According to a new study in the online PLOS ONE, people make their decisions to trust others largely based on their faces. Your appearance can do a lot for you, especially if you are in the financial industry. The more trustworthy you look, the more likely people will buy what you’re selling.
Researchers from Britain’s University of Warwick Business School, University College London, and Dartmouth College, US, did a number of experiments. The research team used computer software to make 40 faces, from the least to the most trustworthy-looking. The study said that the difference between a trustworthy face and one that isn’t as trustworthy comes from features that look slightly (稍微) angry or slightly happy, even when the face is at rest. However, a slightly happy face is more likely to be trusted.
Researchers gave participants some money and asked them which face they trusted to invest (投资) the money for them. Then researchers gave some good and bad information about the people with these faces, and asked the participants again whom they trusted. The results showed that even if they got different information, the participants didn’t change their choices. They were still more likely to invest their money with the more trustworthy-looking faces.
Chris Olivola, one of the study’s authors, said in the University of Warwick’s press release: “It seems we are still willing to go with our feelings about whether we think someone looks like that we can trust them. The desire to judge strangers by their faces is hard to resist.”
1.According to the study, which of the following faces is most likely to be trusted?
A.A sad face. B.A smiling face. C.A crying face. D.An angry face.
2.Which of the following about the experiment is TRUE?
A.The trustworthy faces were given good information.
B.Researchers took photos of the 40 people’s faces in college.
C.Participants liked to choose the faces with good information.
D.Most participants gave their money to the trustworthy-looking faces.
3.What did the researchers learn from their experiment?
A.People don’t trust strangers with sad faces.
B.People often judge strangers by their faces.
C.People prefer good-looking faces to money.
D.People can’t rely on background information to judge others.
4.Which of the following can be a proper title for this passage?
A.Who did the Experiments? B.What Kind of Face do You Trust?
C.Why do You Trust Him or Her? D.Why did They do the Experiments?

When most of us think of sand, we immediately think of sunny beaches and summer holidays. But actually it’s in pretty much everything that surrounds us in our everyday lives, from the walls of our homes to the glass bottles in out kitchens and even the mobile phones in our hands. Sand is the second most used resource in the world after water: it accounts for more than two-thirds of everything that’s being dug out of the ground. But there isn’t a limitless supply. In fact, a UN report says we might be running out.
According to the report, we use an estimated 15 billion tons of sand every year in the construction industry alone. That’s enough to build a 20m×20m wall around the equator (赤道) every year. However, sand can take tens of thousands of years to form (形成): the process starts with rock being eroded (侵蚀) in the mountains and ends, eventually, with sand being in river beds, on beaches and on the seafloor.
Sand is heavy and difficult to transport, so in developing countries, sand is often mined from the nearest convenient source, and quite often that means a river bed or beach. But beaches and rivers are delicately balanced ecosystems and when a large amount of sand is removed, the balance is upset. The smallest fish, which eat organic matter on the sand in river beds, form the base of the food chain in a river. If this sand is removed, so is the source of food for the bottom feeders. All organisms in a food chain share the joys and the sorrows. Thus, when they disappear, so does the food for the larger fish which would have been caught and eaten, or sold by fishermen.
It is high time we took into consideration the big problem concerning the tiny thing. More and more conservationists are calling for new choices to replace sand, especially in the construction industry.
8.Why are the things in our daily life mentioned in the beginning?
A.To show the uses of sand. B.To show our relationship with nature.
C.To introduce our lifestyles. D.To stress the convenience of modern life.
9.What does the UN report suggest?
A.Sand is actually our most used natural resource.
B.Sand is used more quickly than it’s formed.
C.The construction industry doesn’t use sand wisely.
D.The problem of wasting sand is worsening.
10.Whose basic source of food will be strongly influenced if sand is removed?
    A.The river beds. B.The fishermen.
C.The larger fish. D.The smallest fish.
11.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.The World Is Running Out of Sand
B.Alternatives to Sand Will Be Found Soon
C.Sand Mining Is Unfriendly to Nature
D.Sand Is in Need of Immediate Preservation

