Together they moved to New York, but the two soon separated. In the hope of living happily ever after, she remembered her earlier dream of becoming a professional singer and started trying hard to realize it. At night, Benatar worked as a singing waitress. Then, on Halloween night 1977, Benatar gave a performance dressed as a modern vampire(吸血鬼). The audience went wild. This experience led Benatar to change her looks. In her later performances, she usually wore black tights and a short black top.
The new style made her performances more popular, and gave her a chance to work for Chrysalis Records. Her first single, Heartbreaker, headed the Top 40 charts, as did several of her other songs. Benatar won four Grammy Awards for Best Rock Vocal performance, from 1980 to 1983. Benatar was also the winner of three American Music Awards: Favorite Female Pop/Rock Vocalist of 1981 and 1983, and Favorite Female Pop/Rock Video Artist of 1985.

(2022春·湖北襄阳·高一宜城市第一中学校联考期中)My name is Michelle Rogers. For most of my life I had been fighting with my body weight. I was either gaining weight or trying to lose it. I wasn’t happy with myself, and I certainly wasn’t able to fully enjoy life. Not only did I feel bad physically, but I felt terrible emotionally. I also knew I wasn’t able to be the best I could be, and with failure after failure in losing weight, I just felt so hopeless to make it.
One day in 2008, I was looking through ads online and saw a treadmill (跑步机) for $100. This time I decided to start small and keep it doable. The first week I started walking 15 minutes on the treadmill at a fixed time every day. The next week I did 16 minutes. Each week I added a minute. Gradually, I increased speed as well as time. Once I got to 30 minutes, the weight started dropping off.
I didn’t lose weight at first, but I didn’t give up like I did in the past. I realized I started feeling better. My legs were getting stronger. I didn’t feel painful like I used to when I got up from my desk. All the efforts I’d been putting into fitness made me want to start eating healthier, too. I began with small changes as well. After these years I started listening to my body. It was refusing food and habits that were bad for me.
Today, the extra weight is gone. I still exercise every morning. I look and feel the best I have never done. Every area of my life has improved and benefited from this change in me. Not only do I have my youthful energy, looks and health back, but also I have more confidence than I have ever had.

(2022春·广西钦州·高一浦北中学校考期中)When 45-year-old Randy Pausch was diagnosed with pancreatic(胰腺) cancer, he chose to focus on living rather than dying. As a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Pausch was asked to deliver a “last lecture”. This well-known campus tradition allowed professors to share worldly wisdom with students as if they were dying and had one last lecture to give.
The only difference in Pausch’s case is that Pausch really was dying, but it only motivated him more. He delivered his last lecture, “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” on Sept. 18, 2007.
Pausch began by sharing several of his boyhood dreams, some of which he had achieved and the others he hadn’t. He described the importance of having dreams and how anyone can still learn a lot by reaching for those dreams, even if they don’t always succeed. He shared the values(价值观) learned through experience, which he hoped to pass on to others hard work, laughter and gratitude, honesty, character.
Pausch’s last lecture received a great deal of praise and attention. It became a crazy YouTube hit, and in October 2007, he presented an abridged (删节的) version on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. He turned the lecture into a book by the same name, which quickly became a best-seller. Readers were deeply moved by the book’s representation of Pausch’s lifelong philosophy and the way it revealed the biggest source of his motivation—his three young children.
Pausch passed away on July 25, 2008, but his voice lives on in the recorded lecture and his book. He continues to motivate us all by encouraging us to never give up our childhood dreams—a source of inspiration that can never run dry.

A.To teach the students. B.To make him have a better life.
C.To cure his cancer. D.To achieve his dream.

20.The purpose of the passage is to inspire people to ________.

(2022春·湖南长沙·高一雅礼中学校考期中)Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I took a fare (出租车乘客) at 2:30 AM. When I arrived to collect, standing on the sideway was a small woman in her 80’s with a big suitcase.
After I helped her into the taxi, she gave me an address, and asked, “Could you drive through downtown?” “It’s not the shortest way,” I answered quickly. “I don’t mind,” she said, “I’m in no hurry. I’m on my way to a hospice (临终安养院).” I looked in-the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were wet. I quietly reached over and shut off the meter (计价表). “What route would you like me to take?” I asked.
For the next two hours, we drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newly married. She had me stop in front of a shabby house where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she’d ask me to slow in front of a particular building and sat staring into the darkness, saying nothing. At last, she said, “I’m tired. Let’s go now.”
We drove in silence to the destination. It was a grey low building.
“How much do I owe you?” she asked, reaching into her purse. “Nothing,” I said. Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly, and whispered a “Thank you”. I squeezed her hand and walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life.
I didn’t pick up any more passengers but drove aimlessly lost in thought. What if that woman had come across an impatient driver? What if I had refused to drive through downtown? Great moments often catch us unaware, beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

A.His distrust of the fare. B.His pity for the woman.

