An apology can achieve great things for both the givers and the receivers although nobody likes to admit that they were wrong.
An apology is crucial to our physical health. When we acknowledge that we are wrongdoers and express our guilt to others, we will free ourselves from the uncomfortable state. This act feels like a weight on us has been lifted. ____1____ Research showed that heart rate, sweat levels and facial tension decreased in victims of wrongs even when they simply imagined receiving an apology.
Apologizing affects us not just physically, but also mentally. ____2____ When presented with an apology, the victims may view us as imperfect human beings and find it easier to give forgiveness. In a powerful piece in Psychology Today, writer Beverly Engel described how a simple “I’m sorry” from her mother, after being estranged from each other for three years, made her relieved emotionally. But let’s be real, apologizing can be difficult.
____3____ We should recognize our action did hurt someone even if our intention may not have been so. Instead of making excuses for what we did, try to bear responsibility and offer a promise to take action so that we will not repeat the behavior in future. ____4____
Of course, the most effective apologies often bring a cost to our dignity, since we have to admit that we are wrong in front of others or many people. ____5____ As is known, it is one of the most positive actions we can take when we do something wrong—for ourselves, the others, and the relationship. So, go ahead, apologize a little more often for the things worth apologizing for.
A.There are agreed-upon ways to express our apology to others.
B.It’s a way of showing the price we paid for the wronged action.
C.A good apology affects the health of those on the receiving end, too.
D.But this can often be minor compared to the benefits of a proper apology.
E.This means we should take the blame and not try to justify it or explain it away.
F.Apologize for what you did rather than what other people might have thought about it.
G.It has the ability to disarm others of their anger and to prevent further misunderstandings.

Do you know what a resolution is? ____6____ Most of the time, we make promises to other people—“Mom, I promise I’m going to tidy my room when I get back from school”.
However, promises you make to yourself are resolutions, and the most common kind is New Year’s resolutions. The start of the year is often a time for making resolutions. When we make resolutions at the beginning of the year, we hope that we are going to improve our lives. ____7____ This helps them to remember their resolutions. Others tell their family and friends about their wishes and plans.
There are different kinds of resolutions. Some are about physical health. For example, some people promise themselves they are going to start an exercise program or eat less fast food. ____8____ These are about making yourself a better person. Some people might say they are going to take up a hobby like painting or taking photos, or learn to play the guitar. Some resolutions have to do with better planning, like making a weekly plan for schoolwork. ____9____
Although there are differences, most resolutions have one thing in common. People hardly ever keep them! There are good reasons for this. Sometimes the resolutions may be too difficult to keep. Sometimes people just forget about them. For this reason, some people say the best resolution is to have no resolutions! ____10____
    A.It’s a kind of promise.
B.How about you—will you make any next year?
C.Many resolutions have to do with self-improvement.
D.For example, a student may have to find more time to study.
E.Do you know how to stick to your resolution as long as possible?
F.A New Year’s resolution is the goal that is set at the start of a new year.
G.Some people write down their resolutions and plans for the coming year.

In principle, it sounds simple: eat less and move more. ____11____ Yet, despite all the calorie counting, dieting and exercising, worldwide obesity (肥胖) rates just keep speeding up. People in the US were heavier in 2021 than they were in 2020, placing many more people at risk from serious diseases.
So why hasn’t this approach to weight control worked? One possibility is that we haven’t tried hard enough. ____12____ Or perhaps the problem is the focus on “calorie balance” itself. In a recent paper, my colleagues and I question the basic assumption of whether taking in more calories than you burn really is the chief cause of obesity. We argue that the evidence actually points the other way: we are driven to overeat because we are getting fatter.
____13____ As their growth rate speeds up, teenagers may eat hundreds of calories more each day than they used to. Does this “overeating” cause the rapid growth? Or does the rapid growth, which requires more calories to build new body tissues, make teenagers hungrier so they eat more? Clearly the latter, as adults won’t grow taller, no matter how much they eat.
The key to how this works in obesity is hormones (激素), especially the fat-storage hormone. Processed, rapidly digestible high-carbon foods like potato chips and sugary drinks raise our hormone level too high. ____14____ A few hours after eating a high-carbon meal, the number of calories in the bloodstream falls rapidly, so we get hungrier sooner after eating.
Therefore, in order to prevent and treat weight problems, the emphasis should be placed on what to eat instead of how much we eat. Replacing processed high-carbon foods with high-fat foods-such as nuts-lowers the hormone obtainable for the rest of the body. ____15____
Although much more research will be needed to test this idea, it is time to question the basic assumptions about cause and effect, calories and weight gain that have dominated our thinking for decades.
A.Weight control becomes a battle between dieting and exercising.
B.This may seem incredible but consider the rapid growth of teenagers.
C.The dietary advice for dealing with obesity has been around for decades.
D.We have lacked willpower to maintain healthy dietary and exercise habits.
E.A low-calorie diet further restricts an already limited supply of energy to the body.
F.This causes our fat cells to store too many calories, leaving fewer for the rest of the body.
G.In fact, high-fat foods may help decrease body fat, a possibility supported by medical practices.

