A life coach is somebody who helps you reach all kinds of personal and professional goals (目标) . Each of us has the ability to be our own life coach. Here are some tips for you:
♦ Pay attention to your relationships with others
Ask yourself the following questions: How do you deal with disagreements? When was the last time you showed your family members that you care for them? Your relationships with friends, family members and teachers show a lot about the kind of person you are.
♦ Face the fears about the future
Now, imagine that one of your good friends told you that he or she was not strong enough to go back to school. We often give better advice than we are willing to take ourselves. Remember that even the most successful people were probably told that what they wanted to do was impossible, but they followed their dreams and succeed.
    ♦ Develop your talents
If you want to reach your goals, you will have to spend more time developing the talents you already have, and uncovering any hidden talents that you haven’t discovered yet. So you can take classes in subjects that you are interested in, even if you have no experience.
    ♦ Be thankful
Take some time to be thankful for the things you do have. Remember positive memories.Think of the best day(s) you have had in the past month or year. Remember special parties, vacations and holidays. Appreciate the wonderful people you have in your life.

If our eyes only saw souls* instead of bodies, how differently would we understand the meaning of beauty?
Our house was across the street from a big hospital, so we rented* our empty upstairs rooms to outpatients. One evening, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to see a truly sick-looking man.
His face looked terrible — it was swollen* and red. Yet his voice was pleasant. He told me that he came for treatment and that he’d been hunting for a spare room since noon, but no one would give him one because of his face. For a moment I hesitated*, but he said he would be happy to just sleep on our porch*. I agreed.
The old man had a huge heart inside his tiny body. He told me that he fished for a living to support his daughter, her five children, and her crippled husband. He didn’t complain while telling me his story. He was grateful that he didn’t feel any pain from his disease, which was seemingly a form of skin cancer.
The next morning, he said, “Can I come back and stay the next time I need treatment?” I told him he was welcome to come again. On his next trip, as a gift, he brought a big fish and some large oysters*. In the years that he stayed with us, there was never a time that he did not bring us gifts like these.
My neighbor warned me that I could lose potential* renters by putting up the old man after he left the first morning.
Maybe we did lose renters once or twice. But if only they could have known him, perhaps their illnesses would have been easier to bear. I know our family always will be grateful to have known him. From him we learned what it was to accept the bad without complaint and the good with gratitude.
6.The author hesitated* to answer at first, which shows that ________.
A.he wondered how the old man found him B.he was happy to accept the old man
C.there were no empty rooms upstairs D.his decision was not an easy one

C.He didn’t care about his wife’s life. D.He was grateful to have skin cancer.
8.What did the writer think of the neighbor who warned him?
A.The neighbor wanted gifts from the old man.
B.The neighbor didn’t want to see the old man’s face.
C.The neighbor didn’t see the kind soul inside the old man.
D.The neighbor might do something bad to the old man.
9.What does the writer want to tell us?

One day when I was 12, my mother gave me an order: I was to walk to the public library, and borrow at least one book for the summer. This was one more way for her to solve my strange problem—inability to read.
In the library, I found my way into the “Children’s Room.” I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf without any plans. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle.
There on the book’s cover was a beagle which looked similar to my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.
Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though the pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running together.
My mother’s call returned me to the real world. I suddenly realized something: I had read a book, and I had loved reading that book. Everyone knew I could not read. But I had read it. Books could be really wonderful and I was going to read them.
I never told my mother about my unexpected experience that summer, but she saw a slow but surprising improvement in my classroom performance during the next year. And years later, she was proud that her son had read thousands of books, was presented a PhD in literature, and wrote his own books, articles, poetry and fiction. The power of the words has held.
15.The author’s mother told him to borrow a book in order to ________.
A.encourage him to do more walking B.let him spend a meaningful summer
C.help improve his reading ability D.make him learn more about ways
16.The book caught the author’s eye because ________.
A.it contained pretty pictures of animals B.it made him remember his own dog
C.he found its title easy to understand D.he liked children’s stories very much
17.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.The author has become a successful writer.
B.The author’s mother read the same book.
C.The author’s mother presented him with books.
D.The author has had happy summers ever since.
18.Why could the writer read the book through successfully?

