Brit teaches fourth grade at Kula Elementary School. She knows that not every child is good at math, Science or other subjects. But that’s OK to a certain degree, she said. “I want them to have compassion(热情), care about each other and have life and social skills.” she added.
There is one shy student called Seth, Brit struggled to connect with him, who never seems to laugh. One day, Brit showed her students a film of skateboarders going all out at a race. Brit noticed Seth’s face light up; she had found something that got him excited! Since then, she and Seth have bonded(增进关系) over their shared love of skateboarding and Seth started to open up. But when Brit went one step further by inviting him to join her at the skate park, the boy’s face fell. “No,” he said, awkward. “I don’t have a skateboard.” Brit felt awful. Many students come from low-income families. “If your parents work hard to pay rent, they don’t have time to take you to skate park, let alone buy you that $200 skateboard,” Brit said.
Brit told her friend Zach, a skateboarder, about Seth. Zach was so moved that he pulled out an old skateboard for Brit to give to Seth. The two have since spent many afternoons skating together and Brit loves to see Seth progress. This act quickly grew into a grass-roots effort. Zach would collect skateboards and transport the donations to Brit to give to poor kids wanting a board.
Brit thinks the effort is a good way to change kids’ lives for the better. They could develop social skills and learn a valuable lesson: sometimes you fall. “I think that’s like the best social-emotional learning you could ever give a kid,” Brit said. “Just like, fall down, get up, try again, help others and have fun. That’s something that’s hard to teach in class.”
24、What can we learn about Brit according to the text?
    A. She believes school performance can be improved quickly.
    B. She thinks students should develop in different ways.
    C. She wants to interest students in all subjects.
    D. She is a very strict and serious teacher.
25、Why did Seth refuse Brit’s invitation?
    A. Because of his shyness. B. Because of his poor skills.
    C. Because of his parents’ attitude. D. Because of his family condition.
26、What does Brit try to stress in the last paragraph?
    A. The way to rise from failures.
    B. The importance of their effort.
    C. The process of learning to skateboard.
    D. The shortage of social-emotional education.
27、Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
    A. Teacher helps students realize their skateboarding dreams.
    B. Teachers makes a huge difference to poor kids’ study.
    C. Teachers sets a good example for students.
    D. Teachers develops students’ social skills.
A team of researchers at ETH Zurich has the perfect long-lasting solution to our fog problem. They have developed a very thin and gold-based transparent coating (透明涂层) that can turn sunlight into heat, which can be applied to glass and other surfaces to prevent them from fogging.
The special coating is developed using titanium oxide and gold particles. It selectively absorbs infrared radiations (红外线照射) from the sunlight and creates a heating effect that is powerful enough to keep fog away from the surface of an object. The coating basically uses heat to stop fogging. The coating absorbs a large part of the infrared radiation, which causes it to heat up—by up to 8ºC.
Previously, products like anti-fogging sprays create a very thin film of water on the surface to remove fog. The problem with such surfaces is pollution. Along with water, the sprays also attract dirt, dust, oil, and various other dirty substances, and just a little dirt on the surface makes it useless. However, the new coating repels(排斥) water. Furthermore, the coating is significantly thinner, which makes it more transparent as well as flexible. It is heated passively and requires, during daytime, no additional energy source.
Gold might be expensive, but the researchers stress that their coating requires so little that the material costs remain low. Their coating is cost-effectively. However, although this product can work at very low levels of solar irradiation, it does rely on a certain amount of light.
The researchers will develop the coating further for other applications. In the process, they will examine whether other metals work just as well as gold. There is no need to fear, however, this would cause a car or a building to heat up more in the summer. The researchers have already acquired a patent. Hopefully, this groundbreaking product will soon be available on the market.
28、How does the new coating work to remove fog?
    A. By reflecting part of sunlight selectively.
    B. By keeping cool air away from the object.
    C. By creating a thin film of water on the surface.
    D. By absorbing infrared radiations to heat the coating.
29、Why does the author mention previous anti-fogging products?
    A. To stress the advantages of the new coating.
    B. To introduce the inspiration behind the new coating.
    C. To prove the difficulty of creating anti-fogging products.
    D. To explain the reason for the anti-fogging coating being popular.
30、What is the limitation of the new coating?
    A. It is considerably expensive. B. It depends on sunlight to work.
    C. It takes too much time to produce. D. It is difficult to clean and maintain.
31、What do the researchers plan to do next?
    A. Apply for a patent for the invention.
    B. Develop the product for more practical uses.
    C. Explore the environmental impact of the coating.
    D. Seek a cheaper material as an alternative to gold.
Seagrass meadows (海草床) are wonder plants growing beneath the sea. They feed and shelter sea life and are masterful at storing carbon. Thanks to the assistance of tiger sharks, a huge seagrass meadow in the Bahamas Banks was recently discovered, offering the world a tool to fight climate change.
Seagrass has usually been detected by Earth-orbiting satellites that identify darker patches in the blue water. In this study, tiger sharks were selected as research tools due to their close relation with seagrass ecosystems. They spend 70% of their time in seagrass meadows. The team equipped eight tiger sharks with satellite tags, seven sharks with camera tags, and used a 360-degree camera on a shark for the first time ever.
The data researchers collected was astonishing. The world’s largest seagrass ecosystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilometers, has been discovered. This reflects a 41% increase from previous estimates of global seagrass. Seagrass can capture(捕获) huge quantities of carbon by photosynthesis and stores it on the seafloor. In terms of climate change, this is excellent news; seagrass is 35 times faster at removing carbon than tropical rainforests. When referred to global seagrass carbon stock estimates, the study indicates that seagrass in the Bahamas may contain 19.2% to 26.3% of all the carbon stored in seagrass meadows on Earth.
Yet seagrass meadows are rapidly disappearing, with over 92% of meadows in the UK gone, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Scientists are collecting seeds and trying to grow new seagrass meadows through restoration (修复) projects. This new discovery offers optimism and proves the importance of the ocean for healing.
The sharks led us to the seagrass ecosystem in the Bahamas, which we now know is likely the most significant blue carbon sink on the planet. What this discovery shows us is that ocean exploration and research are essential for a healthy future. The untapped potential of the ocean is limitless. These meadows can be protected and can be replicated, offering hope for climate change around the globe.
32、Why were tiger sharks chosen as research tools?
    A. They are more flexible than other sea animals.
    B. They can quickly adjust themselves to the deep sea.
    C. They can be easily equipped with experimental devices.
    D. They have a strong connection with seagrass ecosystems.
33、What are the numbers in paragraph 3 mainly about?
    A. The reduction of global seagrass meadows.
    B. The impact of climate change on sea life.
    C. The rapid increase in the amount of carbon on Earth.
    D. The potential value of the world’s largest seagrass ecosystem.
34、What are scientists doing to protect seagrass?
    A. Planting more seagrass meadows.
    B. Developing new technology to collect seeds.
    C. Mapping the distribution of seagrass meadows.
    D. Encouraging people to join in restoration projects.
35、Which could be the best title for the text?
    A. The New Way of Removing Carbon
    B. The Significance of Ocean Exploration
    C. A New Discovery: World’s Largest Seagrass Meadow
    D. Tiger Sharks: Scientists’ Essential Helper to Study Climate

