(2022春·上海金山·九年级校考一模)I have too much stuff. My bedroom is often very messy. I have many books I never read and CDs I don’t listen to. My drawers are full of clothes I never wear. I was getting disappointed because I never had any space in my bedroom.
Then I read about minimalism(极简主义). Minimalism is a style of living where you only keep the most important items and you keep off everything else. After reading about minimalism, I felt encouraged to solve my problem.
Minimalism advises that you only keep the necessaries for living, so I started clearing out the things I didn’t use. I collected bags of clothes to give to charities. I sold some of my CDs and books online. After a while of clearing, it became quite exciting to get things out of my room and create some fresh space. They say that a clear, organized bedroom means you will have a clear and organized mind!
The main idea behind minimalism is to reduce what you own, and by doing this you can really appreciate the things you have. It’s not easy to live this lifestyle. We are often told that it is better to have more things. Advertisements try to convince(使确信) us that we will only be happy by spending more money buying more stuff.
Of course, I’m not a perfect minimalist — I’ve only just started. I still own a lot of things which I don’t really need, but I think this was a positive (积极的) start to own less stuff.  In the future, I will 83 .
    1.How is the writer’s bedroom?

2.What was the writer’s feeling after reading about minimalism?

4.What does the underlined part “by doing this” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

5.Are we often told by advertisements to have more things or fewer things?

    (2022春·上海闵行·九年级上海市实验学校西校校考一模)Answer the questions(根据以下内容回答问题)
Over the past few weeks, Shanghai has been battling with a COVID-19 outbreak. My community, located in northern Pudong, has been among the worst affected. In order to stop the spread of the virus, it has carried out rounds of all-inclusive nucleic acid(核酸)testing. As a result, volunteers have been in high demand. I have called this community home for nearly twelve years. With a deep love for it, I decided to help out.
My shift began at 6 a.m. on March 16. I was assigned to serve at one of the neighborhoods in the area. There were altogether about 2,500 residents. Neighborhood committee(居委会)workers guided then down group by group to the testing site. Some of the residents had never used the Healthcare Cloud system before. The elderly, in particular, needed help with the registration process. We volunteers showed them how to use the system or registered them for their test using our own smartphones.
Everything went smoothly until about 8:30. A few residents told me that the Healthcare Cloud system was not working. I tried to log onto the system myself and found the service was indeed unstable. The line became longer and longer as more and more people ran into the same problem. It was a hot day. Some people quickly lost their patience and tried to cut in line. Some took off their masks in order to chat with one another. I told them to put their masks back on and to maintain a safe distance apart from one another while continuing to help the residents register for their test.
Some elderly residents with mobility(活动能力)issues were unable to come themselves to the testing site. For these residents, the medical workers provided home service. It was difficult for them to climb the stairs as they were wearing thick protective clothing.
We worked until 3 p.m. When the medical workers took off their protective clothing, I noticed that their fingers were soaked in sweat(汗水)and had become wrinkled. It broke my heart to know that __________ because of the high demand for nucleic acid testing throughout the city. On some days, they were only able to get two to three hours of sleep.
It was a tiring day, but I felt happy that I was able to help out. I sincerely hope that these hard times will soon be behind us.
7.Is it a difficult time for Shanghai to fight with a COVID-19 outbreak?

8.What does “it” in paragraph 1 refer to?

9.Where did the writer work as a volunteer?

Sun Ruifeng, a mother in Beijing, changed some of her plans for her 8-year-old son’s summer vacation. She looked for an English training course, but in the end, she changed it to a swimming training class.
“Due to the stricter regulations (规定) on subject-training classes, many parents like me choose sports or other projects for developing interests instead,” Sun said.
Sun’s choice is part of the result of the government’s growing efforts to lighten the academic pressure on young students.
On July 24 last year, Chinese government introduced a guideline (意见) to ease the burden (负担) of excessive homework and off-campus training for primary and junior high school students. It lists requirements in areas such as reducing the amount and the difficulty of homework and improving the quality of education and after-class services provided by schools.
For example, homework for children below the third grade is not allowed, while homework for junior high school students should take no longer than 90 minutes to finish.
According to the guideline, training institutions (机构) cannot teach students content that is too advanced for the school curriculum. No training courses can be taught on weekends, national holidays or during winter and summer vacations.
According to Global Times, more than 75 percent of Chinese urban children, from Grade 1 to Grade 12, are enrolled in training programs. However, some training institutions take part in anxiety marketing, selling unnecessary programs that increase the burden on students.
Many parents showed their support for the new moves. “Subject learning is enough at school and we hope to improve the children’s overall quality of life during holidays.” a parent surnamed (姓) Zhou in Guangzhou told Xinhua.
However, there are also some concerns. A parent surnamed Chen in Shanxi said that although she agreed on new moves, she worried about ________.
At present, nine cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Guangzhou, have been selected to carry out the guideline. It will later be rolled out nationwide.
13.Sun Ruifeng didn’t choose the swimming training class for her son at last, did she?

