Tears filled my eyes as I stood in our room. I was washing new jeans and a shirt of my 16-year-old stepson, Brett. He drank a lot last night. The clothing was already covered with throw-ups.

I was very tired. The clothes were just one thing. He had already kicked a large hole in his bedroom wall. Many windows were broken because of his breaking in to steal money. She lost her mind! Suddenly the LOL pencil box she just trashed was good enough and the ziploc bag was terrible. But it was too late for all that. For example, he or she can be somebody whose mommy and daddy don't have money for any school supplies or someone who may not even have a mommy or daddy. I explained to her she was not born with anything special and she didn’t realize how lucky she was.

So, for now she will be using a ziploc bag and give the nice box to another child that knows to be thankful. Maybe I overreact sometimes but I would have done anything to have all the things she does as a child. I truly believe changing your perception and just being thankful can turn around any situation in life.