A.To find a place to settle down. B.To reach the destination on time.
C.To kill time before the hospice opened. D.To see the city for the last time.
23.What can we learn from the story?
A.Don’t give up and never lose hope. B.People should respect each other.
C.A small act of kindness brings people great joy. D.Strangers are family you haven’t known yet.
24.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.A taxi ride I’ll never forget B.My strange driving experience
C.The ending of an old woman’s life D.An old woman passenger and her life
(2022春·广西南宁·高一南宁三中校考期中)When I was 17, I read a magazine article about a museum called the McNay, once the home of a watercolorist named Marian McNay. She had requested the community to turn it into a museum upon her death. On a sunny Saturday, Sally and I drove over to the museum. She asked, “Do you have the address?” “No, but I’ll recognize it, there was a picture in the magazine.”
“Oh, stop. There it is!”
The museum was free. We entered, excited. A group of people sitting in the hall stopped talking and stared at us.
“May I help you?” a man asked. “No,” I said. “We’re fine.” Tour guides got on my nerves. What if they talked a long time about a painting you weren’t that interested in? Sally had gone upstairs. The people in the hall seemed very nosy (爱窥探的), keeping their eyes on me with curiosity. What was their problem? I saw some nice sculptures (雕刻) in one room. Suddenly I sensed a man standing behind me. “Where do you think you are?” he asked. I turned sharply. “The McNay Art Museum!” He smiled, shaking his head. “Sorry, the McNay is on New Braunfels Street.” “What’s this place?” I asked, still confused. “Well, it’s our home.” My heart jolted (震颤). I raced to the staircase and called out, “Sally! Come down immediately!”
“There’s some really good stuff (艺术作品) up there.” She stepped down, looking confused. I pushed her toward the front door, waving at the family, saying, “Sorry, please forgive us, you have a really nice place.” Outside, when I told Sally what happened, she covered her mouth, laughing. She couldn’t believe how long they let us look around without saying anything.
The real McNay was splendid, but we felt nervous the whole time we were there. Van Gogh, Picasso. This time, we stayed together, in case anything else unusual happened.
Thirty years later, a woman approached me in a public place. “Excuse me, did you ever enter a residence (住宅), long ago, thinking it was the McNay Museum?”
“Yes. But how do you know? We never told anyone.”
“That was my home. I was a teenager sitting in the hall. Before you came over, I never realized what a beautiful place I lived in. I never felt lucky before. You thought it was a museum. My feelings about mv home changed after that. I’ve always wanted to thank you.”

(2022春·重庆·高一重庆市武隆中学校联考期中)Twelve-year-old Leonardo was born in a poor family in Bambamarca in Peru. He knew how to read but he had never seen a book in his life. So he asked the new priest (牧师) in his village to give him one. But there was no electricity. So Leonardo borrowed candles from the church and sat up all night reading it. The next morning, he was at the door of the priest asking for another book to read.
John Medcalf, the priest, was moved. He also realised that people would love to read if given a chance. But he knew how difficult it was for Leonardo and those in his village to get books. And yet, no one can be taught to read and write without books. To make people in a poor, faraway area grow to love books, they have to be with them. So he thought the only way was to bring books to people.
But how could this be done? Mobile libraries or car libraries would be too expensive and difficult to continue in the rocky, hilly land of Peru. So what other methods could be used?
Medcalf got a new idea from the barefoot doctors of China. And that was how the barefoot librarians first appeared in the villages of northern Peru, almost thirty years ago.
The librarians began by going from village to village, lending books to villagers. They helped start The Rural Library Network of Peru.
At first, they were teachers of the village schools which these faraway libraries belonged to. But the teachers were not very interested in the job because it meant a lot of hard work. So, village leaders took on the job themselves.
Today, there are 600 village libraries across Peru. The barefoot librarians who walk up to 15 hours a day with bags of books are their lifeline.

