Born blind is unfortunate in any case. But things were even harder for Srikanth Bolla who was born in a small village in India, where the common belief was that kids with disabilities were “of no use” and therefore, better off dead. Fortunately, Srikanth's parents loved their son and refused to give him up. Instead, they encouraged the blind boy to dream big and reach for the stars.
Srikanth did not disappoint his parents. The now twenty-four-year-old man is the founder and CEO of Bollant Industries.
Of course, getting here was not easy. Being both blind and poor meant that Srikanth had to face hard challenges. As a young boy, Srikanth attended a regular school near his home. Unfortunately, the students and teachers didn't quite like him because of his disability. As a result, the young boy was largely ignored and often spent the entire day alone.
Concerned this would hold back Srikanth's development, his family decided to send him to a special school in Hyderabad. Sure enough, the young boy soon rose to the top of his class, earning awards in speech and debate competitions. But Srikanth was prevented from studying science when he reached 10th grade, because it was thought too dangerous for a blind student. Not wanting to give up, Sriksanth took legal action and became the first blind student in the country allowed to study science.
Later, after graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Srikanth set up Bollant Industries in 2012. For just four years, it has become a powerhouse with over 450 employees,70% of whom are physically challenged.
Being disabled doesn't mean being unable. “If the world looks at me and says 'Srikanth, you can do nothing’, I will look back at the world and say I can do anything,” says the young man. 24.What made little Srikanth live?
A.His luck.
C.A wonderful dream.
B.His parents' love.
D.A village's common belief.
25.How did Srikanth's family deal with his challenges in the regular school?
A.By letting the child bear them.
B.By moving to another place.
C.By sending him to a special school.
D.By complaining to relevant departments.
26.Why was Srikanth refused to study science at first?
A. He was too young to study it.
B.He was disliked by his teachers.
C.It was illegal for him to do so.
D.It was considered unsafe for the blind man.
27.What kind of person is Srikanth?
A. Determined.
B.Dishonest.
C.Outspoken.
D.Impatient.

People perform graceful moves, all while standing on a bamboo strip in the river. You may think it's a scene from an art movie, but actually it is a form of intangible cultural heritage: bamboo drifting(独竹漂).
Bamboo drifting dated back to over 2,000 years ago in the Chishui River area of Guizhou. During the Qin Dynasty, the Bozhou district of Zunyi city was known for its high-quality nanmu. It was in great demand by the royal court more than 2,000 kilometers to the north. With no transportation along the Chishui River, people had to stand on one log(原木)to drift down the river. Later, local people began to compete along the way and the game of wood drifting was born. In the Qing Dynasty, wood drifting became bamboo drifting because of bamboo's lower price.
Now, communities in Guizhou hold bamboo drifting competitions every year during Dragon Boat Festival. Due to the great strength and balance it takes for one to get the hang of this act, bamboo drifting was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
Yang Liu,24,is an inheritor(继承人) of bamboo drifting. Yang said the most challenging part of bamboo drifting was keeping one's balance. “I fell in the water several times when I was practising,” she said.
But the love for the ancient skill keeps Yang going. In the past 17 years, she has drifted all year round, in winter cold and summer heat.
Yang also produces new ideas when spreading the culture of bamboo drifting. For example, she connects dance with bamboo drifting to make it more graceful and wears hanfu when performing, creating a beautiful feel. In 2020, Yang registered on social media platforms and posted her videos. “I want to spread it to other countries so that more people around the world will like Chinese culture,” she told China Daily.
28.Why did bamboo drifting replace wood drifting?
A.The bamboo was cheaper.
B.The bamboo was more beautiful.
C.The bamboo was more convenient.
D.The bamboo was much easier to control.
29.What does the underlined phrase “get the hang of" in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Prepare.
B. Change.
C.Master.
D.Improve.
30. What is the most difficult for bamboo drifting in Yang Liu's opinion?
A.Designing moves.
C.Choosing bamboos.
B.Transporting goods.
D.Keeping balance.
31.What can we infer about Yang Liu?
A.She inherits bamboo drifting creatively.
B.She learned bamboo drifting very easily.
C.She has become the leader of bamboo drifting.
D.She began learning bamboo drifting at 17.

