I do think that a book can inspire ideas and ways of thinking that have the power to transform our lives. Here are some books to serve the purpose.
    Thinking, Fast and slow
Daniel Kahneman is a Nobel Prize winner who has written an amazing book that dives into the mysterious world of our conscious and unconscious thinking patterns. By reading this book, you’ll gain a deeper understanding about how to make decisions and react to certain things in your life. Yes, this is a super thick book that seems challenging, but somehow the author makes it accessible and really fun to read.
    The Power of Habit
Written by award-winning New York Times business reporter Charles Duhigg, this book is an awesome mix of research, stories, and revelations(启示) about habits: how we form them, how we can change them, and how knowledge about human habits is transforming everything.
    The Road Less Traveled
The first words in this classic and powerful book are: Life is difficult. Without hiding the true realities of life which is filled with conflicts, difficulties, and challenging decisions, M. Scott Peck guides us to a deeper level of self-understanding and creates a path we can follow to a fuller, more peaceful life.
    The Power of Now
The key message of the book is simple and powerful: The way to true happiness is through learning to live in the now, without reliving the past or racing to the future. Eckhart Tolle helps us understand how our thoughts and emotions get in the way and what to do about it.

A.Thinking, Fast and Slow B.The Power of Habit
C.The Power of Now D.The Road Less Traveled
5.What do these books above have in common?
    A.They are classic and refreshing.
    B.They are adventurous and challenging.
C.They are accessible and full of fun.

(2022春·天津·高二校联考期中)Dramas are usually called plays, and their creators are known as “playwrights” or “dramatists”. Some popular types of drama include comedy, tragedy, farce, opera and docudramas. Now, I’d like to tell you some popular types of drama.
Lighter in tone, comedies try to make the audience laugh and usually come to a happy ending. Comedies put unusual characters in special situations, causing them to do and say funny things. Comedies can also be sarcastic (讽刺的) in nature, creating fun serious topics. There are also several different types of comedy, including romantic comedy, a comedy of manners, and tragicomedy — plays in which the characters take on tragedy with humor while bringing serious situations to happy endings.
Tragedy is based on darker themes. Generally, tragedies show serious subjects like death, disaster, and human suffering in a way that makes the audience think. Hardly enjoying happy endings, characters in tragedies, like Shakespeare’s Hamlet, are often troubled by tragic character flaws (缺点) that finally lead to their death.
A farce is a type of drama in which characters overact and present physical humor. Examples of farce include the play Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett and the hit 1980 movie Airplane! written by David and Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams.
Opera is a type of drama which combines theater, dialogue, music, and dance to tell stories of tragedy or comedy. Since characters express their feelings through singing rather than dialogue, performers must be both skilled actors and singers. The tragedy La boheme by Giacomo Puccini, and the comedy Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi are classic examples of opera.
A docudrama is a relatively new kind of drama. Docudramas talk about historic events or non-fictional situations. More often presented in movies and television than in live theater, popular examples of docudramas include the movies Apollo 13 and Twelve Years a slave.
6.What do we know about comedies?
A.They don’t talk about serious topics.
B.They usually don’t have sad endings.
C.There’re always some arguments in them.
D.There’re four kinds of comedies mentioned.
7.What is a big feature of characters in tragedies?
A.They are often sarcastic in nature.
    B.They usually have character weaknesses.
C.They usually suffer a lot before their death.
D.They are remembered by their ways of thinking.
8.How would people most probably react when watching plays like Waiting for Godot?
    A.Upset. B.Cheerful. C.Worried. D.Thoughtful
9.In dramas like La boheme, performers are required to ________.
A.say something funny B.present physical humor
C.tell stories through dialogue D.be good at acting and singing
10.Who would most probably love watching docudramas?
    A.Girls loving romantic stories.
    B.Children loving funny stories.
    C.People interested in fictional situations.
D.People interested in true events in history.

(2022春·天津·高二校联考期中)On one day my grandma died, I went for a walk to clear my mind. The small purse I carried with me was a gift from her. The bag only weighted several pounds but it felt like I was dragging heavy luggage.
As I was walking, I spotted Mary who gave me an excited hug. She asked how I was. “How are you” is a question that can turn meaningless or meaningful, depending on how you answer it. I considered going the meaningless route. Then I remembered that she is a friend from church. We once celebrated an activity together. Maybe I could lean on her for some comfort. I explained that my grandma died and I was feeling in bad shape emotionally.
Mary expressed kind regards. Then she asked the question everyone asks when you tell them someone died, “Were you two close?” It’s the main standard that determines the appropriate size someone’s sadness can take. The answer to this question depends on how someone defines closeness. I tend to feel close to people I can have heart-to-heart with. I nodded to Mary and said, “Yeah, we were.”
She nodded back, playing her role in the cultural script (剧本)we all know. Mary gathered information about the funeral arrangements, and then we parted. Seeing her was a catalyst (催化剂) to my quickly getting in touch with my sorrow. I cried loudly on the street directly.
Later that night I texted my friend Roger to tell him what had happened. I expected a text back with sympathy. Instead, the phone rang. Soon he was asking me what my favorite song was. While I hesitated, he started singing the hymn, “It Is Well With My Soul.” He finished it and prayed for me over the phone. It really made me exhilarated. I felt that a heavy burden was removed. But I cried again because of the spiritual synchronization(同步). I didn’t share stories of my grandmother or try to explain my complicated emotions over the phone.
Then I realized that courtesy (客套话) is generally good practice, but it can’t compare to personalized, thoughtful communication. And that kind of pat statement really has no place if you want to make a real connection.
11.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.The author used to offer Mary advice to Mary.
B.The author and Mary enjoyed social activities.
C.The author and Mary often shared their secrets.
D.The author hesitated to turn to Mary for comfort.
12.Mary asked “Were you two close?” to ________.
A.judge how sad the author was
    B.determine what sadness it was
C.prove that they were close friends
D.see if the author needed comfort
13.From the fourth paragraph, we can know that ________.
A.Mary decided to attend the funeral
B.the author felt touched to see Mary
C.the author got no real comfort from Mary
D.Mary felt helpless about relieving the author’s pain
14.What does the underlined phrases “made me exhilarated” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.Cheered me up B.Made me satisfied
C.Let me down D.Kept me down
15.What does the author mainly want to express in the passage?
A.A friend in need is a friend indeed.
B.Spiritual communication is better than courtesy.
C.Crying is an effective way to ease people’s pain.
D.It’s hard to recover from the pain of losing a loved one.

