Dear James,
I’m writing to invite you to a charity event. It is scheduled to be held in our school from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. next Friday, aiming to raise funds and promote environmental awareness. Students will create craft items from recyclable waste, which will be sold on the spot to raise money for a local charity. It’s a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a good cause while admiring the artistic skills and creativity of the students.
We would be delighted if you could join us.
Yours, Li Hua
第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
One possible version:
Anna helped him put up the ads around the neighborhood. Very quickly Bobby’s ads spread around. Amazed to hear that a ten-year-old was offering his services to help an elderly woman, people from all over the city started calling and asking Bobby to do jobs for them. Soon he was asked to walk dogs, buy groceries, and mow lawns for people. Meanwhile Mrs. Killinger was very pleased with the extra companionship Bobby provided and Bobby quickly gained a reputation as a reliable and kind helper. Seeing the funds increasing, Bobby felt more than delighted.
Two weeks later, Bobby still hadn’t raised the amount of money he wanted. But Bobby didn’t give up. He continued to offer his services to anyone who needed it. Bobby even started a GoFundMe page and shared it on his social media accounts, hoping to reach more people. His efforts paid off when a local news station shared his story, and more people offered their support. Thanks to his hard work and kindness, Bobby was finally able to raise enough funds to purchase a new wheelchair for Mrs. Killinger.
听力录音材料
Text 1
M: Do you have any plans for the weekend?
W: If the weather is fine, I’ll climb mountains or have a picnic with my friends. How about you?
M: I’m going to visit my grandparents with my aunt.
Text 2
W: I haven’t seen you at the supermarket for a while, Bill.
M: I left last month. I finished my mechanics course. I’m working at the car repair shop next to the Italian restaurant. You can bring your car here next time you have a problem.
Text 3
W: Now, if there are no more questions, let’s move on to the next chapter.
M: Excuse me, professor—could we go over that last point once more?
Text 4
M: Is everything to your satisfaction, ma’am?
W: Yes, all the food is delicious except that there is too much salt in the soup. And your service is also very good.
Text 5
W: Hello, Mike. This is Amber. I hear that you’re looking for an apartment, and my brother Jack just rented a two-bedroom downtown. He is looking for a suitable roommate.
M: Great. I’m looking for a place right in that area. That sounds ideal.
Text 6
W: I would like to begin my thank-you speech by saying “I want to whole-heartedly thank those who stuck with me along the way.”.
M: You’re not going to start your speech with that boring opening, are you?
W: I think it’s a nice opening.
M: It’s too formal. How about “Hey Emily, you’re totally awesome. And Tania, you’re absolutely amazing.”?
W: That doesn’t even come close to expressing how I feel. I want to thank people for their kindness and support from the bottom of my heart.
Text 7
W: We’ve been running the last couple of days and you’re a fast runner. How often do you run?
M: Well, now I only run about four days a week. But when I was younger, everyday.
W: Oh, really! Did you run in high school or college?
M: Believe it or not, I started when I was six years old.
W: Wow. So are you a better short distance runner or long distance runner?
M: Actually middle distance runner.
W: How far is a middle distance?
M: About 1,500 meters.
W: What’s your fastest time in the 1,500 meters?
M: Ah, three minutes and forty-seven seconds.
W: That’s pretty fast.
M: I did that in high school and I won a gold medal then. Though I’m not so fast now, still I can run the event within four minutes.
W: That’s pretty cool. My time will be about six minutes.
Text 8
W: Have you ever considered starting a vegetable garden in our backyard, darling?
M: Hmm, I’m not sure. What’s the point? We can just buy vegetables at the supermarket.
W: Well, I think it would be a delightful hobby for us to do together. Besides, we would have fresh, organic produce.
M: That’s a valid point. It could also save money on groceries and help us stay healthy. But I’m concerned about the time and effort it would take to maintain the garden. And what if we don’t have a green thumb?
W: Don’t worry, we can start small and learn as we progress. Additionally, we have access to a wealth of online resources and helpful neighbors who can help us.
M: Alright, I’m willing to give it a go. What should we plant first?
W: How about some easy-to-grow vegetables like tomatoes and peppers? And we can also plant some herbs.
M: Sounds good. Let’s hit up the shop for some seeds now.
Text 9
M: Hi, Marina. Can I ask a few questions?
W: Yes, sure, go ahead.
M: As a photographer, you are quite successful. Can you tell me who can become a photographer?
W: Anyone can become a photographer, as long as you want it. It’s not like you need a degree or certificate or anything. Yes, I’ve been planning to take photography classes in an art school in the UK, but before this, I’d already been working as a photographer for years—I started by using my phone in junior high. Some of my photographer friends do other jobs at the same time—they are music makers, vloggers and directors.
M: What does a photographer usually do?
W: There are different kinds of photographers and our lives and work can be quite different, too. A National Geographic kind of photographer may travel to different places, taking photos of architecture, landscapes and animals. But fashion photographers like me, mainly do two things—commercial shoots and our own creative projects. The former is for making money and offering service to customers. The latter is for expression—we post these photos on our own social media, submit them to media outlets and contests, or host photographic exhibitions to show them off.
M: What makes a good photographer?
W: For commercial shooting, there are some routines that we can follow and the most important thing is to meet the needs of our customers. For our own shoots, what matters most is that you have something that you want to express, and these things can be received or understood by a certain groups of people who think similarly.
M: Thanks for having given the interview.
Text 10
W: Mozart was an outstanding musician and composer whose fame continues to grow more than two centuries after his death. He was born in Salzburg, Austria, in 1756. Before the age of four, he had shown great musical talent. His father then decided to let him start taking instrumental lessons. The boy’s reputation as a musical talent grew fast. At five, he was composing music. From that time on, Mozart was performing in concerts and writing music. By his early teens, he had mastered the piano and violin, and was writing symphonies and operas. His first major opera was performed in Milan in 1770, when he was only fourteen. At fifteen, Mozart became the conductor for an orchestra in Salzburg. In 1781, he left for Vienna, where he was in great demand as both a performer and a composition teacher. His first opera was a success. But life was not easy because he was a poor businessman, and his finances were always in a bad state. His music from the next decade was not very popular, and he eventually fell back on his teaching jobs for a living. In 1788 he stopped performing in public, preferring only to compose. He died in 1791 at the age of thirty-five. Although he lived only a short life, he composed over 600 works.
