专题08 阅读理解之记叙文10篇
(2022春·江苏南通·高二统考期中)I didn’t show an inclination to watch his Broadway musicals, when Stephen Sondheim died on Nov. 26, 2021, at age 91. Something in me instead wanted to see Al Hirschfeld’s drawings of Sondheim’s shows and characters over the decades.
As a boy growing up in the Boston suburbs in the 1970s, Hirschfeld’s images were my first ticket to Broadway, transported by their publication in The Times’s Arts & Leisure section. And they were also how I formed an early bond with my parents, one that stood over time and even into their years with Alzheimer’s (阿尔茨海默病).
“Oklahoma!” was the first musical my parents took me to, in Boston, when I was six. Around that time, I asked them why we got The Times when we didn’t live in New York. They said they still considered themselves New Yorkers and they loved Arts &Leisure and Hirschfeld’s drawings about theater. His drawings were like a lifeline for my parents to New York City over the decades, and they helped open the door for me to Sondheim.
This is how:
I made my way to New York in 1989, as a freshman at N.Y.U., where I met a dorm mate who looked like Hirschfeld’s drawing of LittleRed Riding Hood from Sondheim’s “Into the Woods.” Her name was Danielle Ferland. I told my parents about this Hirschfeld-in-the-flesh excitedly by phone. Danielle and other friends introduced me to Sondheim’s music which evoked (唤起) my memories of Hirschfeld’s drawings.
As my parents grew older, it was harder to take them to see shows with me. But in my years as the theater reporter at The Times, they would ask what I was seeing in New York and were happy to hear about Angela Lansbury performing in a 2009 revival (重演) of Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music.” They remembered her characteristic eyes from Hirschfeld’ s drawings.
When I see them next time, I will take my book of Hirschfeld’s drawings to show them and see if they remember these drawings.

It was a friend with whom I shared a connection that is quite rare around this campus — both of us are from Slovakia. Extremely happy to hear my native language after so long, I joined him in the room that he booked to study in.
During our conversation, he revealed to me that first-year committee exist within the study association GEWIS and that he belongs to one. (2022春·江苏南京·高二统考期中)For my second career, as a weather forecaster (预报员), I jerked on the Canadian Plains, which is the second-best place to chase (追逐) severe weather, after Tornado Alley. I was also studying for a degree in Meteorology so I could interpret weather data and make my own forecasts. I didn’t want to be looked at as someone silly who didn’t know what she was talking about. Around that time, a photographer friend invited me to chase with him in the Alley for a month. I said sure; I wanted to learn everything I could.
During my second round in 2013, I got to see the largest tornado in recorded history—on the very fat day of the chase season. We were waiting in this dark and dirty gas-station parking lot in El Reno, Oklahoma. Chasers do that a lot. We sit around in groups waiting and eating junk food. The forecast called it a high-risk day, and finally, a tornado rolled in around 5: 30 p. m.
It started out as a little cloud and then turned into a 60,000-foot thunderstorm in maybe 20 minutes. We jumped in our car and raced toward it. A few minutes later I was looking out the window, filming this massive wall of what seemed like rain. We thought the tornado was hidden inside. But then I saw it taking shape and felt it sucking in wind. That’s when I realized that wall was the tornado itself it was around 2.6 miles across with winds nearly 300 miles per hour. It was explosive.
We hurried to be out of there. Cars packed the roads. All we could see were brake lights. We feared we’d be stuck. But in a few minutes, it was over.
Three storm chasers died that day, just up the road from where we’d been stuck. That had never happened before, So yeah, I wondered why I would risk going out again. But then the next chase season called me back.

