    Unit 4 Adversity and CourageUsing Language Period 2 教学设计                                       教材分析该部分的活动主题是“认识乐观和坚毅”(Learn about optimism and perseverance),该板块的内容仍是“坚忍号”南极探险故事的延续,与前面的听说部分的故事情节在时间上平行,只是描绘的主体人物是象岛上的船员们。阅读语篇是一篇回忆录,文章以“坚忍号”大厨的口吻生动地描绘了象岛上船员们的日常生活。学生在本课学习结束后,会对“坚忍号”南极探险历程形成完整的印象。这个时候让学生们结合这个故事写下自己的思考和感悟,不仅是对本单元所学内容的整体回顾,还能帮助学生整理和总结各方面的收获,尤其是对领导管理能力、集体主义精神、乐观的生活态度在社会生活中的重要性有更为深刻的认识。教学目标 在本课学习结束时,学生能够:1. 了解“回忆录”的叙事风格和语言特点;2. 整理出“坚忍号”南极探险的大致历程;3. 基于对故事内容的理解写一篇故事评论;4. 培养自己坚毅的品质和乐观的态度。教学重难点【教学重点】1. 通过阅读该“回忆录”,了解这一文本体裁的叙事风格;2. 引导学生整理整个探险的大致历程,分析船员们能够获救的主要原因;3. 引导学生梳理写作框架,并基于对故事内容的理解写一篇有关沙克尔顿和“坚忍号”南极探险的故事评论【教学难点】指导学生基于故事细节对人物进行合理的分析、推理和评价,并根据总结出的写作框架完成写作任务,分析自己的阅读感受。教学过程Step 1 Lead-inImagine yourself as one of the crew members who were left on Elephant Island. Think about the questions below.(1) What problems would you face?(2) How would your life be like?(3) What would be the biggest challenge for you? How would you overcome it?(4) How long would you stay on the island?(5) Would you be rescued finally?设计意图:引导学生想象在象岛生活时会遇到的困难,引出本节课的话题,并为后续的阅读内容做铺垫。Step 2 Reading1. This is a continuation of the story of Shackletons men who were left on Elephant island. Read the memoir and figure out the structure.设计意图:介绍该阅读语篇的背景,并引导学生识别文本的篇章结构,培养学生的语篇意识。2. Read the text again and answer the following questions.(1) What did the men eat and drink on the island?(2) What were the dangers of living on the island?(3) Why was it dangerous to wear too many clothes?(4) How did the men stay in good spirits while waiting to be rescued?(5) What do you think were the key reasons for their survival?设计意图:要求学生仔细阅读文章,把握文章的细节信息,深入理解文本内容。3. Read the second part carefully and make a mind map to show the problems they faced and how they solved the problems.设计意图:引导学生关注本文的重点段落,分析船员们在岛上遇到的困难及相应的解决方案,并培养学生利用思维导图梳理信息的意识。4. In groups of four, discuss the questions below.(1) If you were one of the men on Elephant Island, would you have trusted Shackleton? What qualities of Shackleton make you trust him or not trust him?(2) How would you describe Shackleton? Why?(3) Do you think he would abandon the crew on the island?(4) Can you explain in your own words how he earned the other members’ trust?(5) If you were Shackleton, what would you do?设计意图:让学生基于对故事内容的理解对人物进行合理的分析、推理和评价。Step 3 Pre-writing1. Read the whole story again and think about the following questions. Make notes with your answers.(1) How does the author describe Shackleton and his crew members?(2) What kind of relationship did Shackleton have with his crew?(3) What struggles did they face?(4) What were the motives for their actions?(5) What did you like most about the story?2. The table below may help you to arrange your notes.设计意图:让学生根据提供的问题进行思考,并梳理整个故事的情节,帮助学生明确写作内容。3. There are some writing tips for you.(1) Begin your essay with a brief summary of the story. Remember to include who, what, where, when, why, and how.(2) Use your notes and cite examples to explain what you think about the characters.(3) End your essay by talking about how the story made you feel, and give your overall impressions of the expedition and the men who went on it. Explain why you feel this way.设计意图:让学生明确写作任务的相关要求,并形成大概的写作框架,为后续的写作任务做好框架准备。Step 4 While-writing1. Based on your notes and the outline below, write an essay about the story of Shackleton and his men on the ship Endurance.2. The following expressions may be helpful while you are writing.设计意图:让学生基于写前活动整理出来的文章提纲和相关笔记独立完成写作任务Step 5 Post-writing1. Exchange your first draft with a partner. Use the checklist to assess your partner’s draft.2. Then take your draft back and revise it using your partner’s comments.3. Put up your essay in the classroom or read it to your class.设计意图:指导学生完成同伴互评和成果展示。Step 6 AssignmentIn groups, prepare performances based on the diary entries and the memoir you have read.            You need to create a script, in which your words and actions are included.            You should have rehearsals to be more familiar with the plot.             You will perform before the whole class.设计意图:通过布置课本剧编写及表演任务,让学生更深入地体会故事情节中所体现的人物性格特征和品质。同时,编写剧本和汇报表演还能训练学生的语言运用能力,并提高学生的学习积极性。
