as 4 a.m. in summer and sunset by 4 p.m. in winter, much earlier than the official working hours. This results in great loss of daylight hours and more consumption of electricity, and often reduced productivity.
Meanwhile, recent studies point out that the current system leads to a serious problem in education for some students. Nationwide, the school day starts at roughly the same time; thus, children go to bed later and have reduced sleep in west India, where the sun sets later. Such sunset-induced sleep deprivation is more pronounced among the poor, mostly due to their noisy environment and lack of sleep-inducing facilities like window shades or indoor beds. On average, an hour’s delay in sunset time reduces children’s sleep by 30 minutes, and an hour’s delay in annual average sunset time reduces education by about 0.8 years. As a result, children living in locations with later sunsets are less likely to complete primary and middle school education.
Despite various requests and proposals for multiple time zones, the government is keen to retain the current system. Reasons provided include prevention of confusion and safety issues regarding railway and flight operations.
28.Which of the following illustrates the Indian time zone system since 1955?
A. B. C. D.
29.Which of the following is closest in meaning to the word “pronounced” in the third paragraph?
A.Noisy. B.Distant. C.Flexible. D.Outstanding.
30.According to the passage, which of the following is a supporting argument for multiple time zones?
A.The number of traffic accidents can be reduced.
B.Children may have better-quality sleep and education.
C.India may have more energy resources to generate electricity.
D.The country may rid itself of the impact of British colonization.
31.According to the passage, when is most likely the sunset hour in December in the city of Varanasi shown on the map?
A.7 p.m. B.6 p.m. C.5 p.m. D.4 p.m.
D
It seemed interesting that on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s departure for France, the Indian and French governments issued similar statements on the prospects of an agreement on the purchase of the Rafale aircraft: that no single deal should be allowed to overshadow the Prime Minister’s visit. Indeed, India-France relations are much bigger than any one contract; they represent the cultural affinityl (密切关系) and historic relations between two vibrant (醒目的) democracies. The items on the Prime Minister’s agenda reflected the range of commonalities — from the preservation of ancient architecture to the development of Puducherry and Chandigarh as smart cities; from the construction of semi-high-speed railway lines to cooperation on a space mission to Mars; from discussing anti-terror training to tackling climate change through renewable technologies and a robust nuclear partnership. The economic aspect of the relationship has been ignored for too long. Although more than a thousand French companies have a total investment of about $20 billion in India, bilateral trade is worth just $8 billion. While all this deserved attention, it was disappointing that the Prime Minister put the spotlight back on defence ties by making a surprise announcement on the purchase of 36 Rafale aircraft as the highlight of his talks with President Francois Hollande. If the outright purchase was a crucial military necessity, it could have been discussed a few weeks before or after the visit, as a political push for the deal was secondary to the technical specifications and delivery requirements. Moreover, the deal, which involves purchasing products off the shelf abroad, detracts from Mr. Modi’s “Make in India” initiative (主动性).
The breakthrough on the Areva nuclear equipment deal, on the other hand, shows the positive outcome of Mr. Modi’s and Mr. Hollande’s political push, combined with a “Make in India” twist. As in the case of Indo-U.S. nuclear negotiations, Mr. Modi and Mr. Hollande decided to clear the logjam by splitting the problem into different silos — allowing for separate mechanisms for the pricing issues and for the technical and legal aspects. The supplementary deal involving Areva and L&T producing heavy forging metal casing for nuclear reactors is an important step in localising some of the expensive parts. During his visit to Canada, where he hopes to sign a deal for uranium supplies, Mr. Modi means to take forward his plan to increase nuclear energy production. Given this objective, it may be useful for him to round off the visit by discussing his nuclear energy plans in Germany as well, which is now winding down on nuclear power but is at the cutting edge of nuclear safety research for the European Pressurised Reactors that are being considered for India.
32.Which of the following got the whole attention other than many important deals?
A.Cooperation on a space mission to Mars. B.Anti-terror training.
C.Purchase of Rafale Fighters. D.General VK Singh’s remark on the Press.
33.Which of the following option is on the agenda of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi as stated above?
A.Preservation of ancient architecture. B.Development of Puducherry and Chandigarh as smart cities.
C.Construction of semi-high-speed railway lines. D.All of the above.
34.Choose an appropriate Title for the above passage: .
A.The Big Deal B.Modi’s Success C.Modi’s tour to France D.Rafale and beyond
35.Which of the following is the meaning of the word ‘logjam’?
A.A long traffic jam during Prime Minister Modi’s visit. B.A state of mind where you cannot decide what to do.
C.A situation that seems like unable to be settled. D.A place from where The French President used to work.
Self-esteem is the ruling view you have of yourself. This includes your beliefs about your inner qualities and how you think others see you. ___36___ Someone can develop low self-esteem even when they are highly functional and greatly skilled. Understanding this mysterious emotional currency might be the key to unlocking your own self-worth.
People with healthy self-esteem don't need to boast about themselves to others. People with low self-esteem may tell you how much everyone loves them, what a great job they do at work, and how amazing they are at pretty everything under the sun even though they really wonder if it's true. People may see them as obnoxious or “full of themselves”. ___37___ They are not shy about sharing ideas, including constructive criticisms of others. They also take care of themselves without second-guessing or apologizing. They are the people who we say seem “sure of themselves”.
If you're starting to think you may have low self-esteem, you can work on the way you talk to yourself. When you turn off negative self-talk, you can open the floor to positive reinforcements and access the courage to show different sides of yourself. It isn't going to feel good at first, though. Keep going until it becomes less and less and maybe even a few awkward laughs in the mirror may help. ___38___
However, in serious cases of low or even non-existent self-esteem, you may want to call in a professional or a specialist. Good mental health is important, and professionals doing psychotherapy do not pass judgement or give corrections. ___39___ It is the best way to get at the roots of your real self-esteem problems.
___40___ It will take some work but your entire life — from your relationships to your body image to your work habits — will be touched with the kind of power that only comes from someone believing in themselves. This is the hardest part, and the greatest leap. With some changes and support, you can improve your self-esteem and see how everything else changes as a result.
A.Self-esteem is not always rooted in reality, though.
B.You have the power to shape a new self-perception.
C.This encourages you to speak openly without worry.
D.The real test of character is whether they can learn from their mistakes.
E.Self-esteem refers to a person's overall sense of his or her value or worth.
F.People with a healthy level of self-esteem present themselves with a casual confidence.
G.With some practice and persistence, you will win this internal struggle to see your self-worth.