Why We Listen to Music with Lyrics(歌词) We Don’t Understand
From French electronic to K-pop and Spanish jazz, it’s common for us to listen to songs we don’t necessarily understand. ____16____. Sometimes, we even sing along to them without knowing the dictionary meaning of lyrics.
But why? It all starts with what’s called “sound symbolism(语音表意),” which refers to the study of the relationships between utterances(发声) and their meaning. In music, there’s something about the appeal of words as sounds, beyond their meaning in a language. ____17____. This might explain why we are fond of a song even without knowing its lyrics.
____18____. One example of such techniques is scale(音阶). Songs in major scales are brighter or happier, while minor scales usually sound slightly darker or bluer. Our brain is wired to respond to a certain sound, and our breathing and even our movement go with the sound we hear. ____19____. Besides, elements of sound and music, like pitch, melody or harmony, also have an affective, emotional, and even physical impact on listeners. Through a complex of these elements, music adds so much meaning and dimension to lyrics. That is to say, the combination of all these creates the meaning far beyond the lyrics’ dictionary meaning.
____20____. Lyrics are powerful tools for helping us recognise, express and reflect our emotions. All in all, there’s value in whatever immediate appeal we find in the music we listen to, whether or not we understand the words. Music, after all, is a universal language.
A.The interrelationship of melody and pitch is important.
B.This is why fast-paced music is so popular for running.
C.Of course, this isn’t to ignore the importance of lyrics in music.
D.Things like a musician’s image also help convey meaning through songs.
E.So, when listening to a foreign song, we enjoy the lyrics as sounds and not words.
F.It seems that not knowing the language of the lyrics doesn’t stop us from liking a song.
G.Some musical techniques and elements can also help convey certain moods and messages.

    The Science of Recreational Fear
From peek-a-boo to Halloween haunted houses, research shows that recreational fear can teach us to face scary situations. The “paradox of horror” is that being scared, under the right circumstances, can be fun. ____21____
Having fun with fear is an “extremely important tool for learning,” said Mathias Clasen, director of the Recreational Fear Lab at Aarhus University in Denmark. “We learn something about the dangers of the world. We learn something about our own responses: What does it feel like to be afraid? How much fear can I take?”
Horror movies have gotten more popular. And in one survey of more than 1,000 Americans, conducted by Clasen, 55% described themselves as horror fans. ____22____ Many people who would not consider themselves fans of fear enjoy true-crime podcasts and novels featuring violence and murder. Others may enjoy nature documentaries about top predators (捕食性动物) such as sharks and bears.
Even babies like being a little spooked (惊的). Peek-a-boo is “an infant jump scare,” Clasen said. ____23____ “I don’t think I’ve yet come across a person who did not enjoy some kind of recreational fear,” he said.
____24____ It is a combination of an adrenaline (肾上腺素) rush and an opportunity to learn about dealing with scary situations in a safe environment, researchers say. When we are afraid, our endocrine system releases adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol to help prepare our body for physical action. We know the “Halloween” movie Michael Myers is not real, but our brain still responds as if he were a burning threat. One brain imaging study found that watching horror movies activates threat-response brain regions such as the amygdala (扁桃腺), prefrontal cortex and insula as if the danger were real.
After this rush, many people experience an uplifted mood. One study examined how 262 adults felt before and after they entered an extreme haunted house. ____25____ Brain recordings before and after showed that those whose mood improved had a smaller neural response to subsequent stressors, which is associated with the post-haunt high.
A.So why do we like it?
B.Fifty percent of people said they felt better after the visit.
C.And recreational fear, as it is rightly named, could benefit us, too.
D.Playing with fear helps us learn what our body does under pressure.
E.Horror, though, is not the only genre of what people find scary fun, he said.
F.We define recreational fear broadly as a mixed emotional experience of fear and enjoyment.
G.Classic childhood games of tag and hide-and-seek are just like the real scenes of predator vs. prey.

For many parents, it is not easy to ask for information from children about what they did at school all day. ____26____But other times, they keep silence or respond with a single word. It doesn’t have to be so tough. With the right strategies, even the most silent child will open up. ____27____
Don’t ask “How was your day?”.
This question often leads to one-word answers or a shrug. For many children, the question is too general and they don’t want to think about how to answer it with specifics.
    Share your own experiences.
____28____Don’t shy away from sharing your challenging experiences.   It will get the conversation started and help children understand their own emotions. Labeling that you are also having a stressful experience is a good chance to show them how they might do that.
    ____29____
Ask when your child feels disappointed, frustrated or sad, too. Asking children to share negative as well as positive emotions can help to surface problems in a more routine, less stressful way.
    Avoid distractions.
Choose a time to talk when you’ll be able to listen to your child. ____30____ Children are less likely to reply with thoughtful answers when you’re not paying full attention. Full focus will help you ask follow-up questions, which are important to show interest.
    A.Don’t rush to know everything.
B.Sometimes, kids are happy to chat.
    C.Don’t expect only positive experiences.
D.Here’s how to get them to tell you about their day.
E.Put your phone down and avoid doing other chores.
F.One way is to ask children to retell what they learned in school.
G.Children may follow your lead if you share your own highlights and lowlights.

