    (2022·上海·模拟预测)Friday, 19 August, 1768
With the help of Seamen Francis, John and Samuel, I have managed to go aboard Endeavour.
He’s small, and his company is over 80 in number. It’s a wonder I have not been discovered.
It’s a good hiding place I’ve got, in a small boat Endeavour carries. I can look over the boat without being noticed. But it is difficult, lying day and night.
The wind blows the ropes against the deck, and the ship’s bell rings regularly. I thought it could never be so noisy on a ship. But it is.
I’ve got chickens as neighbours. They cluck in cages day and night. I’m glad of their company.
Captain Cook gathered the seamen and read the Articles of War aloud. Captain is a clean man with cold eyes.
    Sunday, 21 August
I had a stomachache again. I wish my father would come aboard and take me home. I’m tired, wet and hungry. Father knows by my letter that I’ve run away from the farm. But I believe he would not come. Father is so disillusioned that he hasn’t talked with me for several weeks. All my brothers are excellent students. Only I could not focus on my studies. Father has no use for a son who will not learn well.
    Thursday, 25 August
I shall be patient. Father thinks me hopeless when it sticks with a plan. He says I run from everything. Well, I did run from school and the farm. But I had a good excuse. Although hiding on the boat isn’t pleasant, I am better off than I was with the farmers. I shall show Father that I won’t give up easily. That I am good for something. That I am more than a farmer’s boy.
The rain has stopped. At last we set a sail. Now there are new sounds to join with the others. The sea is waving, the flags are clapping, the seamen are singing out. Fine sounds. Sailing sounds.
    7.“He” in Paragraph 1 refers to ________.
    A.Francis B.John C.Samuel D.Endeavour
    8.The next type is ________.
    A.diary B.letter C.notice D.advertisement
9.The writer missed his father when he ________.
A.look over the boat B.had a stomachache C.saw the captain D.got chickens as enighbours
10.The underlined word “disillusioned” in Paragraph 6 means “________”.
    A.disappointed B.excited C.frightened D.pleased
11.The writer sailed with the seamen because ________
A.his father didn’t allow him to go sailing
B.he wanted his father to worry about him
C.he decided to show he was a hopeful boy
D.they asked him to escape from home
12.From the article, we can conclude the writer was a(n) ________ person.
    A.serious B.strange C.proud D.independent

(2022·上海·模拟预测)① It is common to surf the Internet at home now. However, a recent survey showed over 90% of parents are not clear what websites their children visit. I strongly believe that a training project should be started to help parents to improve their internet and computer skills. Then they can better monitor and guide their children.
② Providing training would get parents to pay more attention to their children’s online activities. This is one advantage. If parents had a better understanding of the internet and websites, they would see the need to make sure that their children use it properly and responsibly.
③ Providing training to parents would allow parents to help their children with their schoolwork as well. These days, some homework of online courses needs to be done on computer. If parents have poor computer skills, they will be of little or no help with the homework. That can make parents very upset. Some people argue that it is good that students can work independently on computers. However, it is clear that students, especially young students often need this kind of home support.
④ Improving parents’ Internet and computer skills might also be a good way for parents to improve their relationships with their children. These days, children spend a lot of their free time on computers. If parents want to be part of their free time, they need to see that playing on computers can be a fun family activity. Joining their children can help parents bridge the gap between them and their children.
⑤ Most people believe that children need to be helped and guided to use the Internet in a proper and responsible way. Therefore, training is extremely important.

    >>> Is the Clean Hong Kong campaign(运动)working?
    LittleBug 88:
My dad had to pay a $1500 fine today for throwing a cigarette butt on the ground. An officer caught him and gave him a ticket. That’s just bad!
    MsNeat99:
Littering is against the law. If you break that law, you’re a “littler bug”, and have to pay the fine. You bring that onto yourself! The law is there to deter people from littering and to keep our environment clean.
    LittleBug 88:
Well, I’m against this whole Clean Hong Kong campaign as it just doesn’t work! There’s still litter everywhere!
    TidyBunny:
What’s the Clean Hong Kong campaign?
    MsNeat99:
The government started it to make Hong Kong cleaner. It’s now illegal to litter or spit in public places. The campaign includes posters and television advertisements to educate people about the law and encourage them to keep Hong Kong clean.
    TidyBunny:
I think the campaign is a great idea. I always pick up after myself and try to keep all public places clean.
    MsNeat99:
I really support this campaign too. It’s important to keep our public spaces clean, otherwise diseases can spread quickly, and we can get very sick.
    LittleBug 88:
I know a clean environment is important, but the campaign just isn’t effective. After all, people still litter and spit in public spaces.
    TidyBunny:
If you aren’t worried about the fine, then you’ll litter. But as long as some people are worried about the fine, they won’t litter. The fine works if it prevents some people from making public spaces dirty.
    MsNeat99:
I agree! The campaign works if it helps keep public spaces cleaner. Hong Kong would be much dirtier without the campaign!
    TidyBunny:
People need to know it’s important to keep Hong Kong clean.
    LittleBug88:
But what can I do? I can’t clean up Hong Kong clean!
    TidyBunny:
Everyone needs to do their part. If everyone cleaned up after themselves, the environment would be a lot cleaner.
    LittleBug88:
Yes, but many people still think it’s harmless if they just throw small things on the ground. I’ve seen people drop sweet wrappers on the ground when they tink no one is looking.
    MsNeat99:
We need to be aware that small things add up to big things when many people do it! Keeping public spaces clean benefits everyone.
    TidyBunny:
Maybe the fine will help some people see that littering or spitting isn’t so harmless!
    LittleBug88:
It’s helped my dad to see that. He will definitely think twice before littering again. A $1500 fine isn’t harmless!