(2022春·天津·高二校联考期中)Utah is the second most wasteful states in the US. Everyone always complains about how much construction there is all the time— on campus you can’t walk ten steps without running into another pit— but no one seems to be doing anything about it. Every year the city has a surplus of money and they spent it on unneeded road construction. Instead, this money should be spent on developing Utah’s solar energy capabilities (能力).
People may think that solar power technology isn’t advanced enough to sustain (维持) an entire state year-round. However, Utah is one of the six states in the country getting more than enough sunlight to run completely on solar power every year according to Solar Nation. For reference, one might look at places similar to the Hotel at Oberlin in Ohio, a hotel remodeled in the summer of 2016 to run completely on solar power. Anywhere west of Ohio has no excuse for not using solar energy.
Many think it would be bad for the economy to switch to solar power because electrical workers would lose their jobs. But this isn’t necessarily true. They could transfer to solar companies. Considering how many panels (电池板,面板) would need to be built and installed (安装) and maintained, there’s plenty of work for electrical workers. Solar panel installation may be expensive at first, but as it stands currently, solar panels are expected to pay for themselves within 11 years of installation, saving solar panel owners up to $700 in electric bills per house in the first year.
Moreover, we, the humans of planet Earth, would never run out of solar energy. The sun will exist long after humanity goes. And while solar panels may be expensive, they cost the Earth much less than using coal and natural gas.
It’s bad enough that Utah is the most wasteful when it comes to the use of water. And the city is killing its citizens with air pollution. But when we have the physical capability of making changes that will ultimately save the environment and deepen our pocketbooks (财力、钱袋子), and we don’t make those changes, we’re actually lazy rather than being cautious.
16.Which of the following statements would the author agree with?
A.Roads in Utah should be repaired.
B.Money should be better used in Utah.
C.Construction is very important to Utah.
D.Schools in Utah are really in poor condition.
17.Why does the author mention the Hotel at Oberlin in Ohio?
A.To explain how solar power is used in Ohio.
B.To show it is possible to use solar power in summertime.
C.To show solar power can be relied on year-round in Utah.
D.To prove many hotels are taking advantage of solar power.
18.According to Paragraph4, using solar energy can ________.
A.benefit the environment B.prevent waste in Utah
C.improve work efficient D.lead to many changes in Utah
19.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the passage?
A.To call on people to reduce energy waste.
B.To show us the importance of using solar energy.
C.To ask government to pay attention to air pollution.
D.To appeal to Utah officials to develop solar energy.
20.How does the author develop this passage?
    A.①②-③④-⑤ B.①-②③-④⑤
    C.①-②③④-⑤ D.①②③-④⑤

(2022春·天津北辰·高二统考期中)These days, being a teenager isn’t easy. Teens’ schedules often include doing after-school activities, sports practice, and homework, combined with working part-time for extra spending money or to contribute to household expenses, leaving many teens feeling overworked and stressed.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, close to a quarter of all U.S. high school students participate in the workforce. Most states place limits on the amount of hours teens can work, with 20 hours a week the standard limit. Research has shown that working over the standard limit negatively (负面地) affects teens in a variety of ways.
Researchers published a recent report finding that working more than 20 hours a week during the school year leads to academic problems. The more hours a student works, the more likely their grades are to be lower.
A study published in the Sociology of Education suggests that working more than 20 hours each week leads to higher dropout rates (辍学率). Another study in the American Educational Research Journal reports that students who work between 1 and 15 hours per week are more likely to complete high school; however, students who work more than 15 hours each week are more likely to drop out.
Working over the standard limit also causes sleepiness, which can be instrumental in the cause of injuries and deaths related to inattention while driving. It has been considered as a major cause in at least 100,000 police-reported traffic crashes each year, killing more than 1,500 Americans and injuring another 71,000, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Young drivers aged 25 or under are involved in more than one-half of fall-asleep crashes.
Work helps teens gain valuable experience, teaches them much needed skills, and provides necessary spending money—but basic rules should be followed. The student workweek should be limited to 20 hours or less and should not go past 10 p.m. on a school night. Safe and healthy youth work experiences don’t just happen—teens, parents, and employers must work together to make them happen.
21.What does the first paragraph tell us about today’s teens?
A.They are too busy. B.They are quite happy.
C.They have an exciting life. D.They have more confidence.
22.What percent of U.S. high school students work part-time according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics?
    A.About 15%. B.About 25%. C.About 35%. D.About 50%.
23.What is a possible result for a high schooler working two hours every day?
    A.Getting lower grades. B.Becoming a dropout.
C.Finishing high school. D.Having sleep problems.

    A.Result from. B.Contribute to. C.Refer to. D.Give away.
25.What is the author’s attitude to the standard 20-hour-a-week limit?
    A.Unfavorable. B.Worried. C.Uncaring. D.Supportive.

(2022春·天津·高二统考期中)I was walking down the street in a small town the other day and passed a couple sitting on a bench. “She must be 180 centimeters tall,” I heard the woman say to the man. I turned to look at them straight in the eye at once. I felt angry and awkward that they were talking about me and staring. The woman suddenly said, “Oh, she must understand Chinese.” “Yes, I do,” I replied. Then, they both smiled and laughed, and so did I.
This was yet another time in the town when strangers stared or talked about my appearance. It’s either because of my unusually tall height as a woman or because I am a foreigner. As a shy person, this makes me feel quite uncomfortable. I just want to fit in! I usually just try to ignore such people, but this time, as soon as I talked to the couple, they went from judgmental strangers to people I just shared a warm and funny moment with.
It reminded me how important it is to have the right attitude and to be understanding. There aren’t that many foreigners in the town, so it’s only natural that Chinese people here will feel curious about foreigners and how they look different. Although, when people stare at you it feels a bit hostile, but most people arc simply curious and may even want to chat with you.
In short, I can’t change this situation. The only thing I can change is my attitude toward it. Life is too short to be influenced by the little things. We need to enjoy each moment with a positive and open attitude!
26.What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A.The woman was speaking in Chinese.
B.The woman got angry with the author.
C.The author didn’t actually know Chinese.
D.The author didn’t feel happy in the end.
27.How did the author deal with this kind of situation before?
A.She just laughed back. B.She talked to the people.
C.She gave no attention. D.She shared a smile with them.
    28.In Paragraph 3, the author ______.
    A.expressed her anger again
B.described her life in a foreign town
C.put herself in other people’s shoes
D.explained why she came to the town
29.The underlined word “hostile” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to “______”.
    A.considerate B.unfriendly C.unimportant D.curious
30.What has the author learned from her experience?
A.Being a foreigner is not an easy thing.
B.Don’t judge people by their looks.
C.Don’t talk about others’ appearance in public.
D.We should have a positive and open attitude.

It is easy to get carried away in an argument.
While having a rational conversation with someone who has a different opinion might seem like a challenge, it is possible. One way is to approach the other person with empathy.
The Empathy Challenge is an exercise created by Zoe Chance, senior lecturer at the Yale School of Management. At Yale, Chance teaches a course called “Mastering Influence and Persuasion” where -students learn to communicate more effectively.
In her blog, Chance explains that it’s important to listen to people who disagree with you. “As they explain their position, you listen for their underlying values. Finally, you look for common ground as you reflect those values back. That’s it.”
Chance first took this challenge herself before asking her students to try. As she couldn’t understand why many people chose to vote for Donald Trump, she found three Trump’s voters and spoke with them.
Through asking questions, Chance was able to empathize with them and realize they had similar feelings. One man, an Orthodox Jew, explained that he supported Trump because Trump’s daughter and son-in-law are Jewish. The next man was a Russian immigrant passionate about freedom. The third was a lawyer who believed that authenticity(真诚) was important in political leaders.
Although Chance and Chose people had different political beliefs, they were able to relate to the life values of others. And that’s the point of the exercise-to understand others as fellow human beings.
36.Which of the following does the Empathy Challenge faces on?
    A.Leadership skills. B.Public speaking skills.
    C.Communication skills. D.Problem solving skills.
37.What does Chance suggest people do when handling a disagreement?
A.Defend their position. B.Find common ground.
C.Reflect on their own values. D.Meet the needs of others.
38.What do paragraphs 5-6 mainly talk about?
    A.The challenge of performing empathy.
    B.The importance of empathy.
    C.How Chance practiced empathy.
D.How Chance helped people develop empathy.
39.What drove the three men to vote for Donald Tramp?
A.Their life values. B.Their career history.
C.Their family background. D.Their childhood experience.
40.What’s the best title for the passage?
    A.Respect different perspectives B.Zoe Chance’s empathy
    C.Vote for Trump D.Chancels challenge

