表示人或事物先后顺序的数词叫序数词。序数词大多数是由基数词变化而来的,序数词往往与定冠词the连用。
1. 不规则类: ne→first, tw→secnd, three→third2. 普通类:第四至第十九一般在基数词后加-th,但也有四个特殊的,需加强记忆。◆fifth (第五) 和twelfth (第十二)是把基数词five和twelve后的词尾ve变成f再加-th构成。◆eighth (第八)是在基数词eight的后面
直接加-h构成。◆ninth (第九)是将基数词nine的词尾e
去掉,再加-th构成。
3. “ty”类:以“-ty”结尾的整十的基数词
变序数词时,把基数词的词尾y变为ie,再加-th,如: twenty -- twentieth eighty -- eightieth4. 几十几类:表示“几十几”的基数词
变序数词时,只需将个位变为序数词即
可,如: thirty-eight--thirty-eighth twenty-ne -- twenty-first seventy-nine -- seventy-ninth
★序数词前面往往加定冠词the,但当
序数词前面有名词所有格、物主代词或指
示代词修饰时,前面不能加the。如:
Tday is my sister’s furth birthday.★在写日期时常用到序数词的缩写形
式,即在阿拉拍数字的后面加上序数词的