14.What does the guideline require primary and junior high schools to do on homework?

When Robert was about two years old, he tried to remove a bottle of milk from the refrigerator but it fell, spilling milk all over the kitchen floor.
When his mother came into the kitchen, instead of shouting at him or punishing him, she said, “Robert, what a great and wonderful mess you have made! I have rarely seen so much milk. Well, the damage has already been done. Would you like to get down and play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it up?”
Indeed, he did. After a few minutes, his mother said, “You know, Robert, whenever you make a mess like this, eventually you have to clean it up and restore everything to its proper order.”
After they cleaned up the spilled milk, his mother then said, “You know, what we have here is a failed experiment in how to effectively carry a big milk bottle with two hands. Let’s go out in the back yard and fill the bottle with water and see if you can discover a way to carry it without dropping it.”
The little boy learned that if he grasped the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands, he could carry it without dropping it. At that moment he knew he didn’t need to be afraid to make mistake. Instead, he learned that mistake were just good chances for learning something new, which is, after all, what scientific experiments are all about. Even if the experiment “doesn’t work”, we usually learn something valuable from it.

①One night, I was sitting in my kitchen half-listening as my 12-year-old son, Kevin fought with his brother Tommy. I didn't pay attention when Kevin went upstairs with a look of hurt on his face.
②About 20 minutes later, as I was walking upstairs I heard Kevin crying inside the bathroom. I knocked on the door and asked, “Kevin, do you want a talk?” No answer. I tried again. Still nothing happened.
③So, I took a piece of paper from a notepad and wrote, “If you don’t want to talk, we can write notes to each other.” and slipped(滑动) it under the door.
④An hour later, I was still sitting outside the bathroom with two piles(堆) of cards in front of me. They are cards from Kevin on which he had put all his unpleasant feelings into words for me. As I read one of Kevin’s notes, I couldn’t help crying. One of Kevin’s notes said, “Nobody in this family cares about me. I am not the youngest, and I am not the oldest, and I am not the smartest. Tommy thinks that I am too weak and Dad wishes he had another Kevin as a kid because he’s better at basketball. And you’re never around to even notice me.”
⑤He was right about my part. Feeling sorry for him, I wrote back, “Kevin, I do love you and I am here for you and you are loved in this family.” He didn’t reply for a while, but I could hear him crying softly. Kevin ran out of paper, so he wrote “Thanks” on a paper cup. I wrote back “For what?” It was returned to me with the reply “Loving me” written on it.
⑥Since then, I have tried my best to care about my family members. When one of us notices that the other is unhappy, we’ll smile and say, “Write it on a paper cup”.

Sunny Days Community Center222 St. Bell Street
    Edmond, Oklahoma 98020
    December 26, 2019
    Dear Mr.& Mrs. Green,
It was a Saturday morning and we looked around to see our breakfast club full of happy children. Each one of them was talking and laughing. It seemed they had completely forgotten the fact that they are all orphans (孤儿). Since you cannot see their dear faces, I am writing to tell you how wonderful it is to see them smile and how thankful we are for your donations that have made this happen. Your contribution has helped so much, but the need is still great.
Each year, we help thousands of orphans by giving them a proper breakfast and somewhere safe to play. Without donations like yours, however, the center will not have enough funds to keep operating. We are hoping to raise another $10,000 to keep our breakfast club and our playgrounds going through 2020. A donation from you will be a big help in reaching our goal. There are several levels of giving. Here is an example of what your gift will achieve:
    $20—will feed one child breakfast for a month;
    $50—will feed three children breakfast for a month;
$100—will feed three children breakfast for a month and allow us to buy three new basketballs for our playgrounds. (Playing basketball is something the children really love!)
These services bring so much joy to the children. Together, we are changing their lives for the better and building brighter futures for them. Without you, however, that just won’t be possible. Thank you so much for your support!