(2022春·天津·高二崇化中学校考期中)I’d done it before, and so I had no reason to believe that this time would be any different. I was sure of that when I returned home from my mission trip. As always, I’d bring, back nothing more than some mud on my boots. A hole or two in my jeans and, of course, a lot of great memories.
The summer before my high school graduation, I went to West Virginia with others as volunteers to repair the homes of those in need. Arriving at our destination, my group was assigned the task of rebuilding sections of a home that had been damaged by fire. No sooner had we parked on the home’s dirt driveway than we saw an excited little girl, no more than six years old, standing in the doorway of the family’s temporary home. Shoeless and wearing dirty clothes and the biggest smile I’d ever seen, she yelled, “Ma, Ma, they really came!” I didn’t know it then, but her name was Dakota, and four more days would pass before she’d say another word near me.
Behind Dakota was a woman in a wheelchair—her grandmother, we’d soon learn. I also discovered that my job that week would be to help change a fire—damaged dining room into a bedroom for this little girl. Over the following days, I noticed Dakota peeking at us every now and then, as we worked. A few times, I tried talking with her, but she remained shy and distant, always flying around us like a tiny butterfly but keeping to herself.
By our fifth and final day. however, this was about to change. Before I went to work on her home on that last morning, I spoke for a moment or two with the grandmother. I was especially pleased when she told me how much Dakota loved her new room—so much. As we talked, I noticed something I hadn’t seen before—Dakota was hiding behind her grandmother.
Cautiously, she stepped into view, and I could see that just like her clothes, her face was still dirty. But no amount of soil could hide those bright blue eyes and big smile. She was simply adorable. Slowly, she began walking toward me. It wasn’t until she was just inches away that I noticed the folded piece of paper in her tiny hand. Silently, she reached up and handed it to me. Once unfolded, I looked at the drawing she’d made with her broken crayons on the back of an old coloring book cover. It was of two girls—one much taller than the other—and they were holding hands. She told me it was supposed to be me and her, and on the bottom of the paper were three little words that instantly broke my heart. Now almost in tears, I couldn’t control myself anymore—I bent down and hugged her. She hugged me, too. And for the longest time, neither of us could let go.
I left for home early the next morning. I was returning with muddy boots and holes in my jeans. But because of Dakota, I brought back something else, too—a greater appreciation for all or the blessings of my life. I’ll never forget that barefoot little butterfly with the big smile and dirty face. I pray that she’ll never forget me either.

It’s good to make mistakes, and here is why.
First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that we are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things because when we are trying new things, we are growing. If we never try anything new, how can we improve? How can we expand? The simple answer is “We can’t.” Look around us. With very few exceptions, either everything you see in your physical world or every single detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying something new.
Another good thing about mistakes is this: When we are making mistakes, we are leaning. Consider this—Edison failed 10,000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, be said that he had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally, when we make a mistake, we are much closer to success. Why? Because when all is said and done, we will have tried some number of things before we succeeded. Every time we make a mistake, we eliminate one of those things and are one step closer.
But all this doesn’t mean that we should go through life without considering the consequences of a mistake. Quite the contrary, when we try something new, we have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that in the event that it doesn’t work out the way we want it to, we will be in a position to try again. we all have limited resources—in the form of time and money—so we shouldn’t blow them all on one approach to a problem. Realize that it probably won’t be perfect the first time and allocate these resources appropriately so we can learn, make corrections, and try it again. Only by accepting and using our mistakes in this way can we make significant advances in our lives.
There is an old saying that goes, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.” So go forth and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And prosper.

(2022春·天津·高二天津实验中学校考期中)Roger Conner is a modern-day Horatio Alger hero. Roger started out as an unpaid worker in a small flower shop. He has become the owner of a florist company whose sales are well over $100,000 a year.
One day when Roger was only twelve, he stopped at a local flower shop. He asked the owner if he could work for him, without pay, in order to learn the business. Roger started working every day after school and on weekends. After two years on the job, he finally asked for a small salary. The owners told him he “wasn’t good enough to be paid.” So he quit, and found a paying job at another local flower shop. He worked hard there, but after six months they laid him off because business was slow. Not discouraged, Roger decided to do it alone and started his own flower store in a basement. He started his business with only sixty-five dollars. He bought old refrigerators at garage sales and knocked the shelves out. This turned them into coolers for his fresh-cut flowers. His business grew rapidly as he built up a reputation for top quality and fine service.
In 1977, Roger bought out the flower store where he had worked without pay for over two years. The people who said he “wasn’t good enough” were astonished to find that they were being taken over by a teenager. He had plans to renovate (整修) the whole store.
One of the reasons the owners sold out to Roger was that the store wasn’t doing well. But after Roger took over ownership and redid the store, business started booming. In fact, business was so good that after one year, he celebrated by buying out the other store where he had worked. Roger then combined both stores and moved to a location in the center of his town.
The new store has 2,000 square feet and seven employees. And he did it all before he reached the age of twenty.

(2022春·天津·高二天津实验中学校考期中)A friend of mine, in response to a conversation we were having about the injustices of life, asked me the question, “Who said life was going to be fair, or that it was even meant to be fair?” Her question was a good one. It reminded me of something I was taught as a youngster: life isn’t fair. It’s a disappointment, but it’s absolutely true. One of the mistakes many of us make is that we feel sorry for ourselves, or for others, thinking that life should be fair, or that someday it will be. It’s not and it won’t be.
One of the nice things about surrendering (屈从) to the fact that life isn’t fair is that it keeps us from feeling sorry for ourselves by encouraging us to do the very best we can with what we have. We know it’s not “life’s job” to make everything perfect, it’s our own challenge. Surrendering to this fact also keeps us from feeling sorry for others because we are reminded that everyone is dealt differently; everyone has unique strengths and problems in the process of growing up, facing the reality and making decisions; and everyone has those times that they feel unfairly treated.
The fact that life isn’t fair doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do everything in our power to improve our own lives or the world as a whole. To the contrary, it suggests that we should. When we don’t recognize or admit that life isn’t fair, we tend to feel pity for others and for ourselves. Pity, of course, is a self-defeating emotion that does nothing for anyone, except to make everyone feel worse than they already do. When we do recognize that life isn’t fair, however, we feel enthusiastic for others and for ourselves. And enthusiasm is a heartfelt emotion that conveys loving-kindness to everyone it touches.
The next time you find yourself thinking about the injustices of the world, try reminding yourself of this very basic fact. You may be surprised that it can make you out of self-pity and into helpful action.
56.The author thought of his friend’s question as a good one because ________.
A.he also wanted to know who held such an opinion B.it made him recall something during his childhood
C.like his friend, he also thought life was unfair D.he learned something from the question as a youngster
57.Surrendering to the fact that life isn’t fair will ________.
A.keep us from making everything perfect B.keep us from doing everything in our power
C.make us face unfair treatment bravely D.make us know it’s our duty to perfect things
58.The second paragraph of the passage mainly tells us that ________.
A.it’s nice to accept the injustice of life B.it’s nice to surrender to the life
C.we should not surrender to the life D.we should not feel sorry for everything
59.In the last paragraph, “this very basic fact” refers to the fact that ________.
A.you should not pity for others B.life isn’t and won’t be fair
    C.compassion is heartfelt emotion D.pity is a self-defeating emotion
60.According to the author, when recognizing life injustice, you may ________.
A.take measures to solve life problem B.feel pity to other people
C.do nothing to improve our life D.receive enthusiasm from others

