As the total sitting time increases, so does the risk of early death.
“Sit less, move more” is what the Heart Association encourages us to do. ___44___ It is like telling someone to just ”exercise“ without telling them how. Exercise guidelines are always more practical. For example, the Center for Disease Control recommends adults do exercise for two hours and 30 minutes every week, plus muscle strengthening activities two or more days a week. We need similar guidelines for sitting.
___45___ “It would probably be like, for every 30 continuous minutes of sitting, stand up and move or walk for five minutes at a quick pace,” Diaz, the lead researcher said, adding that the study has put us a step closer to the satisfying guidelines. But only 23% of adults aged 18+ meet the recommended guidelines for the regular workout. ____56____ Surveying more than 30,000 participants, a study found that Americans only have an average of more than five hours of free time per day.
When you’re considering starting a workout plan, one of the biggest questions is. “When is the best time to exercise?” Most people are fairly regimented(严格规划的)and protective of when they exercise. Choosing to exercise in the morning or evening is often a product of a work schedule or childcare responsibilities. ____57____
But is there any science to support working out in the morning against working out in the evening? ____58____ This was a relatively small study that collected data from 27 women and 20 men who were already highly active with a regular exercise plan. ____59____ They did one of four different exercise routines-stretching, resistance training, short-distance running or endurance training—four times a week for one hour each time. One group did the routine between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. and the other group between 6 and 8 p.m. For the group who exercised in the morning, women had a 7% greater loss of stomach fat and greater leg strength. Why does a mosquito bite itch?
When a mosquito bites you, it pierces the skin using a special mouthpart to suck up blood and injects saliva (唾液) into your skin. Mosquitoes’ saliva has lots of proteins in it, some of which our body recognizes as foreign, and our immune cells spring into action to try to fight them. ____62____ . It’s actually the body’s response to the foreign mosquito protein it is trying to fight. That’s why some people may only have a mild reaction to bites, while others, more sensitive to the foreign protein, react with large areas of swelling that are more painful.
What helps resist the urge to scratch?
“Don’t scratch” is the advice that most experts and health professionals give. As hard and sometimes unrealistic as it can sound, scratching inflames (发炎) the skin, and the inflammation makes the skin itch more. “ ____63____ ,” warned Daniel Markowski, technical adviser for the American Mosquito Control Association, adding that in extreme cases, people can scar themselves.
Instead, there are dozens of creams and sprays that promise itch relief as well as home remedy (疗法). Choose what’s right for you can often come down to trial and error. In general, all of the various anti-itch creams are very similar. There is no scientific evidence these remedies work, and they can come with their own precautions or side effects. ____64____ .
    ____65____
Some people can have serious allergic reactions to mosquitoes, although in practice it is rare, Vosshall said. If you experience severe symptoms such as breathing trouble, you should seek medical attention immediately.

Including children in the farming lifestyle has many benefits. Sure, it is nice to have the additional help with chores (家庭杂务), but it also fosters so much growth, sending our kids down a good path towards who they will someday become. It is possible that our children will grow up to lead lives that do not include farming. ___71___
Through caring for farm animals, kids learn that in life others often come before self. ___72___ It doesn’t matter if we don’t feel like it or if we are sick and tired. What matters is that we take care of the animals that take care of us and do so in a timely manner.
___73___ If the work on a farm does not get done, the operation fails. It takes discipline and commitment to get down to business every day, and seeing this in action will give kids a good work attitude. They will know and understand that nothing good comes easy and that they have to work to survive. ___74___ Functioning as part of a productive team will surely be playing a crucial role sooner or later in all walks of life.
Additionally, farming teaches patience. ___75___ Cattle will be difficult to control. Horses will run away when you try to catch them. Goats will kick over that bucket of hard-earned milk. A rooster will decide you got too close to his hens and give you a run for your money. In spite of all that, kids will learn to be patient and take things easy.
There may not be any instant reward, but in the long term kids will see the benefit of all their efforts during those hard days.
A.At the same time, they learn to work with others.
B.Farm life also teaches kids the value of hard work.
C.Teamwork is an important skill to develop and use.