Once, a gentleman was traveling on a bus. He felt thirsty and got off at a station in search of water. However, before he got back to the bus, it left and he missed it. The man decided to find a place for a day’s stay. He went to the nearby hotels to ask for a room but found none.

The aim of students who come to school is to study. But to study needs a right way, or you may waste ________ the time or the money. The following are the ways of studying.
The best time for reading is morning, because in the morning, the air is fresh and the mind is clear. For that reason, we can get good results.
In studying we must have patience (耐心). If we have not known a text well, we must read it again. We should not read the next one until we have learned the first one.
When we are studying, we must put our hearts into the book, or we can ________ nothing from the book while we are reading.
We must always ask “whys”. If it is not well understood, write it down and ask our teachers or our parents, or friends. In any possible way, we must know it completely and what we have learned can be used well and made better. So asking more “whys” can help us understand well.

What are the foods that you can only taste in memories? Your mother’s biscuits? The mud pies you made as a child? What are the recipes that bring those memories to mind?
This morning, for the first time in more than a year, I made Dutch Babies and I didn’t burn them. Yes, I was always amazed to pull anything out of the oven that isn’t burnt. But sometimes, I get lucky.
What are Dutch Babies? Picture a cross between a pancake and an omelet that tastes better than both. They’re easy to make, and you can make a lot of servings in one pan at the same time. Making Dutch Babies brings to my mind some of the happiest memories of my life. I was given the recipe by a dear friend Sally, a cook who knew a great dish when she tasted it. I’ve made Dutch Babies a few thousand times for house guests and Sunday suppers. They were always a hit, even if I burned them.
After my kids grew up, I didn’t cook much for years, except for holidays or other big occasions. But if I had a full house, I’d make Dutch Babies for breakfast. I can’t recall the last time I made Dutch Babies, before today. I know it was more than a year ago, before life as we knew it was shut down for COVID-19, and we stopped having guests.
So why did I make them this morning for only my husband and me? It’s been a difficult year for all of us, filled with things we couldn’t do. I was hungry to celebrate being alive. I mixed up the ingredients and put it in the oven. While it baked, I thought of all the family and friends I’ve baked it for over the years.
Good food can feed a hungry crowd. However, if it’s made with love and seasoned with memories, it can fill a soul with hope of better days to come.
53.When would the writer make Dutch babies?
A.When she prepared for Saturday suppers.
B.When she thought of her best friend Sally.
C.The day all the family members got together.
D.Every day except big occasions and holidays.
54.The underlined word “seasoned” probably means “_________”
    A.fixed B.added C.changed D.tasted
55.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Baking with Love B.The Taste of Good Food
C.Dutch Babies in Memories D.A Hard Year Without Sharing
56.Does the writer think Dutch Babies are good food? Why or why not?

Have you ever been so worried about something that you have a headache or even can’t sleep at night? Then you cannot pay enough attention during a test or in your study. If so, then you know that is stress. You are worried too much about something. The bad feeling in your mind can make you angry, sad, or scared, and can even give you a stomachache or a headache.
However, some kind of stress is good. Excitement might happen when you are called to give a speech at school. You feel nervous but excited. This kind of stress can help you to get things well done. And you may do a better job in your test if the stress pushes you to prepare more beforehand(事先).
On the other hand, bad stress can last long if you are unable to come over your problems. You may not feel well, if your parents are having a quarrel, if a family member is badly ill, if you’re doing poorly at school, or if anything else makes you unhappy. That kind of stress isn’t going to help you. And it can actually let you do worse in your daily life. The best way to fight the stress is to have a balanced life. Make sure you get enough sleep and eat properly. Have some regular exercise. You should take some time for fun. Get advice from your parents, teachers and friends. Soon after that, you’ll probably get away from your stress.
57.What can stress often make you feel? (no more than 10 words)

58.Why is some kind of stress good? (no more than 15 words)