Faced with a decreasing population and shrinking workforce, Japan has been increasingly turning to robots for help. Over the years, the robots have been used to perform a large number of human tasks, including building products and providing care and companionship for the elderly. The latest addition to the Japanese “workforce” may be Model-T. This seven-foot-tall robot is recently practising restocking sandwiches, drinks, and ready meals on shelves at a number of locations of local convenience store chains Lawson and FamilyMart.
Model-T, whose face is slightly like that of a kangaroo, is certainly not the first restocking robot. However, the warehouse robots now being used by companies like Walmart and Amazon are only able to accomplish single, repetitive tasks, such as put the boxes in a line. Model-T, on the other hand, has a wide range of movement and can be used to restock objects of various sizes, making it ideal for convenience and grocery stores, which sell a large variety of items.
Named after the classic Ford Motor car that began the era of mass motoring a century ago, Model-T is not autonomous(自动的). Instead, it is operated by human “pilots” wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset and special gloves, which allow them to feel the product the robot is holding in their hands and guide it to the right shelf. Since the video connection between the robot and the human operator has a 50 millisecondsˈ delay, the navigation process is very smooth. Telexistence Inc., the company behind Model-T, says the VR-controlled robots are easier to develop. They are also ten times cheaper than autonomous robots, which require complex programming.
Model-Tˈs easy-to-use controls require little training and can be operated from a remote location. This ability will enable the chain stores to get new employees who would typically not work in stores. “There are about 1.6 million people in Japan who, for various reasons, are not active in the workforce,” Kano, a general manager at FamilyMart, told Japan Times.
12.What does the underlined word “restocking” in the first paragraph probably mean?
    A.making B.selling C.protecting D.replacing
13.What makes the Model-T robot special among restocking robots?
A.It is first produced by Japanese scientists. B.It is named after the Ford Motor car.
C.It is able to perform various different tasks. D.It requires complex programming.
14.Which word best describe the authorˈs attitude towards the Model-T robot?
    A.Doubtful. B.Supportive. C.Patient. D.Negative.
15.Whatˈs the main purpose of the text?
    A.To introduce Japan’s future working robot: Model-T.
B.To attract more companies to employ Model-T.
C.To show peopleˈs opinions of Model-T.
D.To show how Model-T helps solve social problems.

Just when you thought you were taking care of your health by eating enough fruit and vegetables every day, new research has come out revealing that you might be swallowing microplastic particles (颗粒) along with all those vitamins, minerals, and fiber. A groundbreaking study published in the journal Environmental Research has found that fruits and vegetables absorb microplastic particles from the soil and move them through vegetal tissues, where they remain until eaten by hungry diners, thus getting transferred to human bodies.
The researchers, who are from the University of Catania in Italy, as well as Sousse and Monastir universities in Tunisia, analyzed a variety of common fruits and vegetables — carrots, lettuce, broccoli, potatoes, apples, and pears. These were chosen for the fact that they are frequently consumed, usually one per day, which allowed the researchers to better assess the dietary intakes of MPs (microplastic particles) and NPs (nano-plastics). The samples were purchased from different sources in the city of Catania, including a small fruit vendor and a supermarket.
The researchers found that apples, followed by pears, were the most polluted fruit samples, and carrots were the most polluted vegetable. In the study’s discussion section, the authors wrote, “We can assume that the fruits contain more MPs not only because of the very high vascularization (血管化) of the fruit pulp (果肉) but also due to the greater size and complexity of the root system and age of the tree (several years) compared to the vegetables (60–75 days for the carrot).”
This study is important because it’s the first to detect microplastics in fruits and vegetables. They have been found in other sources before, such as sea salt, beer, water (bottled, in particular), shellfish, sugar, soil, and even air, but never inside fresh produce. It’s an alarming discovery that raises yet another red flag about microplastic pollution in the natural environment.
It’s an area that will likely see a lot more attention in coming years, with the study authors calling for further research into the question of microplastic and whether it harms the health of both plants and humans.
16.What is the study mainly about?
A.The main cause of soil pollution.
B.The great changes in people’s diets.
C.The benefits of eating fruits and vegetables.
D.The microplastic pollution in fruits and vegetables.
17.What may cause fruits to contain more MPs according to the authors?
    A.The age of humans.
B.The great size of fruit tree roots.
    C.The complex preservation method.
D.The large amounts of the fruit pulp.
18.What makes the study quite special?
A.It showed the influences of MPs on plants.
B.It proved the source of microplastic pollution.
C.It presented the danger of MPs to human’s body.
D.It discovered MPs in fresh produce for the first time.
19.What do the study authors think of the research on microplastic?
A.It needs to be further studied.
B.It wasted them quite a lot of time.
C.It has raised people’s awareness of health.
D.It has attracted people’s attention to diets.