Why do women always feel cold?
The “correct” temperature to be set often forms the basis of office arguments between women and men. Between the sexes, there are always more similarities than differences. ____76____ Is there any science backing up the widespread belief that women “feel the cold ”more than men?
Biological differences between men and women
At around the same body weight, women tend to have less muscle to generate heat. ____77____Thus, the skin feels colder, as it’s slightly further away from blood vessels(血管).
Women also tend to have a lower metabolic rate than men, which reduces heat production capacity during cold exposure, making women more likely to feel cold as the temperature drops.
    Hormonal differences
The hormones oestrogen(雌激素) and progesterone(黄体素) are found in large quantities in women. ___78___ Oestrogen enlarges blood vessels at the extremities, meaning more heat can be lost to the surrounding air. And progestcrone can cause the vessels in the skin to tighten, meaning less blood will flow to keep the internal organs warmer, leaving women feeling cooler.
    Is it just humans?
____79____ Studies on many species of birds and mammals report that males commonly gather in cooler areas where there is shade, while females and offspring stay in warmer environments where there is sunlight, as the young are unable to regulate their own body temperature during some stages. Therefore, the difference between heat- sensing mechanisms may provide an evolutionary advantage.
So how do we agree on the ideal temperature?
In the workplace, personal comfort systems are thermal systems that heat or cool and can be locally positioned in individual work stations such as desktops, chairs, or near the feet and legs. ____80____ These systems provide individualized thermal comfort to meet personal needs without affecting others in the same space.
A.The skin is the first line of defence.
B.They contribute to the core body and skin temperatures.
C.Animals have the same system to regulate body temperature.
D.They also have more fat between the skin and the muscles.
E.The preference for warmer temperatures isn’t unique to humans.

What does travel mean? To Mishana Khot, a US travel lover, travel is “more than just a stamp in your passport — it’s a stamp in your soul”. On the travel website Vagabondish, Khot listed some ways that you will change after taking a trip. Now, please take a look.
    Travel shows the big picture.
Khot believes we may lose ourselves in our own lives from time to time. “Sometimes we can’t separate our daily existence from the broader perspective,” she argues. “___81___ It forces you to see your life from the outside.”
    ___82___
When you are on the way, chances are that you will deal with flight delays, slow buses, bad food, horrible accommodation and much more. As Khot pointed out, if there is one constant in a traveler’s life, it is that travel will throw up situations that challenge you. You may have made the most detailed plan, but the next minute something just goes wrong. ____83____
    Travel makes you more grateful.
Whether you travel from a big city to the quiet countryside, or vice versa, there will come a moment when you are grateful for all you have. “When you meet someone with one leg who is hiking up a hill, you will close your eyes for a second and say ‘thank you’.” she said.
Travel helps you overcome your shyness.
During travel, you’ll be forced to communicate with many more people than you used to. ____84____So, just throw away your shyness. That won’t guide you to your destination. Go and communicate with people. ___85___

Maintaining eye contact is one of the most important skills you need to master as a public speaker. ___86___ Instead, you are required to look directly into the camera. ___87___
There is no room for small talks when making an online presentation. ___88___ Ensure that your speech or presentation has a flow that the audience can follow without getting lost. You should also note that audience members are not prohibited from leaving and there’s no social pressure to keep them there. So be sure not to bore them with too many irrelevant stories.
At times, especially during bigger events, there may be many tools and software features that you need to enable to be at your best. ___89___ During such situations, you can talk through the disturbance as you work to get the problem fixed. The audience might be more willing to wait for you as you work on your technical problem, unlike when you decide to just go quiet without letting them know why.
___90___ This is all thanks to the convenience virtual events have brought to us. Nevertheless, you will still need to stay ahead of the trends to boost your online presentation skills.

