Getting around in Canada is fairly easy. Most cities have urban transportation systems, including buses, streetcars, and trains, and some of the larger cities also have subways.
You can board these systems at regular stops along their routes. Some let you pay with cash; others require tickets. If you don't have a ticket for the bus, you must pay with the right amount of money. This is because the driver does not carry any change. Once you get settled, you may want to buy a monthly pass or a package of tickets to save money. You can buy subway tickets at the subway station.
If you have to take several buses or the subway for a single trip, you do not need to pay any money each time. Simply ask the driver for a transfer, or pick one up from the machines on the subway platform.
If you are not sure where to board the bus or the streetcar, just ask someone, or follow the crowd. It's usually at the front of the bus, where you show your pass to the driver. When using public transportation, Canadians line up. First come, first served, is a common approach to many activities in Canada.
Maps of routes and schedules are usually available from the public transit company in your area, and there may also be a telephone information line. You may want to ask someone for the name of the transit company where you live, and then look it up in your telephone book.
4.What does this passage mainly talk about?
A.How to use public transportation in Canada.
B.How to save money when traveling.
C.Where to find subways in larger cities.
D.How public transit companies work.
5.What can you do if you buy a monthly pass or a package of tickets?
A.You can take a bus whenever you want.
B.You can go wherever you like.
C.You can spend less money.
D.You can have comfortable seats.
6.If you have to change subways on a single trip, __________.
A.you have to pay each time
B.you should buy another ticket from the machine
C.you must ask for the driver's permission
D.you can take the rest free of charge
7.What should you do when you want to get on the bus?
A.Go to the front of the bus. B.Wait patiently in line.
C.Push to the front of the line. D.Show your pass to the crowd.
【答案】ACDB

Marco Polo
Marco Polo was born in Italy in 1254. A traveller and businessman, he was one of the first Europeans to travel across Asia and into China. His journey lasted 24 years.
He set out, aged 17, with his father Nicolo and his uncle Maffeo on their great journey to China. They sailed south from Venice, Italy and stopped off in the Middle East. They often carried on overland to Persia (now Iran), through the Pamir Mountains and the Gobi Desert before they got to Beijing, China. At that time, China was more advanced than Europe. They already had paper, so large numbers of books were available. They also used paper money in many parts of the country.
After he got back to Italy, Marco Polo talked about his experiences in China, and he wrote a book describing the riches of Asia. He died in 1324.

Reading books and looking at pictures are great, but nothing facilitates (促进) learning like travel, especially for teenagers. Not only do they get to see a world beyond their neighborhood, they also get to experience it, feel it, taste it, hear it and better understand the world around them.
After nearly four decades in the classroom and traveling the world, Phyllis Duvall Bailey knew this perhaps better than anyone else.
Becoming involved in the work in AKA Sorority Inc in the US, she worked to educate children about the United Nations. There was no doubt in Bailey's mind that the lessons would mean so much more if the students could see things themselves.
Starting in 2015, Bailey, 82, set out to take her students to the UN Headquarters in New York City to give them a "Window Seat to the World", and thus transformed them into global citizens.
Indeed, it is a great opportunity to give students national and international exposure. Since Bailey saw the students as future leaders, she was desperate to expose them to the UN, its mission, its agendas (议程) and its supporting organizations.
She decided to take out $10,000 of her own money to pay for the late June trip, which was enough to take 10 students aged 14-17 for a four-night stay in New York. There, they had guided tours of the UN Headquarters and the Port of New York (纽约港).
It was Quenyaun Payne's first trip to the city and Taylor Sappington's second. Payne, 17, is a senior at Mceachem High School in the state of Georgia, the US. Sappington, 15, is a junior at Therrell High School in Atlanta, Georgia, the US. Both said their visit to the UN was inspiring.
"I saw not only how countries were working together but also how they're focused on common goals like global warming and keeping peace," Sappington said.
Payne commented, "The trip was amazing. I'm so thankful that Mrs. Bailey made it possible."
Actually, there are a lot of people grateful for the retired teacher's effort. The United Nations Association of Atlanta recently gave Bailey its Humanitarian Award, and the United Nations Association of the US awarded her with the National Education Award.
But Bailey wasn't looking for recognition or even gratitude. Over those four days in New York, she'd already felt it and seen it in the eyes of those 10 teenagers, Payne and Sappington included, who made the trip.
"It has been a real joy to get to see and watch their reaction to new experiences," she said.
12. The underlined word "this" in Paragraph 2 refers to ____.
A. the benefits of travel
B. good reading habits
C. new teaching methods
D. the things teenagers like
13. How did Bailey help students?
A. She offered them voluntary opportunities at the UN.
B. She paid for trips that helped them see the world.
C. She paid for them to go to school in other countries.
D. She taught them some useful lifelong reading skills.
14. What can we infer from Sappington's words?
A. He determined to work for the UN in the future.
B. He showed no interest in global affairs at all.
C. He found the trip to the UN greatly instructive.
D. He wanted to visit New York City once again.
15. What made Bailey most joyful according to the passage?
A. Students' gratitude.
B. Social recognition.
C. Students' gains.
D. Official awards.

