Are you searching for the latest device as a gift? Here, we offer a guide that will help you take a closer look at four of tech’s hottest categories.
Virtual reality
Virtual reality (VR), the most exciting tech development of recent times, has arrived. The Sony VR doesn’t require expensive phone and there are some devices you can purchase to enhance the experience. But if you’ve already got a PS4, you can enter the world of VR for just $400 (2780 yuan).
Wireless headphones
Combining ease of use with the ability to move around without limit, wireless headphones just make sense. The Bose QuietComfort 35 wireless headphones are worth a test drive. The headphones feature active noise cancellation. They can be easily purchased for less than $400 online.
Digital cameras
While your phone has more functions, there’s no substitute (替代品) for a real camera. As small as your smartphone, the smooth design of the Fujifilm X70, $699 (4850 yuan), makes it the perfect companion. In China, Xiaomi’s mirrorless Yi M1 offers a more affordable option, available for just 2199 yuan.
Smartwatches
Watches, thanks to the mobile phone, were becoming unnecessary. Now the pursuit for fitness has helped the watch industry push forward. FitBit has been a leader in the sporty wearable field, and its new swim-proof Fitbit Flex 2 ($130) represents the best in the way of today’s fitness bands.

“This material is called xiangyunsha,” said Song Fei, while she introduced a traditional cheongsam (旗袍) to customers in a flagship shop. “Dyed with pure plant extracts (提取物) and unpolluted river mud, the time-honored silk cloth is named ‘soft gold’ in the textile (纺织的) industry.”
To everyone’s surprise, the knowledgeable Song, who has unbelievable insights into cheongsam, a body-hugging one-piece Chinese dress for women, has practiced law for 10 years in Chengdu City. In 2017, she traveled to Suzhou to learn design and handicraft skills of cheongsam and traditional costumes, becoming a cheongsam designer.
At first, Song’s family and friends were not optimistic about her choice to switch from a distinguished career to an artistic field. Knowing little about clothing, Song met with a huge challenge. “The pain was unthinkable, but since I had chosen that profession, I had to stick to it. I want a career that I truly enjoy,” said Song.
Song returned to Chengdu with new skills and creative passion in 2019 and founded her design brand. “To be honest, compared with my previous job, this one is harder and leaves me with much greater financial pressure. But my sense of satisfaction is beyond comparison when my works are recognized and appreciated,” said Song.
“Traditional cheongsams are one-piece tailored dresses of Chinese origin that require making with natural materials by hand. However, modern cheongsams are often made with artificial materials and produced by machine,” Song said. “In the face of rapid social and economic changes, traditional cheongsams are receiving less attention due to the popularity of mass-produced cheongsams.”
To save the beauty of traditional culture, Song wants to blend people’s daily lives with time-honored handicrafts, believing that traditional culture should not be the zone of museums. She aims to pass on traditional Chinese culture, which is a meaningful type of work with social responsibilities.
24. Where did Song probably work in the past?
A. In a design room for costumes.
B. At an office of legal affairs.
C. In a museum of traditional culture.
D. At a flagship shop of cheongsams.
25. What made Song change her job?
A. Great financial pressure.
B. Persuasion from family and friends.
C. Unthinkable pain from the former job.
D. Love for traditional costumes.
26. What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The future development of cheongsams.
B. The main producing process of cheongsams.
C. The difference between traditional and modern cheongsams.
D. The original materials of traditional and modern cheongsams.
27. Which of the following can best replace the word “blend” in paragraph 6?
A. Combine. B. Present. C. Compare. D. Exchange.
C
Taking a regular afternoon nap (小睡)may be linked to better mental functions (心理机 能 ) in old people, a study has found. Researchers found sleeping in the afternoon has
something to do with better verbal fluency and memory in the ageing Chinese population.
The study, published in online journal General Psychiatry, examined the sleep patterns of 2,214 healthy people aged 60 and over in several large cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai. Of those who took part in the study,1,534 took a regular afternoon nap of between five minutes and two hours, while 680 did not.
Participants(参与者)in the study were asked how often they napped during the week, with answers ranging from once a week to every day. The average length of nighttime sleep was around 6.5 hours in both groups, though no information was taken on the specific duration or timing of the naps taken.
All participants took part in a dementia (痴呆)screening test to check their mental func- tions across a number of areas. The researchers found important differences in verbal fluency and memory, with scores higher among the napping group.
“In addition to reducing sleepiness, mid-day naps offer a lot of benefits such as strengthening memory, preparation for following learning, and emotional stability, but these effects were not observed in all cases,” the researchers concluded.
However, the researchers did point out the research could not conclude whether afternoon naps put off the dementia of older people, or whether they might be a symptom of dementia. The researchers plan to continue their research to understand the details of these connections, and hope to publish more work in this field in the future.
28.According to the text, afternoon naps can help old people
A. live a rich life B. keep their promises
C. treat others with kindness D. remember things better
29.How did the researchers get the findings?
A. By watching the old people's regular afternoon naps.
B. By showing many facts about old people's dementia.
C. By comparing the participants' mental functions.
D. By asking the participants to take many physical examinations.
30.What can we know from the last paragraph?
A. Afternoon naps can put dementia off.
B. The participants will write more works.
C. The author of the text wants to make the study.
D. There will be a further study on afternoon naps.
31.What does the text mainly talk about?
A. The harm of old people's dementia.
B. The advantages of afternoon naps for the old.
C. The connection between living longer and dementia.
D. The way to develop the habit of taking afternoon naps.