In your life, there are a lot of people around you. They are your relatives(亲戚), neighbors, friends and classmates. Sometimes you get on well with them, but sometimes don’t. What can you do when someone hurts you? Most people may be angry or even fight with him. But it’s not a good idea. You’d better forgive (原谅) the one who hurts you.
Perhaps it’s not easy for you to do that, but it’s possible. Please remember: Keep a good mood(心情), and you will keep healthy. Staying angry with others, in fact, means letting others’ mistakes hurt you unfairly.
    How can you forgive others?
Firstly, think of something wonderful and try to get yourself happy.
Secondly, don’t wait others to say sorry to you. If anyone hurts you, he won’t say sorry to you. He may just want to hurt you or just don’t see things on the same way.
Thirdly, try to see things in others’ shoes. You can understand their minds better and make yourself a little happier.
At last, try to know yourself very well. Whose mistakes caused that, yours or others’? If it’s our mistake, try to say sorry to them; if it isn’t, smile at the thing.

Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.
Creating an interest in what they learn
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something interesting. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English, This way they will not get bored.
    Practicing and learning from mistakes
Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember, “Use it or lose it”! Even if you learn something well, you will forget it ①you use it. “Practice makes perfect.” Good learners will keep practicing what they have learned and they are not afraid of making mistakes. Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.
    Developing their study skills
It is not enough to just study hard. Good learners know the best way they can study. For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. They also look for ways to review what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.
    Asking questions
Good learners often ask questions during or ②class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning.

I stayed with a young soldier.
“I’ll clean you up.” The voice sent me a shock. It seemed I had heard a voice but I couldn’t remember. He led me towards a stable. I tried to see his face, but I could only see his neck and pink ears.
“You are so dirty,” he said as he arrived. “I can’t see what you look like.”
As he cleaned the brushes*, he sang the song I had heard a thousand times. With great joy. I raised my front legs and cried out to him. “You nearly knocked my hat off.” he said, touching my nose as he always had done before.
“You’re talking to horses again, Albert?” came a voice nearby.
“One day, one of them will recognize* my voice, David,” said Albert. “He’ll understand every word I say.”
“You are talking about Joey again? Won’t you give up? He could be dead.”
“He’s the reason I joined the army.” Albert said, starting cleaning my tail. “He’s bright red. He has a white cross on his forehead* and four white socks. Every time when I nearly died in the war, the wonderful time I spent with him came to my mind. He was my hope Either. I’ll find him, or he’ll find me. I made him a promise.”
“You are crazy.” said David, coming to help.
I touched Albert with my nose to make him notice me. But he was still busy at my tail.
“It got four white socks too,” said David, washing my legs. “If you paint it red, you’ll have your Joey.”
“Are you joking? I know many army horses have four white socks” said Albert quietly. “But I’m serious about Joey. He was my only friend before I came to the war. But my father had to sell him to the army to save the farm.”
David was brushing my head now.
“Albert!” he said quietly. “I’m serious. You said Joey had four white socks with a white cross in his forehead?”
    “Right.” Albert was completely disinterested.
“Come here, Albert! I’ve never seen a horse like that,” said David, touching the hair on my forehead. “I wouldn’t have thought it possible.”

Now students’ English handwriting (书写) gets worse and worse. That makes their teachers feel worried. Is your English handwriting beautiful? Here are some ways to improve your handwriting.
    Use paper with lines
Using paper with lines can keep you writing well when you write English words or sentences. Those lines on the paper can help you to write words in the right size.
    Slow down
If your writing is hard to read, try slowing down a little. For some kids, writing slowly makes handwriting clear. If you write too fast, you may make more mistakes.
    Hold your pen right
When you hold your pen in the correct way, writing is much easier. Some students hold the pencils so hard when they write. That makes the handwriting not nice. Try to relax yourself and don’t hold the pen so hard. If you do so, people will think you are a student with a good habit.
    Draw more pictures
Drawing can improve your handwriting. You need to use the skills to control (控制) your pencil better when you are drawing pictures. If you have no time to draw at school, you can practice it at home.
Handwriting is very important. You need to take time to improve it.