Summer is the season of family travel. 36 Here are our top 5 things to teach your children before entering big crowds:
How Far They Can Go— 37 For young children, you should set a rule of always holding a parent’s hand. For older kids, you may be comfortable with a “I can always see you and you can always see me” rule.
To Call Your Real Name—Teach your children that you will find them,so it’s best if they stay in one place. What’s more, teach them to call out your full name instead of “Mummy” or “Daddy” to help you more easily find them.
How to Identify a “Safe Person”—Make sure your children know the best people to approach if they get separated from you. Employees working at the place you’re visiting are generally “safe people”.But what about places that may not have employees, like the beach? 38 Experts say that mums are often the most willing and bestequipped people to help kids.
What to Say— 39 Remember that if your children do get separated from you, they will likely be panicked(恐慌),so don’t assume that they will know how to tell strangers that they are lost. Roleplay getting lost and using simple sentences like“I am lost” with your kids to help them know what to do if it actually happens.
Their Personal Information—Make sure your children know as much basic personal information as possible, including their full names, parents’ full names and telephone numbers and the address. 40
A.Teach your children to look for a mum with kids.
B.Sometimes it’s not hard to find a safe person in such places.
C.But do your kids know what to do if they get separated from you?
D.If your kids are too young to remember them, write them down!
E.It can be hard for people to help a lost child.
F.Tell your children to behave normally when they get lost.
G.It’s important to talk with your children about how close you expect them to stay to you.

(7).根据 from 50 to 60 degrees F at night and 62 to 72 degrees F during the day可知,这里指温度的范围,range表示“(在……范围内)变化”。

(11).由冬季的光秃秃的样子变为到处是绿色的景色,这里发生了美丽的变化。change 改变。
(12).根据常识可知,春天草木丛生(green popping up)应该是冬季雨水充足(the plentiful winter rain)的结果。
(13).particularly意为“特别,尤其”,表程度的加强。此处指尤其是Golan和Galilee地区满是野花覆盖着。
(14).there's really no “bad” time to visit Israel

Edward is a middleaged man. Although he was not born in a rich family,he was raised well by his father and mother. His father owned a clothes shop, and used to work for more than 12 hours a day,so that his family could lead a comfortable life.
However,Edward’s father could not earn sufficient money to provide a decent life for his family. Edward was an average student at school, and used to score around 70 percent marks. Edward’s dream was to become a lawyer. Since his marks weren’t very high,he could not get the desired course that he wanted to study. Instead,he joined a bachelor’s degree course, completed the course successfully, and got a job in a company.
While his life was going on with no dramatic change, his father continued to work in his clothes shop,so that he did not have to depend on Edward. After getting a permanent job,Edward’s parents wanted him to marry. He got married to a girl from his native town, and at the same time was also promoted in his job. After a few years, his wife gave birth to beautiful twin boys.
Later Edward began to earn a handsome salary, and started to live luxuriously. He bought a new house and a new car. Some of the luxuries were really unnecessary. Although his company provided him with a car,Edward went and purchased a new car.
After a luxurious lifestyle that spanned for almost 6 to 7 years,Edward was suffering from financial crisis and was not able to pay for the children’s education and other basic necessities.
His father fell sick, and as a result, could not continue his work in the clothes shop. He requested Edward to provide some money for his treatment and other household expenses.
Paragraph 1:
Edward shook his head.
Paragraph 2:
Just at this moment, his sons walked to Edward.
参考范文
Edward shook his head. He explained that he had been leading in a luxurious lifestyle and purchasing unnecessary goods these years. As a result,he could not even afford to pay for his own household expenses. Therefore,he refused to provide money for his father’s medical treatment. Edward then continued to complain that his parents could not be depended on when he faced difficulties in his life. His parents were shocked about what Edward said.
Just at this moment, his sons walked to Edward. The twin boys smiled and said that they would like to get jobs and help Edward overcome the financial crisis. His sons also said that they wanted to pay for part of their grandfather’s medical treatment. Edward was deeply moved after he heard what his sons had said. He recalled how his parents raised him when he was young. Edward realised that his parents had done a lot for him,and finally decided to provide money for his father’s treatment.
