BWhile using traditional cooking methods and authentic flavors, Chinese pastry chefs (糕点师) of all ages are becoming creative in developing new connections of traditional Chinese culture and the modern world to attract young people. Zang Chaiyuan, 26, pastry chef started to create different rabbit-shaped huabobo, a flowerlike steamed bun, with a history dating back more than 300 years. “Rabbits are cute, and I can create many products inspired by rabbits,” she says, “People like this skill that combines (兼具) traditional Chinese culture. Since December, the number of online orders has doubled, and some want to learn to make them for their loved ones. So I host online and on-site pastry courses to show how to make them.” Wu Yang, 35, a pastry chef, is popular because of his creativity in making the 3D lion-head puff pastry. It involves six steps and each step includes a very complex process. If one tiny mistake is made in any step, then the final product fails. To achieve the vivid effect of the hair on the lion head after deep-frying, Wu has to cut 160 times on the tiny dough (生面团) without cutting it through. By combining traditional Chinese culture with his works, Wu hopes that he can attract more young people to find interest in Chinese pastry. Wang Zhiqiang, 74, master chef known as the “king of pastry’’, is constantly creating new products. In 1972, Wang designed a dish for a state banquet (国宴). Over the next 10 years, he created and perfected mianguo, or flour-based fruits. When cooking mianguo, he chooses to steam, instead of deep-frying or baking, as steaming is a traditional Chinese cooking method and a healthier choice. He is planning to make small, cute versions of traditional Beijing snacks. “I want young people to try around 20 snacks without feeling full, and also to learn about the stories behind each snack,” he said. 28. Chefs can learn all the methods of making Chinese pastry from online courses. D. Chefs should keep learning to make traditional Chinese pastry to attract young people. CThe country is India. A large dinner party is being given by an official and his wife. The guests are local famous people and an American scientist. At one side of the long table a young girl and a colonel (上校) have a heated discussion. The girl insists women have made great progress and they are not as timid as before. The colonel says women always scream loudly and can’t control their deeds when there’s something dangerous. The other men at the table agree with him. The American scientist doesn’t join in the argument but sits and watches the faces of the other guests. Suddenly he sees a strange expression come over the face of the hostess. She is staring straight ahead, the muscles of her face contracting (收缩) slightly. With a small gesture she calls the native boy standing behind and whispers to him. The boy’s eyes widen. He turns quickly and leaves the room. No one else except the American sees this. The American doesn’t realize there is a snake in the room until the boy puts a bowl of milk outside the glass door. Where is the snake? He looks around and finds out there is only one place—under the table. He wants to jump back and warns the others, but he knows such actions will frighten the snake and it will strike. He speaks quickly, “I want to know what control everyone at this table has. I will count three hundred and not one of you is to move.”The 20 people sit like stone images while he counts. In the process of counting he sees the snake make for the bowl of milk. It is a cobra (眼镜蛇). Four or five screams ring out as he jumps to shut the door. “You certainly were right, Colonel!” the host says aloud. ‘‘A man has just shown us an example of real control.”“Just a minute,” the American says, turning to the hostess, “there’s one thing I’d like to know. Mrs. Wynnes, how did you know that cobra was in the room?”A faint smile lights up the woman’s face as she replies, “Because it was lying across my foot.”31. Why does a strange expression come over Mrs Wynnes’ face? A. Because she isn’t interested in the discussion. B. Because she is surprised by something terrible. C. Because she is tired of such a noisy dinner party. D. Because she doesn’t agree with what the colonel says. 32. What can we infer from the passage about the American scientist? A. He is curious and easily frightened. B. He is a wise person with a sharp mind. C. He is shy and doesn’t care about others. D. He is a rude person with poor knowledge. 33. Which is the best title for the story? A. A Brave Man. B. An Unexpected Cobra. C. A Dinner Party. D. An Endless Discussion. DDo you know full confidence in your memory? Look at the two pictures and choose the one which you think is correct. Then check with the answer. Answer: The one on the right is correct. Pikachu never had a black tail in any of its various versions. Its yellow tail does have brown fur at its base, but there is no sign of black fur on its tail. There has been a discussion about whether it is shi or si in the sentence. “Thus when Heaven is about to confer a great office on any man...” Most people voted si as what they learned at school. However, People’s Education Press (PEP), a leading publisher of Chinese textbooks, claimed on Oct. 26 that all its textbooks say shi. Supporters of si feel shocked and say they’ve experienced the “Mandela Effect”—the situation in which a large number of people believe that an event