And I think I ate at least 30 of those amazing cookies that were always available.

What do you think of your school? Have you ever expressed your ideas to your teachers or the headmaster? The following are the posts in an online chat room. Students from different schools have written down their thoughts.
Friday 2020/06/19
Johnathon, 14, Grade Eight of Thomas Science and Technology AcademyI’d like to make some suggestions about our school uniform. In the school, we students have to wear uniforms every day. But the dark red and gray sportswear looks dark and old. It can’t stand for young and active spirit. We can add some white or orange colors and make a new type of uniform. I hope our headmaster will think about my idea.
Frank, 15, Grade Nine of Mill Hill SchoolI’d like to say thank you to my headmaster. About half a month ago, my left ankle was badly hurt when I was playing basketball. Our headmaster saw it and came to me. He also took some ice cubes for me and took care of me until my parents came. I just want to thank him for that.
Larry, 15, Grade Nine of Lakeside SchoolI have two suggestions for my headmaster. First of all, I think we should have more courses like STEM, Drama or Robot programming. It is quite boring to study basic subjects all the time. And second, I hope we can have more teaching equipment for teachers and students. Some students now don’t have laptop computers to program their robots and some teachers also need 3D printers to build some special model bridges for Physics teaching.
Mandy, 15, Grade Nine of Brook Avenue High SchoolToday I want to talk about the possibility of personal classes. Now many high schools are trying the “personal class” system. Besides some regular classes, students can choose some more lessons they want to take. I think it is more effective. And it is also good for us. We don’t have to stay in one classroom all the time. We can meet more teachers and students.
31. Johnathon gives some suggestions about ________ .
A.teaching equipment B.school uniforms
C.computer programs D.personal classes
32.Frank was hurt badly when he played basketball in ________ .
A.early June B.late May
C.late June D.early July
33.Larry gives two suggestions because ________ .
A.students have too few classes every day and they love sports
B.students want to cancel the basic subjects and they need new courses
C.courses like STEM are interesting and students have no computers at all
D.studying basic subjects only is boring and the school needs more equipment
34._______ didn’t write to the headmaster to make suggestions.
A.Johnathon B.Larry C.Mandy D.Frank
35.According to Mandy, the underlined sentence “I think it is more effective” means “ ________ ”.
A.Regular classes will help teachers meet more students
B.Regular classes will help students learn better
C.Personal classes will help students learn better
D.Personal classes will help students stay in one classroom
36.According to the text, most students write to their headmasters about ________ .
A.how to share personal experiences B.how to make schools better
C.how to arrange spare time activities D.how to deal with other students

Irene
Well, I think that different people travel for different reasons. But the main reason, I believe, is to experience a different way of life. Personally for me, travelling is a good chance to learn about foreign cultures and customs. What’s more, travelling enables me to see the historical places I’ve heard so much about.
Nataly
Travelling? I think it’s pleasant! For me, travelling means rest. If I get tired of all I have, I’ll go to a place where nobody can find me. There I can get rid of all the problems and troubles. Why not take a chance to enjoy freedom and be yourself? All you need is just the sandy beach and peaceful ocean.
Steve
People travel for many reasons. Some for rest, others for sightseeing, still others for jobs. I am an interpreter (口译者). I need to help my boss communicate with foreigners. That’s why I mostly travel for business. Travelling is a part of my job. I would say that I hate travelling. It takes too much time and effort. I have to leave my family for months because I often get some business trips. Although I am lucky to have the chance to visit well-known historical places, I am too tired to go anywhere. Meetings and discussions are so tiring.
Mark
In my opinion, travelling is wonderful. New places, foreign countries, unknown people, different traditions …It is so exciting! There are lots of things to talk about, plenty of stories to tell and much experience to share. I know some people say that I just travel to brag because I tell everybody about hundreds of places I’ve visited. So what? I like to talk about it. I am the best!

(2022·上海虹口·二模) Choose the best answer. (根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案)
Accidents are the commonest cause of death among children. One in every six children goes to hospital because of an accident.
Scalds
Small children don’t understand that hot water and hot drinks can be dangerous. A cup of hot tea or coffee or a bath may scald a child badly. A severe scald can mean a long stay in hospital, and a really severe scald can kill.
Falls
Children of all ages fall and hurt themselves from time to time. Luckily, most falls aren’t serious, but some can cause severe injuries, such as head injuries.
For babies, the danger is rolling off the edge of something like a bed, chair, table or kitchen worktop.
Toddlers (蹒跚行走的幼儿) soon learn to climb and explore. To them, climbing on furniture doesn’t seem dangerous. It’s just fun. But it’s very easy for a toddler to fall off a piece of furniture, or down the stairs, or even out of a window or off a balcony.
With older children, adventure accidents are a problem. Climbing trees, high walls, or fences can be dangerous.
Burns
Every year children die in house fires and many more are badly burnt. A cigarette, for example, can easily start a fire. And many fires are started by children playing with fireworks.
But of course it’s not only fires that cause burns. There are things in every home that can burn a child badly — a hot iron for example, or an electric fire.
Drowning
Children love playing with water. Whether it’s in the bath at bed time or in the garden pond or in the sea, water is fun. But it is also dangerous. A baby or toddler can drown in very shallow (浅的) water — less than you put in the bath. ________

You might notice that some foods are named after places — for example, pu’er tea and Nanjing salted duck. These are the “birthplaces” of these foods. In fact, a product’s birthplace is very important. It’s about the quality. An agreement between China and European Union (EU) has taken effect. It lists the names of products and their birthplaces. They are called geographical indications (GIs, 地理标志).
Which products can get GIs?Farm products, food, wine, handcrafts, and industrial products can get GIs. On the first GI list, there are food, farm products, wine and tea. On the next list, there will be some Chinese cultural products, such as Shu brocade (蜀绣) and Xuan paper.

“Peanuts! Get your red-hot peanuts!”
Americans have loved the crunchy taste of peanuts ever since 1870. That was the year when P.T. Barnum introduced hot peanuts as a snack. He sold them at his circus. Soon everyone wanted peanuts to eat.
But many people around the world ate peanuts long before that. Peanuts have been a popular food in Africa for hundreds of years. In South America, scientists found clay pots which were filled with dried peanuts. These pots were over 3,000 years old! Ancient dried peanuts have also been found in China.
African slaves (奴隶) probably brought peanuts to the USA in the 1700s. At first, farmers grew peanuts as food for their cows. But a man named George Washington Carver thought that peanuts could be useful in other ways. George was born during the Civil War (内战). His parents were slaves on a farm. From boyhood, George showed great interest in plants. Later, he got an education and began studying plants. He worked hard and became a famous botanist.
George used peanuts to create over three hundred products, such as soap, ink, plastic and paint. He also helped make peanuts an important crop. He was famous for his work. There is a monument (纪念碑) to him in Missouri where he was born.
The peanut plant produces many small yellow flowers. When the flowers die, their stems (茎) begin to dig into the soil in which peanuts grow. When the peanuts are ripe, it’s time to dig them out of the ground. The peanuts must be harvested at the right time. If the soil is too wet or too dry, many of the peanuts will remain stuck in the ground. After harvesting, peanuts are dried, then they are sent to factories where they are packaged as snacks or made into other products.
Next time you go to a circus or a baseball game, listen carefully. You may hear someone shouting, “Peanuts! Get your red-hot peanuts!”