(2022春·天津·高二耀华中学校考期中)A major new facility to pull CO2 out of the atmosphere has started operating in Iceland, which is a boost to an emerging technology that experts say could eventually play an important role in reducing greenhouse gases.
The plant in southwest Iceland is the biggest of its kind, its builder says. It is able to capture 900 tons of CO2 every year but it needs heat and electricity to work. It is using energy produced from waste and is built on the roof of a waste incineration plant, and through the burning of rubbish, energy is generated.
Human-sized fans are built into a series of boxes. They take CO2 out of the air, catching it in spongelike filters (过滤器). The filters are blasted with heat, freeing the gas, which is then mixed with water and pumped deep into deep underground basalt caves, where over time it turns into dark-gray stone. Pumping CO2 into the ground is just one way to deal with it. The makers are also selling the gas to be used again. The CO2 can be captured just a few 100 miles away. It is pumped through an underground pipeline directly into a greenhouse. Vegetables and plants love CO2 and higher concentrations of the gas within the greenhouse improve the growth of plants.
By 2050, humanity will need to pull nearly a billion metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere every year through direct air capture technology to achieve carbon neutral goals, according to International Energy Agency recommendations. The plant in Iceland will be able to capture 4000 metric tons annually — just a small amount of what will be necessary, but an engineer in Climeworks, the company that built it, says it can grow rapidly as efficiency improves and costs decrease.
“This is a market that does not yet exist, but a market that urgently needs to be built,” said Christoph Gebald who co-founded Climeworks. “This plant that we have here is really the blueprint to further increase the size and really industrialize.”
66.What do we know about the carbon capture facility from paragraph 2?
A.It is built at high altitudes. B.It uses waste to produce power.
C.It makes Iceland free of air pollution. D.lt produces lots of heat during operation.
67.What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.The methods of breaking down CO2.
B.The approaches to reusing waste gas.
    C.The necessity of building greenhouses.
D.The workings of the carbon-catching plant.
68.What can we expect from the future carbon capture technology?
A.It will decrease the cost of energy production.
B.It can help reach the carbon neutral goals in advance.
C.It will speed up the reduction of CO2 levels in the air.
D.It may replace the traditional carbon storage system.
69.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The capture of CO2 in the atmosphere is able to kill many birds with one stone.
B.CO2 will be delivered to greenhouses after being turned into dark-gray stones.
C.A major new market to pull CO2 out of the atmosphere has started operating.
D.The plants in Iceland greenhouses can capture a small amount of CO2.
70.What is Christoph Gebald’s attitude towards building the plants?
    A.Ambiguous. B.Neutral.
    C.Disapproving. D.Supportive.

(2022春·天津·高二耀华中学校考期中)My phone chirped, alerting me to a text message from a friend. It was about the disaster that is 2020. My daughter Julia read it aloud. “I’m not adding this year to my age since I didn’t use it.”
“I’m on board with that,” I said. “It feels like the whole world is on pause, and nothing we do right now matters in the long run. Everything is closed, and we spend all day at home staring at screens.”
Julia nodded. “I’m already accepted into college, so my grades don’t matter. I can’t see my friends either. The restaurant where I work is closed, and if you’re not an essential worker, it’s fine to just watch Netflix and eat snacks all day.”
The next morning, my friend texted me again. “The worst purchase I’ve ever made was a 2020 planner.”
I laughed and showed it to Julia. To my surprise, she didn’t laugh. Instead, she said, “I’m going upstairs to get my 2020 planner. You need to grab yours, too.”
It took me a few minutes to locate it because it had been weeks since I had any actual plans to keep track of.
When I went back downstairs, Julia pointed to the open page in her planner in her own handwriting. “I just read over my new year resolutions for 2020. The virus does make it seem like the world is on pause, but we can still move forward with a lot of our goals.”
I found my 2020 To-Do List, full of goals for getting healthy, tidying my home, and being a better wife and mother.
When the pandemic first started, I’d spent hours each day watching the news, feeling anxious and scared all the time. Eventually, I realized that I needed to cut back on it. But instead of turning off the TV altogether, I watched movies. My only goal was to get through the day until life got back to normal.
    I nodded. “I’m in.”
She laid our lists on the table, side by side. “I see that one of your 2020 goals was to spend a lot of time with me before I leave for college, while one of my goals was to learn to cook before I move out.” She smiled. “There’s a significant amount of overlap there.”
I laughed, feeling better than I had in months. “I’d love to teach you to cook.”
“Joining a gym is not going to happen obviously, but I’ll find some fitness apps on my phone.”
“I’d be happy just going for a daily walk with you.” I said. “Cleaning out closets and drawers and finally getting this house organized has been a goal of mine for years. We can work on that one together, too.”
I made the first entry in my planner in months: Go for a walk. Clean out a drawer. Look for some recipes suitable for a beginner cook, feeling my spirits lift.
As the days went on, my house got a little cleaner, Julia grew into a proficient cook, and the number on my bathroom scale got a little better.
Although the world was grieving during a pandemic, what we did as individuals still mattered. We could still take small steps each day to move forward on our goals, and every step in the right direction counts. When we feel the least like doing something productive is when we need to do it the most—not to complete the task itself but to give purpose to our day and remind ourselves that we are capable of big things.

A.She was anxious to pursue her study. B.She was satisfied to stay at home.
C.She accepted the fact and live with it. D.She was fed up with the snacks all day.
73.Why didn’t Julia laugh after reading the second text?
A.Because she felt it was not so funny to laugh.
B.Because she was reminded of her own planner.
C.Because she wanted to learn how to cook then.
D.Because her planner was her worst purchase too.
74.What did the “overlap” inspire the author and her daughter to do?
A.To check the resolutions off and remove them together.
B.To weigh the advantages and disadvantages of the goals.
C.To accomplish the common goals by joint efforts.
D.To compare their lists and find better ones to do.
75.Which statement will the author probably agree with?
A.At the mercy of tough situations, individuals’ efforts hardly matter.
B.Resolutions are easier said than done in most cases.
C.We should slow down to keep pace with the pandemic.
D.Every little progress will add up to a big difference.