happened when it didn’t. Many people believed that former South African president Nelson Mandela died in the 1980s in prison. However, Mandela was alive and well, eventually passing away in 2013. US researchers Fiona Broome created a website to detail her discovery of this public phenomenon, coining the term (术语) which has been in use till now. Some often joke that our memories have been changed by a strange force. In fact, psychologists have looked into the reasons for the Mandela Effect, as reported on the US-based website Verywell Mind. For example, your mind may fill in gaps missing in your memory to make more sense of it, which is called confabulation (虚构症). However, try not to feel bad—this is not lying, but rather remembering details that never happened. The internet may be another reason why we tend to have Mandela Effect events, as the news we read can be false from the beginning. In 2018, Science journal published a study of over 100,000 news stories discussed across Twitter. It showed that false news can spread faster and reach more people than the truth. As a powerful way to spread information, the internet might be the main reason for falsehoods to enter our minds. 34. Why does the writer mention the discussion about the sentence in Paragraph 3? A. To solve a mystery of Mandela Effect. B. To raise readers’ interest in confabulation. C. To introduce the topic of the Mandela Effect. D. To discuss which word is the right one, si or shi. 35. Which of the following words has the closest meaning to “coining” in Paragraph 6? A. Inventing. B. Borrowing. C. Describing. D. Correcting. 36. How does the writer further explain the Mandela Effect? A. By showing pictures. B. By giving examples. C. By presenting reasons. D. By drawing conclusions. 37. What can we infer from the passage? A. Most people know the former South African president Mandela well. B. The word si or shi both existed in Chinese textbooks published by the PEP. C. If you can tell the right Pikachu, you will never suffer from the Mandela Effect. D. If you remember details that never happened, you may experience the Mandela Effect. 38. You are struggling to fall asleep when you hear some strange sounds from upstairs or somewhere in the building—creaking, tapping or even marbles (弹珠) dropping and bouncing on the floor! Are there ghosts making noise? Luckily, science can explain. Andy Piacsek, a scientist with the US Acoustical Society, told US-based company Vox Media that the sounds could change as they spread through buildings, meaning the early sound could be very different from the final noise of “marbles” or “pins” reported by many people. “Plumbing (管路系统) is a good cause,” Piacsek suggested. When water floods through a pipe, it compresses (压缩) the air in the pipe and creates the first sound of a dropped marble. As the water flows away, the sound it makes grows more loudly, which may be similar to the sound of a dropped marble bouncing on the floor, then rolling across it. Another possible cause is a common phenomenon in physics—objects expand when heated and contract when cooled. According to China Science Communication, during the day when the temperature rises, buildings take in heat. At night, the air inside a building’s pipes becomes cold. The warm and cold air within buildings leads to the contraction of the walls, making strange sounds. However, knowing such sounds can be explained by science does not usually stop us from being scared. When scared, we may have an increased heart rate, rapid breathing, and even a blank mind. Dr Felipe Amunategui at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, US, told ABC News that under such conditions, a frightened person will simply react to a scary situation rather than sit down and examine their reaction. ProblemAt midnight, you may hear strange sounds from upstairs or somewhere in the building. When scared, you may have a 54 heart rate, rapid breathing and even a blank mind. Reasons The sounds could change as they spread through buildings. When water floods through a pipe, it compresses the air 55 and creates the sound like marbles dropping. As the water flows away, it makes 56 sounds. There is a common phenomenon in Physics—objects expand when heated and contract when cooled. With the 57 of the warm and cold air within buildings, we may hear such strange sounds. Conclusion 58 such sounds can be explained by science, it doesn’t stop us from being scared. Under such conditions, it’s common for a frightened person to react like this. ________________ students’ eyesight, Chinese government has taken actions in recent years. 60. Though he ________________, Wilson decided to set off as soon as possible. 61. It’s ________________ to keep in touch with those stupid guys. 62. His carelessness provided me ________________. 63. The little boy ________________ in class. 64. Since The Wondering Earth was on the screen, more and more young people ________________ science fiction. 2023年宜兴市初三中考适应性练习英语参考答案2023.04第I卷 (客观题 共50分)一、单项选择 (本大题共14分,每小题1分) 1—5 DCBBD 6—10 ACABC 11—14 DDCA二、完形填空 (本大题共10分,每小题1分) 15—19 ABBCD 20—24 DADBC三、阅读理解 (本大题共26分,每小题2分) 25—27 BAC 28—30 ABD 31—33 BBC 34—37 CACD第II卷 (主观题 共50分)四、词汇运用 (本大题共8分,每小题1分) 38. strict 39. lies 40. marks 41. live42. uncomfortable 43. based 44. achievement 45. completely五、动词填空 (本大题共8分,每小题1分) 46. has played 47. went 48. were cleaning 49. writes50. will make 51. cance (l) ling 52. am invited 53.