Before coming to Beijing, I was worried about whether or not I would have opportunities to go out for long walks and hikes. Coming from the UK, where farms, fields and parks are never too far away, I thought Beijing was a city of giant buildings that never ended, a concrete jungle without nature. ____31____.
In the center of Beijing, there are public parks to explore: from Chaoyang Park in Chaoyang District to Ditan Park in Dongcheng District and to Beihai Park in Xicheng District. ____32____. If you really want to get close to nature, it’s well worth taking a trip to the city’s suburb.
____33____. Built along the Grand Canal (大运河) in Tongzhou District, the park is full of wildlife and nature, attracting visitors from all over the city on the weekends. Besides for trade, it was once used to transport water from the south of China to the north. Now the Canal provides beautiful views when you walk along the canal banks. ____34____. The wild birds that can be seen along with the numerous reeds (芦苇) are evidences of the regeneration (改造) project’s success.
Beijing, like other cities in China, is vibrant (有活力的) and full of energy as people rush around to work and have fun. ____35____.
A.I always sat alone, thinking of my hometown in Britain
B.One location worth visiting is the Grand Canal Forest Park
C.All of these locations are easily accessible by subway or taxi
D.People will wander in the park, buying and selling small items

F.Although it was polluted in the past, great efforts were made to improve the local environment
G.But it’s also important to change to a slower pace and return to nature with public parks for people to relax

The Benefits of Making Fun of Yourself
Being able to laugh at yourself isn’t always easy. However, making light of your weaknesses and life challenges can have a number of benefits. While it might sound surprising, being able to make fun of yourself can be good for your self-esteem(自尊).____36____
Making fun of yourself is a form of self-critical humor, which can involve being too modest, or even laughing at yourself humorously.____37____ However, research suggests they tend to be more self-confident. When this type of humor is used to maintain a positive attitude in difficult situations, it can help enhance well-being and self-esteem.
____38____ Making fun of yourself may help make you more likable and build stronger relationships with others. Interestingly, research suggests that both men and women think that being able to make fun of yourself is an attractive trait, despite differences in their ways of using humor.
Laughter has been shown to have a number of stress-fighting benefits. ____39____ When you view situations as threats, stress levels increase. Shifting to a mindset that allows you to see these situations as challenges can transform this into what is known as “good stress” that helps you feel more empowered.
Making fun of yourself can have some benefits, but it’s important not to take things too far. If making fun of yourself starts negatively impacting your mental health or well-being, it’s time to take a step back.____40____ If you embrace your weakness and imperfections to a reasonable degree, you will feel happier and improve your relationships and overall well-being.

Is fashion important to you?____41____From those who wear trendy ripped jeans and loose-fitting T-shirts to those who wear smart tailored suits and expensive designer outfits, each individual can have their own style.
____42____And what impact can this have on their self-expression?
Arguably, one factor that influences what people wear is the need to impress others. People who dress well and keep up with the latest styles seem to be more noticed than those who are not concerned about their appearance. ____43____In this way they assume an identity which makes them feel they impress. Yet, by copying general looks, people actually can’t show their individuality.
At the same time, fashion is perceived by some as a tool for success and one that represents wealth or respectable social position. For instance, people intentionally try to raise their status by wearing famous brands or expensive clothes which are admired by others.____44____They are just the means to promote a specific image of power and control. In this case, fashion does not express personal individuality but could perhaps be said to give a false impression of appearance for a specific purpose.
That being said, following fashion may not have anything to do with copying current trends but with using them as an inspiration to create outfits expressing individuality.____45____Adding glam here and there, rolling up a pair of trousers or even wearing two different shoes can be considered a form of self-expression demonstrating originality.
Having considered all this, to my way of thinking, fashion can be used as a means of communication and a way to communicate your self-image to people around you. As a famous designer once said, “Fashion is instant language.”
A.Is it a trend we must follow?
B.But why are people following fashion?
C.For most people it is, at least to some extent.
D.For this reason, people wear fashionable clothing.
E.These clothes are not actually giving a personal statement of the wearer.
F.There are always fashion followers, even though fashion is constantly changing.
G.An example of this is reforming fashionable pieces and making small personalized changes.

    Learn to Be Accountable
How does it feel when you admit that you have done something wrong? Taking responsibility for your actions not only feels good, it teaches you to trust yourself and strengthens friendships.
    What does being accountable mean?
It can be easy to blame (责怪) others or make excuses for mistakes, but being accountable means accepting that you are responsible for what you say and do. ____46____ You could say the bus was late, but being accountable means apologising and accepting that it was your responsibility to get there on time. However, being accountable doesn’t mean taking the blame for things you can’t change. You’re only accountable for things that you can control.
    ____47____
According to research, understanding you have control over your own actions makes you feel more positive and hopeful about the future. ____48____ For example, I remember a time I got the sofa dirty. I was going to lie about it because when my mum saw she got cross. But after I told her the truth, I wasn’t in as much trouble as I thought. Being accountable is also an opportunity to fix your mistakes and learn from them, and this helps you to trust yourself more too.
    How can you be accountable?
____49____ One way of doing this is by drawing a circle of control to help you work this out. As well as being responsible for what you can change, try accepting the things you can’t. We can’t always control what happens to us. ____50____ We can still choose our attitude. Finally, being accountable means taking responsibility when things go right, too, so remember to celebrate and feel good about yourself when this happens.
    A.What makes you accountable?
B.How is being accountable good for you?
C.But we do have a say in how we respond to it.
D.Start by understanding what is in and out of your control.
E.Taking responsibility can also make others trust you more.
F.Imagine arranging to meet a friend and then turning up late.
G.This can increase your happiness and help you achieve more.

____52____. However, Eating smaller portions and taking breaks to check in with your body on how full you are can help. This seems cruel especially when a delicious meal is right in front of you, but this tip can help reduce your feelings of sleepiness. Besides, try replacing the sugary and fatty foods on your holiday plate with more unprocessed, fiber-rich foods.
    ____53____
Many people look forward to that holiday nap, and often point to the turkey as the cause. In fact, you’d have to eat about 8 pounds for turkey to have an effect. Instead, it’s the rich, processed foods, such as candied sweet potatoes or pecan pie, that are making you feel tired____54____.
    Watch for depression
If you suffer from anxiety, depression or seasonal affective disorder (a condition that causes sadness when there’s less daylight), watching your sleep is key. Depression and sleep are linked. ____55____Calming strategies can include a relaxing transition before going to sleep in which you could take a bath, meditate or listen to soothing music.