As he lay awake that night, Tony could hear his parents discussing his sister Alice’s birthday. It was just two days away. Birthdays were always a lot of fun, even though there was no money for store-bought gifts. Nearly all of toys he and his sister had were homemade. There was nothing wrong with that, he knew. Like many families in this part, they were poor.
This birthday would be different, though. Alice was older now, and he’d seen how her eyes lit up when she saw the new doll at Honey House, a neighborhood store just down the road from their house.
How he longed for (渴望) her to have it! An idea finally came to him just before he went to bed. After a quick breakfast the following morning, he tied a bag to the handlebars of his bike and headed toward a village hill.
After a long journey, he reached his destination (目的地), the mango (芒果) forest. There were already two other boys there. Tony grabbed his bag and set to work immediately.
The sun was high overhead. The weather was hot and nearly all of the taller trees held ripe mangoes but they were well beyond reach. Tony struggled to climb the trees to pick mangoes, though he fell off many times.
His efforts were sometimes rewarded when a mango dropped into the bag. After a while his neck ached from looking upward, and his arms grew sore(酸疼的). He kept at it, though, and by late afternoon his bag was nearly full.

    17、答案:C
解析:Hello, Ryan. This is Sarah. Thanks so much for your party. It was a big surprise and I really enjoyed it. I’m sorry that I had to leave early. My dad was worried about the traffic. In the end, we got to the airport at 8:00 p.m., much too early. Then the flight finally took off three hours later. My mom disliked flying, so she was quite stressed. Altogether, it wasn’t much fun. Fortunately, New York time is five hours behind London, so it was still Sunday evening when we arrived.
New York is really different from London, and I feel quite strange. Yesterday my cousin Sam and I went to Fifth Avenue, where we saw some amazing stores. I was surprised at the prices. Things are much cheaper here. Of course, I bought some presents for you and your family. I sent them to you by post. Now I’m quite tired of traveling, and I can’t wait to go home to Los Angeles! Ryan, don’t forget to call me back. Bye.