    (2022春·上海徐汇·九年级统考一模)根据短文内容回答下列问题。
Drama and the performing arts are excellent methods of building confidence in children and adults alike. Learning through drama allows children to explore their creativity, have fun and leave their shyness and worries behind. Drama also works by supporting the growth of imagination and other skills.
Entertainment has become rather passive with cinema, television, and computer games becoming more popular. These screen-based methods have had a negative effect on communication. However, drama puts the “get-up-and-go” back into entertainment. Children have the opportunity to connect with others in a more meaningful way as drama encourages speech development and awareness of body language.
Play and drama are closely linked. When children play a game, they are pretending and using their imagination and so are moving away from reality to create their own story. Drama is a vehicle through which children can express themselves more freely through mime (哑剧表演), gesture, movement, and speech to make education fun.
Children gain confidence by understanding that there is no final answer in drama and that their opinion and actions are valued. Children are able to give a personal response to many issues and situations such as poverty, bullying, global warming and recycling. The issues that drama can deal with are endless. Drama and education have a strong link as drama can encourage children to take an active interest in other subjects such as geography, history, and English and so have a more rounded education. As a drama teacher, I have witnessed children at their first class holding onto their parent’s arm——unwilling to let go. Then to see the same child later running into my class with a smile is an excellent sight. Drama installs confidence in children by allowing them to improvise (即兴创作) and experiment. Everyone is given the opportunity to shine within drama.
37.Can learning through drama help children leave their shyness and worries behind?
    ______________________________________________
38.What do those screen-based methods have a negative effect on?
    ______________________________________________
39.Why does drama let children connect with others in a more meaningful way?

40.What do children think they can do in a play or a drama?

41.What does the underlined word “valued” (in the last paragraph) most probably mean?
    ______________________________________________.
42.Are children interested in drama classes? How do you know?

(2023·上海黄浦·统考一模)Philip is 55 and blind. He has been blind since birth. He says he does not feel like he is missing anything, because he cannot imagine what sight is like. He can smell a rose, but he cannot tell if it is red, or blue. It does not matter to him. He enjoys the beauty of the scent(pleasant smell)itself.
People sometimes take pity on him, but he never complains. He does not feel cheated by Mother Nature. But his life is not always a bed of roses. It is difficult for him to travel. He cannot drive, of course. He travels by bus. At home, he cannot just look out of the window to see what the weather is like, and then dress appropriately. He can’t look at the clock on the wall to see what time it is. He uses his Braille watch or a special radio for that.
Philip can look for and look at, but he cannot see. He says strangers often correct themselves when talking to him. They’ll say, “I see,” meaning “I understand.” But then they think they’ve been rude, so they’ll correct themselves and say, “I mean, I understand.”
Philip has never seen a good movie or a bad TV show. He doesn’t know what a sunset or a full moon looks like. He is a musician. He plays the saxophone, but not in a band. Four times a week, he travels to Old Town in Pasadena on the bus in the afternoon. He gets off at the bus stop and then finds his way across the street to The Cap, a hat store. On the side walk in front of The Cap is his “spot”. There, he puts a hat, upside down with change in it. He sits down and starts playing his saxophone. He usually spends about four hours there and earns from $10 to $30.

Wearing long robes (长袍) and tall hats, a group of foreigners went on stage and performed Peking Opera and ballads (民谣), as well as spoke Chinese.
You can see scenes like this at the 12th “Chinese bridge”—Chinese Proficiency (能力) Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students. Known as the “Olympics” of Chinese language, the competition took place in Zhengzhou, Henan on Nov 2.
More than 120 students, representing 105 countries, gave Chinese speeches and showed off their talent in areas such as kung fu, tai chi and calligraphy (书法).
Mackova Victoria, a 15-year-old girl from Slovakia, performed Wuqinxi at the competition. She imitated the movements of a tiger, deer, hear, ape and bird on stage. She gained an interest in traditional martial arts (武术) after she found that it could help her relax her muscles (肌肉) and stay fit. “The 2,000-year-old exercise is cool, but few people have heard of it,” Victoria told Xinhua. “I want more foreign people to appreciate it, as well as appreciate Chinese culture.”
Raissa, 17, from the Union of the Comoros, sang the Chinese song Wish You Safe and Well (祝你平安) during the second-round competition. “It is also my sincere wish for the people of China and the Comoros,” said Raissa. After doctors on the Chinese medical team in Africa cured her grandmother three years ago, Raissa developed a strong emotional connection with China. “My dream is to study medicine in China so that I could cure patients like the Chinese doctors who treated my grandmother,” said Raissa.
At the end of the final contest, Germole Iacopo from Italy, who has studied Chinese for four years, won as the champion (冠军). For him, the competition gave him a chance to communicate with young people all around the world. “We should learn to appreciate each other’s differences,” Germole said.
The competition is a “bridge” that shows “________.”, according to Liu Limin, board member of the Confucius Institute (孔子学院). “By studying a language, you actually start to connect with that culture,” Liu added.
55.More than 120 students from 105 countries took part in the competition, didn’t they?
    ___________________, __________________________
56.Why was Mackova Victoria interested in traditional martial arts?