Hidden in the trees, behind the leaves, look closely and you'll see eyes staring back at you. This is SlothBot, a robot inspired by the famously slow animal-sloth(树獭).
For the next several months, visitors to the Atlanta Botanical Garden will be able to observe the testing of the new high-tech tool in the battle to save some of the world's most endangered species. Researchers are testing the SlothBot near the Garden's popular Canopy Walk.
Built to take advantage of the low-energy lifestyle of real sloths, SlothBot demonstrates how being slow can be ideal for certain applications. Powered by solar panels and using innovative power management technology, SlothBot moves along a cable strung between two large trees as it monitors temperature, weather, carbon dioxide levels, and other information in the Garden's 30-acre midtown Atlanta forest.
“Slowness is a design principle of SlothBot,” says Magnus Egerstedt, professor and chair in the Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “That is not how robots are typically designed today, but being slow and energy-efficient will allow SlothBot to stay in the environment to observe things we can only see by being present continuously for months, or even years.”
About three feet long, SlothBot's imaginative 3D-printed shell helps protect its motors, gearing, batteries and sensing equipment from the weather. The robot is programmed to move only when necessary, and will locate sunlight when its batteries need recharging.
“The most exciting goal we'll demonstrate with SlothBot is the union of robotics and technology with conservation,” says Emily Coffey, vice president for conservation and research at the Garden. “We do conservation research on endangered plants and ecosystems around the world, and SlothBot will help us find new and exciting ways to advance our research and conservation goals.”
“SlothBot could do some of our research remotely and help us understand what's happening with pollinators(传粉者),interactions between plants and animals, and other phenomena that are difficult to observe otherwise," Coffey adds.
32.What do the researchers expect SlothBot to do?
A.Guard the garden.
B.Attract visitors.
C.Protect real sloths.
D.Help endangered species.
C.Protect real sloths.
33. What does the underlined word “That" in paragraph 4 probably refer to?
A.SlothBot.
B.Slowness
C. A design principle.
D.A low-energy style.
C. A design principle.
34.What can we know about SlothBot?
A.It always stays still.
C.Its shell provides protection for itself.
B. It can pollinate the plants.
D.Its design will be used to study the ocean.
35.What may be the best title for the text?
A.A Slow-moving Sloth Begins Life in a Garden

For my fourteenth birthday, my mom offered to take me and several friends to the city nearest our small town to visit a mall, go shopping, eat pizza and then watch a movie. All the friends I'd invited showed up except Nora. I felt confused and angry.
So, as soon as I returned to my house, I gave her a call. “It's my birthday! You're not coming, and you didn't even let me know. What kind of friend are you? How could you do this to me?”
Then Nora explained she had to stay at home because she had gotten sick. “OK, so you're sick... But how was I supposed to know if you didn't tell me?” I answered. It only grew worse from there, and Nora cried as we hung up the phone moments later. Immediately, her mother called back. Angrily, she told me how much I'd hurt her daughter, how much Nora had wanted to join us, and that she had been the one to change Nora's plan. Still thinking only of myself, I ended the call with Nora's mom and still felt angry.
At school on Monday, I found it easy to avoid Nora since she and I had no classes together. For the rest of the school year, we hardly spoke.
The next year I entered a senior high school, with twice as many students as my junior high school. I made some new friends and kept 'some old ones. But my friendship with Nora had been in the past.
Years later-just over twenty, to be specific-I discovered Facebook had suggested Nora as an online friend. We'd attended the same school and had many Facebook friends in common; it made sense. So, I reached out and sent the friend request. Nora accepted.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
After several days of polite online communication, I began to reflect on that phone conversation with Nora years ago.
Immediately, she responded with a message of her heartfelt forgiveness.