41.根据下一句“You’re probably sitting while reading this. Sometimes you sit when you are driving or attending a meeting. Other times you sit when you engage yourself in watching a movie or playing computer games. ”可知,作者列举了人们坐着的时候可能做的事情,与选项B中“sitting activities”意思相符,是对它的举例说明。故选B。
42.根据上一句“ The fact is, the amount of time spent sitting has increased over time. ”(事实是随着时间的推移,久坐所花的时间越来越多。),选项E中“ spend 56-86% of their daily time sitting.”
43.上一句“We know sitting too much is bad, and most of us naturally feel a little guilty after a long-time TV watching”(我们知道久坐不好,而且我们中大多数人在长时间看电视后自然而然会感到有些内疚。)提到了久坐有害处;下一句“ A study on nearly 8,000 adults suggests that there’s a direct relationship between the time spent sitting and our risk of early death of any cause.”(一项对近8000个成年人所做的研究表明久坐和早期死亡风险之间是有之间关系的。)
44.上一句中““Sit less, move more””(少坐、多动)是引号引用的句子,根据下文中“Exercise guidelines are always more practical.”可以判断这是指的guideline(指导方针)。 D项(但是这个指导方针太简单和抽象了,而起不了什么作用)与下一句“It is like telling someone to just ”exercise“ without telling them how. ”(它像是只是告诉某人要锻炼,却没说怎么锻炼。)句意有连续性,符合语境。故选D。
45.上一段“It is like telling someone to just ”exercise“ without telling them how. ”提到了第一次给出的指导方针不够具体,存在缺点。下一句““It would probably be like, for every 30 continuous minutes of sitting, stand up and move or walk for five minutes at a quick pace,””中给出了新的比较具体的指导方针。选项C(为了弥补这个缺点,一个研究团队正在从事制定更为具体的指导方针。)

Some strategies, such as exercising and managing weight, are well known.(多达80%的过早的心脏病是可以通过选择特定的生活方式来预防的。 和后文““A small change in your everyday routine can potentially have a big impact in the 1ong run,” says preventive cardiologist (心脏病学家) Dr. Beth Abramson, a spokesperson for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.(加拿大心脏和中风基金会发言人、预防心脏病专家贝丝·艾布拉姆森博士说:“从长远来看,日常生活中的一个小改变可能会产生巨大的影响。”)” B“But others may not have crossed your mind.(但你可能没想过其它的。)”
47.根据前文“If we’re short of sleep, our bodies also have more difficulty controlling blood pressure, inflammation (炎症) and blood sugar levels. (如果我们睡眠不足,我们的身体也更难控制血压、炎症和血糖水平。)”可知,没有充足的睡眠会导致身体健康问题,当然也会对心脏健康产生影响。所以选择项D“These factors can all have an impact on heart and blood health. (这些因素都会对心脏和血液健康产生影响。)”符合上下文语境。故选D。
48.根据本段中心句“Engage in volunteer work.(参加志愿者工作。)”和后文“Research published in Psychosomatic Medicine in 2016 showed that a feeling of purpose in 1ife is linked to a lower likelihood of heart attack and stroke. 'We know that loneliness is a risk factor for heart health,' adds Sharma.   'Volunteering gets you out of the house and creates a social network.'(2016年发表在《心身医学》上的一项研究表明,生活的目标感与心脏病和中风的较低可能性有关。“我们知道孤独是心脏健康的一个风险因素,”沙玛补充说。“志愿活动让你走出家门,建立社交网络。”)”可知,参加志愿者活动,可以减少孤独感,缓解压力,从而预防心脏病的发生。所以选择项G“Doing good for others helps your self-esteem and relieves stress. (为他人做好事可以帮助你提升自尊,缓解压力。)”符合上下文语境。故选G。
49.这里是本段的小标题。根据后文“A recent study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that healthy people who skipped breakfast were almost three times more likely to have heart disease six years later than those who had a substantial morning meal. One possible reason: 'If you’re eating a proper breakfast, you’re less likely to be hungry later and make poor food choices,' says Abramson. (《美国心脏病学会杂志》最近的一项研究发现,不吃早餐的健康人6年后患心脏病的可能性几乎是那些吃丰盛早餐的人的三倍。一个可能的原因是:“如果你吃了一顿合适的早餐,你稍后就不太可能感到饥饿,也不太可能做出糟糕的食物选择,”艾布拉姆松说。)”可知,本段主要介绍吃早餐对心脏的好处。所以选择项A“Eat breakfast. (吃早餐。)”符合上下文语境。故选A。
50.根据前文“We need to eat a balanced diet as part of a healthy lifestyle. (作为健康生活方式的一部分,我们需要均衡饮食。)”可知,这里对均衡饮食作了具体的说明。所以选择项E“Choose whole-grain, low-fat breakfast foods and include fruit. (选择全麦,低脂的早餐,包括水果。)”符合上下文语境。故选E。