(2022春·江苏盐城·高二江苏省阜宁中学校考期中)Growing up in rural Jiangsu Province, Yu Jigao showed a strong interest in fine arts at an early age and studied on his own for years. His hard work paid off later. In the early 1950s, he made his way to Nanjing Normal University, where he learned painting theories and techniques from some famous artists. It was then that Yu found his lifelong artistic zeal for gongbi. Gongbi paintings usually describe birds and flowers, symbols of beauty and joy, in an artistic way with intense color.
After graduation from the art school in 1957, Yu began his professional career at the Chinese Painting Institute of Jiangsu. He has since published a series of art collections. Since 1959, Yu has contributed a series of works to many important sites. Yu’s works have also been displayed in a range of national and international exhibitions. From 1986 to 1997, he held his exhibitions in such places as Beijing, Guangzhou and New York. Both the themes and artistic techniques have won widespread praise in the past years.
While observing traditional rules, he uses accurate lines, powerful brush movements as well as the interplay between dark and light to represent the harmony of nature. Though he adopts a realistic style, he tries to enrich his works with spiritual beauty through his brush. Yu says, “That feeling turns into the images of singing birds and elegant flowers in my paintings.” Thanks to his careful observation of nature and artistic sensitivity, Yu is able to combine realistic description with artistic expression in his brushwork.
Now as deputy director of the Academy of Chinese Gongbi Painting of Flowers and Birds and a national top-level artist, Yu maintains a simple and easy-going style. (2022春·江苏苏州·高二常熟中学校考期中)On the day he almost died, Kimbal Musk had food on the brain. The Internet startup talent and restaurateur had just arrived in Jackson Hole from a conference where chef Jamie Oliver had spoken about the benefits of healthy eating. This made Musk think a lot—how he might make a difference to the food industry—but beyond expanding his farm-to-table movement along with his restaurant, Musk hadn’t yet broken the code. Then he went sailing down a snowy slope (坡) and fell over, breaking his neck.
Musk eventually made a full recovery, but it involved spending two months on his back, which gave him plenty of time to come up with a plan. Since then, he has launched an initiative to put “learning gardens” in public schools across America; attracted Generation Z to the farming profession by changing shipping containers into high-tech, data-driven, year-round farms; and this year, is kicking off a new campaign to create one million at-home gardens.
Aimed at reaching low-income families, the Million Gardens Movement was inspired by the pandemic, as both a desire to feel more connected to nature and food insecurity have been at the forefront of so many people’s lives. “We were getting a lot of inquiries about gardening from people that had never gardened before,” says Musk. “People were looking to garden for a bunch of reasons: to save money on groceries, to improve the nutritional quality of their diets, or just to cure the boredom that came with the lockdown.”
The program offers free garden kits that can be grown indoors or outdoors, and will be distributed through schools that Musk’s non-profit, Big Green, has already partnered with. It also offers free courses on how to get the garden growing and fresh seeds and materials for the changing growing seasons. “It’s not difficult. Anyone can do this, no matter where you come from, no matter where you live. We are all able to grow something,” says Musk.

(2022春·江苏淮安·高二统考期中)One day, I was sitting in a local coffee shop, and staring at this man in a wheelchair. He could move his head and parts of his fingers but nothing else. He had a servant who cut up his food and placed it on a special mechanically powered fork that he would use to eat.
He saw me staring at him and invited me to join him at his table. His name was Stephen. For several hours we sat at that table and we got to know each other on a deeply personal level. I had never known a man who was more radiant(容光焕发), more energizing to talk and get to know than Stephen.
Stephen used to be a very successful businessman in Denver. He was in the natural gas business. Thirteen years before, when he was forty, he was waiting for news of a natural gas discovery to occur any moment.
He said, “I had so much nervous energy. I saw the storm clouds gathering, and I decided to clean out the gutters(屋檐排水沟) rather than sitting around waiting for this gas well to come in.”
He climbed up the ladder to clear the piles of pine needles(松针) on the roof. As he backed up, he accidentally fell off the roof. He landed on his back. He was paralyzed(瘫痪) for the rest of his life, except for his head and his hand.
I asked him, “How do you do it all? How do you suddenly stop hiking, fishing, and running marathons?”
He said, “There are three things you have to do when something like this happens. The first thing you have to do is adjust. The second thing you do is adjust. And the third thing you do is adjust.”