Sixth formers are to be quizzed on whether they can cook five hot meals and how often they should change their sheets, as part of a government-backed scheme(计划)to prepare them for university.
Ministers are urging schools to put on special workshops for students aged 16-18 to ensure they feel comfortable with the prospect of leaving home. The course, designed by the university accommodation provider Unite Students, will teach pupils how to manage their finances and how to live independently.
According to the course materials, teachers should ask students questions which may not have occurred to them, such as “what is the price of a liter of milk?” and “list 5 hot meals you can cook from scratch” and “how often will you wash your sheets once you move out of home?”
Damian Hinds, the Education Secretary, said, “We are all very conscious that moving away from home and going to university is one of the most exciting things that happens in your life but it can also be very disappointing.” Mr. Hinds said that when he got to university, he discovered he had “relied on my mum more than I realized I did”, adding, “I wish I could have cooked better.”
Earlier this year, ministers set up a new task force called the Education Transitions Network, which includes representatives from Universities UK, UCAS and the National Union of Students. It is part of a drive by the Department for Education to address the rise in students who report mental health issues during their time at university.
Data released earlier this year showed that the number of students declaring mental health problems on arrival at university has surged. Figures obtained showed a 73 percent rise between 2014-2015 and 2017-2018 in students stating that they had a condition such as depression or anxiety before starting their courses.

Born in 1955 and grew up in Gaomi in east China’s Shandong Province, Mo Yan, who is the first Chinese national to win the Nobel literature award, was awarded the Honorary Fellowship by Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford on Wednesday, in recognition of his contribution to Chinese and world literature.
The college principal Robert Ellis presented the gown to Mo at the ceremony. They uncovered together a new international writing center named after Mo. Two Chinese contemporary writers Su Tong and Yu Hua were invited to work as Writers in Residence for the international writing center.
Mo, well-known for his imaginative and humanistic fiction, was awarded the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature. He is also a professor at Beijing Normal University. He expressed his gratitude to the Oxford college and recalled his love to literature since his childhood. He also told the audience in his speech that he was greatly influenced by William Shakespeare’s masterpieces and would focus on play writing in the following years.
Mo told Xinhua he expects the international writing center in Oxford will further improve China-UK literature cooperation and talent exchange. Ellis told Xinhua that as the college has strengthened its relationships with Beijing Normal University in the last few years, “it is the very right thing to do for somebody in the university not only to honor Mo Yan’s great achievements as a writer, but also we want to recognize him and welcome him into our college community.” “It is a great honor for us to associate him with us and we hope he too will gain from the association with our college,” the principal added. He noted that Regent’s Park College, located at the center of Oxford, had historical ties with China and the newly inaugurated (成立的) Mo Yan International Writing Center is “a very exciting development”.
“We hope to strengthen our cooperation with Beijing Normal University and hope it will train new writers and young people will be motivated,” Ellis said. He believes the interchange between Oxford and Chinese universities will continue to bring advantages to both sides.
“One of the advantages of the relationships is the way to deepen the understandings between people from different cultures and different systems. That is also gained through conversations we have because of the quality writing of Mo Yan. Kindergarten represents a crucial environment in which children develop school-related skills and patterns of engagement. They form the basis for the development of later competence which is important for academic success. As for later academic skills, kindergarten achievements have been found to have great predictive value.
Given the long-lasting effects that kindergarten experiences have on later schooling, it is important to understand the factors associated with children’s learning and motivation during this time. The quality of teacher-student interaction has been found to be important in terms of many different academic and socio-emotional outcomes. However, much of the previous work in the field has focused on children in later grades in elementary school and has been conducted in the United States. Fewer studies have been conducted in other educational environments and in kindergarten specifically.
Some researchers investigated bidirectional links between the quality of teacher-child relationships and children’s interest and pre-academic skills in literacy and math in Finland. Participants were 461 Finnish kindergarteners (6-year-olds) and 48 teachers.
The results suggested that teacher-perceived (教师感知的) conflicts predicted children’s lower pre-academic skills in both literacy and math. It is possible that when children experience conflicts with teachers, the negative emotions attached to these conflicts are harmful to children’s engagement in learning and reduce their interest in academic tasks. It’s also possible that children experiencing conflicts are missing out on time for learning literacy and math, either because they become separated from instructional activities or because teachers have to spend more instructional time on behavioral management.
The findings emphasize the importance of kindergarten teachers being aware of how their relationships with children can influence children’s later schooling. Therefore, it would be important to develop pre-service and in-service programs and interventions to help teachers. Teacher education programs may also benefit teachers not only in academic content and education practices but also in strategies used to build supportive relationships with children.
28.What do we learn about kindergarten achievements?
A.They’re closely related to kids’ personalities.
B.They greatly affect kids’ later academic skills.
C.They enormously depend on the teachers’ competence.
D.They’re mainly about kids’ problem-solving abilities.
29.From Para. 2, we know that the quality of teacher-student interaction in kindergarten ________.
A.has drawn little attention from researchers
B.has been considered very important by teachers
C.has resulted from specific educational environments
D.has formed the basis of many good socio-emotional outcomes
30.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the last paragraph?
A.To promote the educational programs among kindergarten teachers.
B.To explain the benefits of carrying out education practices.
C.To call on kids to build up good relationships with teachers.
D.To stress the importance of kindergarten teachers.
31.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.The significance of developing kids’ school-related skills.
B.The necessity of improving teachers’ academic competence.
C.The ways of reducing teacher-student conflicts in kindergarten.
D.The influence of teacher-student interaction in kindergarten on kids.