The simplest way is by drinking 2 or 3 cups of green tea every day. ___57___, which helps reduce radiation. It also helps your eyes see things clearly in the dark by improving the visual ability.
It is advisable to attach a radiation filter plate in front of your computer’s screen. ___58___. These may have reflected some of the electromagnetic waves that are harmful to your health. And adjust the brightness of your computer screen. ___59___, the higher the radiation will be. You can also put some radiation absorbing plants such as several each (仙人掌) near your computer to prevent radiation.
Make sure you do a skincare protection before sitting in front of the computer. Apply a layer of facial mask to protect yourself. W ash your face soon after using the computer in order to reduce 70% of the radiation.
___60___. The old computer in general has one to two times more radiation released than the new one within the same distance.
A.Green tea can be absorbed by the body easily into a form of vitamin A
B.If possible, purchase a new computer instead of using the old computer
C.But here are some ways to protect yourself from computer radiation
D.The most eficient way is by drinking some coffee regularly
E.And adjust the sound level on your computer
F.Make sure to avoid putting any metal substances near your computer

When you’re giving a speech to an audience, there isn’t a one-stop-shop approach that will address everyone. ___61___ The following advice may help adapt your speech for your audiences.
Preparing your speech based on your audience size should be one of your first action-points. Larger audiences often have little participation, so ensure that your speech fills the given time. It’s also much harder to get the attention of a larger group.___62___   Remember to have eye contact with as many individuals around the room to keep them engaged. ___63___ This means you’ll need to prepare extra material if needed and allow for questions or comments throughout while still delivering your message in the given time.
___64___ Generally, there are four different ways in which people learn: visual, auditory, reading and writing and kina esthetic(动觉 ). Including elements of each learning style in your speech will help to engage more of your audience. Slides and images for visual learners, using sound effects for auditory learners, providing copies of the slides which can be noted and interactive parts of the speech will all be helpful in connecting with different audiences.
No matter how much you prepare and adapt your content for your audience, you may find yourself in the situation where you are losing their engagement during your speech. It’s essential that you read and act on these signals, like lack of eye contact, yawning or your listeners being on their phone. Take the time to observe these reactions in the crowd and understand what interest or bore your audience. ___65___
A.That’s why tone and body language is important.
B.Different people have different likes and dislikes.
C.But to draw a small audience’s attention seems much easier.
D.Smaller audiences often have more opportunities for interaction.
E.Different audiences have different requirements when receiving information.
F.Then adjust your approach to regain their attention while not going off your subject.
G.Another factor to consider is that your audiences have different ways to take in information.

    A Nervous Journey
Let’s take a journey. It is going to be a fast one, so be prepared. Where are we going? We are going to start at your head and end up at your toes. ___66___ It may be the shortest and fastest trip of your life. Are you ready? Let’s begin. Wiggle your big toe. Okay, we’re done. You might be saying, “That’s it?” We said it was going to be a fast ride!
You just sent a message with an electrical signal from your brain to the muscles in your toe. Bingo! It moves. ___67___ The electrical signals in your body can move as fast as 150 meters per second. In the amount of time it takes you to say “Mississippi” three times, a nerve could send an electrical signal the length of a football field and back. Now that you know how fast a nerve impulse (神经冲动) can travel, let’s take a look at the system that is the highway for these electrical signals.
The human body is made of trillions of tiny cells. Each cell is so small that you need a microscope to see them. Your skin, your hair, your eye — all are made up of cells. ___68___ Muscle cells move your body. Skin cells protect your body. One special type of cell, neurons (神经元), allow your brain to send messages to every part of your body.
The center of the nervous system is the brain. The brain takes in what your eyes see and what your ears hear. ___69___ You can think of your nervous system as a relay team passing a baton from one runner to the next. But instead of runners, you have cells, and instead of a baton, you have information. ___70___ It hands its information to the next cell, which passes the information to another cell. In the end, the information reaches its destination and causes a change — maybe a muscle contracts. The “information” baton passed from neuron to neuron is usually a small electrical event called an action potential.
A.Just how fast was the signal moving?
B.A neuron in your brain starts the relay.
C.Different types of cells do different jobs.
D.You might have heard them called brain cells.
E.Did you ever wish you could go inside someone’s brain?
F.It may not seem like a long trip, but it is going to be fast.
G.If you decide that you want to move around, your brain tells your muscles to do it.