(2022春·江苏苏州·高二吴县中学校考期中)Skateboarding can be traced back to the 1950s in America, where West Coast surfers started attaching wheels to wooden boards in order to “surf” on land. It became popular in the 1960s, with stars from Clint Eastwood to Katharine Hepburn pictured trying their hand at the sport. In 1965, ABC televised the National Skateboard Championships, which saw international skaters battled it out for a prize of $500.
In Japan, the All Japan Skateboard Association, founded in 1982, helped to gradually introduce the activity through surfing centers. Skater Taiichiro Nakamura, better known as “Chopper”, got his start in skateboarding in the late 1980s at the age of 15. When he was young, Chopper’s father always encouraged him to pursue an unconventional career, so Chopper practiced skating hard, eventually turning his hobby into a profession.
With his slight build, Chopper never thought he’d reach the same level as international skaters. So with many of his American counterparts(对手)pursuing bigger “air” and increasingly ambitious aerial(空中的) tricks, Chopper stuck close to the ground and pursued original street skating instead. He involved himself in his tricks with a sense of fun, inventing moves like the “potato roll”.
“Chopper made people realize that skateboarding isn’t just about copying other people’s styles,” says Hayate Kamimura, who skates with the Osaka Daggers and works as an instructor at a nearby skate park. “It’s about how you bring out your own creativity and invent a style that nobody else has.”
In the past, Chopper didn’t have many people to skate with. Now the sport has come to mainstream acceptance in Japan thanks to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, in which skating was included. However, there still aren’t enough skate parks where people can skate without disturbing others. If you skate on the street, you have to share that space with people walking by, who will get the impression that skateboarding is noisy, dangerous or scary.
29.What made skateboarding become popular in the 1960s in America?
A.The large number of advertisements for it.
B.The fancy wheels of the skateboard.
C.The big award of the competitions.
D.The influence of some celebrities.
30.What caused Chopper to practice skating hard?
A.His desire to follow in his father’s footsteps.
B.His plan to become a professional skater.
C.His admiration for a famous skater.
D.His ambition to promote it in Japan.
31.What does Chopper aim to achieve in skateboarding?
A.How to create his own style. B.How to increase aerial tricks.
C.How to be an instructive coach. D.How to catch up with international skaters.
32.What can we infer about skateboarding in Japan now?
A.It promotes the awareness of having a shared space.
B.It calls for improvements to skateboards.
C.It needs better management.
D.It becomes a sport for all
(2022春·江苏南通·高二统考期中)Fifteen years ago, when darkness used to fall in Yobe Nkosi, a remote village in northern Malawi, children did their school homework by candlelight: There was no electricity. But that started to change in 2006, when villager Colrerd Nkosi finished secondary school in Mzimba, and returned home—and found he could no longer live without power.
Aged 23 at the time, Nkosi soon figured out that a stream gushing past the house where he grew up had just enough force to push the pedals on his bicycle. He created a makeshift generator (临时发电机) that brought power into his home. Word spread quickly among the cluster of brick houses and neighbours began paying regular visits to charge their mobile phones. “I started getting requests for electricity and decided to upgrade,” said Nkosi, now 38.
With no prior training, he turned an old fridge compressor into a water-powered turbine and put it in a nearby river, generating electricity for six households. Today, the village is supplied by a bigger turbine, built from the motor of a disused maize seller (玉米剥粒机). The power is carried along metal cables strung from a two-kilometre line of tree trunks topped with wooden planks.
The users pay no fee for the power but give Nkosi some money for maintenance—slightly more than $1 per household per month. “The electricity is basically free,” Nkosi said, speaking in local Chichewa. He admitted that the maintenance income was too small to cover repair costs, which he mainly funded from his own pocket.
Despite the challenges, he is determined to expand his mini-grid to surrounding areas. “Once more villages and schools have electricity, people will no longer cut down trees for charcoal,” he said. “Students will have a lot more time to study.”
As dusk settles over Kasangazi Primary School, chatty groups of learners file into a classroom for a night-time study session. “Before we had electricity here, we used to use candles to study,” said student Gift Mfune, “Now we all have no excuse but to pass our examinations,” he exclaimed.

(2022春·江苏连云港·高二统考期中)To this paper-cutting artist, Shi Qinling, scissors are like what brushes are to painters, or what pens are to writers. Always having a pair of scissors on her also allows her to create art whenever inspiration hits. “Some people like to pen their feelings in diaries. I prefer to cut them out,” says the 35-year-old, who is currently working at the Fenglin community cultural activity center in Shanghai.
Shi developed an interest in handicraft when she was a child who often found herself alone at home. Out of boredom, she would play with paper, folding and cutting them into different shapes. This interest later developed into a passion, one that she decided to pursue by majoring in arts and crafts design during her time in university.
After graduation, however, she found herself working at a ship design company as she was unsure about what she wanted to do with her future. About a year later, the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Research Institute offered her a position in their paper-cutting department. Realizing that she still had a love for the craft, she switched her career.
In 2010, she started learning paper-cutting from Xi Xiaoqin, the national inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage for paper-cutting. Three years later, one of her works, The Fighting Fish, won third place at the Baihua Cup, a competition for Chinese arts and crafts. Six years later, Shi was named a Shanghai paper-cutting inheritor and become the city’s “youngest inheritor” of the paper-cutting heritage.