(2022春·天津·高二天津市宁河区芦台第一中学校考期中)I tend to go slowly when I drive in the mountains of my home, because the forest scenery is beautiful no matter what the season. This morning I was driving slower than usual because an early March snow had turned the roads slippery. Going up a mountain road, I had to slow down as I rounded a sharp, snowy curve (弯道). That was when I saw a majestic buck deer (公鹿) standing in the middle of the road. I came to a full stop and for a few seconds we just stared at each other. His eyes seemed wise and his composure (镇静) refined. Finally, he nodded his head at me. I nodded in return and motioned with my hand for him to go on. He then leapt across the road, up the hill, and back into the woods. I drove on smiling at the magic of this moment and thanked that I had been going slowly enough not to hit this beautiful creature.
Most of us rush through this life not knowing what we are missing. We rarely get to enjoy what each day brings us. Wouldn’t it be better to go slowly through our days here? Life is meant to be savored. Moments are meant to be cherished. Days are meant to be lived in love and joy not flown through at a frantic (疯狂的) speed.
The next time you find yourself going too fast, slow down. Take the time to watch the sun rise over the horizon and fill the world with light. Take the time to look your children in their eyes, hug them, and tell them that you love them. Take the time to smile, laugh, and sing. Take the time to read, lounge (闲逛), and relax. (2022春·天津·高二校联考期中)Bowhead whales can live 200 years or longer. How they do it is no longer among the secrets of the deep.
Scientists have mapped the genetic code of this long lived whale species. The international effort found unusual features in the Arctic whale’s genes. Those features likely protect the species against cancer and other problems related to old age. The researchers hope their findings will one day translate into ways to help people too.
“We hope to learn what is the secret of bowhead whales living longer, healthier lives,” says Joao Pedru de Magalhes. He is a gerontologist  at the University of Liverpool in England. (Gerontology is the scientific study of old age. ) He is also a co-author of the study that appeared in Cell Reports. His team hopes, he says, that its new findings might one day be used to improve human health and preserve human life.
No other mammals are known to live as long as the bowhead whales. Scientists have shown that some of these whales have lived well beyond 100 — including one that survived to 216. For perspective, if he were still alive, Abraham Lincoln would be turning just 211 this year.
Dr. Magalhäes’ team wanted to understand how the bowhead can live so long. To find out this, the experts analyzed the animal’s complete set of genes, called its genome. Those instructions are coded in the animal’s DNA.The team also compared the whale’s genome to that of people, mice and cows.
The scientists discovered differences, including mutations, in the whale’s genes. Those changes are linked to cancer, aging and cell growth. The results suggest that the whales are better than humans at repairing their DNA.That’s important because damaged or flawed DNA can lead to disease, including some cancers.
Bowhead whales are also better at keeping abnormally dividing cells in check. Together, the changes appear to allow bowhead whales to live longer without developing age related diseases such as cancer, said Magalhäes.
86.What can you know from the passage?
A.How bowhead whales five so long is still a mystery to scientists.
B.Bowhead whales live the longest among all the sea animals.

A.Lincoln died one hundred years age B.Lincoln should have lived much longer.
C.the lifetime of bowhead whales is very long. D.their study unlocked the secret of Lincoln’s death.
88.The bowhead whale can live so long mainly because ________.
A.it faces little danger in its life
B.its DNA has a strong ability of self-repairing
C.it has a complete set of genetic instructions
D.its living environment is better than that of humans
89.The underlined word “flawed” is the closest in meaning to________.
    A.Disabled B.Changed C.Misled D.repaired

B.scientists have found ways to treat humans’ disease
C.scientists have new findings in search of bow head whales
D.bowhead whales may unlock the secrets of a long, healthy life

(2022春·天津·高二天津市宁河区芦台第一中学校考期中)Though diet and exercise are recommended as ways to improve health, new UCR research is the first to examine the long-lasting, combined effects of both factors when they are experienced early in life. “Any time you go to a doctor with concerns about your weight, almost without fail, the doctor recommends that you exercise and eat less,” said researcher Marcell Cadney. “That’s why it’s surprising most studies only look at diet or exercise separately. In this study, we wanted to include both,” he said.
The researchers found that early-life exercise led to reduced anxious behaviors and an increase in adult muscle and brain mass. When fed Western-style diets high in fat and sugar, the mice not only became fatter, but also grew into adults that preferred unhealthy food.
To obtain the findings, the researchers divided the young mice into four groups-those with access to exercise, those without access, those fed a standard, healthy diet and those who ate a Western diet. Mice started on their diets immediately after weaning (断奶), and continued with them for three weeks until they reached adulthood. After an additional eight weeks of “washout”, during which all mice were housed without wheels and on a healthy diet, the researchers did a behavioral analysis and measured levels of several different hormones.
One of those they measured, leptin, is produced by fat cells. It helps control bodyweight by increasing energy consumption and signaling that less food is required. Early-life exercise increased adult leptin levels in adult mice, regardless of the diet they ate.
Previously, the research team found that eating too much fat and sugar as a child can change the microbiome (微生物群) for life, even if they later eat healthier. Going forward, the team plans to study whether fat or sugar is more responsible for the negative effects they measured in Western-diet-fed mice.
This study offers great opportunities for health interventions in childhood habits. “Our findings may be related to understanding the potential effects of activity reductions and dietary changes associated with overweight,” said Marcell.
91.What is special about the new UCR research?
A.It finds the relation between health and diet.
B.It is the first to study the effect of exercise.
C.It takes both exercise and diet into account.
D.It gives equal importance to physical and mental health.
92.What may early-life exercise contribute to?
    A.Stronger bones. B.A peaceful mind.

Modern technology has a strong influence on every part of our life, including the education in the universities.
Ashok Goel, a professor of Georgia Institute of Technology, says he uses the Internet in almost all of the classes he teaches. Every term over 300 graduate students take his class on artificial intelligence The students never meet in person. All of the classes take place online — through a website, which lets students ask questions and complete their work from anywhere in the world.
Having hundreds of students in a class means Ashok Goel has to answer thousands of questions. He has eight teaching assistants to help him. But even that is not enough to give all the students the help they need.
So, in January, Goel had an idea. He decided to try an experiment. At the start of the spring 2016 term, he added a new member to his teaching team: Jill Watson. She was able to answer questions faster than most other teaching assistants. And she was available 24 hours a day.
It was only at the end of the term that Goel’s students learned Watson’s true identity: she was not a real person like the other teaching assistants. Jill Watson was an AI computer program.
And it seems Goel’s stories will become more common in the universities.
A website called Campus Technology publishes stories about how colleges and universities use new technology. In August, the site published a survey of over 500 professors and their use of technology. Fifty-five percent of the professors asked students to use study materials online before coming to class. And, more than 70 percent combined (使相结合) online materials and face-to-face teaching in their classrooms.
96.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.Goel seldom uses the Internet in his class. B.The students take Goel’s class online.
C.Goel occasionally meets his colleagues. D.Goel’s students dislike going to college.
97.Why does Goel have many teaching assistants to help him?
A.He is not a clever professor. B.He wants to have a good sleep.
C.He does not want to give answers. D.He has no time to answer all the questions.
98.What can we know about Jill Watson?
A.She was a real person. B.She helped Goel with his work.
C.She was one of Goel’s students. D.She could ask all the questions.
99.What does the underlined word “identity” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
    A.Who a person is. B.The name of a person.
    C.Where a person is from. D.A person’s contribution.
100.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Ashok Goel has eight assistants to help him.
B.New technology is changing our way of living.
C.Modern technology greatly influences college education.
D.Teachers will be completely replaced by the computers.

根据文章第二段“Lighter in tone, comedies try to make the audience laugh and usually come to a happy ending.”(喜剧的基调比较轻松,试图让观众发笑,通常会有一个皆大欢喜的结局。)
根据文章第三段“Hardly enjoying happy endings, characters in tragedies, like Shakespeare’s Hamlet, are often troubled by tragic character flaws (缺点) that finally lead to their death.”(悲剧中的人物,比如莎士比亚的哈姆雷特,很难享受幸福的结局,他们经常被悲惨的性格缺陷所困扰,最终导致他们的死亡。)
根据文章第四段“A farce is a type of drama in which characters overact and present physical humor. Examples of farce include the play Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett and the hit 1980 movie Airplane! written by David and Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams.”(闹剧是一种戏剧类型,其中人物夸张表演并表现出肢体幽默。
根据第五段“Since characters express their feelings through singing rather than dialogue, performers must be both skilled actors and singers. The tragedy La boheme by Giacomo Puccini, and the comedy Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi are classic examples of opera.”(由于角色通过唱歌而不是对话来表达感情,表演者必须是熟练的演员和歌手。