Amanda lived in a big modern city. Due to the high-speed development of economy, families from different backgrounds came here to find a better life. Amanda’s classmate and friend, Rama, was from one of those families.
One day after school, Amanda and Rama were chatting and Rama mentioned how much she missed her friends and hometown. “It is hard to leave,” Rama sighed, “but my family needed to be somewhere that is easier to make a living. Holding Rama’s hands, Amanda encouraged her to share more and she knew Rama loved to sing and dance with her friends back in her hometown.
After learning about Rama’s story, Amanda started to notice more students like Rama in her school. For the first time she realized that those students looked sad in their eyes. Sometimes because of their different accents, they couldn’t communicate well with others, which made them always sit or stand silently at the back of the classroom.
“They are having a hard time, we should show them kindness and love!” she told her mother one day. Amanda asked her mother what she could do to help make them feel welcome. Amanda’s mother suggested, “What about using art? Maybe it will be easier to communicate through art.” Amanda thought for a while and nodded. Like her friend Rama, Amanda loved all forms of art, like painting, singing, dancing, and performing, through which she could tell different stories about her family, and her life.
The next day, Amanda went to the Activity Center in her school and proposed her plan of an art show. The officer thought it a great idea. Inspired and excited, Amanda set about her plan with several friends. At the Activity Center they filled a room with paper, paint and pencils. They even made a small stage! Everything ready, they invited all the new students in her school and Amanda encouraged them to share something special about their hometown in any art form. To Amanda’s surprise, no one responded.

根据Chatuchak Weekend Market部分中的“It’s free to visit and there are more than 15,000 stalls to explore from antiques and souvenirs to used trainers, miniature (微缩模型) food offerings for spirit houses and live frogs.(它是免费参观的,有超过15000个摊位可供探索,从古董和纪念品到二手运动鞋,为灵屋和活青蛙提供的微型食品)”和Papaya部分中的“Technically, many of the objects in this celebrated four-story antique store are for sale, but prices for the owner’s collection of 19th- and 20th-century artifacts are so astronomically high that the collection never seems to exhaust.(从技术上讲,这家著名的四层古董店中的许多物品都在出售,但业主收藏的 19 世纪和 20 世纪文物的价格如此之高,以至于收藏品似乎永远不会耗尽)”可知,这两个地方都收藏了很多的古董,很有可能找到20世纪60年代的打字机。故选A项。
根据Bangkok Doll Factory & Museum 部分中的“The museum is tricky to find; take a taxi from BTS Phaya Thai and get the driver to call the museum for directions.(博物馆很难找到;从BTS Phaya Thai乘坐出租车,让司机打电话给博物馆问路)”可知,要去该博物馆,出租车司机都要打电话问路。 根据文章开头“Some free things to do in Bangkok to get more bang for your baht (泰铢).(在曼谷做一些免费的事情,让你的泰铢获得更多的收益)”可知,本文介绍的这四个去处都可以不用花钱就可以看看的地方,C选项中的window shop意为“只看不买”符合题意。