During the annual political sessions, environmental protection was definitely among the biggest concerns. Actually, it was also an issue that ancient Chinese paid great attention to. In fact, the world’s earliest environmental protection concept, ministry and laws were all born in China. So, how did the ancient Chinese protect the environment?
In early ancient China, environmental protection was promoted to the political level. Xunzi, a famous thinker in Warring States Period, brought up the concept of “managing state affairs through environmental protection”. He stated in his book that vegetation (植被) should not be damaged at will. Guan Zhong, an official 400 years ahead of Xunzi, was also an environmental protection expert. During his term of office, he claimed that “a King who cannot protect his vegetation is not qualified to be a king”.
According to a record in Qing dynasty, the environmental protection ministry in early ancient China was called “Yu”, standing both for the institution and the official title. Although most of its functions were similar to such ministries today, the administration range of it was much larger, including the mountains, forests, rivers, lakes and so on.
The nine ministries established by Shun, an ancient Chinese emperor, already included “Yu”, the environmental protection ministry. The first “Yu” official was a man called Boyi, who was indeed an environmental protection expert. He was a capable assistant to Dayu, an ancient Chinese water-control expert. He invented wells, protecting people’s drinking water from pollution. He knew a lot about animals and also called for animal protection.
Environmental protection laws dated back to the ruling period of Dayu, which was more than 4,000 years ago. During his rule, he issued a ban, forbidding people to cut down wood in March or catch fish in June, the time when they were supposed to boom.
In Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period almost 3,000 years ago, “environmental protection laws” appeared in its true sense in Qin, which was recorded in Law of Fields and regarded as China’s earliest “environmental protection laws”.
32. What can we know about Xunzi?
A. He was against any destruction of vegetation.
B. He was an environmental protection expert.
C. He removed the disqualified king from the position.
D. He brought up the thought of environmental protection.
33. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The ministry of Yu.
B. The Qing dynasty.
C. The term of office of Yu.
D. The modern environmental ministry.
34. Who was the first environmental protection minister in ancient China?
A. Shun. B. Boyi. C. Xunzi. D. Guan Zhong.
35. Which of the following could be the best title for the text?
A. Politics and Environment
B. The Earliest Environmental Laws
C. Dayu — a Great Environmental Protector
D. How the Ancient Chinese Protect the Environment

When someone you care about has suffered a serious health event or is dealing with a life-threatening illness, it can be difficult to know what to say or do. 36 How can you best offer your support? These tips can help:
Offer your support. Your friend or loved one may be unwilling to ask for help, but it’s support from people like you that can make all the difference in their recovery. Offer to help with a specific task, even if it’s simply to sit with them during or after treatment. 37
Listen. When you talk to someone with a serious illness, it’s natural to feel awkward or not know what to say. 38 Allow them to express what they’re going through without judging them.
39 The more you know about your loved one’s diagnosis (诊断) and treatment, the better prepared you’ll be to help. But that doesn’t mean you should tell the person what they should or shouldn’t do, unless they specifically ask for your opinion or want to know what you’ve researched. Treatment decisions are finally always up to your loved one, so be supportive even if you don’t always agree.
Stay connected. 40 You can’t just provide support at the time of diagnosis and then let your attention go. Your support can be just as important after treatment as it is before.
A. Encourage your loved one to keep calm.
B. Some illnesses can involve long-term treatment.
C. But often what really counts is to listen to the person.
D. Educate yourself about the illness but don’t give advice.
E. All you need to do is to present your determined attitude.
F. Your loved one is likely to experience some painful feelings.
G. Sometimes, the most important thing you can do is to be there.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The Belfast, Maine of my youth was not the coastal tourist village that it is today. At the time, McDonald’s hadn’t yet moved into town. Before the supermarket existed, Cottle’s, a food market where Mr. Proulx worked as the manager, was the only place where my mother could do her once-a-week shopping. Because we lived a few miles from Belfast, we’d usually combine the grocery trip with a visit to see my grandmother who always had cookies ready for us.
On one particular shopping day at Cottle’s, I stood behind my mother as she was unloading the grocery cart (购物车) and checking her items out at the register. The candy that displayed on either side of me were full of Life Savers, Clark Bars, Sugar Babies — you name it!
“Can I get some candies?” I asked. My mother rarely veered (转向) from her list so I wasn’t surprised with her response “No.” But I really wanted that candy!
I reached for a Sugar Baby package. My mother didn’t notice. So I thought she probably wouldn’t notice if I put them into my pocket. No one noticed my action — not my mother, not the cashier — no one! I did it! Wow! My very first shoplifting experience! How easy! How rewarding! Got my candy and didn’t need one penny to get it!
I sat in the back seat as my mother drove across the bridge to where my grandmother lived. Slowly, so as not to make any unnecessary noise, I opened my prize and carefully slipped a Sugar Baby into my mouth. No one piece of candy ever tasted so good!
Finally we pulled into my grandmother’s driveway. As I prepared to open my car door, I confidently slipped a few more Sugar Babies into my mouth.
“Keith, what have you got in your mouth?” I looked up at the rearview mirror (后视镜) and could see my mother’s eyes staring back at me. “I asked you a question! What have you got in your mouth?”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Uhhh ... just some Sugar Babies,” I replied, still not skilled in telling lies.