由文章第二段“She asked how I was. ‘’How are you’ is a question that can turn meaningless or meaningful, depending on how you answer it. I considered going the meaningless route. Then I remembered that she is a friend from church. We once celebrated an activity together. Maybe I could lean on her for some comfort.(她问我怎么样。‘你好吗’是一个可能变得毫无意义或有意义的问题,这取决于你如何回答它。我考虑选走无意义的路线。)”可知,作者刚开始是没有想向Mary倾诉来寻求安慰的。故选D项。
12.细节理解题。由文章第三段“‘Were you two close?’ It’s the main standard that determines the appropriate size someone’s sadness can take. (‘’你们俩关系亲密吗?’这是决定一个人悲伤程度的主要标准。)”可知,Mary问这问题来判断作者有多伤心。故选A项。
由文章第四段“She nodded back, playing her role in the cultural script (剧本)we all know. Mary gathered information about the funeral arrangements, and then we parted. Seeing her was a catalyst (催化剂) to my quickly getting in touch with my sorrow. I cried loudly on the street directly.(她点了点头,扮演了我们在剧本中都知道的(客套关心别人的)角色。玛丽收集了有关葬礼安排的信息,然后我们分手了。看到她是我很快与悲伤取得联系的催化剂。我直接在街上放声大哭。)”可知,作者没有在Mary那里获得安慰。故选C项。
14.词句猜测题。由文章第五段“I felt that a heavy burden was removed. But I cried again because of the spiritual synchronization.(我觉得一个沉重的负担减轻了。但我又哭了,因为精神上找到和我共鸣的人了。)”可知,作者找到能真正能体会她感受的人,所以应是很高兴的。所以猜测made me exhilarated表“让我高兴”。故选A项。
由文章最后一段“Then I realized that courtesy (客套话) is generally good practice, but it can’t compare to personalized, thoughtful communication. And that kind of pat statement really has no place if you want to make a real connection.(然后我意识到客套话通常是很好的做法,但它不能与个性化、周到的沟通相比。如果你想建立一个真正的联系,那么客套话真的没有任何意义。)”可知,作者想表达精神上的沟通胜过客套话。故选B项。

    【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章主要阐述犹他州应投资资金开发太阳能的观点并论述。
16.细节理解题。由文章第一段“Utah is the second most wasteful states in the US. Everyone always complains about how much construction there is all the time— on campus you can’t walk ten steps without running into another pit— but no one seems to be doing anything about it. Every year the city has a surplus of money and they spent it on unneeded road construction. Instead, this money should be spent on developing Utah’s solar energy capabilities.(犹他州是美国第二个最浪费的州。每个人总是抱怨那里的建筑量太多——在校园里,你走十步路都会碰到另一个坑——但似乎没有人对此采取任何措施。每年,这个城市都有多余的钱,他们把钱花在了不必要的道路建设上。相反,这笔钱应该用于开发犹他州的太阳能能力)”可知,作者认为犹他州把钱浪费在不必要的建筑上面,认为钱应该更好用在其它方面。故选B项。
17.推理判断题。由文章第二段“However, Utah is one of the six states in the country getting more than enough sunlight to run completely on solar power every year according to Solar Nation. For reference, one might look at places similar to the Hotel at Oberlin in Ohio, a hotel remodeled in the summer of 2016 to run completely on solar power. (然而,据solar Nation报道,犹他州是全美六个阳光充足的州之一,每年完全依靠太阳能发电。作为参考,我们可以看看与俄亥俄州奥伯林酒店(Hotel at Oberlin)相似的地方,这家酒店于2016年夏天进行了改造,完全使用太阳能)”可知,作者举例 Hotel at Oberlin 是为了证明犹他州全年都可以依靠太阳能。故选C项。
18.推理判断题。由文章最后一段“Moreover, we, the humans of planet Earth, would never run out of solar energy. The sun will exist long after humanity goes. And while solar panels may be expensive, they cost the Earth much less than using coal and natural gas.(此外,我们地球上的人类永远不会耗尽太阳能。人类走后,太阳会存在很久。虽然太阳能电池板可能很昂贵,但它们比使用煤炭和天然气要便宜得多)”可知,相对于煤矿和天然气燃烧导致污染,太阳能更环保,让地球做出的代价更少。故选A项。
由文章第一段“Instead, this money should be spent on developing Utah’s solar energy capabilities (相反,这笔钱应该用于开发犹他州的太阳能)”以及最后一段“ But when we have the physical capability of making changes that will ultimately save the environment and deepen our pocketbooks (财力、钱袋子), and we don’t make those changes, we’re actually lazy rather than being cautious.(但是,当我们有能力做出改变,最终拯救环境并让我们的钱包里钱多,而我们没有做出这些改变时,我们实际上是懒惰而不是谨慎)”可知,作者写这篇文章的目的是呼吁犹他州官员开发太阳能。故选D项。
分析文章结构可知,文章第一段作者提出自己观点this money should be spent on developing Utah’s solar energy capabilities.(相反,这笔钱应该用于开发犹他州的太阳能);中间三段分别 以However,But和Moreover进一步论述自己的观点;最后一段总结升华作者观点But when we have the physical capability of making changes that will ultimately save the environment and deepen our pocketbooks , and we don’t make those changes, we’re actually lazy rather than being cautious.(但是,当我们有能力做出改变,最终拯救环境并让我们的钱包里钱多,而我们没有做出这些改变时,我们实际上是懒惰而不是谨慎)。

根据划线词前的句子“Working over the standard limit also causes sleepiness(工作超过标准限度也会导致嗜睡)”以及划线词后的句子“It has been considered as a major cause in at least 100,000 police-reported traffic crashes each year, killing more than 1,500 Americans and injuring another 71,000, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. (据美国国家公路交通安全管理局的数据,它被认为是每年至少10万起警察报告的交通事故的主要原因,导致1500多名美国人死亡,另有7.1万人受伤)”可知,工作超过标准限度也会导致瞌睡,而瞌睡导致1500多名美国人死亡,另有7.1万人受伤。即表示瞌睡是导致死亡和事故的主要原因,由此推知,划线词组contribute to意为“导致”。故选B。
25.推理判断题。通读全文并结合最后一段中“The student workweek should be limited to 20 hours or less and should not go past 10 p.m. on a school night. (学生每周的工作时间应限制在20小时或更少,而且不应超过晚上10点)”可推知,作者是支持这个标准限度的。故选D。

53.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段的“Roger Conner is a modern-day Horatio Alger hero. Roger started out as an unpaid worker in a small flower shop. He has become the owner of a florist company whose sales are well over $100,000 a year.(Roger Conner是当代的Horatio Alger英雄。罗杰一开始在一家小花店做无薪工人。他已经成为一家花店公司的老板,每年的销售额超过10万美元。)”可知,本文介绍了Roger Conner的成功之路,并告诉我们成功靠的是努力和刻苦,目的是鼓励人们要脚踏实地工作,才能获得成功,该类讲述激励故事的文章最有可能是从报纸上摘录下来的,故选A。
54.细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段“One of the reasons the owners sold out to Roger was that the store wasn’t doing well. But after Roger took over ownership and redid the store, business started booming. In fact, business was so good that after one year, he celebrated by buying out the other store where he had worked.(老板们把公司卖给罗杰的原因之一是商店经营得不好。但罗杰接手并重新装修了这家店后,生意开始红火起来。事实上,生意非常好,一年后,他买下了他曾经工作过的另一家店,以示庆祝。)”可知,在生意不好的时候把店买下来,说明他很勇敢,同时他努力地经营并使得生意很好,说明他是一个聪明的人,而不是一个狡猾的年轻人,因此B选项是不正确的,故选B。
55.推理判断题。根据文章第一段“Roger Conner is a modern-day Horatio Alger hero. Roger started out as an unpaid worker in a small flower shop. He has become the owner of a florist company whose sales are well over $100,000 a year.(Roger Conner是当代的Horatio Alger英雄。Roger一开始在一家小花店做无薪工人。他已经成为一家花店公司的老板,每年的销售额超过10万美元。)”可知,Horatio Alger hero就是像Roger这种刚开始很穷,后来变得富有的人,故选C。