根据第三段第一句“Realizing that most of his students would not have access to lab equipment when they had online lessons, Lee largely uses items that can be found in most kitchens. (意识到他的大多数学生在上网课时无法使用实验室设备,李在很大程度上使用了大多数厨房里都能找到的设备。)”可知,他大多数的网课设备都是从厨房找的。故选C项。
25.词句猜测题。根据第四段第三句“She was like, ‘I know nothing about science, what’s going to happen?’ and then she came across my page,” said Lee. 故选A项。
根据最后一段二三句他说的话“As a public school teacher, I have no intention to be famous or make money. I simply want to give back to all the taxpayers that fund my salary, (作为一名公立学校教师,我无意成名或赚钱。我只是想回馈给所有为我的薪水提供资金的纳税人)”可知,他上线上课程不是为了钱财和名利,只是为了回馈纳税人,即只是为了回馈社会。故选D项。
27.推理判断题题。根据第一段第一句“After schools moved online a year ago because of COVID-19, Jonte Lee, a teacher in Washington, DC. was determined to make his chemistry labs interactive and accessible. (一年前,在学校因新冠肺炎而转为线上直播课后,华盛顿特区的一名教师乔恩特·李决心让他的化学实验室变得互动和方便。)”和倒数第二段的“Lee also has bought and delivered backpacks, school supplies, and even Amazon Fire tablets to each of his students. Lee poured his summer school teaching salary into the endeavor, calling is an “incredible experience”.(李还为他的每个学生购买并交付了背包、学习用品,甚至亚马逊Fire平板电脑。李将自己的暑期学校教学工资投入到这项工作中,称这是一次“难以置信的经历”)”推知,他对上好线上化学课很有决心,很坚决。故选B项。

【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了印度的时区历史演变及其引发的相关问题
28.推理判读题。根据第一段“For decades, India’s time zone has been a hotly debated issue. Back in 1884 when time zones were officially established, two time zones were used — Bombay Time and Calcutta Time. Indian Standard Time (IST) was introduced in 1906, but Calcutta Time and Bombay Time continued to be maintained after(几十年来,印度的时区一直是一个备受争议的问题。早在1884年正式建立时区时,就使用了两个时区——孟买时间和加尔各答时间。印度标准时间(IST)于1906年引入,但加尔各答时间和孟买时间在之后继续保持不变)”根据第二段“The current single time zone, though a legacy of British rule, is often viewed as a symbol of unity.”(目前的单一时区虽然是英国统治的遗产,但通常被视为团结的象征)可推知,A项中的图片能够说明自1955年以来的印度时区系统。故选A。
根据第三段第一句话“Meanwhile, recent studies point out that the current system leads to a serious problem in education for some students. (同时,最近的研究指出,目前的制度导致了一些学生在教育方面的严重问题)”以及划线单词所在的后半句话“mostly due to their noisy environment and lack of sleep-inducing facilities like window shades or indoor beds(主要是因为他们的环境嘈杂,缺乏像窗帘或室内床这样的睡眠诱导设施)”可知,这种由日落引起的睡眠剥夺在穷人中更为显著。所以划线单词的意思为“显著的”。故选D。
30.推理判断题。根据第三段“ Meanwhile, recent studies point out that the current system leads to a serious problem in education for some students.
根据第二段“India’s independence in 1947, until 1948 and 1955 respectively.

由第一段中的“While all this deserved attention, it was disappointing that the Prime Minister put the spotlight back on defence ties by making a surprise announcement on the purchase of 36 Rafale aircraft as the highlight of his talks with President Francois Hollande.
由第一段中的“The items on the Prime Minister’s agenda reflected the range of commonalities — from the preservation of ancient architecture to the development of Puducherry and Chandigarh as smart cities; from the construction of semi-high-speed railway lines to cooperation on a space mission to Mars; from discussing anti-terror training to tackling climate change through renewable technologies and a robust nuclear partnership.
第二段中的“The breakthrough on the Areva nuclear equipment deal, on the other hand, shows the positive outcome of Mr. (A situation that seems like unable to be settled)”。故选C项。

66.Dear David,
How is everything going? Since you asked about the Red Cross First Aid Club that I’m in, let me tell you something about it.
The club was founded last year to promote health education among students. So far, it has attracted over 10 students who are interested in health-related issues and willing to lend a hand during emergencies. The members meet every other week to take courses or take part in voluntary services. Recently, we have just received CPR training and learnt how to use the AED device, which is now available in most public places in China. In fact, the pictures I sent you were taken when I was performing CPR on a dummy
I have gained a lot from the club. It has taught me some life-saving skills. Moreover, it provides me with a chance to see the medical professionals work up close, whose profound knowledge impresses me a lot. On top of that, I have learnt that life can be fragile so we should respect it and cherish every day.
What clubs are you in? Write to me and tell me anything that you find interesting in your clubs! I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