Basic first aid is a very valuable skill to have when going on a camping trip. ____71____.
Cuts. With small cuts, you need to be careful to keep the area of the wound clean to avoid getting infected. Treat the cut with first aid cream to prevent infection. ____72____, raise the wounded area above the heart and place pressure on the area to stop the bleeding. Apply some cream and cover the wound with a dry, clean bandage. It should be held in place with tape, but should not be too tight.
Blisters (水疱). Blisters can turn a fun walk in the woods into a terrible experience. They are an open wound and can get infected if not cared for. ____73____. Make sure that you pack different size bandages and first aid cream.
Sprains. If you have got a heavy pack on your shoulders, it can be very easy to twist your ankles. Walking sticks can be a traveler’s friend. ____74____. A good ACE bandage should be packed in case of a sprained ankle. This can help fix the sprained area until you can get medical attention.
____75____, it’s also helpful to pack a small basic first aid kit for your trip. Make sure that you include items that are unique to you and fit your environment (bleeding, bruise, snake bite, etc. ).
A.After seeing the above dangers and treatments
    B.Wear sunglasses during the trips
C.If the cut has not stopped bleeding
D.Change your bandage and socks and keep the blistered area clean
E.They can help you keep balance on rough areas
F.Here is a brief list of less-severe injuries that you can prepare for
G.Some climates can be very hot during the day and very cool at night

Living in a different country can be a culture shock for many people, so make sure you know about the food, customs and culture of the place you are planning on moving to. ____76____. Here is some of my experience of moving from Spain to the UK.
    ____77____
The first thing that I did when I got out of the airport was to cross the road, but I looked the wrong way! In the UK the cars drive on the lefthand side of the road whereas in Spain they drive on the right. I almost got run over because I was still thinking I was in Spain. You have to be very careful when you move to another place.
    Drink water
____78____. In the UK the filtering (过滤) of the water means that you can drink straight from the tap. On my first night back I forgot that I could drink water from the taps and spent the night wishing I had a bottle of water. When I woke up, I realized how silly I had been.
    Time is different
If we are going for a proper night out at the weekend in Spain we might not meet until 10 or 11 pm at night or even later sometimes. This means we might not actually get home until 5 or 6 o’clock the following morning. ____79____!
    Greet everyone with a kiss
In the UK most men use a handshake to greet other men. ____80____. Women may be greeted with a handshake, a hug or a kiss on the cheek, depending on the situation. In Spain, among my friends, everyone is greeted with a kiss on both cheeks and maybe a quick hug.
    A.Be careful on the road
B.Drive on the left side of the road
C.In the UK that is already past the bedtime
D.Different places have different cultures and rules

1.根据上文“When we acknowledge that we are wrongdoers and express our guilt to others, we will free ourselves from the uncomfortable state. This act feels like a weight on us has been lifted.(当我们承认自己是做错事的人,并向别人表达我们的内疚时,我们就会从不舒服的状态中解脱出来。这一举动让我们感觉卸下了负担)”和下文“Research showed that heart rate, sweat levels and facial tension decreased in victims of wrongs even when they simply imagined receiving an apology.(研究表明,即使只是想象得到道歉,被伤害者的心率、排汗量和面部紧张程度也会降低)”可知,道歉不仅让做错事的一方感觉卸下负担,也对收到道歉的人有好处。故C项“A good apology affects the health of those on the receiving end, too.(一个好的道歉也会影响收到道歉的人的健康)”符合题意。故选C。
G项“It has the ability to disarm others of their anger and to prevent further misunderstandings.(它有能力消除别人的愤怒,防止进一步的误解)”符合题意,anger属于精神范畴。故选G。
根据下文“We should recognize our action did hurt someone even if our intention may not have been so. Instead of making excuses for what we did, try to bear responsibility and offer a promise to take action so that we will not repeat the behavior in future. (我们应该认识到我们的行为确实伤害了某人,即使我们的意图可能并非如此。与其为我们所做的事找借口,不如试着承担责任,承诺采取行动,这样我们以后就不会再犯同样的行为了)”可知,认识到自己确实伤害某人,与其找借口不如主动承担责任,承诺以后绝不再犯。结合常识可知,上述道歉的方法是大家公认的方法。故A项“There are agreed-upon ways to express our apology to others.(我们向他人表达歉意的方式已经达成一致)”符合题意,下文具体陈述这些一致的方法是什么。故选A。
根据上文“Instead of making excuses for what we did, try to bear responsibility and offer a promise to take action so that we will not repeat the behavior in future.(与其为我们所做的事找借口,不如试着承担责任,承诺采取行动,这样我们以后就不会再犯同样的行为了)”可知,这样做意味着我们应该承担责任,不再辩解。E项“This means we should take the blame and not try to justify it or explain it away.(这意味着我们应该承担责任,而不是试图为其辩护或解释)”符合题意,是对上文的进一步解释。故选E。
5.根据上文“Of course, the most effective apologies often bring a cost to our dignity, since we have to admit that we are wrong in front of others or many people.(当然,最有效的道歉往往会给我们的尊严带来代价,因为我们不得不在别人或很多人面前承认自己错了)”可知,最有效的道歉方式往往有失尊严。根据下文“As is known, it is one of the most positive actions we can take when we do something wrong—for ourselves, the others, and the relationship. So, go ahead, apologize a little more often for the things worth apologizing for.(众所周知,当我们为自己、他人和关系做错事时,这是我们可以采取的最积极的行动之一)”可知,做错了事,就应该道歉,这是可以采取的最积极的行动之一。 D项“But this can often be minor compared to the benefits of a proper apology.(但与一个恰当的道歉所带来的好处相比,这往往是微不足道的)”符合题意。故选D。