57.细节理解题。根据第二段的“One of the nice things about surrendering (屈从) to the fact that life isn’t fair is that it keeps us from feeling sorry for ourselves by encouraging us to do the very best we can with what we have. We know it’s not “life’s job” to make everything perfect, it’s our own challenge.(接受生活不公平这一事实的好处之一是,它鼓励我们尽己所能做到最好,从而使我们不再自怨自怜。我们知道,让一切尽善尽美不是“生活的工作”,这是我们自己的挑战。)”可知,承认生活是不公平的这一事实会让我们知道完善事物是我们的责任,故选D。
58.主旨大意题。根据文章第二段“One of the nice things about surrendering (屈从) to the fact that life isn’t fair is that it keeps us from feeling sorry for ourselves by encouraging us to do the very best we can with what we have.(接受生活不公平这一事实的好处之一是,它鼓励我们尽己所能做到最好,从而使我们不再自怨自怜。)” 故选A。
根据倒数第二段的“The fact that life isn’t fair doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do everything in our power to improve our own lives or the world as a whole.(虽然生活是不公平的,但这并不意味着我们不应该尽我们所能去改善自己的生活或整个世界。)”

To the contrary, it suggests that we should.(虽然生活是不公平的,但这并不意味着我们不应该尽我们所能去改善自己的生活或整个世界。

Your education is nationally recognized!部分第一段的“Nearly 2,000 American companies — including General Electric, IBM, Mobile, General Motors, Ford, and many others — have used our training for their employees. If companies like these recognize the value of our training, you can be sure that employees in your area will, too!(将近2000家美国公司——包括通用电气、IBM、移动、通用汽车、福特和许多其他公司——已经在他们的员工中使用了我们的培训。如果像这样的公司认识到我们培训的价值,你可以肯定你所在领域的员工也会认识到!)”可知,这则广告的作者点名通用电气、IBM、福特等公司是为了证明他们在各个领域的训练的价值。故选C。
64.推理判断题。根据第一段“Have you ever wondered what a Degree might be worth to you in your job or career? It means a lot of Americans with an Associate Degree average nearly $10,000 more in yearly earning than those with just a High School Diploma.(你有没有想过学位对你的工作或职业有什么价值?这意味着许多拥有副学士学位的美国人的年平均收入比那些只有高中文凭的人多出近1万美)”和Your education is nationally recognized!部分第三段“Prepare for promotions, pay raises, even start a business of your own!(准备好升职、加薪,甚至自己创业吧!)”

Then write in the name and number of the one program you’re most interested in, and mail it today.(只需在上面的优惠券上填写您的姓名和地址。 ,倒数第四段的“Or call the number below(拨打以下电话)”,“www.Harcourt-learning.com”和“E-mail: Harcourt@learning.com(电子邮箱:Harcourt@learning.com)”可知,广告中提到了四种和Harcourt Learning Direct联系的方法,故选D。

根据第二段第三句“It is using energy produced from waste and is built on the roof of a waste incineration plant, and through the burning of rubbish, energy is generated.(建在垃圾焚烧厂的屋顶上,它利用垃圾产生的能量,而且是通过焚烧垃圾产生了能量。)”
根据第三段前三句“Human-sized fans are built into a series of boxes. They take CO2 out of the air, catching it in sponge like filters(过滤器). The filters are exploded with heat, freeing the gas, which is then mixed with water and pumped(用泵输送) into deep underground caves, where over time it turns into dark-gray stone. Pumping CO2 into the ground is just one way to deal with it(人体大小的风扇内置在一系列盒子中。它们把二氧化碳从空气中带走,用海绵状的过滤器将其过滤掉。过滤器受热爆炸,释放出气体,然后与水混合并泵送进入地下深处的洞穴,随着时间的推移,它会变成深灰色的石头。将二氧化碳泵入地下只是一种处理方法)可知,本段主要是介绍捕捉二氧化碳的工厂是怎样工作的。故选D项。
68.推理判断题。根据文章的倒数第二段第一句话“By 2050,humanity will need to pull nearly a billion metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere every year through direct air capture technology to achieve carbon neutral goals,(到2050年,人类将需要通过直接空气捕捉技术每年从大气中吸收近10亿吨二氧化碳,以实现碳中和目标,)可知,未来的碳捕集技术将加速降低空气中的二氧化碳水平。故选C项。
根据第三段最后三句“The CO2 can be captured just a few 100 miles away. It is pumped through an underground pipeline directly into a greenhouse. Vegetables and plants love CO2 and higher concentrations of the gas within the greenhouse improve the growth of plants.(二氧化碳可以在100英里外被捕获。它通过地下管道直接泵入温室。蔬菜和植物喜欢二氧化碳,温室内较高浓度的气体可以促进植物的生长。)”可知,捕捉二氧化碳不仅能够保护环境、减少污染,还能够帮助蔬菜植物的生长,可谓一举多得。故选A项。
根据文章的最后一段Christoph Gebald说的话“This plant is really the blueprint to further increase the size and really industrialize.(这座工厂确实是进一步扩大规模和真正工业化的蓝图)”可知,作者持支持态度。A.

根据第三段的“I’m already accepted into college, so my grades don’t matter. I can’t see my friends either. The restaurant where I work is closed, and if you’re not an essential worker, it’s fine to just watch Netflix and eat snacks all day.(我已经被大学录取了,所以我的成绩不重要。我也看不到我的朋友。我工作的餐厅已经关门了,如果你不是必要员工,你可以整天看Netflix和吃零食。)”可知,对于她的学习和工作,Julia接受了现实,故选C。
73.推理判断题。根据第五段的“Instead, she said, “I’m going upstairs to get my 2020 planner. You need to grab yours, too.”(相反,她说:“我要上楼去拿我的2020年计划表。你也要去拿你的。”)”可知,Julia看完第二条短信后没有笑是因为她想起了自己的计划表。故选B。
74.推理判断题。根据倒数第六段的“I laughed, feeling better than I had in months. “I’d love to teach you to cook.”(我笑了,感觉比几个月来都好。“我很乐意教你做饭。”)”,倒数第五段的““Joining a gym is not going to happen obviously, but I’ll find some fitness apps on my phone.”(“加入健身房显然不会发生,但我会在手机上找到一些健身应用程序。”)”,倒数第四段的““I’d be happy just going for a daily walk with you.” I said. “Cleaning out closets and drawers and finally getting this house organized has been a goal of mine for years. 75.推理判断题。根据最后一段的“We could still take small steps each day to move forward on our goals, and every step in the right direction counts. When we feel the least like doing something productive is when we need to do it the most—not to complete the task itself but to give purpose to our day and remind ourselves that we are capable of big things.(我们仍然可以每天迈出一小步,朝着我们的目标前进,每一步都是正确的。当我们觉得最不想做某件有成效的事情时,正是我们最需要做这件事的时候——不是为了完成任务本身,而是为了给我们的生活赋予目标,提醒自己我们有能力做大事。)”可知,作者可能会同意的观点是每一个微小的进步都会累积成巨大的差异。故选D。