B.bought candles from the church

D.lived in the church
30.The underlined word “this” in Paragraph 3 probably refers to ______.
A.to grow to love books
B.to read and write
C.to bring books to people
D.to build a new library
31.The passage doesn’t mention ______.
A.where Medcalf met Chinese doctors
B.who worked as village librarians at first
C.when the barefoot librarians appeared
D.how many village libraries Peru has today
32.It can be inferred (推断) from the passage that ______.
A.the first church in Peru was set up by John Medcalf
B.car libraries used to be popular in Leonardo’s village
C.teachers were interested in bringing books to villagers
D.the barefoot librarians are important to village libraries
(2022春·重庆·高一重庆八中校考期中)Teaching is a constant process of upgrade, where every moment you learn new things, not only as a teacher, but also as a human being.
At the start of my career, I believed I should come across to my students as a “no-nonsense” type of person. My entire focus was towards maintaining classroom discipline. It was tough. Most of my Indian students were from a rural background. They would intentionally use vocabulary that sounded Greek to me. They did all in their power to make me feel like a fish out of water.
My last lecture ended at 2:30 in the afternoon. Some of the students approached me begging to let them leave 15 minutes early as they had a bus to catch. My permission resulted in a stir (骚动) as half of the class stood up to leave. They all had buses to catch! Unable to distinguish between the genuine ones and those faking it, I put a ban on anybody leaving before time.
One evening, I spotted three boys from my last class at the bus stop. I called out, “You constantly blame me for not allowing you to leave early because you have a bus to catch and here you are still hanging around at 5 pm!” One of the boys replied respectfully and humbly, “Madam, the bus leaves at 2:30. If we leave the class at 2:15, we are able to make it. In case we miss it, the next bus to our village comes after three hours. Now we are waiting for it. At this hour, the bus will be overloaded and we will not even get a seat.”
I was full of regret. The next day, I asked all the students who had a bus to catch to write an application, get it signed and leave whenever they wanted, without seeking my permission. I learnt the first lesson of my life as a teacher—learn to understand your students, for they would learn better from you when they respect you than when they fear you.
33.What gave the author the biggest headache when she started teaching?
A.Her students’ serious violent behavior. B.Her struggle to keep her classes in order.
C.Her inability to understand Greek words. D.Her students’ various educational backgrounds.
34.How did the author deal with the students’ request to leave before time at first?
A.She took it seriously. B.She refused it completely.
C.She permitted it immediately. D.She handled it gracefully.
35.How did the author feel the moment she spotted the three boys at the bus stop?
A.Embarrassed. B.Angry. C.Regretful. D.Concerned.
36.What lesson can teachers learn from the story?
A.Show students that you respect them.
B.Care about students’ emotional experiences.
C.Cooperate with students to improve learning.
D.Evaluate yourself first and the students second.
(2022春·湖南株洲·高一株洲二中校考期中)Fifteen years ago, I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic (全景的) view of the blue sea, white buildings and green olive trees, I paused to catch my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.
Unfortunately, just as I took out my camera, a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view. Like me, this woman was here to stop, sigh and appreciate the view.
Patient as I was, after about 15 minutes, my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take, I grew frustrated. Was it too much to ask her to move so I could take just one picture of the landscape? Sure, I could have asked her, but something prevented me from doing so. She seemed so content in her observation. I didn’t want to mess with that.
Another 15 minutes passed and I grew exhausted. The woman was still there. I decided to take the photo anyway. And now when I look at it, I think her presence in the photo is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful on its own, somehow comes to life and breathes because this woman is engaging with it.
This photo, with the unique beauty that unfolded before me and that woman who “ruined’ it, now hangs on a wall in my bedroom. What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured and frozen on some stranger’s bedroom wall? A bedroom, after all, is a very private space, in which some woman I don’t even know has been immortalized (使……永存). In some ways, she lives in my house.
Perhaps we all live in each other’s’ spaces. Perhaps this is what photos are for: to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.
That photo is a reminder, a captured moment, an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.
37.Why did the writer and the woman both came here?
A.To have fun together. B.To enjoy the beautiful scenery.
C.To take pictures of the landscape. D.To do research on the environment.
38.What made the writer feel annoyed?
A.The woman was too noisy. B.Her camera stopped working.
C.She was forbidden to take photos there. D.The woman blocked her view.
39.In the author’s opinion, what makes the photo so alive?
A.The rich color of the landscape. B.The perfect positioning of the camera.
C.The woman’s existence in the photo. D.The soft sunlight that summer day.
40.The passage can be seen as the author’s reflections on________
A.the art of photography. B.the friendship between two strangers.
C.the writer’s attitude to the landscape. D.a particular life experience of the writer.

After these years I started listening to my body. It was refusing food and habits that were bad for me.(一开始我没有减肥成功,但是我没有像过去那样放弃。
