Noah Webster was born on October 16, 1758, in the West Division of Hartford.
Few people went to college at that time, but Noah loved to learn so much that his parents let him go to Yale, Connecticut’s only college. Noah graduated(毕业) in 1778.
Noah did not like American schools. Sometimes 70 children of all ages were crammed(挤满)into one-room schoolhouses with poor books and untrained(未受训练的)teachers. Their books came from England. Noah thought that Americans should learn from American books. So in 1783, Noah wrote his own textbook A Grammatical Institute of the English Language. Most people called it the “Blue Backed Speller” because of its blue cover.
When Noah was 43, he started writing the first American dictionary(词典). He did that because Americans in different parts of the country spelled, pronounced and used words differently. He thought that all Americans should speak in the same way. He also thought that Americans should not speak and spell just like the English. Noah used American spellings like color instead of the English colour and music instead of musick. He also added American words that weren’t in English dictionaries like skunk and squash. He spent over 27 years writing his dictionary. When Noah completed his dictionary in 1828, the first American dictionary came out.
When Noah Webster died in 1843, he was thought to be an American hero.

58.Noah wanted to write the first American dictionary because he thought ________.

The road to the top was so long and the weather was so foggy that it was hard to go on. I had to stop several times to take a small break. Finally, I reached the top with great excitement. Looking around, I could hardly believe my eyes. The mountain was covered in snow and shone like glass in the rising sun. And everything looked wonderful. Looking at the beautiful, natural sights. I felt smaller than an ant. What an amazing feeling!
After climbing the snowy mountain, I visited Lijiang, an old city with a history of about 800 years. When I walked on the stone path, it felt like walking through a long history step by step. Along the way, I noticed that the houses looked old and beautiful. I really love the city and its slow lifestyle.

It was quiet late at night, I was designing a poster alone in my room. When I heard someone knocking on the door, I opened it and saw a young man with glasses standing there. He said that he was a friend of my brother’s. I wanted to have a talk with him. I didn’t know if my brother has such a friend. But I had to let him in.  As we talked, I found that he knew nothing about my brother. Then I came to know that. His words were not true. Suddenly my brother came back home and the young man was so surprised that he didn’t what to do for the moment. We called the man and then call the police.
    17.B    18.A    19.B

    【原文】略
    20.C
    【详解】句意:——你觉得我们昨天一起看的电影怎么样,诺拉?——你是说《长津湖》吗?我从未见过比这更好的。
    考查冠词。“we saw together yesterday”作定语修饰“film”,特指昨天看的那部电影,第一空填定冠词the;第二空处用比较级的否定表达最高级的含义,表示从未看个一个比它更好的,填不定冠词a“一个”。故选C。
    21.A
    【详解】句意:如果你们举手,我会依次回答问题。
    考查副词短语。at a time依次;for the first time第一次;at times有时;from time to time时不时地。根据“If you put up your hands…”可知,你们有问题就举手,我依次回答。故选A。
    22.B
    【详解】句意:——打扰一下,现在轮到我面试了吗?——还没有。请在外面等我们叫你的名字。
    考查连词辨析。so所以;until直到;after在……之后;since自从。根据“Please wait outside…we call your name.”可知,要在外面等着,直到叫名字再进去,用until引导时间状语从句。故选B。
    23.D
    【详解】句意:——我们在校期间必须一直戴口罩吗?——不,你不必。你上体育课的时候可以取下来。
    考查情态动词的用法。问句中用的是must,其否定回答用needn’t或don’t have to,而此处的needn’t的情态动词,不与to连用,故选D。
    24.C
    【详解】句意:——嗨,埃莉!你能告诉我什么时候动身去迪斯尼乐园吗?——当然,明天下午。
    考查疑问词+不定式。此处是“疑问词+不定式”的结构,在句中作宾语。故选C。
    25.A
    【详解】句意:你能相信我七年前嫁给了Daniel吗?
    考查一般过去时和形容词短语。married嫁,娶(过去式);got married with错误表达;married to错误表达(形容词married前应有be/get);have been married错误表达(现在完成时,此时形容词married后应有to)。根据“Can you believe that I...Daniel about 7 years ago?”可知,此句中可用marry sb.“嫁给某人/与某人结婚”,且从句是一般过去时,此时动词marry用过去式married。故选A。
    26.B
    【详解】句意:——Ron,你介意我弹钢琴吗?——当然不会。请你想怎么做就怎么做吧。
    考查非谓语动词和情景交际。It’OK没关系;Of course not当然不会;Of course当然;Never mind不要紧,没关系。would you mind doing sth表示“你介意做某事吗”,是固定短语。可排除AD选项;根据回答“Do it as you like, please.”,可知并不介意对方弹钢琴这事,可用“Of course not”来回答。故选B。
    27.A
    【详解】句意:——亚历克斯在哪里?我已经好几个星期没见到他了。——恐怕他已经去澳大利亚度假了。他以前去过那里两次。
    考查现在完成时。has gone to去了(还没回来);has been to(以前)去过;has been in停留在……。根据“I haven’t seen him for a few weeks.”可知,Alex去澳大利亚了,还没回来,第一空用has gone to,排除B和C;地点副词there前面不用to,故选A。
    28.C
    【详解】句意:——2022年北京冬奥会什么时候结束?——它已经结束了将近两个月。