Each tent stands for one country, namely Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Holland, India, Egypt, Switzerland and the UK. Let’s have a look at three of them.
●The Japanese tent is the most popular one. Walking near the tent, you can see a big tree decorated with many cherry blossoms(樱花), which were made of paper. The tree is about two deters high, and the hundreds of blossoms on it were painted by students one by one. A girl is showing the tea ceremony in front of the tree. The scene has a Japanese look.
●Many students gather around the Australian tent. Alice from Class 6, Grade 6 is dancing near the tent. She has learned ballet, traditional Chinese dancing and Latin. She wears very little. She must feel very cold!
●British tent looks very special. A boy wearing a Scottish kilt(苏格兰方格短裙)is playing the violin in front of the tent. Scottish men wear this kind of clothes. He doesn’t feel funny at all. He feels great wearing it!

The International Climate Champions (ICC) project began in 2007. It gives young people of school age a chance to speak publicly on climate change and to encourage action to reduce its effects. Each country involved selects three teenagers to be Climate Champions, who take part in local and international activities.
Climate Champion Irene Sanna lives on the Italian island of Sardinia. Irene is interested in solar energy, and also believes that Sardinia should use the waves around its coast to produce electricity. That would reduce the need to import oil and gas for lighting, heating and cooking. “Energy conservation is our future. We must make plans to save our coast, which still has no pollution. We must protect the animals, birds and fish in danger from global warming. And we must recycle.”
Chinese student Ding Yinghan is the Beijing Climate Champion. Ding feels it is unfair to say that just one country-his own-is causing climate change. He says the air pollution that leads to global warming comes from many parts of the world, including poorer countries that are now growing more quickly. He believes the only way to prevent the situation getting even worse is for rich and poor countries to work together.
Sophia Angelis, a junior student in Lake Arrowhead, California, is a US Champion. She’s against young people’s general lack of interest in politics and feels they need to discuss the problems that really matter to their generation. She has written about the need for action on poverty and her articles have been published in her local newspaper. Sophia strongly believes that climate change is an important issue for her generation. For her, changes in the way teenagers behave are an important way of influencing choices that are made by parents.
In 2008, the Climate Champions attended the International Conference of Environment Ministers in the Japanese city of Kobe. At present, 13 countries are involved in the ICC, and more countries are expected to join soon.

A.It is certain to get much worse. B.Air pollution does not cause it.
C.It is wrong to blame China for it. D.It is caused only by rich countries.
64.Sophia thinks that young people should ________.
A.publish their own newspapers B.change old people’s habits

(2022·上海·模拟预测)Around the world, kids have different childhoods, but many of them share one thing—the fairy tales of Danish author Hans Christian Andersen (1805—1875).
As a great fairy tale writer, Andersen’s stories are popular among generations of children. This April 2 is the 210th anniversary (周年) of his birth. We can still find that his writings are as popular now as they were then.
Andersen experienced poverty (贫穷) and difficulties in his youth. But these all inspired him to write wonderful stories. “I have a lot of material.” said Andersen, according to one of his biographies (自传). “It often seems to me as if every little flower is talking to me.” In his fairy tales, children not only see a fancy world but also learn difficult themes of life in simple ways.
In The Little Mermaid, to stay with the prince, the little mermaid asks the witch to change her tail into human legs. Although she can walk and dance beautifully on her human legs, she is in great pain when she does so. Sometimes we need to make sacrifices (牺牲) for something or someone we love. That’s what Andersen wanted to explain to us.
His other stories also have strong social messages. In The Ugly Duckling, the character everyone makes fun of has inner (内在的) beauty. Andersen wanted to teach children not to judge people by their appearances and that ordinary people can become heroes. The Emperor’s New Clothes is about two tailors (裁缝) who trick a very proud emperor into walking around with no clothes on. It showed Andersen’s anger against the authority (权威) of his time.

(2022·上海·模拟预测)Fiona McIntyre is a taxi driver in London. She tells us about her work and some of her experiences.
    Q: When did you start?
I’ve been a taxi driver for about five years. Before that I was a bus driver in London, and I enjoyed it, but I wanted more freedom so I changed and started driving my taxi.
Q: Have you ever had any famous passengers?
Oh yes. I’ve had film stars, politicians, you know, lots of famous people. About a year ago, a really famous actor got in my taxi. I took him to the airport. We were stuck on the way and it took a long time to get there, so he missed his plane and failed to meet his fans. It wasn’t my fault but when he got out of the taxi, he shouted at me angrily! I said to him, “Next time, take a bus!”
Q: Have passengers ever left anything in your taxi?
Oh yes! People have left all kinds of things — a suitcase, a hat, mobile phones, of course, even a dog once! Years ago, a woman left a pair of shoes on the seat. And one time a passenger left his teeth here! Not real teeth, of course — false teeth.
And people have asked me to do some strange jobs. Once a doctor stopped me outside a hospital and asked me to take a skeleton to another hospital. Professors usually use skeletons to teach medical students, you know. And I did. But I asked him to pay first — the skeleton couldn’t pay, after all!
    Q: 5
Good question. I’ve always enjoyed being a taxi driver and I don’t want to change. But of course, sometimes, it’s not great. I don’t like driving around without a passenger, but it’s better than just waiting at the airport or at a railway station. I think that’s the worst part-waiting.

    A.the skeleton B.the doctor C.the professor D.the student

D.What do you do when you’re waiting for passengers?
84.According to the interview, which of the following is NOT TRUE?