All ship suffer from fouling (污垢): the build-up below the waterline of shellfish, seaweeds and other organisms. This causes drag, which slows the affected craft and increases its fuel consumption (消耗). Regular hull (船体) cleaning thus makes a considerable difference to the profitability of shipping. It also results in a useful reduction in the amount of planet-warming carbon dioxide.
Roar Adland, a shipping economist at the Norwegian School of Economics, in Bergen, says that a midsized oil tanker’s fuel consumption drops by around 9% after its hull is cleaned at sea -- something that happens, on average, once every six or seven months. If the cleaning is done in a dry dock (船坞), which allows the process to be more thorough, that figure can be as much as 17%.
At the moment, cleaning at sea is done by teams of divers. In recent years, robots have sometimes been added to underwater cleaning crews. They have proved potent. Jotun, a Norwegian coatings (涂层) company, and Semcon, a Swedish engineering firm, propose, however, to go one step further. They want to replace the divers completely with a machine. That machine, moreover, would not merely help clean a ship’s hull, but stop it fouling up in the first place.
Their invention, HullSkater, is a 200kg robot. It will stay permanently on a ship, ready to be launched whenever the ship is not moving. To use the robot, it is first lowered overboard. Its four magnetic wheels, each of which is fitted with a motor, hold onto the hull and it can start moving around. After this, the ship’s crew need do nothing. The robot is piloted by an operator on land, who may be half a world away. Inspecting and cleaning a hull takes HullSkater between two and eight hours, depending on the size and design of the ship.
The HullSkater approach is not absolutely ideal. Regular cleaning by a robot could wear away some types of antifouling coating. Jotun has, however, developed a special, hard-wearing coating to deal with the problem. HullSkater is now being tested in various parts of the world for rates of fouling depending on local conditions, such as sea temperatures, and the plan is to make it available commercially soon.
35.What will happen when a ship fouls up?
A.Its fuel will be polluted. B.Its coating will come off.
C.Its motors will stop working. D.Its shipping expenses will increase.
36.What does the underlined word “potent” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A.Costly. B.Noisy. C.Effective. D.Complex.
37.What can be learned about HullSkater?
A.It can be operated by people from a distance. B.It keeps working while the ship is sailing.
C.It has one motor weighing around 200kg. D.It can give a hull a thorough clean in an hour.
38.For what purpose has Jotun made an improvement to its products?
A.To make HullSkater more lightweight. B.To adapt to rising sea temperatures.
C.To help a ship travel much father. D.To protect the surface of a hull.