They offered to pull my car to a gas station.(突然,我发现汽油快用完了。 故选A。
根据第三段的“I returned to my car and found that the battery was dead.( 我回到我的车里,发现电池没电了。)”
根据倒数第二段的“When I got home, I wrote a note to thank him. I received a letter back from the salesman. He said no one had ever taken the time to write him a note of thanks and it meant a lot.( 回到家后,我写了张便条感谢他。我收到了推销员的回信。他说从来没有人花时间给他写感谢信,这对他意义重大。)”可知,推销员收到作者的感谢信,说他从来没有收到过感谢信,这对他意义重大,因此推断他肯定是感动的。故选A。
    81.C    82.A    83.B    84.C    85.D

根据文章第一段的最后一句“I drove on smiling at the magic of this moment and thanked that I had been going slowly enough not to hit this beautiful creature. (我继续开着车,为这神奇的时刻微笑着,感谢自己开得足够慢,没有撞到这个美丽的生物)”可知,作者感谢自己开得够慢,没有撞到公鹿。故选C。
82.推理判断题。根据第二的段“Most of us rush through this life not knowing what we are missing. We rarely get to enjoy what each day brings us. Wouldn’t it be better to go slowly through our days here?(我们大多数人匆匆忙忙地过着这一生,却不知道自己错过了什么。我们很少能享受每一天带给我们的东西。在这里慢慢度过我们的日子不是更好吗?)”推知,作者在第一段讲述自己因开车很慢和一头鹿偶遇的故事是为了说明,如果我们匆匆忙忙可能会错过一些美好的东西。故选A。
根据画线词前句“We rarely get to enjoy what each day brings us(我们很少能享受每一天带给我们的)”和后文“Days are meant to be lived in love and joy not flown through at a crazy speed(日子应该生活在爱和欢乐中,而不是在疯狂的速度中飞逝)”可知,作者认为日子应该生活在爱和欢乐中度过,生活是用来享受的,而不是飞快度过的。
根据文章第一段第二句“This morning I was driving slower than usual because an early March snow had turned the roads slippery(今天早上我开车比平时慢,因为三月初的一场雪把路面弄得很滑)”可知,作者开车很慢是因为雪让路变得很滑。故选C。
根据文章最后一段倒数第三句“Take the time to live your life with love and delight in all the miracles each day brings you(花点时间带着爱去生活,享受每一天带给你的奇迹)”可知,作者想告诉读者要花时间带着爱和喜悦生活,享受每天为你带来的奇迹,慢慢来,更充分地欣赏生活。故选D。

根据第四段中“Scientists have shown that some of these whales have lived well beyond 100 — including one that survived to 216. For perspective, if he were still alive, Abraham Lincoln would be turning just 211 this year.(科学家们已经证明,这些鲸鱼中的一些活到了100岁以上,其中有一只活到了216岁。换个角度看,如果亚伯拉罕·林肯还活着,他今年就211岁了)”可推知,林肯的例子主要是想表明弓头鲸的寿命很长。故选C。
88.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“The results suggest that the whales are better than humans at repairing their DNA.(研究结果表明,鲸鱼比人类更擅长修复自己的DNA)”可知,弓头鲸之所以能活这么久,主要是因为它的DNA有很强的自我修复能力。故选B。
根据画线词上文“That’s important because damaged or”以及后文“DNA can lead to disease, including some cancers”可知,这里指鲸鱼受损或有残疾的DNA会导致疾病,包括一些癌症,故画线词和damaged意思相近,意为“残疾的”。故选A。
根据第一段“Bowhead whales can live 200 years or longer. How they do it is no longer among the secrets of the deep.(弓头鲸可以活200年或更长。它们如何做到这一点不再是深渊的秘密)”和第二段“Scientists have mapped the genetic code of this long lived whale species. The international effort found unusual features in the Arctic whale’s genes. Those features likely protect the species against cancer and other problems related to old age. The researchers hope their findings will one day translate into ways to help people too.(科学家们绘制出了这种长寿鲸鱼的基因密码。

根据第一段第一句话“Though diet and exercise are recommended as ways to improve health, new UCR research is the first to examine the long-lasting, combined effects of both factors when they are experienced early in life. (虽然饮食和锻炼被推荐为改善健康的方法,但加州大学的新研究首次检验了这两种因素在生命早期的长期综合影响)”可知,综合研究饮食和锻炼对人的影响是新的UCR研究的独特之处。故选C。
92.细节理解题。根据第二段第二句话“The researchers found that early-life exercise led to reduced anxious behaviors and an increase in adult muscle and brain mass.(研究人员发现,早期的生活锻炼可以减少焦虑行为,增加成年人的肌肉和大脑质量)”可知,早期的生活锻炼可以减少焦虑行为,增加成年人的肌肉和大脑质量。
根据第三段第二、三句话“Mice started on their diets immediately after weaning(断奶), and continued with them for three weeks until they reached adulthood. After an additional eight weeks of “washout”, during which all mice were housed without wheels and on a healthy diet, the researchers did a behavioral analysis and measured levels of several different hormones.(小鼠在断奶后立即开始进食,并继续进食三周,直到成年。在另外八周的“洗漱”后,所有小鼠都被安置在没有轮子的环境中,并以健康的饮食为基础,研究人员进行了行为分析,并测量了几种不同激素的水平)”可知,本段主要讲述了实验的过程。故选A。
根据第三段最后一句话“After an additional eight weeks of “washout”, during which all mice were housed without wheels and on a healthy diet, the researchers did a behavioral analysis and measured levels of several different hormones.( 在另外八周的“洗漱”后,所有小鼠都被安置在没有轮子的环境中,并以健康的饮食为基础,研究人员进行了行为分析,并测量了几种不同激素的水平)”以及划线单词前半句话“One of those they measured(他们测量的这些)”可知,those指代第三段最后提到的“hormones(激素)”,而leptin指的是这些激素之一。故选D。
根据倒数第二段第一句话“Previously, the research team found that eating too much fat and sugar as a child can change the microbiome(微生物群) for life, even if they later eat healthier. (此前,该研究团队发现,儿童时期摄入过多脂肪和糖可以改变一生的微生物群,即使他们以后吃得更健康)”可知,早期的饮食习惯会带来一生的影响;根据最后一段“This study offers great opportunities for health interventions in childhood habits. “Our findings may be related to understanding the potential effects of activity reductions and dietary changes associated with overweight,” said Marcell.(这项研究为儿童习惯的健康干预提供了很大的机会。马塞尔说:“我们的发现可能有助于了解与超重相关的活动减少和饮食变化的潜在影响。”)”可知,饮食的变化和锻炼的减少都可能与超重息息相关。综合两段,作者想表明早期健康习惯的重要性。故选A。

根据文章第三段“Having hundreds of students in a class means Ashok Goel has to answer thousands of questions. He has eight teaching assistants to help him.(一个班有数百名学生意味着Ashok Goel必须回答数千个问题。他有八个助教帮助他)”可知,戈埃尔之所以有很多助教帮助他,是因为他没有时间回答所有的问题。故选D项。
98.细节理解题。根据文章第四段最后三句“At the start of the spring 2016 term, be added a new member to his teaching team: Jill Watson. She was able to answer questions faster than most other teaching assistants. And she was available 24 hours a day.(在2016年春季学期开始的时候,他的教学团队增加了一个新成员:吉尔·沃森。她能比大多数助教更快地回答问题。而且她一天24小时都有空)”可知,吉尔·沃森帮助戈埃尔工作。故选B项。