37.根据空后“However, research suggests they tend to be more self-confident.(然而,研究表明他们往往更自信。)”中的however可知,此空与下文为转折关系,下文讲述的是自嘲可以使人更加的自信,所以此处空应该是与此内容相反,F选项“People with such a sense of humor are sometimes regarded as having low self-esteem.(有这种幽默感的人有时被认为是自卑的。)”
38.空后的“Making fun of yourself may help make you more likable and build stronger relationships with others.(自嘲可能有助于让你更讨人喜欢,并与他人建立更牢固的关系。)”讲述的自嘲的人更讨人喜欢,人们更愿意与其建立牢固的关系,C选项“People are more drawn to others who can laugh at themselves.(人们更容易被那些可以自嘲的人所吸引。)”
39.根据空前的段落主题句“Laughter has been shown to have a number of stress-fighting benefits.(哄堂大笑已被证明有许多对抗压力的好处。)”可知,该段讲述的是自嘲有抗压好处,D项“Being able to laugh at yourself can relieve stress by changing your view.(能够嘲笑自己可以通过改变自己的观点来缓解压力。)”
40.结合空前的“If making fun of yourself starts negatively impacting your mental health or well-being, it’s time to take a step back.(如果取笑自己开始对您的心理健康或福祉产生负面影响,那么是时候退后一步了。)”可知,如果自嘲影响自己健康,说明有些过度了,而下文中的“If you embrace your weakness and imperfections to a reasonable degree, you will feel happier and improve your relationships and overall well-being.(如果你在合理的程度上接受你的弱点和不完美,你会感到更快乐,改善你的人际关系和整体幸福感。)” 故选A项。

41.上文“Is fashion important to you?”(时尚对你重要吗?)提出了一个关于时尚的问题,下文“From those who wear trendy ripped jeans and loose-fitting T-shirts to those who wear smart tailored suits and expensive designer outfits, each individual can have their own style.(从穿时髦的破洞牛仔裤和宽松的T恤,到穿时髦的定制西装和昂贵的设计师套装,每个人都有自己的风格。)”
42.下文“And what impact can this have on their self-expression?(这对他们的自我表达有什么影响?)” 故选A。
43.上文“Arguably, one factor that influences what people wear is the need to impress others. People who dress well and keep up with the latest styles seem to be more noticed than those who are not concerned about their appearance.(可以说,影响人们着装的一个因素是为了给别人留下深刻印象。穿着得体并紧跟最新时尚的人似乎比那些不注重外表的人更受关注。)”讲述穿着得体时尚会给人留下更深刻的印象,更受关注,下文“In this way they assume an identity which makes them feel they impress. Yet, by copying general looks, people actually can’t show their individuality.(通过这种方式,他们假设了一种身份,让他们觉得自己给人留下了深刻的印象。然而,通过模仿一般的外表,人们实际上无法展示自己的个性。)”讲述人们用这种方式想要给人留下深刻印象。因此空处应是说明一种方式,且与上文一致,故D项“For this reason, people wear fashionable clothing.(因此,人们穿时髦的衣服。)”
44.上文“At the same time, fashion is perceived by some as a tool for success and one that represents wealth or respectable social position. For instance, people intentionally try to raise their status by wearing famous brands or expensive clothes which are admired by others.(与此同时,时尚被一些人视为成功的工具,代表着财富或受人尊敬的社会地位。例如,人们故意通过穿名牌或昂贵的衣服来提高自己的地位。)”通过举例说明人们通过穿时尚的,昂贵的名牌来提高自己的地位,E项中的these clothes呼应上文的famous brands or expensive clothes,故E项“这些衣服实际上并不是对穿着者的个人陈述。”符合语境,承接上文,与下文“They are just the means to promote a specific image of power and control. (它们只是宣传权力和控制的特定形象的手段。)”是顺承关系。解释说明上文内容。故选E。
45.上文“That being said, following fashion may not have anything to do with copying current trends but with using them as an inspiration to create outfits expressing individuality.(话虽如此,追随时尚可能与复制当前的趋势无关,而是将其作为一种灵感来设计表达个性的服装。)” 符合语境,举例说明有些人只是进行个性化的改变,从而引出下文“Adding glam here and there, rolling up a pair of trousers or even wearing two different shoes can be considered a form of self-expression demonstrating originality.(在这里或那里增加魅力,卷起一条裤子,甚至穿两只不同的鞋子都可以被认为是一种展示创意的自我表达形式。)”

46.上文“It can be easy to blame (责怪) others or make excuses for mistakes, but being accountable means accepting that you are responsible for what you say and do. (责备他人或为错误找借口是很容易的,但承担责任意味着承认自己对自己的言行负责。)”指出做一个承担责任,有责任的人意味着承认自己对自己的言行负责。下文“You could say the bus was late, but being accountable means apologising and accepting that it was your responsibility to get there on time. (你可以说公共汽车晚点了,但要负起责任就意味着要道歉并接受准时到达是你的责任。)”则举例说明,把迟到不归咎于汽车而是归咎于自己是一个有责任的人应该做的。选项F“Imagine arranging to meet a friend and then turning up late.(想象一下,安排与朋友见面,然后迟到。)”
47.下文“According to research, understanding you have control over your own actions makes you feel more positive and hopeful about the future. (根据研究,了解到自己可以掌控自己的行为,会让你对未来感到更加积极和充满希望。)”以及“Being accountable is also an opportunity to fix your mistakes and learn from them, and this helps you to trust yourself more too.( 负责任也是一个纠正错误并从中吸取教训的机会,这也有助于你更加信任自己。)” B“How is being accountable good for you? (做一个负责的人对你有什么好处?)”提出的问题,因此选项B提出的这一问题可以作为第二段的小标题。故选B项。
48.下文“But after I told her the truth, I wasn’t in as much trouble as I thought.(但在我告诉她真相后,我并没有像我想象的那样陷入麻烦。)” E“Taking responsibility can also make others trust you more.( 承担责任也能让别人更加信任你。)指出负责带来的第二个好处,然后下文通过举例进一步解释这个好处,前后过渡自然。故选E项。
49.上文这一段的小标题“How can you be accountable?(如何成为负责的人?)” 下文“One way of doing this is by drawing a circle of control to help you work this out.(方法之一是画一个控制圈来帮助你解决这个问题。)” D“Start by understanding what is in and out of your control.(首先要了解什么是你所能控制的,什么是你无法控制的。)”
50.上文“We can’t always control what happens to us.(我们不能总是控制发生在我们身上的事情。)” 下文“We can still choose our attitude. (我们仍然可以选择自己的态度。)”选项C“But we do have a say in how we respond to it.(但我们确实对如何应对它有发言权。)”