76.根据上文“Between the sexes, there are always more similarities than differences.(两性之间的相似点总是多于不同点)”可知,两性之间的相似处点多于差异,下文“Is there any science backing up the widespread belief that women ‘feel the cold’ more than men?(人们普遍认为女性比男性更能‘感受到寒冷’,这一观点有科学依据吗?)”
77.根据本段主题句“Biological differences between men and women(男女之间的生理差异)”可知,此段分析女性的生理机制与男性的差异性而导致她们更怕冷,根据上文“At around the same body weight, women tend to have less muscle to generate heat.(在体重大致相同的情况下,女性产生热量的肌肉往往较少)”及下文“Thus, the skin feels colder, as it’s slightly further away from blood vessels(血管).(因此,皮肤感觉更冷,因为它离血管略远)”推知,空处内容也和皮肤及肌肉有关,D项“她们的皮肤和肌肉之间也有更多的脂肪”最恰当,选项中的they指代上文提到的women。故选D项。
78.通过后文“Oestrogen enlarges blood vessels at the extremities, meaning more heat can be lost to the surrounding air. And progestcrone can cause the vessels in the skin to tighten, meaning less blood will flow to keep the internal organs warmer, leaving women feeling cooler.(雌激素会使四肢的血管扩张,这意味着更多的热量会流失到周围的空气中。
79.通过下一句“Studies on many species of birds and mammals report that males commonly gather in cooler areas where there is shade, while females and offspring stay in warmer environments where there is sunlight, as the young are unable to regulate their own body temperature during some stages.(对许多种类的鸟类和哺乳动物的研究报告称,雄性通常聚集在阴凉的凉爽地区,而雌性和后代则呆在阳光充足的温暖环境中,因为幼雏在某些阶段无法调节自己的体温)”提到动物界雄性喜欢更凉爽的地方而雌性喜欢更温暖的地方可知,两性之间对温度偏好的差异性不仅仅局限于人类身上,动物界也有相似的例子,E项“对温暖温度的偏好并非人类所独有”符合语境。故选E项。
80.通过上一句“In the workplace, personal comfort systems are thermal systems that heat or cool and can be locally positioned in individual work stations such as desktops, chairs, or near the feet and legs.(在工作场所,个人舒适系统是加热或冷却的热系统,可以局部放置在单独的工作站上,如桌面、椅子或脚和腿附近)”提到在办公场所可以根据个人需要放置取暖设备可知,空处接着举例说明可以用哪些设备,F项“例如桌扇、加热椅或暖脚器”符合语境,且呼应下一句中的“These systems”。

该段下文“If they are crying, tell them “You look sad” or “It looks like you are mad right now.” This way you can reflect their emotions to them with words and help them understand and express their emotions too.”(如果他们在哭,告诉他们“你看起来很伤心”或“你现在看起来很生气。” Define and put into words your children’s emotions.(定义孩子的情绪,并用语言表达出来。)
上文“Approve your children's feelings. Instead of saying “Stop shouting and calm down, it's not a big deal” try to say “I know you are really angry right now but we can talk about it.””(认可孩子的感受。 This way you can show them that it’s sometimes okay to have big feelings.(这样你就可以告诉他们,有时候有强烈的感情是可以接受的。)同样是表达承认孩子情绪的意思,符合语义。故选E项。
98.上文“Give your kid some space and let them experience uncomfortable feelings. Everyone feels alone or bored sometimes.”(给你的孩子一些空间,让他们体验不舒服的感觉。每个人都有感到孤独或无聊的时候。)说明每个人都有困境的时候。下文“This will help them tolerate disturbing feelings and situations going forward.”(这将帮助他们容忍令人不安的感觉和情况。) Teach them how to handle those feelings instead of avoiding them.(教他们如何处理这些情绪,而不是逃避它们。)
99.下文“Teach your children that the feeling is normal, but they shouldn’t be screaming loudly in a public area just because they are feeling an emotion as this may make other people uncomfortable.”(告诉你的孩子这种感觉是正常的,但他们不应该仅仅因为他们有某种情绪就在公共场所大声尖叫,因为这可能会让其他人感到不舒服。) However, it is never acceptable to show aggressive behaviors.(然而,表现出攻击性的行为是绝对不能接受的。)
下文“Scientific educational brain games apps developed by academicians like those at MentaIUP are reliable and beneficial sources to improve cognitive skills.”(由像MentaIUP这样的学者开发的科学益智游戏应用程序是提高认知技能的可靠和有益的来源。) Improving mathematical and problem-solving skills will also support children's social emotional development.(提高数学和解决问题的能力也将支持孩子的社会情感发展。)