You probably learned in elementary school that counting the rings of a tree trunk is a simple way to measure its history and age. But what if you need to find out how old a live and healthy tree is without calling in an expert?
Cutting it open to determine its age would cause irreversible (不可逆转的) damage to a live tree. But there is one quick way to determine a standing tree’s age and it calls for a bit of math. First use a tape measure to record the circumference (周长) of the tree trunk at roughly 1. 3 meters from the ground. Next, it’s time to determine the tree’s diameter (直径). To do that, divide the tree’s circumference by pi (3. 14). Then, take the diameter and multiply it by the species’ specific growth factor (因子) number. This is where knowing the tree species is vital.
Scientists used their knowledge to uncover growth factors for each tree species. Multiplying the tree’s diameter by the tree’s specific growth factor will give you the tree’s rough age.
Growth factors vary from two to seven and beyond. The growth factors for some of the most common tree species include: red maple: 4. 5, cottonwood: 2, sugar maple: 5. 5, dogwood: 7, and white oak: 5. So let’s take a red maple, which has a growth factor of 4. 5, and assume it has a circumference of 22 inches. To get its age, divide 22 inches by pi to get the tree’s diameter — 7 inches. Now take 7 and multiply that by 4. 5, which is the red maple’s growth factor and you get 31. 5, the rough age of the tree.
This is a simple way to count roughly a tree’s age without threatening the tree’s health, but it doesn’t guarantee 100 percent exactness; growth factors are most exact for trees found in healthy forests. Urban trees face stressors like poor soil or limited growing areas that may affect their overall health and growth.
39.What is the problem with the familiar method of counting a tree’s age?
A.It is not exact. B.It is not suitable for a living tree.
C.It needs the help of an expert. D.It takes too much time.
40.What is important in calculating the age of a live tree?
A.The tree species. B.The growth speed of the tree.
C.The height of the tree. D.The living environment of the tree.
41.What is the age of a sugar maple 6 inches in diameter?
    A.27. B.30. C.33. D.42.

A 9-year-old British schoolgirl, a double amputee (双侧截肢者), is set to make history after she walked the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.
Daisy-May Demetre has been chosen as a model for the French-inspired fashion line Lulu et Gigi Couture after its founder saw her modeling in London. Her appearance at the famous New York Fashion Week on September 8th marked the first time a double amputee had starred in the catwalk. The Birmingham schoolgirl is also set to show herself in Paris Fashion Week.
Daisy-May’s legs were amputated as a result of being born with fibular hemimelia, a birth disease in which part of the fibular bone (腓骨) in the leg is missing.
Her parents, Alex and Claire Demetre, were shocked to know that the child would “have no legs”. Her parents were faced with the predicament of whether to watch Daisy-May grow up with deformed (畸形的) legs that she wouldn’t be able to use or to allow doctors to perform a double amputation. They couldn’t make up their minds. It was not until the average child began to walk and her leg bones began to influence her balance and normal life that her parents decided to choose amputation.
“We didn’t know at the time that Daisy-May would be as good as she is now,” said Alex. “At the time, I isolated (孤立) myself — I had drinking problems. That has all changed — and that’s down to her taking each day with a big smile on her face,” he added. “She told me not to worry and inspired me to be brave.”
Daisy-May’s career has since sky-rocketed in popularity. Alex, meanwhile, says that he couldn’t be prouder of his daughter. “The disability doesn’t stop Daisy-May. She just does Daisy, the way she goes about life with a smile on her face.”
46.What do you know about Daisy-May Demetre?
A.Her first performance on the catwalk didn’t succeed.

A.Alex gave Daisy-May the greatest encouragement.
B.Daisy-May isolated herself after the amputation.
C.Daisy-May is a girl with an optimistic mind.
D.Alex expected Daisy-May to be a model at her young age.

根据第二段的“However, a slightly happy face is more likely to be trusted.(然而,一张略快乐的脸更有可能被信任)”可知,微笑的脸是最值得信任的脸,故选B。
根据第三段的“The results showed that even if they got different information, the participants didn’t change their choices. They were still more likely to invest their money with the more trustworthy-looking faces.(结果显示,即使他们得到不同的信息,参与者也不会改变他们的选择。他们仍然更有可能把钱投资在更值得信赖的面孔上)”可知,我们从试验中可以得知,绝大多数参与者把钱给了更值得信赖的面孔。故选D。
3.细节理解题。根据最后一段的“The desire to judge strangers by their faces is hard to resist.(通过陌生人的面孔来评判他们的欲望很难抗拒)”可知,人们往往会看脸来判断陌生人。故选B。
根据第一段“According to a new study in the online PLOS One, people make their decisions to trust others largely based on their faces.(根据在线PLOS One的一项最新研究可知,人们在很大程度上是根据他们的面孔来决定是否信任他人)”并结合下文通过一些试验来证明这个说法可知,本文主要讲述人们往往会通过看脸来判断陌生人。由此可知,B项“What Kind of Face do You Trust?(你信任什么样的脸?)”