61.根据上文“When you're giving a speech to an audience, there isn’t a one-stop-shop approach that will address every individual.(当你向听众发表演讲时,没有一种一站式的方法可以针对每个人。)可知,发表演讲时,没有可以一个通用的方法可以适用于每一个人,所以空处应表示观众是不同的,要求也不尽相同,下文“The following advice may help adapt your speech for your audiences.”(下面的建议可能有助于你的演讲适应你的听众。)也说明接下来讲述的是演讲满足观众的建议。故选项E.“不同的受众在接收信息时有不同的需求。”切题,故选E。
62.根据前文“Larger audiences often have little participation, so ensure that your speech fills the given time. It’s also much harder to get the attention of a larger group.”(更大的观众群体通常没有观众参与度,所以要确保你的演讲占满了给定的时间。 后文“Remember to have eye contact with as many individuals around the room to keep them engaged. ”(记住要和房间里尽可能多的人进行眼神交流,让他们保持专注。)说明要和周围的人进行眼神交流,即肢体语言也是重要的。所以空处应起承上启下的作用,说明演讲中语气和肢体语言是重要的。选项A.“这就是为什么语气和肢体语言很重要。”切题,故选A。
63.结合上文“Larger audiences often have little participation, so ensure that your speech fills the given time. ”(更大的观众群体通常没有观众参与度,所以要确保你的演讲占满了给定的时间。)后文“This means you’ll need to prepare extra material if needed and allow for questions or comments throughout while still delivering your message in the given time.”(这意味着如果需要你需要准备额外的材料,允许在整个过程中提出问题或评论,同时仍然在给定的时间传递你的信息。)
64.根据下文“Generally, there are four different ways in which people learn: visual, auditory, reading and writing and kina esthetic(动觉 ). Including elements of each learning style in your speech will help to engage more of your audience.”(一般来说,人们有四种不同的学习方式: 视觉、听觉、阅读和写作以及电影美学。
65.根据上文“ It’s essential that you read and act on these signals, like lack of eye contact, yawning or your listeners being on their phone. Take the time to observe these reactions in the crowd and understand what interest or bore your audience.”(你必须了解这些信号,并根据这些信号采取行动,比如缺乏眼神交流、打哈欠或你的听众在打电话。

70.根据后文“It hands its information to the next cell, which passes the information to another cell. In the end, the information reaches its destination and causes a change — maybe a muscle contracts. The “information” baton passed from neuron to neuron is usually a small electrical event called an action potential.(它将信息传递给下一个细胞,下一个细胞将信息传递给另一个细胞。最后,信息到达目的地并引起变化——也许是肌肉收缩。从一个神经元传递到另一个神经元的“信息”指挥棒通常是一个称为动作电位的小电事件。)”可知,此处是指神经元开始了接力赛,所以选项B“你大脑中的一个神经元开始了这个接力。”切合文意。故选B。

    【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了如何在网上做演说。
86.根据第一段“It takes a lot of training and experience to become a public speaker. However, there are slight differences when it comes to presenting to a virtual audience.(成为一名演说家需要大量的训练和经验。然而,当涉及到向虚拟观众展示时,有轻微的差异。)”可知,在公共场合做演讲和给网上的虚拟观众做演讲不一样。根据空后“When presenting online, however, you are not always able to see your audience. (然而,当你在线展示时,你并不总是能够看到你的观众。)”可知,在线下做公共演说的时候能看到自己的观众。F项“Maintaining eye contact is one of the most important skills you need to master as a public speaker.(作为一个公共演讲者,保持目光接触是你需要掌握的最重要的技能之一。)”
87.根据下文“This way, your eyes will appear to be looking directly at your viewers.(这样,你的眼睛看起来就像是在直视你的观众。)” A项“Instead, you are required to look directly into the camera.(相反,你被要求直接看着镜头)”符合语境,因为看着镜头就相当于看着观众,且与上文“When presenting online, however, you are not always able to see your audience.   (然而,当你在线展示时,你并不总是能够看到你的观众。) ”形成转折,即在线演讲时不是看着观众,而是看着镜头。故选A项。
88.根据上文“If it is a virtual event, you need to be precise and to the point. (如果这是一个虚拟的活动,你需要精确和切中要点。)”和下文“ So be sure not to bore them with too many irrelevant stories.(所以一定不要用太多不相干的故事让他们感到厌烦。)” G项“Ensure that your speech or presentation has a flow that the audience can follow without getting lost确。(保你的演讲或演示要连贯,听众可以跟上而不会迷失。)”承上启下,符合语境。故选G项。
89.根据上文“However, we all know how technology is, and the fact is that it might fail us. During such situations, you can talk through the disturbance as you work to get the problem fixed. (然而,我们都知道技术是怎样的,事实是它可能会让我们失望。在这种情况下,你可以一边说着问题,一边解决它。)”说明当出现技术问题时,我们可以一边处理问题,一边和观众聊着这个问题。D项“The audience might be more willing to wait for you as you work on your technical problem.(在您解决技术问题时,听众可能更愿意等待您)”与上文意义一致,符合语境,且与下文“unlike when you decide to just go quiet without letting them know why.(不像你决定不让他们知道原因就保持沉默。)” 故选D项。
90.根据上文“Now more and more people continue following the new trend. This is all thanks to the convenience virtual events have brought to us. (现在越来越多的人继续追随这一新趋势。这一切都归功于虚拟活动给我们带来的便利。)”可知在线演讲带给我们很多便利。E项“Nevertheless, you will still need to stay ahead of the trends to boost your online presentation skills.(然而,你仍然需要保走在这些趋势的前面以提高你的在线演讲技能)”说明在线演讲者仍然需要不断学习来提高在线演讲的技能,与上文形成转折,也给到读者更全面的建议,符合语境。