    25、答案:D
    26、答案:B
    27、答案:A
根据文章第二段It selectively absorbs infrared radiations (红外线照射)from the sunlight and creates a heating effect that is powerful enough to keep fog away from the surface of an object(它选择性地吸收阳光中的红外辐射,并产生强大的热效应,足以使雾远离物体表面)可知这种新涂层通过吸收红外辐射加热涂层来消除雾气。因此D.By absorbing infrared radiations to heat the coating.(通过吸收红外辐射来加热涂层。)
    29、答案:A
Previously, products like anti-fogging sprays create a very thin film of water on the surface to remove fog. The problem with such surfaces is pollution. Along with water, the sprays also attract dirt, dust, oil, and various other dirty substances, and just a little dirt on the surface makes it useless. However, the new-coating repels(排斥) water. Furthermore, the coating is significantly thinner, which makes it more transparent as well as flexible. It is heated passively and requires, during daytime, no additional energy source.(以前,像防雾喷雾这样的产品会在表面形成一层非常薄的水膜来消除雾气。 A.To stress the advantages of the new coating.(强调新涂层的优点)符合题意。故选A。
However, although this product can work at very low levels of solar irradiation, it does rely on a certain amount of light.(然而,虽然这种产品可以在非常低的太阳辐射水平下工作,但它确实依赖于一定量的光。)
The researchers will develop the coating further for other applications.(研究人员将为其他应用进一步开发这种涂层。) B.Develop the product for more practical uses.(开发更实用的产品)符合题意。
根据第二段“In this study, tiger sharks were selected as research tools due to their highly consistent associations with seagrass ecosystems.(在这项研究中,虎鲨被选为研究工具,因为它们与海草生态系统的联系非常一致)”可知,虎鲨被选为研究工具的原因是它们与海草生态系统有着密切的联系,故选D项。
根据第三段“The data researchers collected was astonishing. The world's largest seagrass ecosystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilometers, has been discovered(研究人员收集的数据令人震惊。世界上最大的海草生态系统已被发现,面积至少为66900平方公里)”以及“When referred to global seagrass carbon stock estimates, the study indicates that seagrass in the Bahamas may contain 19.2% to 26.3% of all the carbon stored in seagrass meadows on Earth.(当提到全球海草碳储量估计时,该研究表明,巴哈马的海草可能含有地球上海草草甸中所有碳储量的19.2%至26.3%)”可知,第三段提到的数字是关于世界上最大的海草生态系统的潜在价值,故选D项。
    34、答案:A
根据倒数第二段第二句“Scientists are collecting seeds and trying to grow new seagrass meadows through restoration projects.(科学家们正在收集种子,并试图通过恢复项目种植新的海草草地)”可知,科学家们打算种植更多的海草草地以保护海草,故选A项。
根据文章第一段“Thanks to the assistance of tiger sharks, a huge seagrass meadow in the Bahamas Banks was recently discovered, offering the world a tool to fight climate change.(在虎鲨的帮助下,最近在巴哈马群岛发现了一片巨大的海草草地,为世界提供了应对气候变化的工具)”、第三段第一句“The data researchers collected was astonishing. The world's largest seagrass ecosystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilometers, has been discovered.(研究人员收集的数据令人震惊。世界上最大的海草生态系统已经被发现,面积至少为66900平方公里)”以及最后一段“What this discovery shows us is that ocean exploration and research are essential for a healthy future.(这一发现向我们表明,海洋探索和研究对健康的未来至关重要)”可知,本文主要介绍了一项发现:世界上最大的海草生态系统,故选C项。

    52、答案:①from②have sprung③to connect④where⑤the⑥to⑦provided⑧chiefly⑨was set⑩popularity
    ⑤这里考查倍数的表达的其中一种:倍数+the size/length/weight/width of,所以这里size前面缺少定冠词the。
    ⑥与前面range from搭配, range from... to...
    Dear Jack,
Delighted to hear that you are interested in giant pandas, I’m writing to share with you some knowledge about giant pandas.
Giant pandas are not only important in our heart but play a significant role in biodiversity. Our government has taken effective measures to address the loss of their habitats like making laws to forbid deforestation, setting up nature reserves and carrying out wild training. Hopefully, more giant pandas can be born and alive, playing in the wild happily and freely.
Look forward to your coming to China and learn more about giant pandas.
    Yours,
    Li Hua

    Paragraph 1:
Tony rushed back to Honey House, out of breath, only to find the owner of the store was going to close the door. Seeing Tony, he told him to come the next day. But Tony didn’t give up and explained all to the owner. Hearing Tony’s explanation, the owner opened the bag to check the mangoes. To Tony’s disappointment, they were not enough to exchange a lovely doll. He was walking out with tears rolling down his face when the owner stopped him and finally agreed because of his love for his sister. After giving many thanks, Tony got his sister a dream present.
    Paragraph 2:
The following morning, Alice walked into the kitchen and took a seat at the breakfast table. She noticed a beautiful box on the table. Curious, she opened the box carefully. To her great surprise, she found the doll she had been dreaming of for a long time. When Tony said happy birthday to her, Alice couldn’t help crying and hugged him tightly. Touched by the warm atmosphere, their parents smiled with pleasure, knowing their son had grown up and was reliable enough to take care of his sister.