根据文章“Gotham Greens(哥谭镇蔬菜)”部分中的“It is using high-tech greenhouses with solar panels to make sure the food grown is healthy and sustainable.(该公司正在使用带有太阳能电池板的高科技温室,以确保种植的食物是健康和可持续的。)”
根据文章“Baltimore Urban Gardening with Students(巴尔的摩城市园艺与学生)”部分中的“Many of these kids don’t have access to green spaces, and have never had the opportunity to grow food.(这些孩子中的许多人没有机会接触绿色空间,也从来没有机会种植食物。)”
根据文章第一段“Urban gardens are valuable assets to communities. They provide green spaces to grow sustainable food, build community unity, make new friends, connect with the earth, and much more.(城市花园是社区的宝贵资产。

根据第一段中“When most of us think of sand, we immediately think of sunny beaches and summer holidays. But actually it’s in pretty much everything that surrounds us in our everyday lives, from the walls of our homes to the glass bottles in out kitchens and even the mobile phones in our hands. Sand is the second most used resource in the world after water”(当我们大多数人想到沙子时,我们会立即想到阳光明媚的海滩和暑假。 故选A。
根据第二段中“According to the report, we use an estimated 15 billion tons of sand every year in the construction industry alone. That’s enough to build a 20m×20m wall around the equator (赤道) every year. However, sand can take tens of thousands of years to form (形成)”(根据该报告,我们每年仅在建筑行业就使用150亿吨沙子。这足够每年在赤道周围建一堵20m×20m墙了。然而,沙子的形成需要数万年的时间)可推知,联合国的报告表明沙子被使用的速度比它形成的速度要快。故选B。
10.细节理解题。根据第三段中“The smallest fish, which eat organic matter on the sand in river beds, form the base of the food chain in a river. If this sand is removed, so is the source of food for the bottom feeders.”(最小的鱼以河床沙子上的有机物为食,构成了河流食物链的基础。
故选A。

根据第二段第二、三句“However, the warehouse robots now being used by companies like Walmart and Amazon are only able to accomplish single, repetitive tasks, such as put the boxes in a line. Model-T, on the other hand, has a wide range of movement and can be used to restock objects of various sizes, making it ideal for convenience and grocery stores, which sell a large variety of items.(然而,沃尔玛和亚马逊等公司现在使用的仓库机器人只能完成单一的、重复的任务,例如将盒子排成一行。另一方面,T型机器人具有广泛的移动范围,可以用于补充各种大小的物品,使其非常适合于销售各种物品的便利店和杂货店。)”可知,相对于其他只能完成单一任务的机器人,T型机器人能完成多种复杂的任务。故选C项。
14.推理判断题。根据最后一段第一句“Model-Tˈs easy-to-use controls require little training and can be operated from a remote location. This ability will enable the chain stores to get new employees who would typically not work in stores.( T型机器人易于使用的控制需要很少的培训,可以从远程位置操作。这种能力将使连锁商店能够获得通常不会在商店工作的新员工。)”可知T型机器人易于操作,还能吸引新员工,所以作者对它持有积极、支持的态度。故选B项。
15.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段第一句“Faced with a decreasing population and shrinking workforce, Japan has been increasingly turning to robots for help. (面对人口减少和劳动力不足的局面,日本越来越多地求助于机器人。)”和第三句“The latest addition to the Japanese “workforce” may be Model-T.( 日本“劳动力”的最新成员可能是T型机器人。)” 故选A项。

根据文章第三段中“We can assume that the fruits contain more MPs not only because of the very high vascularization (血管化) of the fruit pulp (果肉) but also due to the greater size and complexity of the root system and age of the tree (several years) compared to the vegetables (60–75 days for the carrot).(我们可以假设,与蔬菜(胡萝卜60-75天)相比,水果含有更多的MPs,不仅是因为果肉的血管化程度非常高,还因为根系的大小和复杂性以及树的年龄(几年)更大)”可知,果树根系的巨大尺寸是导致水果含有更多的微塑料颗粒的原因之一。故选B。
根据文章第四段中“This study is important because it’s the first to detect microplastics in fruits and vegetables. (这项研究很重要,因为它是第一次在水果和蔬菜中检测到微塑料)”可知,这项研究很特别,因为它是首次在新鲜的水果和蔬菜等农产品中检测到微塑料颗粒。故选D。
19.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中“It’s an area that will likely see a lot more attention in coming years, with the study authors calling for further research into the question of microplastic and whether it harms the health of both plants and humans.(这是一个未来几年可能会受到更多关注的领域,该项研究的撰稿人呼吁对微塑料问题及其是否危害植物和人类健康进行进一步研究)”可推知,该项研究的作者认为还需要对微塑料颗粒造成的危害作进一步研究。故选A。