91.根据上文“It’s special both in its form and the unique experience it offers.”(它的形式和提供的独特体验都很特别。) 以及下文“Going on holiday with a group of friends is all about having fun, creating memories and trying a new experience with a shared interest to travel.”(和一群朋友一起度假,都是为了玩得开心,创造回忆,尝试一种新的旅行体验,有共同的兴趣。) Thus, it is certainly an experience to enjoy.(因此,这当然是一种享受的经历。)
92.根据上文“Going on holiday with a group of friends is all about having fun, creating memories and trying a new experience with a shared interest to travel.”(和一群朋友一起度假,都是为了玩得开心,创造回忆,尝试一种新的旅行体验,有共同的兴趣。) 以及“It means being inside jokes, great stories and plenty of laughs.”(这意味着有内幕笑话,精彩的故事和大量的笑声。) It also helps you learn more about how to travel.(它还可以帮助你更多地了解如何旅行)为另外一项补充说明团体旅游意为着什么。
93.根据下文“but the result will be satisfying.”(但结果会令人满意。) Planning a group trip may be difficult.(计划一次团体旅行可能很困难)符合此推断,上下文语意连贯。故选A项。
94.上文“Choose a popularly known destination or an unknown destination.”(选择一个众所周知的目的地或一个未知的目的地。) 下文“You will experience new or familiar destinations with close friends.”(你会和亲密的朋友一起体验新的或熟悉的目的地。) This decision can actually set the foundation for the mood of the trip.(这个决定实际上可以为旅行的心情奠定基础。)
95.根据下文“the main idea is that as a group they will be able to link their trip to the memories created.”(主要的想法是,作为一个团体,他们将能够将他们的旅行与所创造的记忆联系起来。) Whether they will be positive or negative memories.(无论他们的记忆是积极的还是消极的)也是讲的关于记忆的话题,并且和下文构成一个主从复合句。

96.上文“Guilt can be a depressing feeling that prevents you from moving forward with your life.(内疚是一种让人沮丧的感觉,它会阻止你继续生活。)”说明内疚感的不良影响,空后说“However, this article will guide you through the process and help you move towards a positive future.(然而,这篇文章将指导你完成这个过程,帮助你走向一个积极的未来。)” 因此空格处应说克服内疚是困难的,这样后文的建议才变得有必要,G选项“It may be difficult to understand how you can stop the negative feelings and deal with your past actions.(你可能很难理解如何才能停止消极情绪并处理你过去的行为。)”
97.上文“Identifying the source of your guilt and why it makes you feel guilty can help you to determine if you are experiencing healthy or unhealthy guilt.(找出你的罪恶感的来源,以及为什么它会让你感到内疚,可以帮助你确定你的罪恶感是健康的还是不健康的。)”说明确定内疚感的来源以及原因,可以帮助确定是健康的还是不健康的内疚感,空格处应提到这两种内疚感,D选项“Either way, you will need to work through these feelings in order to overcome them.(不管是哪种,你都需要克服这些情绪。)”说明了无论是健康的还是不健康的内疚,你都需要克服,其中的“Either way”是指“healthy or unhealthy guilt”中的其中一种,them指上文中“healthy or unhealthy guilt”,因此D选项承接上文,符合语境,故选D。
98.上文“Write about your feelings.(写下你的感受。)”概括本段主旨:写下感受,空格处应说明写下感受的好处,E选项“Journaling about your guilt may help you to start to understand it and deal it.(记录你的内疚可以帮助你开始理解它并处理它。)”承接上文,具体地说明写下内疚的感受的益处,引出下文“Start by writing down the reason that you feel guilty.(从写下你感到内疚的原因开始。)”
99.上文“Apologize if necessary. Once you have understood your feelings, you can determine if you need to apologize for your actions.(如果有必要,就要道歉。一旦你理解了自己的感受,你就可以确定是否需要为自己的行为道歉。)”建议在必要的情况下要道歉,空格处应对道歉进行具体的说明,F选项“Make sure that your apology is sincere and that you don’t make excuses for your actions.(确保你的道歉是真诚的,不要为自己的行为找借口。)”
100.空格处是本段主题句,下文“Reaching out to others often helps the person who offers help as much as the person who receives it.(向他人伸出援手通常对提供帮助的人和接受帮助的人都有帮助。)”建议向他人伸出援手,A选项“Do a good deed.(做一件好事。)”
